[Flashcoders] FlexBuilder/Actionscript 3 Meta Tags
Aloha, I'm new to this list and looking forward to the support I can give and the help I can receive. Anyway, about a week ago I started programming in AS 3.0 in Flex Builder 2. Now I'm wondering about meta tags and so forth for code hinting. I would like to enable in the codeing process to provide textual information in the code completion tooltip. For example: if my method is: /* @summary Says hello to someone @arguments argName The name of the person to say hello to @returns True if the operation was successful and False if it failed */ public function sayHello(argName:String):Boolean { //code here... } if I type: MyClass.sayHello( rather than seeing sayHello(argName:String):Boolean in the code hinting window I want to see something like this: sayHello(argName:String):Boolean Say hello to someone TAKES: argString:String - The name of the person to say hello to RETURNS: True if the operation was successful and False if it failed Anyone know how to do this. I've searched the net and can't find anything. Search under flex builder, actionscript, flash, and eclipse for meta tags and wasn't able to locate a thing except for AS 2.0 components which are removed from 3.0 I had some of this when I was coding in primalscript and there were meta tags when I was working with ActionScript 2.0 and components. Are there any 3.0 meta tags anyone is aware of? RE: [Flashcoders] setInterval creates tooltip, then kills it
Actually, that was the mystery, because -- of course -- my tooltip text was *not* selectable, but the I-beam cursor showed up like an uninvited guest. Thanks for the tip! - MM Is there any reason why you need your tooltip text to be selectable? Selectable text gives you the i-beam cursor when you roll over it, and the i-beam interferes with button events. Is this feasible using flash and say, Zinc from Northcode? I was thinking it might be possible to integrate a flash projector and libextractor to do this. FW: [Flashcoders] Flash 8 Certification Study Tips?
Thank you to everyone for their assistance in helping me pass the Flash 8 Certification. I found your suggestions very helpful! I spent a day and a half studying through both Flash 8 Bible and Flash 8 ActionScript Bible. As an application developer who spends 95% of my time working with Components, Web Services, XML and classes, I found the design, video and audio questions to be challenging. If you are in the same boat as I was as a coder, I'd recommend spending time looking at the video, audio and design features. One of the things that I thought was interesting is that the test is titled Macromedia Flash(r) Professional 8 Exam. However, the logo I was able to download upon passing the certification and registering states Flash 8 Designer. As a developer, I personally would prefer if it just stated Flash 8 Certified. RE: [Flashcoders] Multidimensional Object/Array Question
Yeah, i don't touch AS2's xml api any more than I have to. I know there are other systems out there, but I find XPath does the job for me about 100% of the time. Here's a little tute I threw together for XPath: A little clarification I think is needed on that: 1) That's technically Xfactorstudio's Xpath classes, not simply Xpath - Xpath is a W3C standard *language* for grabbing parts of an XML document , which xfactorstudios did their own partial implementation of in the form of actionscript classes. I know you said it correct in your blog, so I'm not speaking to you directly Scott :) , I just wanted to clarify for the list. People on this list often use the term Xpath interchangably with Xfactorstudio's Xpath classes, which is incorrect. 2) Xfactorstudio's Xpath classes are huge and do not perform well on large projects/large data sets. For most things, I love those classes, they are great, but use caution and test often. 3) Great job posting a tutorial - there isn't much out there at all, and many of us can't move on to AS 3.0 just yet. :) Jason Merrill Bank of America Learning Organizational Effectiveness ___ Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com To change your subscription options or search the archive: http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders Brought to you by Fig Leaf Software Premier Authorized Adobe Consulting and Training http://www.figleaf.com http://training.figleaf.com

If there is any other data out there about adoption rate, current penetration, etc, that would be helpful. I'm not sure when we should expect the December consumer audit to be published. Usually it's a 6-8 week turnaround from the consumers to the audit bureau to Adobe to the website, but the year-end holidays could play hob with the schedule. If you're basing any business decision on that mid-September consumer testing, then, like Greg, I'd recommend Emmy Huang's context on slight timing differences in that cycle (released June 28 2006; audit mid-September; about ten weeks' worth of installations): http://weblogs.macromedia.com/emmy/archives/2006/11/flash_player_st.cfm I do have some untestable anecdotal information atop the above audits... completed installations per day (as measured by server pings at a Player's first startup) have been consistently in the 5-6 million per day range, except for early December when there was a sharp spike in boosting us into the 9M/day range (presumably from the casting-couch scandal in China, search term zhang yu). The early moves by MySpace and other sites to Adobe Flash Player 9 moved the adoption cycle forward a little bit (MySpace counts 90M members, less than three weeks' worth of normal Player distribution), but adoption has also generally been faster as well. Re: [Flashcoders] createTextField and embedding fonts
I ended up using Shared libraries but that wasn't the problem. I'm almost embarrassed to say... I had a movieclip where I was setting it's visibility to false and therefore wasn't seeing it. Wow... that was definitely a dumba$$ moment. I did however find that the shared library route was much more predictable. Everyone probably knows this but I'll post what I did anyway... I made a separate .fla called SharedFonts.fla and inside of that created a font symbol. I then checked the Export for ActionScript and the Export in first frame checkboxes. From there, I imported the SharedFonts.fla into my view .fla containing the text to which I wanted to apply the particular font. This part is a bit counter-intuitive. In order for the symbol to be available during runtime from my view .swf, the symbol inside of the view fla has to have a few properties set as well. First you must check the Export for ActionScript checkbox and supply a linkage identifier. Second, and this is the counter-intuitive portion, you MUST check the Export for runtime sharing check box and subsequently provide the location to the shared library .swf containing the font symbol. In my case this was SharedFonts.swf. Last, and I'm not sure if this is necessary or not, is to check the Export in first frame. So, to recap... 1. Create a SharedFonts.fla that will contain the font symbol you want to use in another movie. 2. Create the font symbol in SharedFonts.fla. Once the font symbol is created make sure to check the Export for ActionScript, Export in first frame checkboxes in the Properties dialog box. 3. Publish the .swf for the SharedFonts.fla. 4. Open the .fla in which you want to use the font symbol from SharedFonts.swf. 5. Then, go to File - Import - Open shared library... and open SharedFonts.fla 6. Drag the font symbol from the SharedFonts.fla library into your other fla's library that will be using the font. 7. Once the font symbol from SharedFonts.fla is in your other .fla's library right click on it (in your other .fla's library) and go to properties. Check the Export for ActionScript, Export for runtime sharing and Export in first frame checkboxes. Supply the location to SharedFonts.swf (e.g. SharedFonts.swf or somepath/SharedFonts.swf) in the URL field below the checkboxes. 8. Publish your other .fla and you should be good to go. One thing to be mindful of is the path to your SharedFonts.swf. This MUST be correct in order for these shared fonts to work. To simplify things I just placed the SharedFonts.swf in the same directory as my other .swf. I hope this helps someone Cheers, Thomas - Original Message - From: Glen Pike [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Flashcoders mailing list flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 2:59 PM Subject: Re: [Flashcoders] createTextField and embedding fonts Hi, Yes, you will probably need to use runtime sharing and load in the fonts contained in a different file. RE: [Flashcoders] FlexBuilder/Actionscript 3 Meta Tags
Thanks Jim, AsDoc isn't what I'm looking for but its a nice little easter egg to find. I wasn't aware of it. - For the mailing list, ASDoc is a command-line tool that is used to create HTML documentation from AS and MXML files. The HTML output looks very similar to the Flex 2 or ActionScript 3 Language Reference. - I'll try posting on the flex coders list as well though I'm not doing any Flex programming just using Flex Builder 2 to build my ActionScript classes for Flash 9. Does your Polygon class has a constuctor? [Flashcoders] array out of scope when used with listener
Hello Flash folk, Rather stumped here. Below is a pseudo class that displays an array of dynamically loaded jpegs. I need to arrange them next to each other, and since their widths are all different, I am using MovieClipLoader and the onLoadInit event to get the width and height of the jpeg only after it's loaded. I write these measurements to an array. So far so good. My problem comes when trying to read this array: it's empty! My guess is that the array goes out of scope with the onLoadEvent of the listener. Hopefully someone will have some ideas to help me push this rock a little bit further up the hill. Thanks! Daniel. _global.PhotoAlbum = function(photos_arr:Array) { this.holders = new Array();//holds movie clips this.dims = new Array();//i want to put widths and heights here //methods this.displayAlbum = function(Void) { var ref = this;//used within listener event var loader = new MovieClipLoader(); var listener = new Object(); //event handler to get width and height of loaded jpeg listener.onLoadInit = function(holder:MovieClip):Void { ref.setDims(holder._width, holder._height); } loader.addListener(listener); for (locIndex in this.photos) { var mc:String = mc + locIndex; var holder:MovieClip = createEmptyMovieClip(mc, getNextHighestDepth()); loader.loadClip(this.photos[locIndex], holder); holder._lockroot = TRUE; this.holders.push(holder); } this.arrangePictures(this.holders); trace (this.dims.length) //returns 0 :( }; //helper methods this.setDims = function(w:Number, h:Number) { this.dims.push(w); this.dims.push(h); trace (this.dims); //works okay! but only within this scope }; this.arrangePictures = function(holders:Array) { trace (this.dims.length) //returns 0 :( //my goal is to retrieve the widths and heights set by this.setDims, //but the this.dims array is empty at this point. //maybe something wrong with the scope? }; }; //I call it like this: photos_arr = [pic1.jpg,pic2.jpg,pic3.jpg]; album = new PhotoAlbum (photos_arr); album.displayAlbum(); ___ Flashcoders@chattyfig.figleaf.com To change your subscription options or search the archive: http://chattyfig.figleaf.com/mailman/listinfo/flashcoders Brought to you by Fig Leaf Software Premier Authorized Adobe Consulting and Training http://www.figleaf.com http://training.figleaf.com
