Hi all,

From time to time, people have mentioned problems with RSI due to mouse
use. I just came across this device and thought I'd pass it along. I
have no other info on it, so can't offer a review.

Looks interesting, but what on earth is 'wireless cursor experience'? ;-)

If anyone tries one of these, I'd be very interested to know how they get on

Re: mouse alternative

2014-11-11 Thread Mike Wickham
Even better, get a trackball. You rest your hand in place and only move
your thumb (plus occasionally click with a finger). Plus, you never run
into that PITA issue where your mouse goes off the edge of the mouse
pad, but you need to scroll further, so you have to lift the mouse, pull
it back toward you, and set it down to continue scrolling-- sometimes
multiple times. With a trackball, you only lift your thumb. (Or set the
scroll rate to encompass the whole screen in one thumb swipe.) I've been
using a trackball for years and would never go back to a mouse. Here are
a couple from Logitech. I use an older model similar to the M570:

Updating them shouldn’t be an issue – always maintain a backup of the FM9
original files in case something goes south. Make sure you’ve updated FM12
before upgrading the FM9 files. For learning, I always recommend Matt
Sullivan’s FM book Unstructured FM11 as the FM bible.

Thanks for the quick response Jeff,

These Frame 9 files were created by a vendor years ago, and now we want to
update them with Frame 12. The primary concern I have is learning how to use
12…the last time I used Frame was some ten years ago and just doing some of the
basic Frame formatting processes has escaped me. So basically, it’s my learning
curve that is of concern. Do you have any recommendations on resources on
learning 12? Perhaps there’s a website or two you could recommend.

Short of Sullivan’s book, any chance there’s a frame user hotline to call for
basic questions? I’ve reached out to the Adobe support group, based in India, a

I have been thinking of switching, but I need to find something relatively

At present, I use a small Microsoft Bluetooth mouse - wireless and fits well in

But, would like to try a trackpad - small for travel would be nice.

I've been using Kensington Expert Mouse trackballs for years. The
current model is optical. Very smooth, rarely needs cleaning. Comes
with an optional wrist support, which I use, my one complaint about
the product is that that tends to come loose. I have not found smaller
trackballs as easy to use.

I use them with Kinesis Freestyle 2 keyboards with the VIP3 lifter
attachment. I place the two parts of the keyboard about 6.5 apart.

http://www.ergonomicssimplified.com/products/images/keyboards/kinesis_freestyle_vip1.jpg

Using a laptop keyboard for any amount of time seems like a good way
to injure yourself. I can fit a Freestyle and Expert Mouse in my not
very large laptop backpack with room to spare.

Thanks! My son has an Apple Trackpad on his iMac, so I'll borrow it and give it

Re: mouse alternative

2014-11-11 Thread Mike Wickham
I use my Wacom tablet for drawing, but it also came with a mouse that
let's you use the tablet as a trackpad. Perhaps they still have models
like that. It was much better than a mouse, but not as nice as a
trackball, in my opinion.

Speaking of keyboards, I won't part with my Unicomp buckling spring
keyboard. They are the famous, original IBM keyboards that are heavy
duty, have a great tactile feel with a nice audible click, and the
keycaps are double-injected. So the letters can never wear off them.
They should last a lifetime. Find them here in several configurations:

Those are all the same bad configuration as far as ergonomics.

The Lexmark M15 was fully split with buckling-spring switches.
