Resetting the date is not a viable solution due to versioning issues.

 

As others have suggested, a free upgrade to FM11 would seem to be an
appropriate response from Adobe.

 

In the short term this is costing me serious money!  As a freelance
author, I had hoped to do a solid day's work yesterday, free from the
usual interruptions as everyone else was on holiday.  Instead, I spent  a
frustrating day trying various suggested solutions that all failed to
work.  I finally downloaded a trial version of FM11 over my none-too-fast
internet link.

 

I AM NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER !

a suite or standalone. I have a longtime client and I access a virtual PC
on their network and on this virtual PC FM 10 is installed as a
standalone product. I just logged into the virtual PC and attempted to
open FM 10 and get the same lousy message. Installing FM 11 as a
workaround is not an option as this is not my PC, but my client's. I
wouldn't dare install any other SW w/out their permission first.

even though I have standalone Framemaker. It was not installed as part of
an application suite.  When I attempt to Deactivate, and then Deactivate
Permanently, I receive the message Please connect to the internet to
deactivate and I AM connected to the internet. I am unable to deactivate
my account at all, so I am unable to attempt Solution #2.  Also, I did
stop and then restart the FlexNet Licensing Services and that did not
work either. Like others on this, I am unable to use Framemaker 10.

Further to the last message from me - I tried the support chat system
three times yesterday and three time my call was dropped without
resolution and with no attempt by the support person to get back to me.

   I appreciate the attempts at help but resetting the clock on
your computer, particularly if you are tied into a critical network, is one
the absolutely stupidest things to do. The unintended consequences are,
literally, indefinable.

I am the product manager of FrameMaker. Thanks for bringing this issue to our 
attention. We have already isolated the cause of this issue and are now working 
aggressively to provide a solution to our users. That being said, we do realize 
that many of you are blocked on your daily work due to this issue. We sincerely 
apologize for this and completely understand the difficult situation you are 
in. 

While we work on a solution, we want you to be able to continue doing your work

Is there a solution yet?
As Shlomo, I tried your suggested solution 1 and 2 without success. Again, just 
like Shlomo, I don't want to try solution 3.
Just as a note: simply setting the date back to 2012 makes the license issue 
disappear. But this is something I can do as I have admin rights on my PC. What 
can I do for all my colleagues that are getting back from holidays today, need 
Framemaker 10 and don't have admin rights??

Maybe the Mayans miscalculated the end of the world by 10 days? ;-)
My FM 10 also tells me that my license has expired!

I will try to postpone the end of the world by using the workarounds. :-)

The zip file extending my license worked. However, when you have bought
something you tend to think that you own it, so an expiry date on a fully
paid software product should not be there at all.

I've got the same problem, but there is a better and quicker solution than 
manupilating data.
The problem is known by Adobe and they working on it.
It has something to do with the CS5 license.

This is the kind of thing that really hurts Adobes image in the minds of users 
who purchase licenses with the simple idea that they will be able to use the 
software when they need it.I have earlier complained about the fact that 
installing CS6 caused the disabling of my TCS3 Acrobat X thirty days after 
installing CS6. Somebody at Adobe needs to get the installation team for the CS 
suites to respect other installations, especially if those licenses are for 
other Adobe products. Craig

A quick update on my last post. For those of you, who can't or don't want to 
change their system date, there is a new workaround that I have included in my 
earlier post. We have uploaded a utility which will do the suitable 
modification to a configuration file, to make FM10 launch successfully. You can

Zipfile Did NOT work on 64-bit, Windows 7, FM10. Error message is Could not
update FrameMaker 10 license: attempt to write a readonly Database. Which
database file is it so I can change properties?

Ditto to what Stuart said. I will say, however, that on my Dell laptop, I
held my breath as it did not appear to run as fast or as easily as on my HP
desktop. Don't ask me why - but the difference was noticeable.

Fix for FrameMaker launch failure

I clicked on FrameMaker to open it and got an error message stating, License 
expired. I immediately googled that error since I know my license is 
permanent. Adobe has already posted the fix for it. Click on the link, download 
the fix, and install as directed.

I ran the first utility provided earlier. My version of FM is 10.0.2, and I
see on your second solution that the utilities are for 10.0 and 10.0.1.
Should I run this second utility or not (specifically the version for

Configuration control for imported Graphics

Can anyone offer suggestions for tight configuration control over graphics
that are imported into framemaker documents? We're actually embedding
images into the documents because we are unable to link by reference due to
Sharepoint limitations. Right now we're manually checking for current
graphics using file dates, but it's a burdensome extra step that sometimes
gets overlooked when publishing books on a tight deadline, which sometimes
results in older graphics in the compiled books.

The graphics are all stored in individual folders on the server for
graphics control issues, rather than in one folder for all graphics.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I get this same error with both "fixes":My version is showing as 10.0.2…I ran the earlier fix and that did work. These new files do not. If you're working in structured docs, then attributes could let you see more 
details of the copied graphics. If not, I imagine you'll need a scripted 
solution to dig into the graphics' object properties.

In response to an offlist question:

I have no idea what version of FM that I had on my desktop and laptop before
I ran the first fix provided this morning. After running this first fix, the
version for both installations is now set to 10.0.2.

For my client's virtual PC, I ran the first fix simply so I could open FM
and determine the version. After the first fix, it was 10.0.1 so I ran the
version of the second fix (the one for FM 1.0.1) for this virtual PC. During
the running of the second fix, flyover text opens that states something
about installing 10.0.3 of FM (note the .3); however, after running this
second fix, the version of FM on the laptop now is set to 10.0.2 - So, it's
not .3 and somehow, the first fix got me to .2 even though it took two fixes
to get my client's PC to that.

I give and I don't want to take the chance of screwing something up by
running a not needed second fix - as per Brad Anderson's email just a few
moments ago.

It's like Russian roulette with FM fixes right about now.

As Shlomo, I tried your suggested solution 1 and 2 without success. Again,
just like Shlomo, I don't want to try solution 3.
Just as a note: simply setting the date back to 2012 makes the license issue
disappear. But this is something I can do as I have admin rights on my PC.
What can I do for all my colleagues that are getting back from holidays
today, need Framemaker 10 and don't have admin rights??

The original fix works for me.  I waited until later today and tried this 
latest fix first.  I get this same error with both fixes:

My version is showing as 10.0.2...

I ran the earlier fix and that did work.  These new files do not.  I tried 
running the new ones first.

Embedding images is asking for trouble.

Why not dump Sharepoint in favor of a real version control system?

I was to enthusiastic about Adobe's fix:

- I have installed the latest FM-10 which is is 10.0.2.419 
- This requested the patch offered for TCS 3.0. The other one quits right after 
the start.
- But the patch for TCS 3.0 just works a while to provide an error message:
Adobe FrameMaker 10.0.3 Update
Done with Errors. Error Code: U44M2P6

As far as I am aware, printing from Frame directly to a printer will never 
produce good copy as Frame is not intended to be used that way (I think of it 
as almost WYSIWYG or blurry WYSIWYG).

Once you create the PDF from the Frame doc, simply print the PDF to obtain hard 
copies.

Greetings, and happy new year to everyone!

I'm using FM 8 on Win 7 x64. I have a PDF-actually, a plain old IRS form 
downloaded from the IRS site. I create a new FM document, clear out all the 
text frames on both the body and master page, then import the PDF onto the 
master page. My intent is to complete the form but with some custom 
modifications that FrameMaker happens to make quite easily (on the body page).

It all works just fine ... except for this: When I print this form from some 
PDF reader-any PDF reader that I've tried-it looks great. When I use FrameMaker 
to print the same form, not so great. Both on screen and on paper, the text is 
all darkened, the edges of the letters no longer smooth and crisp. It's not 
unusable, but it certainly does not appear as it should.

If anyone has an idea as to what may be happening here, I'd appreciate your 
help. I have to prepare a number of these forms in various special ways.

Unless you have a printer with a true Adobe PostScript interpreter,
and the appropriate driver for that interpreter is installed and
selected, FrameMaker's printing output is unreliable.

Like Alison, I always save to PDF and then print that to whatever.

Well, I am glad to see it is an issue for everyone ;-)

I am going try the fix today. Winding the clock back yesterday worked ok
for me to do what I need to so will see what happens with the fix. I have
been reading all your posts, most informative.

Can't remember who was trying to use the Adobe chat service - but don't !
They will just tell you it is a technical problem and point you to the web
site links anyway.

I have installed the patch, and it allows me to open FrameMaker 10.  Thank you.


Interesting aside:

- When I check Control Panel  Programs and Features, it still shows Adobe 
FrameMaker 10.0.1.

- When I check from FrameMaker's Help  About screen, it shows  Version: 
10.0.2.419

I was expecting to see 10.0.3 somewhere.

You can apply this patch ,it is a superset . It is available at  
http://helpx.adobe.com/framemaker/kb/cant-launch-framemaker-10.html  .

1. Go to Add and Remove Programs.

2. Look for  Name and Version fields for FrameMaker 10 entry.

3. If the name says Adobe FrameMaker 10 and Version says 10.0.0.388 or 
10.0.1.402 or 10.0.2.419pls. download TCS3Update.zip file,  unzip it and 
run the executable.

4. Otherwise, if the name says Adobe FrameMaker 10.0.1 and version says 
10.0.1.408 or 10.0.2.419 download TCS3_5Update.zip, unzip it and run the 
executable.

As Shlomo, I tried your suggested solution 1 and 2 without success. Again,
just like Shlomo, I don't want to try solution 3.
Just as a note: simply setting the date back to 2012 makes the license issue
disappear. But this is something I can do as I have admin rights on my PC.
What can I do for all my colleagues that are getting back from holidays
today, need Framemaker 10 and don't have admin rights??

Framemaker License expired as part of TCS 3

I am using FrameMaker 10 as part of TCS 3. This morning when I tried to
open FM, I got the message "Licensing for this product has expired".
Everything else in the suite opens ok. I didn't think the license for FM
would expire once you have bought it? Has anyone else had this issue?

FrameMaker 10 licensing "fix"...

Hi Scott

I've just tested your batch file and it also works for me. After I "press
any key to continue", I get a message saying "The system cannot accept the
date entered", but I just have to press enter again to get FrameMaker 10 up
and running.

deed for 2013! ;-)

I am the product manager of FrameMaker. Thanks for bringing this issue to our 
attention. We have already isolated the cause of this issue and are now working 
aggressively to provide a solution to our users. That being said, we do realize 
that many of you are blocked on your daily work due to this issue. We sincerely 
apologize for this and completely understand the difficult situation you are 
in. 

While we work on a solution, we want you to be able to continue doing your work 
and be productive. For this, I have posted more details and a workaround to

 This workaround will enable you to continue working with FM10 in the interim.

First the best wishes for you all.

I've got the same problem, but there is a better and quicker solution than 
manupilating data.
The problem is known by Adobe and they working on it.
It has something to do with the CS5 license.

This is the kind of thing that really hurts Adobes image in the minds of users 
who purchase licenses with the simple idea that they will be able to use the 
software when they need it.I have earlier complained about the fact that 
installing CS6 caused the disabling of my TCS3 Acrobat X thirty days after 
installing CS6. Somebody at Adobe needs to get the installation team for the CS 
suites to respect other installations, especially if those licenses are for 
other Adobe products. Craig

FrameMaker 10 does not start ("licensing expired")

Hello Framers,

A quick update on my last post. For those of you, who can't or don't want to 
change their system date, there is a new workaround that I have included in my 
earlier post. We have uploaded a utility which will do the suitable 
modification to a configuration file, to make FM10 launch successfully. You can 
download the utility and instructions on how to run it, from the original blog

As Shlomo, I tried your suggested solution 1 and 2 without success. Again, just 
like Shlomo, I don't want to try solution 3.
Just as a note: simply setting the date back to 2012 makes the license issue 
disappear. But this is something I can do as I have admin rights on my PC. What 
can I do for all my colleagues that are getting back from holidays today, need 
Framemaker 10 and don't have admin rights??

Can you please try the steps suggested here -

Also, please go to start - run - launch - services.msc and look for 'Flexnet 
Licensing Service' and restart/start the service.

Please share me your findings.

Zipfile Did NOT work on 64-bit, Windows 7, FM10. Error message is "Could not
update FrameMaker 10 license: attempt to write a readonly Database". Which
database file is it so I can change properties?

Ditto to what Stuart said. I will say, however, that on my Dell laptop, I
held my breath as it did not appear to run as fast or as easily as on my HP
desktop. Don't ask me why - but the difference was noticeable.

Adobe FrameMaker 10 does not start - Workaround

Hey, guys!

For those of you without admin rights (like me), we found a temporary work 
around here. Double click the time and date that is normally in the bottom 
right of your screen. Change the date to anytime in 2012. Open Frame. From here 
you can either correct the date to today's correct date or leave as is. 
Changing it to correct means you will have to repeat the process to reopen 
Frame. Works for now (and while I wait for our Tech team to actually make any 
fix even though I sent them the info).

Fix for FrameMaker launch failure

I clicked on FrameMaker to open it and got an error message stating, "License 
expired." I immediately googled that error since I know my license is 
permanent. Adobe has already posted the fix for it. Click on the link, download 
the fix, and install as directed.

I ran the first utility provided earlier. My version of FM is 10.0.2, and I
see on your second solution that the utilities are for 10.0 and 10.0.1.
Should I run this second utility or not (specifically the version for
10.0.1)?

Configuration control for imported Graphics

Can anyone offer suggestions for tight configuration control over graphics
that are imported into framemaker documents? We're actually embedding
images into the documents because we are unable to link by reference due to
Sharepoint limitations. Right now we're manually checking for current
graphics using file dates, but it's a burdensome extra step that sometimes
gets overlooked when publishing books on a tight deadline, which sometimes
results in older graphics in the compiled books.

The graphics are all stored in individual folders on the server for
graphics control issues, rather than in one folder for all graphics.

Any ideas or suggestions?

expired." I immediately googled that error since I know my license is

Configuration control for imported Graphics

If you're working in structured docs, then attributes could let you see more 
details of the copied graphics. If not, I imagine you'll need a scripted 
solution to dig into the graphics' object properties.

Just as a note: simply setting the date back to 2012 makes the license issue 
disappear. But this is something I can do as I have admin rights on my PC.
What can I do for all my colleagues that are getting back from holidays today, 
need Framemaker 10 and don't have admin rights??

FrameMaker 10 does not start ("licensing expired")

In response to an offlist question:

I have no idea what version of FM that I had on my desktop and laptop before
I ran the first fix provided this morning. After running this first fix, the
version for both installations is now set to 10.0.2.

For my client's virtual PC, I ran the first fix simply so I could open FM
and determine the version. After the first fix, it was 10.0.1 so I ran the
version of the second fix (the one for FM 1.0.1) for this virtual PC. During
the running of the second fix, flyover text opens that states something
about installing 10.0.3 of FM (note the .3); however, after running this
second fix, the version of FM on the laptop now is set to 10.0.2 - So, it's
not .3 and somehow, the first fix got me to .2 even though it took two fixes
to get my client's PC to that.

I give and I don't want to take the chance of screwing something up by
running a not needed second fix - as per Brad Anderson's email just a few
moments ago.

It's like Russian roulette with FM fixes right about now.

Why not dump Sharepoint in favor of a real version control system?

I was to enthusiastic about Adobe's fix:

- I have installed the latest FM-10 which is is 10.0.2.419 
- This requested the patch offered for TCS 3.0. The other one quits right after 
the start.
- But the patch for TCS 3.0 just works a while to provide an error message:

Imported PDF looks poor

As far as I am aware, printing from Frame directly to a printer will never 
produce good copy as Frame is not intended to be used that way (I think of it 
as "almost WYSIWYG" or "blurry WYSIWYG").

Once you create the PDF from the Frame doc, simply print the PDF to obtain hard 
copies.

I'm using FM 8 on Win 7 x64. I have a PDF-actually, a plain old IRS form 
downloaded from the IRS site. I create a new FM document, clear out all the 
text frames on both the body and master page, then import the PDF onto the 
master page. My intent is to complete the form but with some custom 
modifications that FrameMaker happens to make quite easily (on the body page).

It all works just fine ... except for this: When I print this form from some 
PDF reader-any PDF reader that I've tried-it looks great. When I use FrameMaker 
to print the same form, not so great. Both on screen and on paper, the text is 
all darkened, the edges of the letters no longer smooth and crisp. It's not 
unusable, but it certainly does not appear as it should.

If anyone has an idea as to what may be happening here, I'd appreciate your 
help. I have to prepare a number of these forms in various special ways.
