inkscape core dumps at start
Hi, I tried to upgrade inkscape to version 0,92.3 first via ports and then via a package. Both results in a core dump after inkscape says it encountered an internal error. sunclock time zones
Hi, sunclock puts Jawa (Indonesia) into the same time zone as Malaysia. Fact is that Jawa is in the same time zone as Thailand. Bali (Indonesia) is in the same time zone as Malaysia. Hi, it took a bit longer before I could test this on the very same machine where I found the problem. I updated first FreeBSD and then the ports. Yes, the problem is gone. I will go off-line now with this machine again and do some work there. It should not be that much but it will be with the same set of programs. So, a real-life test. If you hear nothing from me anymore, the problem is gone. I just noticed your e-mail address. Is this still compatible with the new CoC? On a machine with only 4GB or RAM, it happens around 10 windows with 10 documents. The documents are small. mousepad memory leak
Hi, when I open more than nine or ten mousepads in parallel, I can still use one or two of the open windows but the other mousepad windows start to allocate memory until it is exhausted. I am using FreeBSD 10.4 with mousepad 0.4.0 running under blackbox. It is easy to reproduce by opening one mousepad window with one document contained in one. I am using mousepad on an older machine with only 4GB of RAM. On a machine with more RAM, top looks like this after 12 mousepads have been opened: Swap: 16G Total, 1666M Used, 14G Free, 10% Inuse, 12K In PID JID USERNAMETHR PRI NICE SIZERES STATE C TIMEWCPU COMMAND 25003 0 erich 5 200 645M 425M kqread 2 5:53 100.39% mousepad 11076 0 erich 3 220 46132K 3916K select 1 2:57 49.17% dconf-service It is only one mousepad process eating up all the memory. It seems to me random which of the mousepad processes can be used but this one works normal while other do not react to any event. It stays then like this until mousepad took all the swap space and RAM. It is not possible to kill mousepad from blackbox but it is possible to kill mousepad from top. I know, it is a minor issue. Hi, I have a problem with downloading this file: http://distcache.FreeBSD.org/ports-distfiles/TeX/texlive-20140525-texmf.tar.xz It is no problem at all to download the file in one go. As the size of the file is pretty large, it is difficult for me to do so. After a download is interrupted, the download restarts at the beginning. I observed the proper restarting behaviour on other ports. What could I do to find out why the restarting on this one file does not work? Erich It is only almost the same. py27-setuptools27 conflicts with py27-setuptools (take care of the '27' after setuptools). There had been a slight change in the near past. you mean, a new set of glasses are highly recommented? Yes, I agree with you. For me, it helped to change the origin and update again. I did not got through the full thread to see if you found a solution.
Allow me to tell you how I generally update multiple machines no matter
in what state they are in. If they are all on the same source version,
I compile on one machine the new kernel for the target machine. I will
install it them either via NFS on other machines or via bootable media
on which I copy the newly compiled source tree and the new binaries.
When the other machine is up, I go through the normal installation
procedure for kernel and world. Be careful with mergemaster and do not
overwrite some configuration files.
It might seems awkward but I did not run into any problems since I
moved to this procedure.
You might get first a generic kernel onto an external media and upgrade
to generic if you want before compiling the 'real thing' on the target
machine.

Yeah, you must have real good feet if you want to stay with Linux. It is sad to see how much effort they have to put into their systems just to follow the latest trends. If you would like to have a newer version of a port, you would have to update the ports tree first. I would suggest that you take ftp to download the current ports tree. It contains then a current svn. You would not need svn after this as the ports are downloaded by using fetch. Of course, for further updates, I would recommend moving to svn. In a second step I tried to rebuild graphics/rawtherapee with the entry in /etc/libmap.conf active. Rawtherapee is a very sensitive program from my point of view. It works after one update and it crashes after the next. It might also be just random. Should I expected some problems becaue everything is install with portmaster? I use portupgrade and make whenever I want. I did not notice any problems as portupgrade just looks at the installed ports and then tries them to update via ports or packages. You have to tell portupgrade what to use. The main advantage for me is that it continues after errors and prints a summary at the end. You can then try to fix the problem or wait for a new ports tree in which the problem might be fixed. Important for me is that portupgrade never left me with an unusable system. Worst case is that nothing gets upgraded. The majority of us on this list do not care about individual broken ports and getting a sent a log is noise at best. The sender of an e-mail does not need the majority but a single individual with the proper hint. Currently the port installs the offensive fortunes into
/usr/local/share/ofortune, requiring every user to add that directory
to their FORTUNE_PATH (hence the pkg-message). I tried adding an
OPTION that would install it into the base /usr/share/games/fortune,
but that again breaks stuff, see point 6.

It appears that for some reason conditionals don't work in the
Makefile. For your reference, I have added the Makefile below, with
the parts commented out that I think should work but don't. In both
cases I get Malformed conditional errors. Any thoughts?
I use a very different style in my makefiles and do not see the errors
too.

problem compiling RawTherapee

What I think is happening is that portupgrade is building and running
shell scripts in /tmp. It's running them with (in ruby):

able to tell the original writer what to insert to get the command to
be executed to be printed. Then we will see what it is.

The correct mode for /tmp is probably 1777 anyway. That allows anyone to create files there, but only they can manipulate them. See sticky(7). The implication of the error messages from portupgrade is that /tmp is in your PATH, which is pretty unusual. Check your .profile, login, .cshrc etc. and remove /tmp from any path settings. This is indeed a security risk! Current (semi-official) statements say that project is going to abandon practice of non-project managed mirrors and will do everything on it's own. As for now my mirror serves full CVS[up] repo from SSD, and have full FTP archive avaliable, which is synced every hour. You may have read the situation with Australian SVN mirror - when project officials officially prohibited guys, who set it up to use *.freebsd.org name for that. this all sounds like a inside job to kill FreeBSD. I just wrote the other message saying that it seems to me that the huge user base outside the USA is ignored. What will happen to the project when all non-US servers cannot be used anymore? After getting the errors mentioned here, I used to run 'make deinstall' in the affected port. This solved the problem. I wonder now what the difference between pkg_delete and make deinstall is. As I mentioned before, I am getting these errors randomly since around 2007. I obviously never used make deinstall then. I will go back now to the FreeBSD ports installation. It is difficult to know how to respond to these anecdotes -- we don't know how many and what kind of problems you encountered, what you did I know. It was always something simple. Like building a port by hand which was needed by X. when you performed these builds, and how you went about reporting the problems -- all of which can make a big difference in the outcome. I will only say that, apart from occasional disruptions, it is usually possible now to build commonly-used ports with default options on amd64 and i386 in controlled builds without incident. And the numbers from the FreeBSD package-building cluster support this: I know this. As I said, it was always something very simple. With regard to your request for a versioned Ports trees -- well, we have had that for about 18 years, since the Ports tree is kept under version control in CVS, and you are free to check out snapshots using anonymous CVS or CVSup -- all you have to do is specify a tag or date I would not know for what tag I would have to go to solve a specific Problem. spec, as described in several places -- csup(1), cvs(1), the FreeBSD Handbook, etc. You can even get per-delta granularity via ctm(1), and I'd guess that there is a way to do it using rsync, too. Back in the 4.X days you could choose to install XFree86 and KDE, Gnome, etc... But, that was a waste of valuable disk space in the long run. How big is X and how big is a DVD? Why is it possible for others to pack it onto a DVD? I did not even notice that X is not part of the installation media any more as I always try to install the ports from the current ports tree. Virtually none of them are interested in developing and maintaining drivers for what they consider a niche environment. But these freezes are considered to be a necessary evil, to be removed as soon as possible, and not something that should be in place from release to release. The current version of the Ports tree is supposed to be the leading edge of (downstream) development. You misunderstand me. I do not want a freeze of the ports tree, I only recommend, to either delay an update of a base port to the next freeze or put a short freeze around during which only ports are updated which got screwed by the change. If I want a freeze to 'my' ports tree, I keep the one from the last release. Hi, I do not know if this will help here. I have had in the past a very different problem which seems unsolvable. I did the same as you using portupgrade to bring my system to the current status. It broke some things. By change, I got the problem solve by manually compiling some ports and reinstalling them. Check what ports are needed by your program. Start at the base reinstalling them manually. I did this just by chance and found my system working afterwards. Yes, I know, it is a lot of work if you cannot do it on the side. Xorg 7.4, hald dbus when upgrading via packages
Hi, with reference to this http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=694 I have a machine which got upgraded since the FreeBSD 6.1 days to 6.4 via the ports and never got XOrg 7.4 running because i never got hald and dbus properly installed. Just by chance, I saw that both hald and dbus are not put into place. After compiling the respective ports by hand, deinstalling the packages and reinstalling the ports, hald and dbus appeared to be in the proper place and working. Since then, I have Xorg 7.4 working with hal support.
