 Yes. Reminds me of the old physicists joke:

 It's a bit like those who argue that if there are aliens how come we ain't 
seen them. 
 So if there are time machines how come no one from the future pops up with a 
cure for cancer.
 

 At least aliens are possible, even if they are a bit elusive or can't be 
bothered to get out much. But is time travel? Nobody has ever demonstrated that 
your traditional TARDIS, the one we all want, is actually permitted by the laws 
of physics. But some types of time travel are possible, and one is even really 
easy.
 

 The easy one is to travel relativistically into the Earth's future. All you 
need is a spaceship that can accelerate at one Earth gravity and then you go 
for a trip round the nearest star. Time will pass slowly for you but for 
observers on Earth it will go slow. So when you get back it's thousands of 
years into the future. This time dilation prediction of Einstein's was actually 
tested as far back as the 70's with one of those supersonic spyplanes and a 
pair of atomic clocks. Not what we want as you can't go backwards, not easily 
anyway but even that's theoretically possible, with caveats.
 

 I read a book by a top physicist who'd lost his father in Vietnam and promised 
himself that if it was possible he would build a time machine and go back to 
say goodbye. So he devoted a lot of time to it even while he was gaining tenure 
and a reputation for general extreme cleverness. Working on time travel is 
career suicide in those days so he kept it quiet until he was sure he'd cracked 
it and made a presentation to the world's finest minds at a conference, and 
they agreed with him that it's possible. 
 

 Tricky though, it involves manipulating the extreme time dilation effects 
round a spinning black hole with lasers and opening a wormhole to the past and 
flying through. Because time stands still relative to an observer, and is all 
so compressed as it spins round, it's apparently possible to travel backwards 
but not beyond the time when the machine was built. So time travel may be a 
thing of the future only and you might actually get people popping back with 
cures for things. But given the difficulty of getting near enough to a black 
hole to work on it with being destroyed yourself it seems like the last thing 
anyone is going to consider a good investment. 
 

 And Stephen Hawking thinks that the wormholes would collapse as soon as you 
entered them anyway, so it looks like history will continue to be just one damn 
thing after another...

 I've known a number of people who lived in the Soviet Union.  One crew of 
software developers talked about how silly the KGB was.  Some were happy to 
have escaped the place but then after a couple years in the US found America

 It is all a terribly interesting problem for those of us who live here. There 
is quite a lot in play right now. The nitty-gritty of it is privileged right 
now in a lot of work with and between people but,,  The next month or so is

just a little but real.  The person says that you don’t want Trump running the

 Where would US citizens go in to exile whence an evident nut like Trump could 
come in to disruption and control of our lives?  The twentieth century had 
plenty of examples to draw on of that happening. 
 

 I am looking for balance in leadership. A good human being.
 

 As part of the Iowa caucus cycle I have seen all three of the democratic 
candidates and I am fine with either of them from this standpoint of reasonable 
balance and self control.

 Sure I am and so are you. Just watch him. He may have pushed and bullied his 
way around the corporate world but these tactics don't work as the leader of a 
country. My reasons for thinking this are below in my initial post. It doesn't 
take much of a brain to extrapolate from all of his bluster from the podium

 I grew up in a family where the patriarch (my father) was one of the most 
powerful and influential CEO's in the world. He was brave, smart, fair, decent 
and yet no push over. I grew up around this. I know that no matter how tough 
and how big you think you are you have to combine it with a balance that 
includes empathy, heart, wisdom and depth and to understand and acknowledge 
your own fallibility and weaknesses. In other words, you have to act like a 
human being. It is only then that you command true respect instead of 
generating rancor, resistance and resentment by others who you need to "deal" 
with.

 O, hard to say. It appears he's got a boot in both camps but he might just 
be middle and Republican enough in some of what he believes or by what his past 
history shows to appeal to some of the Republican voters. I get the impression 
many of the Democratic public are loving either Bernie or Hillary already and 
so perhaps he might capture the moderate Republican voter or even on-the-fence 
sort of Democrat. It would be interesting to see though. Whether he could budge 
any of the looney tunes currently loving Trump seems unlikely given Bloomberg's 
stance on gun control. I am no expert, only theorizing based on having read

Yeah, there is a difference but European Socialism is the logical next step in 
a progressions from Capitalism to Communism. Once Socialism fails, more extreme 
measures are required to *redistribute* the wealth so all is *fair*. And that 
is all Communism is, extreme Socialism. Socialism allows private ownership of 
the means of production but redistributes the fruits of that production. 
Communism ultimately allows the seizure of private ownership by the State in 
order to more equitably redistribute the wealth. Each gives according to his 
abilities and receives according to his needs.

What you mention about someone with anger issues mucking up the whole 
meditating community, is an odd effect from a technique that has so much to 
offer. We all know the background of Maharishi not seeing a need for an 
integration of the study of psychology with the benefits of TM, but this 
appears to now have resulted in a serious problem wrt the movement's ongoing 
liveliness.  

 To somehow believe that in the absence of any instruction except, "take it 
easy, take it as it comes", and the diligent practice of TM, that everything 
will magically sort itself out mentally, emotionally, physically, socially, and 
financially, is pretty naive. Add to that the inevitable "cart before the 
horse" attitude wrt behavior in spiritual environments (faux emulation of 
"enlightened" living), and you end up with a bunch of emotional powder kegs in 
the community. Light is essential for seeing the world, but it is the shadows 
that give everything its reality. Has anyone spoken to this angry person in a 
clear and direct fashion, about this problem, or is that not possible?

 Where would US citizens go in to exile whence an evident nut like Trump could 
come in to disruption and control of our lives?  The twentieth century had 
plenty of examples to draw on of that happening. 
 

 I am looking for balance in leadership. A good human being.
 

 As part of the Iowa caucus cycle I have seen all three of the democratic 
candidates and I am fine with either of them from this standpoint of reasonable 
balance and self control.

 Sure I am and so are you. Just watch him. He may have pushed and bullied his 
way around the corporate world but these tactics don't work as the leader of a

powerful and influential CEO's in the world. He was brave, smart, fair, decent 
and yet no push over. I grew up around this. I know that no matter how tough 
and how big you think you are you have to combine it with a balance that 
includes empathy, heart, wisdom and depth and to understand and acknowledge 
your own fallibility and weaknesses. In other words, you have to act like a 
human being. It is only then that you command true respect instead of 
generating rancor, resistance and resentment by others who you need to "deal"

Here, I thought violence was the nature of football.

Actually law enforcement will probably be more worried about protests 
over having the Super Bowl here.  The Bay Area is a sports nuts 
community.  Sports stuff involving local teams can top the local news 
stories which is ridiculous.  However local fans tend to be less 
interested in the Super Bowl (other than an excuse to drink lots of beer 
and eat fattening foods) if none of the local teams, especially the 
49'ers, aren't playing. They also don't like the idea of their tax 
dollars going to fund stadiums that will help make rich people even richer.

 Oh John, if you told them about Rahu, Mr Cusp and Jupiter they would want an 
eyes and hair color and physical description of them as well as why these 
"fellows" looked so suspicious. I think they might lock you up if you were to

 I'm afraid they wouldn't know what the nakshatras mean.  They would want the 
who, what, where, when, and how details.  If you answer all of them, they might 
arrest you for suspicion of plotting and committing a terrorist act.

Also, there's a new trend in SF politics relating to the Super Bowl.  
The politicos now want the NFL to pay the City for the expenses 
incurred in preparing for the Big Game, such as, additional police 
protection, street cleaning, and the creation of a reception area for 
tourists and visitors.  The last figure I heard is a reimbursement 
bill of about five million dollars to the NFL.

Here, I thought violence was the nature of football.

Actually law enforcement will probably be more worried about protests 
over having the Super Bowl here.  The Bay Area is a sports nuts 
community.  Sports stuff involving local teams can top the local news 
stories which is ridiculous.  However local fans tend to be less 
interested in the Super Bowl (other than an excuse to drink lots of 
beer and eat fattening foods) if none of the local teams, especially 
the 49'ers, aren't playing. They also don't like the idea of their tax 
dollars going to fund stadiums that will help make rich people even 
richer.

O, hard to say. It appears he's got a boot in both camps but he might just 
be middle and Republican enough in some of what he believes or by what his past 
history shows to appeal to some of the Republican voters. I get the impression 
many of the Democratic public are loving either Bernie or Hillary already and 
so perhaps he might capture the moderate Republican voter or even on-the-fence

 That's the last thing I'd want-- men in black suits and dark sunglasses  
following me around when I walk in the park or go to the grocery store.
 

 Also, there's a new trend in SF politics relating to the Super Bowl.  The 
politicos now want the NFL to pay the City for the expenses incurred in 
preparing for the Big Game, such as, additional police protection, street 
cleaning, and the creation of a reception area for tourists and visitors.  The 
last figure I heard is a reimbursement bill of about five million dollars to

 Actually law enforcement will probably be more worried about protests over 
having the Super Bowl here.  The Bay Area is a sports nuts community.  Sports 
stuff involving local teams can top the local news stories which is ridiculous. 
 However local fans tend to be less interested in the Super Bowl (other than an 
excuse to drink lots of beer and eat fattening foods) if none of the local 
teams, especially the 49'ers, aren't playing. They also don't like the idea of

Based on the placement of the said planets, I'm thinking the culprits will more 
likely pose to enter the stadium as  women reporters and NFL game officials, 
such as referees and umpires.  I don't believe the terrorists would be wearing

of software developers talked about how silly the KGB was.  Some were 
happy to have escaped the place but then after a couple years in the 
US found America was not all it was cracked up to be.

 I've known a number of people who lived in the Soviet Union.  One crew of 
software developers talked about how silly the KGB was.  Some were happy to

Yiannopoulos makes an excellent point about the nature of Twitter’s strategic 
error.  They forgot how precarious their position was, and they lost sight of

 This is a snapshot of a larger problem reaching across all of social media.  
It began with the promise of unfettered, unfiltered conversation — an exciting 
new frontier where anyone could hope to draw major attention, bypassing the 
editorial gatekeepers of old media.  
 

 Before the Internet, the infrastructure of national and global communications 
required a hierarchy of editors and publishers.  Someone had to own the 
printing presses, radio stations, and television studios, and someone had to 
decide how their incredibly limited bandwidth would be allocated.  There were 
only so many column inches of print available, only so much broadcast time to 
fill.
 

 Social media captured the imagination of a generation because all of that 
editorial infrastructure was done away with, for better and worse.  It was 
amazing to watch people form communities and build audiences organically.
 

 But now the tide has turned against free speech, in so many ways.  The urge to 
censor and control flows not just from government agencies, but from corporate 
management and speech-police vigilante mobs.  It has become fashionable in some 
quarters to speak openly of crushing dissent, comparing the speech of opponents 
to “shouting fire in a crowded theater.”  The desired remedies range from 
government action, to more subtle and insidious suppression by those who 
control the means of expression.
 

 In the early days of social media, we were overwhelmed by the possibilities 
for free speech and creativity.  At long last, we would have a true “free 
market” for ideas, with no one’s thumb on the scales!  Now it’s all thumbs, 
everywhere you look.

time travellers . . . it occured to me that time travel could be theoretically 
possible but maybe it is prohibitively expensive - using up half the energy in 
the Universe, say - or maybe Our Great Leader Nathaniel Clinton (Hillary and 
Bill's great-grandson) of the New World Order has forbidden the use of such 
machines because of the dangerous implications. 

 Also, light rays from the Battle of Hastings have been travelling into space 
since 1066. You can imagine scientists being able to refocus the rays to 
witness the scene (but crucially not being able to influence it).

 It's a bit like those who argue that if there are aliens how come we ain't 
seen them. 
 So if there are time machines how come no one from the future pops up with a 
cure for cancer.
 

 At least aliens are possible, even if they are a bit elusive or can't be 
bothered to get out much. But is time travel? Nobody has ever demonstrated that 
your traditional TARDIS, the one we all want, is actually permitted by the laws 
of physics. But some types of time travel are possible, and one is even really 
easy.
 

 The easy one is to travel relativistically into the Earth's future. All you 
need is a spaceship that can accelerate at one Earth gravity and then you go 
for a trip round the nearest star. Time will pass slowly for you but for 
observers on Earth it will go slow. So when you get back it's thousands of 
years into the future. This time dilation prediction of Einstein's was actually 
tested as far back as the 70's with one of those supersonic spyplanes and a 
pair of atomic clocks. Not what we want as you can't go backwards, not easily 
anyway but even that's theoretically possible, with caveats.
 

 I read a book by a top physicist who'd lost his father in Vietnam and promised 
himself that if it was possible he would build a time machine and go back to 
say goodbye. So he devoted a lot of time to it even while he was gaining tenure 
and a reputation for general extreme cleverness. Working on time travel is 
career suicide in those days so he kept it quiet until he was sure he'd cracked 
it and made a presentation to the world's finest minds at a conference, and 
they agreed with him that it's possible. 
 

 Tricky though, it involves manipulating the extreme time dilation effects 
round a spinning black hole with lasers and opening a wormhole to the past and 
flying through. Because time stands still relative to an observer, and is all 
so compressed as it spins round, it's apparently possible to travel backwards 
but not beyond the time when the machine was built. So time travel may be a 
thing of the future only and you might actually get people popping back with 
cures for things. But given the difficulty of getting near enough to a black 
hole to work on it with being destroyed yourself it seems like the last thing 
anyone is going to consider a good investment. 
 

 And Stephen Hawking thinks that the wormholes would collapse as soon as you 
entered them anyway, so it looks like history will continue to be just one damn 
thing after another...

 Rahu and Jupiter are still in tight conjunction on February 7, 2016 at the 
cusp of Leo.  Somebody should notify Home Security Department to put on high
