Sounds like something is awry with your Fin2006 installation. Chuck, you may want to consider deleting all Fin2006-related stuff on your computer (including prefs and the MakeMusic folder in Application Support), repairing your preferences with Cocktail, reinstalling Fin2006 (run the pre-installer first!) and then repairing your preferences again. Don't know if it will help, but it couldn't hurt. I can't duplicate that behavior on my computer, so a clean reinstall of Finale is really the only thing I can suggest. Maybe also run a Data Check on files after you import them to Fin2006. - Darcy - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Brooklyn, NY ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
Re: [Finale] tools malfunctioning again
Hi Chuck, Try opening the older files from within Finale 2006 rather than double clicking them to open...also, I would create a backup of your Finale preferences once you have them the way you want them. Then when this happens, you can at least save yourself the trouble of re- creating them each time. Make sure to quit Finale before dragging the backed up preferences into your librarypreferences folder. Just another thought... -Karen On Aug 6, 2005, at 4:06 PM, Chuck Israels wrote: Well, it has happened again, and maybe this has to do with conversion from older documents. Re: [Finale] tools malfunctioning again
Hi Karen, I'll try this too. Something will have to work! If I save the preferences to a backed up place and then reinstall them, will the backed up preferences be corrupted so that I must rebuild them anyway? I'm not sure I understand where the corruption lives, if it is possible to save the preferences that seem to be causing the problem. First thing I'm going to try is the opening from within 2006 to see if that works any differently. I'll report soon. thanks, Chuck On Aug 6, 2005, at 4:24 PM, Karen wrote: Hi Chuck, Try opening the older files from within Finale 2006 rather than double clicking them to open...also, I would create a backup of your Finale preferences once you have them the way you want them. Chuck, The thing to do is to *duplicate* your backup prefs before moving *a copy* of your backup prefs into your Preferences folder (or Fin2006 folder, if that's where you keep them). The original backup prefs should never be touched. - Darcy - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Brooklyn, NY ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
Re: [Finale] tools malfunctioning again
Hi Karen, Thanks, I got this now, and understand it clearly, but a reinstall did nothing, so now I'm going to try to delete the new default preferences, quit and re-start Finale to see if that does anything positive. Back in a minute or so. Chuck On Aug 6, 2005, at 5:14 PM, Karen wrote: On Aug 6, 2005, at 4:30 PM, Chuck Israels wrote: Hi Karen, I'll try this too. Something will have to work! Hi Chuck, Not if you back up a non-corrupted version of your preferences and delete the old corrupted preferences when you have to replace them with a backup version. Again, make sure that you have quit out of Finale before you do this. I'm not sure I understand where the corruption lives, if it is possible to save the preferences that seem to be causing the problem. If you quit Finale, then trash the preferences as you mentioned you did before which fixed the problem. Then restart Finale and create a new clean document in 2006 for the purpose of resetting your preferences the way you want them to be set. Once you have them set them the way you like them, go to FileSave SpecialSave Preferences to make sure that prefs are in fact saved. Verify that all of the tools are still working properly and quit Finale. Then go into your preferences folder and option-drag your Finale preferences to where you want to save the backed up copy. This will make a copy of your clean, uncorrupted preferences. Whenever you need to restore your preferences after you have gotten a corruption or after a re-install of Finale, you can just option- drag your clean preferences back into the preferences folder. (as you probably already know, option dragging copies whatever file you have highlighted to the new location rather than simply moving it there as plain dragging does.) I have a clean version of my Finale preferences backed up...if for some reason, my prefs get corrupted which they don't often but have before...I can just replace them with the backup. Hope I understood your question correctly...:-) And I know this doesn't solve the problem with what is causing the corruption in the first place..I'm afraid I'm baffled by that one...I think Darcy has the right answer on that...a re-install may be in order. But hopefully this will save you some time with preferences rebuilding. Best, Karen First thing I'm going to try is the opening from within 2006 to see if that works any differently. Hi David, I'll take any suggestion I can get, but this doesn't seem to be the problem. For instance - select the tool from the pallet with the mouse, click on entry - nothing with those two tools. Other similar tools work as expected. It's mysterious. Thanks though. Chuck On Aug 6, 2005, at 5:36 PM, David W. Did you try selecting the tool from the Tools menu? Did you try double-clicking on the Tuplet tool to see if it brings up Document Options - Tuplets? Did you try selecting existing tuplets or chords with the selection tool? - Darcy - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Brooklyn, NY On 06 Aug 2005, at 9:49 PM, Chuck Israels wrote: Hi David, I'll take any suggestion I can get, but this doesn't seem to be the problem.
