I agree with Chris. What is on the RebelX server looks pretty but doesn't seem
to have production-ready content yet.

The scrolling sponsor area at the bottom will also need to be updated with real
content. And... do we have permission from all those companies to use their
logos?

Thank you,

The front page is very pretty. Are the links supposed to go anywhere? When we

all dead links in the header and footer navigation?

Also, would this get proper hosting and deployment when released? Because
right now it does the Plone thing with a lot of spinning before displaying
the front page a minute later or simply ending up with a naked timeout on
http://10.0.0.37:8012/Plone. I couldn't tell if the key features links go
 anywhere because they all timeout.

Without the navigation, content, and deployment being fixed, I'd be very -1
on releasing it as is. It is a very pretty design. But it is an
 anti-marketing site as is.

The scrolling sponsors at the bottom is awesome.

Re: [Evangelism] PyCon Japan 2012 and Plone

2012-05-23 Thread Gabrielle Hendryx-Parker
When coming up with a release name, keep in mind we will need to be able to
explain the choice to the media. We can't just say oh, it sounded nice, or
this is a fun destination for vacation (although I personally like Ventura).

Lion and Tiger both come with the connotations of powerful, superbe,
respectful, etc.

We will have to tie the name to the main features in Plone 5. So, what are the
top 3 new benefits in Plone 5?

Yeah, that is very good too and I like the international aspect of it. I
think I like it even better than the snake one. We just need to watch out as
Apple codenamed a laptop Pismo, which is a beach in California. I don't think
they were on a beach theme though as the others in the series were Lombard (I
presume the street in SF), and Wall Street.

We have to have a sprint / release party at each one of these beaches as we
 go along right? ;)

I've always thought the Ubuntu release names were a bit naff. Whilst I think
they work great for developers I always feel a bit daft referring to Breezy

[Evangelism] Plan for Marketing Tune-Up this Coming Friday May 15th

2009-05-13 Thread Gabrielle Hendryx-Parker

Hi All:

This coming Friday, May 15th, we will be working on two things:

1) Gathering information about events Plone should be represented at
so that we have a plan in place, budget set aside for target events,
and can help support Plonistas going to those events.

The preliminary event list we have is at:
http://etherpad.com/eMhbqewyQw

It is broken down by region. EUROPEANS: please add on to your list!

GOAL FOR MAY 15TH PLONE TUNE-UP:
For each event, gather:
 - name, location, dates
 - url
 - target audience
 - expected number of exhibitors and their names
 - expected number of attendees
 - admission ticket price
 - information on booth rental cost and other associated expenses for
exhibitors

 - names of Plonistas planning on attending the event
 - reason why Plone should be represented

Again, the list is at:
http://etherpad.com/eMhbqewyQw

2) Review the latest update of the Plone logo usage guidelines (to be
presented by Mark Corum).

[Evangelism] Plone.org has moved!

2009-04-20 Thread Gabrielle Hendryx-Parker

Greetings!

Plone.org was moved over to Six Feet Up's servers earlier today at
11am EDT. In honor of the move, and to boost traffic to the site, you
are encouraged to browse the newly migrated site and look for a
mysterious monkey that has been hidden there. The 6th person to click
it will receive a unique prize :-)

IMPORTANT: The last data sync was done on April 20th, 2009 at 1:30am
EDT. Any content added to plone.org between 1:30am EDT and 11:10am EDT
did not get moved. Content will have to be re-entered on plone.org,
enjoying a much faster environment now.

Please report any issues to http://dev.plone.org.

Thank you, and happy browsing!

Re: [Evangelism] Re: Re: Top 15 Questions... Final Draft

2009-04-15 Thread Gabrielle Hendryx-Parker

Hi Dylan,

This new draft is the results of many discussions and edits. It is
important that the majority of people in the Community feel
comfortable with it.

Some of your concerns have been addressed in that we are now
positioning Plone as an enterprise quality CMS. However we don't
feel that Plone is a real DMS and don't think we should position it as
one in light of the superiority of other products in that field.
However, we did mention that Plone is a true CMS with built-in
publication workflow and document management features in question #8.

Furthermore, the description of Plone as being an application that is
easy to use has been better expressed in this new statement: is easy
for developers to download and install, and easy for end-users to use.

While these are general guidelines we encourage the Community to
follow, they should not prevent you from adapting the general message
to better fit your sales pitch to a specific client. We just can't
make the exception the rules for everyone.

I hope this addresses your concerns.

Thank you,
Gabrielle Hendryx-Parker

business needs.

These are all good points, and do not contradict the other parts of
the story.

you are right but the point I was making was that when we sing
Plone's praises perhaps we pick just our key differentiator for our
audience so that our message has more impact. I don't think easy to
install is a key differentiator.
Since its pretty unclear who the audience for these questions is,
that makes it hard. Is this aimed at getting developers to take on
plone as a tool or at organisation decision makers looking for a
solution.

Plone the community open source enterprise content management
system. It's power comes from it's unique combination of content
management, document management, workflow, collaboration tools and
web theming engine.
For those controlling the content of site it provides an easy to use
yet power web interface.
For those choosing their organisations next web presence or Intranet
Plone efficiencies by combining several systems into one while
maintaining integration with existing systems and the highest levels
of security.
For developers it provides to tools to create anything from a simple
blog to scalble multiserver global intranet, customised to the exact
user requirements.

Plone is among the top 2% of all open source projects worldwide,
with 200 core developers and over 300 solution providers in more
than 50 countries.

Plone has been actively developed since 2001, is available in more
than 40 languages, and has the best security track record of any
major CMS.

Plone's codebase and intellectual property is owned by the Plone
Foundation, which is a non-profit organization where donations are
tax-deductible (at least in the US).

--

It's a bit clumsy and could be cut down but I think it has more
impact yeah?

No one expects SAP to be easy to install do they?

The thing is, Plone *is* easy to install, and you get a very
sophisticated setup even when using the base installers. It's just
a bit challenging to develop for at the moment, something that
we're working hard on fixing.

SAP is hard to install *and* hard to develop for. Or maybe just
expensive, depending on how you look at it. ;)
