Hi
I used to apply paragraphs by pressing F9++Enter. Suddenly this doesn't work in Framemaker 8.
Do you know why - I have seen it working.

Adobe Unveils Technical Communication Suite

2007-09-24 Thread Dov Isaacs
( BW)(CA-ADOBE-SYSTEMS)(ADBE) Adobe Unveils Technical Communication
Suite

Integrated Toolkit for Technical Writers Includes Major Upgrade to
RoboHelp

Business Editors/Technology Writers

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2007--Adobe Systems
Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced Adobe(R) Technical
Communication Suite software, a first-of-a-kind, integrated solution
for authoring, managing, and publishing technical information and
training content across multiple formats and languages. Using the
Adobe Technical Communication Suite, technical communicators and
instructional designers can create powerful documentation, eLearning
courses and user assistance programs containing both traditional text
and graphics along with rich media, including Adobe Flash(R) Player
compatible video and 3D.

The suite includes Adobe RoboHelp(R) 7, a major upgrade to Adobe's
help system and knowledge base authoring tool, as well as Adobe
FrameMaker(R) 8, Adobe Captivate(R) 3 and Adobe Acrobat(R) 3D Version
8 software. Product and workflow integration and support for rich
media formats -- including Adobe Flash Player compatible video, SWF,
MP3 and AVI files as well as industry standards, such as Adobe
Portable Document Format (PDF), XML and Darwin Information Typing
Architecture (DITA) -- empower authors to deliver compelling
information, save time and reduce discrepancies in content.

"Adobe's leadership in the industry puts us in a unique position
to deliver a completely new product, targeted squarely at technical
communicators and instructional designers," said Naresh Gupta, senior
vice president, Print and Classic Publishing at Adobe. "The Technical
Communication Suite provides all the tools publishers need to take
technical communication to the next level with dramatically improved
workflows and rich features like video, animations, 3D and Unicode
support."

Inside the Technical Communication Suite

Introduced today, RoboHelp 7 delivers major new features enabling
technical communicators to author, manage, and publish engaging
content for embedded help systems and standalone knowledge bases. For
the first time, technical communicators can easily update their online
help systems with information authored in FrameMaker 8, without the
need to re-import files for each update. The new release also adds
Unicode support for publishing in multiple languages.

Automated wizards and topic templates allow users to incorporate
standard and advanced help features, including table of contents,
indexes, glossaries, graphics, sound, video, simulations and
navigation. Authors can generate multiple tables of content and apply
conditional tags, index items, folders, and tailor output for specific
purposes and formats, such as HTML, Adobe PDF and FlashHelp(R).
RoboHelp 7 also supports a Multiple Document Interface (MDI) allowing
easy copy and paste editing across topics. Additional new features
include an updated and customizable user interface, enhancements to
the HTML editor, and improved navigation and search features. For more
details please visit www.adobe.com/products/robohelp.

Launched in July 2007, FrameMaker 8 is a complete authoring and
publishing tool that combines the simplicity of word processing with
the power of XML. The new version adds support for 3D, DITA, XML and
Unicode. With the integration of Adobe Captivate 3 technical authors
can deliver high-impact information with quizzes, visual product
demonstrations and simulations - all without the need for multimedia
development skills. Acrobat 3D version 8 delivers a complete and more
secure way to collaborate with extended teams on 3D designs via Adobe
PDF documents. Technical communicators can easily manipulate and
incorporate interactive 3D models without having to purchase CAD
software.

Pricing and Availability

Adobe Technical Communication Suite will be available for
Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) and Windows(R) XP and is expected to
ship by the end of October 2007 at an estimated price of US$1,599.
Users can upgrade for an estimated price of US$999 if they have prior
versions of Adobe Captivate, FrameMaker or RoboHelp. To learn more
about the suite please visit
www.adobe.com/technicalcommunicationsuite.

RoboHelp 7 and RoboHelp Server 7 will be available for Microsoft
Windows Vista, Windows XP or Windows 2000 and are expected to ship by
the end of October 2007 at an estimated price of US$999 for RoboHelp 7
and US$1,999 for RoboHelp Server 7. Customers of RoboHelp 6 and
RoboHelp Server 6 can upgrade for an estimated price of US$79 and
US$160 respectively. Customers of any previous version of RoboHelp can
upgrade to RoboHelp 7 for an estimated price of US$499. For more

Folks,

I'm running a Dell Dimension 8200, 2.53ghz, 1gig PC800RAM, FrameMaker
7.0p579.

I am accustomed to Frame's memory leak, but this looks different...see
pix. Notice the Task Bar. Only Outlook, Firefox, FrameMaker, and
TextPad were open. Only one file was open in FrameMaker. I had just
inserted and formated two graphics and some text.

Is additional RAM a potential solution?...thanks, Kelly.

Adobe Acrobat 8 and Frame 7.0

2007-09-24 Thread Art Campbell
If you're not having them now, you're not likely to have them after
your upgrade; it doesn't have as much to do with Acrobat as it does
with Frame and the operating system's management of fonts.

But, just in passing, there's a reason that there have been a couple
of point releases. 7.2 is much more stable than 7.0...

Rick Quatro's Page Labeler and ePub 9.2 with Frame 8,

2007-09-24 Thread Flato, Gillian
This is kind of random, but if you use Rick Quatro's Page Labeler and
ePub 9.2 with Frame 8, make sure that before you scan your docs with
ePub and build your help file, that you remove the page labeler
numbering (PageLabeler > Remove PDF Page numbering). Obviously, you
don't need the numbering with a help file.

I had all kinds of weird text in my help files that started and stopped
with Page Labeler. Once I removed the page labeler numbering, my help
files turned out fine.

Thank you,

Adobe Acrobat 8

2007-09-24 Thread Yves Barbion
I still have the same problem from time to time, but I use Acrobat 6, so
it's not really an Acrobat 8 problem.

Sometimes, FrameMaker crashes when generating the PDF (using Save as
PDF). And, like Alan said, deleting the fntcache.dat and restarting
Windows resolves the problem:

   1. In Frame, Save as PDF: FM crashes.
   2. Restart Windows and try again: same result, FM crashes.
   3. Delete fntcache.dat and restart Windows.
   4. FM: Save as PDF. Everything's fine now.

See the Help topic, "Assigning master pages to body pages containing

unresolved xref and making master pages stick

2007-09-24 Thread Leah Smaller
Good morning all,

1. I get an unresolved x-ref message for 1 file when opening the 35 files in
the book. I can't find this unresolved xref and I have tested every xref in the
chapter. Unresolved xref error does not appear in the Error log when updating
the book. When generating chm files in WWPro for FM the same error message
appears. What gives? Why can't I find this elusive xref?

2. I have applied a left and right, 2 column master page to two consecutive
pages in the middle of a document. (thank you Richard Coombs for all your help
in making it look right). I want only these 2 pages (with special information)
to use these master pages. However, if the pagination changes the 2 col layout
gets applied to the wrong page. How do I attach the 2 col layout to only the
designated pages?

Yes. I find that I need to regularly (every few days) delete
c:\WINDOWS\system32\FNTCACHE.DAT and restart to avoid FrameMaker crashes
and text drop-outs when generating PDF. (Windows XP, FM7.2 and 8,
Acrobat 8 and Acrobat 3D).

Re: unresolved xref and making master pages stick

2007-09-24 Thread Stuart Rogers

Leah Smaller wrote:

Good morning all,

1. I get an unresolved x-ref message for 1 file when opening the 35
files in the book. I can't find this unresolved xref and I have
tested every xref in the chapter. Unresolved xref error does not
appear in the Error log when updating the book. When generating chm
files in WWPro for FM the same error message appears. What gives? Why
can't I find this elusive xref?

Have you followed all the steps in the Help topic, "Resolving
cross-references"? With what result?

2. I have applied a left and right, 2 column master page to two
consecutive pages in the middle of a document. (thank you Richard
Coombs for all your help in making it look right). I want only these
2 pages (with special information) to use these master pages.
However, if the pagination changes the 2 col layout gets applied to
the wrong page. How do I attach the 2 col layout to only the
designated pages?

See the Help topic, "Assigning master pages to body pages containing
paragraph tags". (...Assuming you have a recent version of FM.)

Adobe Acrobat 8 and Frame 7.0

2007-09-24 Thread nancy carpenter

I noticed this response on the digest. I use Frame 7.0 and upgrading it
will not happen any time soon. I'd like to upgrade Acrobat to version 8.
Will I have similar problems using Acrobat 8 with Frame 7.0?
