1. Fuse -- From what I have gathered, this is great for big
projects, but not so much for the small things.

But not really big projects, or projects that already have a lot of
overhead in the CPU already. I have found the performance of Fuse to be
less than satisfactory in stressful situations. This is my personal
experience only. Open up a .swf that uses Fuse with a .swf decompiler
and you'll see how much extra code you're adding to your projects.
Using the Fuse classes, (unless you selectively import only the ones you
need - if you are savy enough to figure that out), will add 30k to your
Flash file and almost 4,000 lines of code.

Jason, as this is your second direct rebuff of the Fuse Kit,
it seems you may have other reasons for not promoting it.

Is it out of the scope of this list to wonder why?

30k?

I understand the problem if you're engineering web based
apps, not including overextended RAI's which are much different.

it seems one Man's performance is another's, well - performance.

30k is large but not so unreasonable for smooth animation which
brings web environments closer to real life, aka video, aka motion
graphics, aka sales.

What does the Fuse kit does to animation that is smoother and closer

Confirmed. I'm experiencing the same situation.
I see my cpu (Athlon 64,3GHz) utilization often rises up to above 80%
when I play with a Fuse-based animation - even a simple one like a
mousetrail.

Glad to know that my machine is not the only one that suffers from Fuse.

I've yet to use Fusekit (only used MX tras / tween) and have been quite
happy with performance / usability.

I realize that Fusekit's API is far more sexy and desireable, but so far
haven't seen them do anything that I can't accomodate myself. Such as a
Sequence, Parallel, etc.

AS3 will also encapsulate most of this functionality in a very handy manner.
Not sure about the size / performance ratio, but it's seemed fine to me,
from what I've used so far.

Thanks for all the replies all, I really appreciate the advice and links. :)

And yes, Fuse looks very cool.

Found this vid tut site a while back that does a good job at showing
some basics:

*Animating with Fuse*
http://www.gotoandlearn.com/

But a lot of my projects are very simple (banners, adverts, simple
animations)... I find that mx.transitions does the trick (or Tween
Extended, see below)... although, if I am ever in a situation where Fuse
is the better option, I will most definitely use it (seems like it would
be over-kill for the basic stuff.) :)

And thanks for the links to the other options... those look nice too.
Going to read-up on them now (Transition and tween explorer, and MC
Tween.) :D

What do you all think about Tween Extended?

(Found under AS2 classes)
http://www.sqcircle.com/downloads/

Seems like a great way to animate multiple properties at once. I am
using it my current project and it seems to work great.

So, out of all the above mentioned classes/scripts, what is best?

1. Fuse -- From what I have gathered, this is great for big projects,
but not so much for the small things.

2. Transition and tween explorer -- ?
3. MC Tween -- ?
4. Tween Extended -- ?

Out of the last 3, which is the better choice? I like the fact that
Tween Extended allows for multiple properties on one line... Seems like
a must-have feature. Which is the most light-weight? Which is coded
better (which would probably mean more light-weight and smaller in file
size)?

Of course, it sounds like all of this will change with AS3. I can not
wait to make the upgrade. :P

Many thanks all, I hope your December is going well. :)
Cheers,
Micky
