Can´t log in to exchange with mail clients
Hi folks, I'm having a very disturbing problem. My Exchange server starts normaly and logs no errors, but after it starts, I can't use any client to log in. When I try to use a previously well working Outlook client to connect, it says: The attempt to initiate a session in the exchange server failed I have Windows 2000 server, exchange 2000, Norton AVF. This is very urgent, so all help will be appreciated Filipe Joel de Almeida Network Consultant [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchangetext_mode=lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: Can´t log in to exchange with mail clients
I just had a new update on this. According to the technician who was taking care of that machine, this started happening when the disk where the exchange server is installed filled up. He deleted some unnecessary files (Instalation CDs copied to the servers disk) to free disk space, and then got 4 gb free space, but the problem continued. When I got to the server, and couldn't identify the problem, I rebooted it. It still doesn't authenticate users... what can be done? RE: Can´t log in to exchange with mail clients
Yes, all the exchange services are up and runing, and the server receives and sends mail. I have a custom recipient redirecting mail to an external e-mail, and if I send an e-mail to that address, I receive it in my external e-mail, so the server is working right. It just doesn't let anyone log into the mailboxes. I even tried to use an IMAP connection, but it failed too... I'm getting a bit desperate here... RE: Can´t log in to exchange with mail clients
That technician claims not to have changed anything except deleting the cds stored in the disks after the server stopped for lack of space. I tried creating a new profile, it resolved the name in the check name, but then couldn't contact to the mailbox. I checked the DNS and the ISA server, and everything is normal. I don't know if I did well, but I re-applied Exchange SP3, and now everything is working again (at least I can connect with the clients to the mailboxes.) OT: hp surestore vs80 autoloader 1/8
Hi, I HAVE read the Faq about Backup software, but I have a slightly different question, so I'm posting here... please, no flames! I'm thinking about buying a backup device to backup aprox. 200 Gb (70Gb Exchange Mailboxes and 130 Gb File Server), and it looks like the best option is hp surestore vs80 autoloader 1/8. That device comes with HP Omniback already included. I'll have to backup Exchange and open files. I would like to know what you think it's best: Stick with HP omniback and buy the needed agents, or dump it and buy Backup Exec with the agents? I also heard that the Open Files agent isn't very reliable... do you guys have any experience on this? Thanks on advance... OT - Exchange and SQL Clustering literature
Dear List Gurus, I have been asked to design and implement a solution with Exchange and SQL in a Windows 200 Adv Server Cluster. (Each of them running on a separate node, with fail-over in case one node goes down). I've already worked with this kind of solution but never implemented one right from the start. The cluster is composed of 2 HP LH-3000 with a shared array of disks. I'm looking for some good technical resources to prepare myself to correctly install the cluster and then installing and configuring both apps. Could you point me to some good books on this matter? RE: OT - Exchange and SQL Clustering literature
Thanks for the links Greg... Actually the hardware was already bought and the powers above just instructed that a cluster must be implemented ASAP, so I'll have to get it done... Just for you to see how dumb managers can be, they told me they wanted all their domains (54 companies, with 54 different sub-domains) to be hosted by the same Domain Controller I almost had a heart attack when I heard that. And can you believe that they kept insisting that it was possible, even after I said it wasn't? Generally, Exchange and SQL server are best implemented on separate boxes. In fact, you may get better performance by implementing these as stand-alone servers due to the overhead of clustering. And if you put in the right hardware configuration of disks and redundant power supplies, etc. you can achieve close to the level of fault tolerance as with a cluster. RE: Metric reporting
Yeah, it imports the GAL without any problems, and it processes the logs without returning errors, but the reports come out all wrong. The thech support said that version 2.* of MELIA only supports up to Exchange 5.5, and there will be a new release of MELIA in the second semester of this year that will fully support Exchange 2K. IMHO its one of the best reporting tools for exchange. It has many kinds of template reports, and the fact that it's built on an ACCESS database, allows the administrator to directly manipulate the data, and create it's own queries, or even link the database to some billing software, as it was done in a company where I usued to work. RE: Differences in formatting of multi-day apointments
Ooops! Sorry, I misread your first e-mail! Actually this problem happens both in Exchange 5.5 and 2k, and in both office 2000 and XP, and even if it is local or in a public folder. Even more strange! I did this: -Created a task that spreaded through more than one day and had more than 24 total hours -Edited the 'end time hour' (I could choose what hour I wanted) and changed it so that the task would have less than 24 hours -Edited the task again and tried to increase the 'End time hour' but I couldn't choose over the hour when the task completed 24 total hours AND Now it shows me beside each time in the combo box, the total time of the task correspondent. Does the same happen to you? This actually proves that even if you upgrade to Office XP and Exchange 2K, it will still work the same ;( Filipe Joel de Almeida Network Consultant [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mobile: +351 967819600 -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Jim Helfer Sent: terça-feira, 30 de Abril de 2002 15:37 To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Differences in formatting of multi-day apointments Yeap, definitely a version problem. OWA Problem
Ok, let me see if I can phrase this out correctly: I'm taking over some Exchange 2K Servers. I have already applied SP2 and the latest patches in the ones that didn't have it yet, and now I'm checking to see if they are all stable. RE: Differences in formatting of multi-day apointments
Jim, I have Outlook 2002, and if I make an appointment from Wednesday 14:00 to Thursday 09:00, it will appear in month view as one contiguous appointment spreading through both days, just as you want it to work!! The boss has noticed that when creating an All-Day apointment, or a multi-day apointment, the apointment is displayed in a box as one contiguous apointment. Except when the apointment is less than 24 hours, even if it spans more than one physical day. In this case, the apointment displays on the calendar as a 2 separate apoinments. For instance, we use a public calendar that our users can post apointments to to represent signing out some shared equipment. With this behavior, if I sign out a digital camera from Wednesday 5:30pm until Thursday 8:30 am, it will display like 2 separate apointments in month view. A bit confusing for this application. Probably nothing I can do. Does Exchange 2000 work any differently? Are there any third party outlook calender add-ins that have has escaped my search? RE: Differences in formatting of multi-day apointments
I forgot one thing, this is my local calendar, and not on the server. I have another machine with Outlook 2000 and Ex2K SP2 and although it works fine on the mailbox calendar (the mailbox is on the server, not on a .PST), it doesn't work if I create a calendar in a Public Folder. Hope this helps. I really don't understand you guys... WTF is going on? I now guess that when Daniel was talking about run change control he meant to record everything I install on the servers or something. I appologise to you elite gurus for my ignorance, and not speaking English very fluently, but I'm new to exchange and all I wanted to know is if there is some tool like hfnetchk to automatically tell me the SP and hotfixes that are installed on Exchange servers. RE: What hotfixes/patches after Sp2?
Actually I have a database record for all my Windows Servers with their security ( operating system SP and HF) and applications status. I'll be populating the database with info from the Exchange servers as soon as I can. I was just confused, because he said run change control and I thought he was talking about running some software. It would be great if M$ started including info about exchange on hfnetchk. Your English is fine; one heck of a lot better than my Portuguese. Okay, if you want to find out what SP your Exchange 2000 server is running, you can just right-click on the server in ESM and choose properties. Then to see any additional hotfixes that are installed on top of it, just go to start settings control panel add/remove programs. They'll be listed in there. I'm assuming Win2k/E2k since that's the title of this thread. Also, I think Daniel had a valid concern - keep on top of change management. Perhaps you could have just said, Sure, I'd like to, but the idiot that was here before me didn't, and I need to get up to speed on the mess I inherited :) -Original Message- From: Filipe Joel de Almeida [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Posted At: Wednesday, April 24, 2002 5:05 PM Posted To: MSExchange Mailing List Conversation: What hotfixes/patches after Sp2? OWA access to Small Business Server
Hi, I just subscribed to this list, and this is my first post, so if this question has been made recently, please don't flame me. I have a Small Business Server with Exchange2000 and Isa Server installed. When installing ISA server, it automatically 'takes over' ports 80 and 8080, and I can't use OWA to access the e-mails. What can I do to change this? Thanks in advance.
