I think people claim cats kill too many songbirds. What about hawks, don't
they kill songbirds? What about raccoons? Yes, my cats get a few, very few,
but not as many as the bird people claim.

If the city council is full of idiots, you have a problem. Legal is what they
say is legal. You have to keep the pressure up from many sources to make them
change their minds.

Re: [Felvtalk] Felvtalk Digest, Vol 21, Issue 6

2013-04-21 Thread dlgegg
Everyone in my area knows that if they find a sick or injured animal, bring it
to Dorlis, the crazy cat lady. I even rescued a juvenile turkey vulture last
fall. After I noticed him, I made a call to the bird sanctuary in St. Louis to
find out what and how to do. They said give him some time and feed him. I
went to a meat processing place nearby and got a 5 gallon bucket of deer
trimmings every day for a bout a week. He recovered on his own, thank God,
because trying to capture him would put myself and my helper in jeopardy. It
seems that they bite with a mouth of razor sharp teeth and at the same time
vomit which could cause severe, possibly fatal infection. I do know how to do
it should I ever need to.
Now to your 3 legged cat. Has he not tamed down? Every feral I have found
eventually became the biggest baby, loving to sit on my lap and sleep on the
bed. Took me about 8 months of letting him/her decide when to take the next
step. I got bit a couple of times when I broke the rules (forgot to tap on door
so he could see me coming). He felt trapped, could not flee, so latched onto
my leg and bit.

My Nitnoy started laying around and not eating much. Turned out she had
blocked and infected anal glands. Might check them out.

MOVE OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS AND TAKE THE CATS WITH ME. LUCKY FOR ME I DO LIVE
OUTSIDE THE CITY SO I CAN FEED ALL I WANT TO AS LONG AS I CAN AFORD IT.

Same here. I do vaccinate my negatives for FELV just in case, but no one ever
bites, just slaps, growls and hisses. My vet says as long as the negatives re
vaccinated, should be okay.

Re: [Felvtalk] Mixing FelV pos. & neg

2013-04-21 Thread Lance
My family unintentionally mixed positives and negatives. We still don't know
how the virus got in. One of the positives was euthanized, which is when we
discovered the virus.

Seven years later, the other positive is lying across the bed looking at me.
She probably has lung cancer and possibly eye cancer, but she's done so well,
and I'm very grateful. Three other cats who also had a lot of exposure to the
positives tested negative. As far as I know, no one was vaccinated, though my
positive girl might have been. I don't think that she got anything beyond the
first vax. Not even sure about the booster. If I were to mix, I'd definitely
vaccinate the negs.

[Felvtalk] (no subject)

2013-04-21 Thread Karen Harshbarger
This is so sad that you can not feed outside cats  Cat friends in your area
need to ban together to try to get this changed.  Do the city codes allow such
a thing to happen or are they just deciding to do this.  Post on face book to
try to find some attorneys in the area that love cats that might be willing to
help.  Contact Alley Cat Allies or Best Friends and see if there is anything
they can do to help.  Good luck finding a way to try to advocate for the cats
in KS and the people that care about them___

Re: [Felvtalk] Mixing FelV pos. & neg

2013-04-21 Thread Lee Evans
Hi Marcia - Lee in Texas. Fortunately we dragged our Animal Control kicking and
screaming into the 21st century during the 20th century with protests against
their use of a pick-up truck engine with a tube extending into a hole in the
wall. The wall was part of a small room at the Animal Control facility where
they would toss unwanted dogs and cats, lock the door and turn on the truck
engine. Then we had to convince them to get rid of the relatively modern gas
chambers which replaced the truck engine, probably prototypes of the ones
Hitler used on unfortunate citizens. Finally they are doing Death By Injection
(they call is EBI, euthanisia by injection). Now we have to convince them that
excess animals are not criminals and should not be put to death. However, they
have accepted TNR and outside cat colonies. They really had no choice. San
Antonio's only major newspaper did several investigative articles on our lovely
City Pound as did The Current, San
Antonio's progressive newspaper which is very popular with people who have a
brain. Unfortunately, we have to stand ever vigilant here because the now
renamed Animal Care Services (what a joke!) goes forward with most of the
humans who run it having their heads turned on backwards or in a place where
the sun never shines.

You would probably do well to contact Alley Cat Allies at www.alleycat.org and
tell them what's going on. They might have some good advice as to how to get
this latest atrocity gone in your town. Yeah, cat feeders are much more
dangerous than drug users-dealers. Everyone knows that.

Spay and Neuter your cats and dogs and your weird relatives and nasty neighbors
too!
