[Flightgear-devel] VFR scenery

2006-01-09 Thread Justin Smithies
How difficult would it be to allow FG to use VFR scenery ?

I.E. Allow the use of x-plane vfr cd's or data from this site

[Flightgear-devel] Stall warning in aircraft

2006-01-10 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi all,
 I want to add a stall warning into an aircraft i am building. Is this
the code needed.
Where is the figure for the speed at which the stall warning is activated ?
If not where is this located in the 737 folder for example?

   stall
   Sounds/stall.wav
   /sim/alarms/stall-warning

/velocities/airspeed-kt
30.0

[Flightgear-devel] 737 project

2006-02-02 Thread Justin Smithies
Who all would be interested in updating or rather building a new 737 model
with 3d panels etc and more working realistic features. Using the latest
Boeing 737 data ?
We could maybe setup a website for it and pass on the model to Curtis for
inclusion into Flightgear when its flyable.

We would need a good 3d modeller for a start as im not that hot.
I can do coding and getting the data / layouts / photos etc from Boeing

Maybe noone will be interested ? Let me know.

[Flightgear-devel] Accessing FG tree

2006-02-03 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi can anyone help me out here.
I want to write a shell script that will telnet to the FG root and read
certain values into variables.
It also has to be able to write new values back using telnet.

Im trying to make a script that will run in the background and control certain
functions on my home cockpit.

I am just unsure how to implement the telnet bit in a script and have it read
or write data from variables to the FG tree.

[Flightgear-devel] Displaying fullscreen PFD2

2006-02-06 Thread Justin Smithies
So help me out guys please.

If i want to run FG on one pc with dual head card for scenery , and use the
other running FG and networked to the 1st. If i modify my 737 on the 2nd pc
to only display a fullscreen PFD2 will this take its readings from the master
pc doing the scenery etc ?

Also to blow up the PFD2 to full screen 1024 * 768 how would this apply in the
X1 X2 and Y1 Y2 settings as i dont quite understand them yet?
I know i will have to draw my own textures to the required size its just the
placing bit that gets me.
I'll paste a bit of the PFD2 code in so you can see what i mean.

   background

Aircraft/737-test/Instruments/Textures/ah-face2.rgb

   250

Any help will be much appreciated.

Re: [Flightgear-devel] dual head linux FG

2006-02-10 Thread Justin Smithies
Right ive got FG to use 2 screens , i just have one more problem which
probably FG cant do yet.
When i bank left or right the both screens bank but do not join up at the
meeting point if you know what i mean.
One screens scenery is higher than the other.

This is my command line to run FG

fgfs --enable-game-mode --geometry=2048x768 --aircraft=737 --airport-id=EGPD
--runway=16 --enable-real-weather-fetch --bpp=32 --enable-ai-models
--enable-horizon-effect --enable-auto-coordination

Any ideas ?

[Flightgear-devel] Linux nvidia twinview

2006-02-11 Thread Justin Smithies
Guys i need some tips please.
I've got twin view setup using 2 identical monitors @ 1024*768 giving me an
effective 2048*768 display.
The only problem i have is that where the monitors meet i need to add some
dead space so the FG cockpit display looks right because at the moment when
say a control tower goes from the 1st left screen ( right hand side of
screen ) to the 2nd screen ( left hand side ) you end up with two halves of
the tower across the screen.
I would like if poss to create a dead area just like you would see looking out
of the cockpit where 2 windows are seperated by a frame.

Any tips would be very welcome.

Below is the setup im using from xorg.conf.

Section "Device"
Identifier  "nvidia"
Driver  "nvidia"
#VideoRam131072
# Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
Option  "TwinView"  "yes"
Option  "MetaModes" "1024x768,1024x768 -300+0;800x600,800x600"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "LeftOf"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30 - 70"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "50 - 160"
Option  "NoTwinViewXineramaInfo"

EndSection

[Flightgear-devel] network issues

2006-02-11 Thread Justin Smithies
I cant seem to get my FG to send anything over the network or even to its own
loopback address. I'm using the current cvs updated daily.

The line is --native=socket,out,30,192.168.0.2,5500,udp

I've tried using tcp and udp , ive tried the opengc but i still get error
writing data.

Ive tried dif i.p addresses for my network even 127.0.0.1
My routers firewall is allowing all udp and tcp on any port / i.p at the
moment as i thought it might be the problem, but it seems FG cant even send
the data as i dont see activity on my network.

Please help

[Flightgear-devel] wish list

2006-02-11 Thread Justin Smithies
For dualhead displays i feel or rather need this feature adding.

My two screens are setup as one virtual screen over 2048*768. ( 2 x 1024*768 )
( Running Linux , nvidia 5200 dual head ))
I would like an option to be added to the FG command line that would remove so
much of the screen on the right so where my two monitors join its like having
the window strut seperators.
At the moment you can end up seeing 2 runway marker lines as the screen goes
off one to the other.

Anybody else agree ?

Is this possible say --dual-head ???

Justin Smithies

Re: [Flightgear-devel] wish list

2006-02-11 Thread Justin Smithies
Would it really be that much of a problem to code to make FG accept an option
like --dual-head= ( numerical value in pixels )

Which would tell FG to redraw the last half of the screen ( no pixels from
halfway in ) on the next half of the screen.

This would fix the display issue and it would be tatally adjustable depending
on your monitor sizes.

FG would only do this if the above option was selected.

Surely that wouldn't cause too much of an issue ?

Re: [Flightgear-devel] socket output problems

2006-02-15 Thread Justin Smithies
How Curtis as im trying to run Johns Glass cockpit software demo on the same
machine and i cant get FG to send data to it.

Ive set his software to use port 6000 and my i.p. 192.168.1.3 it runs up and
appears to be awaiting data.

Then i run FG with

fgfs --opengc=socket,out,30,192.168.1.3,6000,udp

And all i get is Error writing data.

But if i issue FG with a dummy i.p like 192.168.1.6 no errors, so that just
confuses me as you said the error was because it got no reply from the
running service.
There is nothing on 192.168.1.6 .

Anymore ideas ?

[Flightgear-devel] 737-800

2006-02-17 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi all,
  I've been trying to modify the 737-300 to a 737-800 , well upgrade.
I have modified the engines from data on the net and some other variables.
The model is untouched except for it is now in Lufthansa colours.
Also the cockpit requires work too and its still 2d.
I have modified the sounds though so the engines sound a bit more realistic
when you open the throttles etc and also the rumble along the runway is a
little better.
If anyone is interested in helping me with this please let me know and i'll
email you the file.

Cheers
Justin Smithies

[Flightgear-devel] aircraft xml files

2006-02-18 Thread Justin Smithies
quick question :

Is it possible to modify the aircraft files for an aircraft like hotspots etc
whilst you have FG running in another window ? Will these changes take place
or would i have to restart FG to see the changes ?

[Flightgear-devel] needles on guages

2006-02-18 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi can someone get me started by explaining how i get a needle on the left oil
preesure gauge. I know what property to
use /engines/engine[0]/oil-preesure-psi

I need to know what variables tell it where it is placed etc.
Once i see how one is done i can continue and add the rest etc.

Please if you use examples add it to the 737 eicas.xml so i can see myself.

Cheers in advance

Justin Smithies

2006-02-18 Thread Justin Smithies
Sorry guys for those of you trying the updated 737 EICAS you will have to
change the paths in the xml file as i have them as 737-test not 737.

oops ;)

I'll make sure future updates are correct .

[Flightgear-devel] 737 EICAS

2006-02-19 Thread Justin Smithies
A few more fixes to the EICAS on the 737 .

The fuel tank guages now resemble the EICAS on a real 737 .
Instead of all three tanks being numbered 2 there is now 1 , 2, and CTR

I have attatched the update rgb files and eicas.xml

Also i have corrected the paths so this should just drop into the standard 737
model
Maybe Curtis can commit this to the cvs ?

Do i have to put in some sort of id in the command line to identify me to the

Does the aircraft affect what the tower atc says or allows you to say ?

I have took off from Dundee flown to dyce and im on com0 118.10 i hear them
talking but pressing ' i still get no transmission available.

Using latest cvs version and AI on level 1 now.

Try this

fgfs --fg-root=/opt/flightgear/share/FlightGear
--fg-scenery=/opt/flightgear/share/FlightGear/Scenery --airport-id=EGPD
--runway=16 --aircraft=737-300 --control=joystick --disable-random-objects

--fov=55 --time-match-local --httpd=5501
--prop:/sim/sound/voices/enabled=true

And let me know if you can contact the tower.

[Flightgear-devel] mk-viii instrument addition to cvs

2006-02-27 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi all,
 I've just tested the mk-viii instrument on the 737-300 and it works
great.
I have the files required for addition to the FG cvs and it compiles fine.
All thanks have to go to Jean-Yves Lefort for this excellent bit of coding.

Email me and i'll send the files for you to test.

This has to be added to the cvs as it can be used in any aircraft.

You get vocal warnings for bank angles to too low / terrain warnings etc and
pull up.

I'll put together a doc on how to implement it into aircraft shortly.

[Flightgear-devel] Real weather

2006-02-28 Thread Justin Smithies
I have a couple of questions concerning the real weather option.

Does it only load the weather on startup or does it do a fresh D/L every 5 -
10 mins etc.
The reason i ask is that the weather changes here at EGPD but in FG i have to
reset it to get a new update.
If it doesnt do a periodic update would it be possible to add this ?

Also does the weather info include snow and ice ?

As i have noticed winter scenery tiles and it has been dinging it down snow
here allday but in FG i see no evidence of snow etc on the landscape ?

[Flightgear-devel] 737 diy cockpit

2006-03-03 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi guys ,
   Can anyone help me out here with coding etc.
I'm constructing a 737 cockpit at home using FG and several pc's.
I'm building my own hardware / interfaces but i'm stuck on certain things.
I noticed when running the 737-300 model if i switch off the fuel pumps this
has no effect on the engines at all.
How can i make the pumps turning off have an effect on the engines etc.
Also i'd like to implement the crossfeeds so i can have the switches in my
cockpit too.
Anyone any ideas or working examples ?

For starters turning off the fuel pump , the engine should start to become
starved of fuel and stop
I also noticed that none of the electrical systems can be switched off either.
I am trying to add as much realism i.e. switches etc to this as possible.

[Flightgear-devel] 737-300 diy cockpit

2006-03-04 Thread Justin Smithies
Propert tree issues i'm having which didnt used to happen before.

Whilst looking at the property tree /engines/engine and /engines/engine[0]

I have noticed that if i change values like running to false they revert
straight back to true.

The same with things like the cutoff i'm sure this used to stop the engine but
it doesnt any longer.

Anybody help me out and let me know whats stopping these properties from
working.

Justin Smithies

[Flightgear-devel] 737-300 engines

2006-03-06 Thread Justin Smithies
Just a thought about my earlier email regarding switching off the fuel pump on
the 737's engines having no effect.

Would it not be possible to write a nasal script that would detect the fuel
pump propery and if false gradually start reducing power via the throttle
property until the engine is shutdown ?

I'd rather not use the older version as suggested by John.

Hey thanks,
  But just to get me going could you write it out as if it
was doing the following in script form.
That should help me heaps to understand this and keep me busy too ;)

Say i wanted to monitor the /engines/engine[0]/cutoff property.
If it ever changed to true i would like to erm just for the sake of it say
turn /engines/engine[0]/reverse to true.

I know this can't and wont happen but it would help me see how this works and
give me a good start.

Cheers in advance

2006-03-06 Thread Justin Smithies
Getting errors saying it could not read script file engine.nas into module
engine.

Could it be that the values for the cuttoff and reverse should be true or
false not 0 or 1 .
If so can you rewrite that script so if i change ( toggle ) cutoff from false
to true and visaversa it will write to the reversed property either true or
false.
Then maybe you can kill me for all this hassle , but beleive me i do
appreciate the help you are providing me.

I found how to implement the script i added into the set.xml file

[Flightgear-devel] nasal code problems

2006-03-06 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi all can someone fix this test script for me and show me the error of my
ways.

Its just a test so dont panic about what it actually does. Just so i can see
how to affect other values using a script and viewing all on the same http
page of the property tree makes it easier for me.

setlistener("/controls/engines/engine/cutoff", func {
var new_cutoff = cmdarg().getBoolValue();
if (new_cutoff == 0 ){
setprop("/controls/engines/engine/reverser", 0);
} else {
if (new_cutoff == 1 ){
setprop("/controls/engines/engine/reverser", 1);
}
}
}

It is supposed to read the property /controls/engines/engine/cutoff and if it
is 0 set the property /controls/engines/engine/reverser to 0 and also if the
cutoff changes to 1 then so should the reverser value change to 1.

I seem to have the {} () ; wrong somewhere and maybe some other little errors.

Please help

Justin Smithies

Re: [Flightgear-devel] nasal code problems

2006-03-06 Thread Justin Smithies
Fixed it guys ...

setlistener("/controls/engines/engine/cutoff", func {
var new_cutoff = cmdarg().getBoolValue();
if (new_cutoff == 0 ){
setprop("/controls/engines/engine/reverser", 0);
} else {
if (new_cutoff == 1 ){
setprop("/controls/engines/engine/reverser", 1);
}
}
});

Now i see how this works.

Thanks anyway.

[Flightgear-devel] 737-300 panel file

2006-03-06 Thread Justin Smithies
Dont know if anyone will find this usefull , but i have modified the
737-ifr-panel.xml so if the master bat switch is put off the pfd1 and pfd2
and the eicas all go off.

Mind you will have to set the /instrumentation/pfd1/servicable to true
and the same for pfd2 and eicas also.
Just add the above config to the 737 set file.

I also have a nasal file which maybe doesnt simulate the aircraft well but if
the master battery switch is put off it will kill the engines. ( cutoff )

[Flightgear-devel] nasal questions

2006-03-06 Thread Justin Smithies
I have setup my 737-300 so if i turn off the battery it kills the engines and
the cockpit instruments , now i know i need to read more on the 737
electrical systems but for now this is fine for me.
But how do i play a wav file when the engines go below the idle limit ?
I.e. i have a wav file of the engines running down. It would have to be looped
with pitch etc and vol.

Also i would like to implement a running up wav file for when they are
started.

Regards,
Justin Smithies

I tell you what i have found that is near enough realistic.
If i kill the engines via the cutoff if im higher enough i can dive slightly
and get the engines to spin up again and start just as in a real aircraft.

I have found the other values :

Ideal volts - 24
ideal amps - 60
amp hours - 40

not sure about charge percent - 1 ?

charge amps ?? 7 maybe

[Flightgear-devel] 737-300 project

2006-03-09 Thread Justin Smithies
Right i think Marcus is right, we should have group together and find out who
is doing what with regards to the 737-300.

I could setup a small site on my server that will list everybodies details of
what is being done by whom.
Also what and who is needed etc.

We could also maybe start sharing the 737-300 development code so we can all
test and give each other comments before it is posted to the cvs .

What does everyone think ?

I'll stop work on the electrical systems and leave it in Marcus's capable
hands as he seems further on than me.

I'll look at the list and pick another section to start on , maybe
hydraulics ?
I will let you guys know.

[Flightgear-devel] 737-electrical.nas

2006-03-09 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi Marcus,
   I tried your nasal scripts for the electrical system and i
get the following errors.

Nasal runtime error: undefined symbol

at
/opt/flightgear/share/FlightGear/Aircraft/737-Sim/Systems/737-electrical.nas,
line 9

I just saved the files from your email.

I have them running in the order of

electrical.nas
737-electrical.nas

I even tried them the other way around.

Any ideas ?

Re: [Flightgear-devel] 737-300 development (was: 737-300 electrical systems)

2006-03-10 Thread Justin Smithies
Just a quick question.

I am currently building a diy 737-300 cockpit , and i am going to link all the
real switches / lights etc to a pc that will read / write directly from the
FG prop tree based on values there.
So i take it the way this project is going that there will be switches and
inditcators + various variables in the FG prop tree eventually for every
instrument / electrical system.

[Flightgear-devel] 737-300 cvs

2006-03-10 Thread Justin Smithies
Dont know if anyone else would agree but here goes

Wouldnt it be better for everyone involved in the 737 project to start
uploading their code / gfx etc into the cvs ?
Even if say Marcus's electrical system is not finished it doesnt have to be
activated on the model until its ready .
I.E. It can keep the generic electrical system but the nasal code can still be
incorporated and updated it just wont run unless your a developer wishing to
test these features in which case you'll know what to do.
This would ensure other developers can keep track as to whats going on and
what still needs to be done etc.

Any comments ?

2006-03-11 Thread Justin Smithies
So Markus agree's too , Can we start commiting code to the 737-300 cvs , as
long as it leaves the current files operational please ?
Anybody else that has developed code or panels etc for this model should
commit it to cvs too but make sure the model still works.
All this extra stuff can be tied in later once tested by all on the 737-300
team.

Could it not be reproduced by writing a nasal script supply all the values
needed by the electrical sytems ?
I.E. i presume it would be a fixed rpm drive system and it would need a
variable for on / off etc and also would supply a voltage variable /
current.
It would also read the values for whats in the fuel tanks , if no fuel then it
doesnt run etc.

[Flightgear-devel] 737-300 development

2006-03-15 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi all,
  This may sound daft but i've setup cvs on my server to hold the
737-300 development that me , Markus and others are doing so it does not
touch the FG model until the model authors are happy with changes etc and
wish to commit the changes to the FG cvs.

Anybody who has been doing new gfx or coding on the 737-300 who would like cvs
access should email me.

I will shortly give the url for checking out this code as soon as it is
committed.

Regards,
Justin Smithies

[Flightgear-devel] 737-300 cvs development

2006-03-16 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi all,
  If you are developing for the 737-300 project and wish to add your
code to the cvs then email me for an account to be setup .

If you just want to checkout the code then do the following.

cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs login

Password is guest

cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs co 737-300

And for those who cant use cvs for some reason i will be putting up a site for
this model with all its technical specs etc and contributors.

Justin Smithies

[Flightgear-devel] Flightgear AI Aircraft

2006-03-25 Thread Justin Smithies
Guys,
   I'm unsure what to do here.
I have visited the site http://www.xs4all.nl/~dtalsma/flightgear.html
and downloaded the 737 file.

As instructed i have done the following :

Click on the link below to download one of the aircraft packages. To install,
create a directory ${FG_ROOT}/data/Aircraft/AI, copy the zip file to this
directory and extract the zip file.

So i made a dir in Aircraft called AI then unzipped the file there.

I enable AI but i dont see no models ?

What am i doing wrong ??
Can someone help me put please.

Cheers

[Flightgear-devel] nasal help required

2006-03-26 Thread Justin Smithies
Hi all ,
   Can someone help me out here please.

I want to make a nasal script that watches controls/gear/gear-down using a
listener.

When called this is what i would like to happen.

If /systems/electrical/volts > 22 then let the gear go up or down.

If /systems/electrical/volts < 22 then make the gear stay where they are.

I did have a bash at this myself but cant seem to get it to work right.

# Set listners for certain conditions.

gear = func {
power = getprop("/systems/electrical/volts");
status = getprop("controls/gear/gear-down");
if (power > 22 and status == 1) {
 setprop("controls/gear/gear-down", 1);}
elsif (power > 22 and status == 0) {
 setprop("controls/gear/gear-down", 0);}
elsif (power < 22 and status == 0) {
 setprop("controls/gear/gear-down", 1);}
elsif (power < 22 and status == 1) {
 setprop("controls/gear/gear-down", 0);}
} # end function

setlistener("controls/gear/gear-down", gear);

See what i mean ? All messed up ;)

Thanks in advance,
Justin Smithies

How do i also make the flaps and rudder very sluggish ( Not very responsive (

I know this sounds daft but i am getting somewhere .
I will be chaning the checks to hydraulics as soon as i have that running.
Just need to work out some more details.
