[Flightgear-users] fgrun aborts after selecting paths

2005-01-15 Thread Don Oliver
Now successfully running FlightGear-0.9.8 pre2

Trying to install and run fgrun-0.4.5

The GUI comes up, and I fill in the paths under
Select Paths.
When I click on the Next button, the dialog box
disappears, and on the command line is “Aborted”

I ran ./configure again, and the last lines after all
checking are:

configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: creating fgrun.vcproj
config.status: creating src/Makefile
config.status: creating src/config.h
config.status: src/config.h is unchanged
config.status: executing depfiles commands

Is there any clue here, or must I look somewhere else?

Thanks,

Don Oliver

[Flightgear-users] fgkicker - GUI for starting FlightGear

2005-01-09 Thread Don Oliver
Hi All,

I have just installed 'FG kicker' as a GUI for
starting FlightGear, and it is very good.

http://users.pandora.be/ceppe/projects/fgkicker.html

FG kicker looks for the executable 'fgrun' in
/usr/games so, if you're using 0.9.8, you must add
/some/path/FlightGear-0.9/source/src/Main to PATH.

Jon,

My mistake! FG has never, contrary to the
documentation, ever installed fgrun on my system!

I meant to say, of course, it looks for 'fgfs'.

Sorry for the confusion.

[Flightgear-users] Joystick - how to make FG use my joystick.xml?

2005-01-08 Thread Don Oliver
js_demo recognizes my joystick as Logitech Inc.
WingMan Force 3d

0.9.8 has wingman-force-3d.xml

In 0.9.4, which did not have the file for this
joystick, I just edited the default joystick.xml to
have the values that I wanted

How do I tell FG to use wingman-force-3d, instead of
the default joystick.xml?

I can not find this in the documentation, nor anything
to tell me whether I should use an xml file, or put
the lines resulting from fgjs into my .fgfsrc. I know
how to do both, but not which one to choose.

Thanks,

What joystick problem? g Well, not so fast! If I
don't understand the system any better than I do now,
I won't know, in some cases, if the problem is with
the doc or my system.
The other thing is, I'm using version 0.9.3, which is
quite old, but the laterst for which there is an RPM.

I understand that a version update is imminent, so it
seems to me that it would be better to get the new
version before I do anything, as some things may not
be relevant.
This would mean that I had to compile from source, so
will probably take me a while.

 ..'jscal -h '. Aaafter you've fixed the docs. ;-)

Yeah, I'd calibrated before, but it seems some steps
should be done in a certain order. Thanks for
reminding me.
Since .fgfsrc wasn't accepting joystick commands, I
modified Default/joystick.xml to get the functions and
settings that I wanted. This works.

You've been a big help, and I will try to put
something back into the project when I can. Thanks,

From the Flight gear website, under Documentation, "Flight Gear Installation and Getting Started." The above quote was from page 40 of the pdf doc, 4.4 Command Line Parameters.
This document seems to be out of date.A couple oflines that I put into .fgfsrc, that Flight Gear objected to, were taken from this section. Some are not quite clear, such as "--control-mode". This should be shown as "control-mode" (in my opinion). I used "control-mode joystick", which obviously did not work. g
"--units-feed: use feet for distance" - well, even I could figure this one out, but the document, as much of the Linux documentation, needs a good proofreader , preferably someone who is not an expert on the subject, so will spot things that are not clear.
"--disable-freeze" it didn't like this one, for some reason, so I took it out.
Not to brag (well, a little bit) but I am a good proof reader, who is definitely not an expert on the subject, who would be quite happy to submit nit-picking, if anyone is interested.

Thanks Arnt,

When I get everything working, and understand what is

get my joystick working properly. .fgfsrc now
recognizes the commands, including --input-joystick,
but the settings transferred from fgfsrc.js are not
used. Instead, it appears to be using
..Default/joysticks.xml. My joystick is a Logitech
WingMan Force 3d, which mdk 10.0 recognizes, and has
the proper driver for, but Flight Gear does not have
it in ..data/joysticks.xml.

So far, I can find no info as to how to tell Flight
Gear which file to use. I deleted the joystick
property lines in .fgfsrc, and the joystick behaviour
is unchanged (recognizes elevator, ailerons and
throttle, but the calibration is away off.
I think that this may be my last problem (I hope). g

[Flightgear-users] .fgfsrc not recognized

2005-01-01 Thread Don Oliver
Flight Gear will not recognize my .fgfsrc.
I have tried it with this file in:
   /usr/games (where fgfs is installed)
   /usr/share/games/FlightGear
   /usr/share/games/FlightGear/data

Using Mandrake 10.0
First, I was using flightgear0.9.3-1mdk, which came
with the power pack CDs. Then I uninstalled it, and
installed flightgear-0.9.3-1mdk (.i586.rpm) using a
urpmi mirror.
No difference.

I can use FlightGear with the keyboard (but the
controls are too coarse). My new joystick works but,
since the program won't recognize .fgfsrc, to which I
appended the joystick settings, the controls are not
correct.

As I can find no reference to anyone else having this
problem (using Google and web searches), I assume it
must be something simple that I am missing.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The usual problem is that the automake soft link is
 pointing to the wrong

Delete automake 1.4 and fix up the automake link.
Often the link points to places like /opt/... or
 /etc/alternatives/... which
in turn points back to /usr/bin/automake-1.*

Thanks. Paul.
I will sort this out. The original autoconf and
automake were installed as part of the 10.0
installation, and the later versions were downloaded
as .tar.gz files, which got installed in a different
place.

Today, I bought myself a joystick, so I wouldn't have

If I can impose on you a little more, could you
possibly tell me how to straighten this out - or point
me to a resource where I can read up on such?

Thanks again,
Don

[Flightgear-users] fgrun install problem

2004-12-24 Thread Don Oliver
Hi All,

I am having problems installing fgrun.
So far, all have been solved except that './configure'
now shows some no answers in checking (don't know
the significance of these), and 'make' gives an error
message.
Attached are the results of these two commands.

System is running Mandrake 10.0
Flight Gear works OK, but I would like to get fgrun
going, if possible.

I have updated SimGear, automake and autoconf.

Any suggestions as to what to check will be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Don Oliver
