aah ok so this thing is not worth the download then.
I just got the file but I'll delete it now.

Hello Alex.

I've actually been in contact with the developer of that Mod in the past,
- there's a topic about it somewhere on audiogames.net with a link to a
utube vid of someone playing it (though not doing too well).

I wasn't able to try it myself being totally without a copy of halflife 2,
but I do know someone visually impared who does. he said it was a fun play,
but several factors also made it more complex, such as the fact that
instead of walls to the playing area, you can just endlessly walk in one
direction.

Also, while it's a great idea and advert for audio games, the problem was
the developer had to specifically create and place all of the sound objects
and sources in the Mod, for the mod.

Many objects in the actual halflife 2 game do not unfortunately have
properties which could be modified to have them create sound, or have the
player have tools such as a sonar.

All navigation in the Mod is done by specifically placed sound objects,
and according to my friend who tried the game (who also has played shades of
doom), the spacing and audio navigation wasn't half as smooth as in shades.

so, a fun game, and a great way to get people interested in audio games, but
sadly not an accessible halflife 2, - though the developer did say he
was interested in perhaps making more audio games, maybe something
actually programmed by himself, so it's not all doom and gloom.

Hi Terrence,

since you have already tried the DelUserLex.exe file.
Here is another fix that I was told about. Not sure if it is actually just
doing the same thing or not.

Go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech
Then, press enter on Sapisvr.exe. It won't say anything, but it should
correct the control panel entries for Sapi.

Another thing that you can do is to use the Windows XP restore feature to
restore your computer back to a date when the voices were working.

And then there is to use your Windows XP cd to repair the entire sapi5 text to
speech engine.

And Thomas gave us this link

you can download

Hi Tarence,
Ok, let us try this tact. What Sapi voices do you currently have
installed. It is very important to know if you have installed and
uninstalled any third-party Sapi voices such as those from Scansoft,
Cepstral, ESpeak, etc. I know of a case in point where a gamer installed
some Cepstral voices to try them with Montezuma's Revenge, removed them
and after that his Sapi voices completely stopped working. Apparently
Microsoft's Speech API is very easy to break and if you do the wrong
thing

say goodbye to it.

Re: [Audyssey] Lonewolf targeting.

2008-11-24 Thread dark
H, I'll have to try that, usually I find I have to move for the first
cargo ship and am then in the complete wrong place for the destroyer.

Btw Tom, as reguards a user created mission, I seem to remember that it was
possible to add text messages which would be displayed mid mission, or at
the triggering of certain events, for example the sinking of one ship
or your sub getting to a particular area.

this is all I meant by adding hints, - eg, (as you've just done),
suggesting possibly good angles for the various ships before you go and
tackle them.

Subject: [Audyssey] Lonewolf targeting.

Hi Dark,
Well, keep in mind when firing you want to hit the enemy ship in the port
or starboard side. Obviously, that offers a lot larger target than trying
to go for a bow or stern shot. Though, bow and stern shots are possible
once you get skilled at the game.
Let us take mission 1 as an example. Don't move since the first cargo ship
is going to litterally pass your bow in a minute or so. Just open your
doors, when you view the cargo ship, press period follow by the number
one. When the tone of the target gets very high pitched press f6 and drop
one or two torpedoes into the sucker. Close the torpedo doors and wait for
the cargo ship to sink. A destroyer will pass, but if the cargo ship
hasn't sunk don't fire since it is still in your way. If you want to hit
both very quickly I usually turn 15 degrees to port, bearing 345, and fire
upon the first cargo ship so I can later change heading to 0 so I can kill
the destroyer. Try that and see if that helps.

Cheers.

Hi Dark,
Smile. Those destroyers are a bit tricky. Hint if you aren't skilled
enough to hit them at full speed then your best tactic is to go down to
say 60 feet, wait it out, and when they stop hunting you surface and blow
the suckers away.

dark wrote:
the mission 2 destroyer is fairly easy, but the ones guarding the

It wasn't their hunting of me that was a problem, it was the fact that I
just couldn't! targit the ones going at 30 nots.

What I ended up doing was diving, getting into exact firing position at
one of the aircraft carriers, rapidly surficing, unloading all my
missiles, then diving again!

It got the job done, but it was rather time consuming to say the least,
and I'd have much rather been able to down the destroyers!

Re: [Audyssey] Updated Lonewolf sound pack released.

2008-11-24 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the updated LW pack, but I have a few questions about it.
I noticed you have the files at 44k 16 bit stereo but the sounds seem to be
centered as if they were mono.

Some of these sounds would be better if they were full stereo .
Although the original sounds were mono, I found LW was easier to play when
the background music and water sound was pushed to each side making the
important targeting and ship sounds clearer in the center of the sound
field.

I also noticed you did not include the LW theme song which I have in stereo.

Hi Folks,
lwsng.wav is the Lone Wolf theme song
I edited it, and added a klaxon horn at the end when the DOS version of the
game was sold by PCS games.

You could buy 3 versions from AmazonMp3:
1. Rodgers: The Song of the High Seas from Victory at Sea TV series
Erich Kunzel Cincinnati Pops Orchestra
Victory At Sea, War And Remembrance And Other Favorites
5:13
2. The Song of the High Seas (1992 Remastered)
Robert Russell Bennett
Victory At Sea
5:04
3. The Song Of The High Seas
RCA Symphony Orchestra Charles Gerhardt
Reader's Digest Music: Victory At Sea (Highlights)
4:39

Of course you would have to convert it to .wav and rename it to lwsng.wav

Re: [Audyssey] Updated Lonewolf sound pack released.

2008-11-24 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Dark,
Unfortunately, I don't have a better sinking sound than the one was
provided with the game. I did however clean up the original sound so it
at least sounds a bit better. If I ever find a more realistic/better
sinking sound I'll update the sound pack. Let me know if you like the
updated pack.

dark wrote:

Lol Tom, I was thinking that sounded a bit small.

Seriously thanks for the pack I'll look forward to trying it. I hope
you've got a good sinking sound there, sinse that's one I'll
probably be hereing a lot, ;D.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] Lone wolf sound pack.

2008-11-24 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Willem,
Yeah, that is always a great tactic. Usually, I like to hit them when
the destroyers have to slow down to turn. Usually they will drop to 1 or
2 naughts and then they are easy prey for my torps.
Another tactic I love is move at full speed through say the mine field
and have the destroyer follow you into the mine field. Here I am busting
18 naughts through the mine field and the destroyers skipper is a real
wimp. He takes the mine field at 1 naught. All you have to do is aim
your torpedoes correctly back into the mine field and that destroyer is
toast. i love that trick.

Willem wrote:
Yeah, what I also do when there are two or three ships is shoot one
and while the other two are slowing down to hunt me, loose a few torps
at them too. Then I usually try and get away as quick as possible.

Re: [Audyssey] More SAPI Frustration

2008-11-24 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Jim,
By the way, the deluserlex.exe program and Sapisvr.exe perform two
completely different actions. Deluserlex.exe deletes any custom user
lexicon files that may have been added when more non-Microsoft TTS
engines are installed that may be causing speech issues. The Sapisvr.exe
program corrects the entries in the control pannel.
From what I gathered from Terrence's issue neither seams to be the
case. Honestly, I think the only way to fix this one is to reinstall the
entire Sapi 5 speech system from the product recovery cd by removing the
old copy of Sapi and then installing it cleanly Although,t hje Sapi 5
SDK should do a full install as well..

Smile.

Jim Kitchen wrote:

Hi Terrence,

since you have already tried the DelUserLex.exe file.
Here is another fix that I was told about. Not sure if it is actually
just doing the same thing or not.

Go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech
Then, press enter on Sapisvr.exe. It won't say anything, but it should
correct the control panel entries for Sapi.

Another thing that you can do is to use the Windows XP restore feature
to restore your computer back to a date when the voices were working.

And then there is to use your Windows XP cd to repair the entire sapi5
text to speech engine.

And Thomas gave us this link

you can download
(SpeechSDK51MSM.exe).
which contains all of the Microsoft Sapi voices available for Windows
XP from

Some of these sounds would be better if they were full stereo .
Although the original sounds were mono, I found LW was easier to play
when the background music and water sound was pushed to each side
making the important targeting and ship sounds clearer in the center
of the sound field.
I also noticed you did not include the LW theme song which I have in
stereo.

Hi Tom,
I just want to be clear, the sound files are all stereo but the sounds in
them are only in the center.
If the originals were in stereo with sounds coming from the far left to the
far right then it sounds like you converted them to mono then back to
stereo.
I also have several LW theme songs but I figure most people turn it down or
off while playing the game.

since you have already tried the DelUserLex.exe file.

Go to c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech

Another thing that you can do is to use the Windows XP restore feature to

And then there is to use your Windows XP cd to repair the entire sapi5

And Thomas gave us this link

Re: [Audyssey] ran across a very random mod for half life 2

2008-11-24 Thread Dakotah Rickard
It's a shame that halflife has limited development potential for audio
gaming purposes. I've played just a bit of it, thanks to a sited
friend, and the environment is rich in sound sources. There are so
many mainstream videogames out there that, with just a tweek here or
there, would be simply amazing as audio games.

One example of this is the abandonware game Take No Prisoners. I
actually played this game with a friend over intranet and was able to
aim well enough due to the environment that he'd pick out all the
visible targets and I'd stand behind him, make him duck, and take out
the farther off targets with a longrange gun. We actually had even
scores pretty much by the end of the game. There are aspects, like
piloting various vehicles, that would be difficult, but the whole
thing is very quake-like. I can send the directory containing the game
to anyone that might be interested. If you enable the endless ammo
cheat, you can even use a particular weapon as a sort of sonar. The
bolts of the crossbow make different sounds if they hit walls, doors,
people, or equipment. It's not perfect, but it works well enough to
keep one amused for some time at least.

Since I now know its crap it saves me time not getting the game.

That's ridiculous. When you already got the file, then why not at least try

aah ok so this thing is not worth the download then.
I just got the file but I'll delete it now.

Hello Alex.

I've actually been in contact with the developer of that Mod in the past,
 - there's a topic about it somewhere on audiogames.net with a link
to a utube vid of someone playing it (though not doing too well).

I wasn't able to try it myself being totally without a copy of halflife
2, but I do know someone visually impared who does. he said it was a fun
play, but several factors also made it more complex, such as the
fact that instead of walls to the playing area, you can just endlessly
 walk in one direction.

Also, while it's a great idea and advert for audio games, the problem was
the developer had to specifically create and place all of the sound
objects and sources in the Mod, for the mod.

Many objects in the actual halflife 2 game do not unfortunately have
properties which could be modified to have them create sound, or have
the player have tools such as a sonar.

All navigation in the Mod is done by specifically placed sound objects,

and according to my friend who tried the game (who also has played shades
of doom), the spacing and audio navigation wasn't half as smooth as in
 shades.

so, a fun game, and a great way to get people interested in audio games,
but sadly not an accessible halflife 2, - though the developer did
say he was interested in perhaps making more audio games, maybe
something actually programmed by himself, so it's not all doom and
 gloom.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Release Candidate for Top Speed 2.1 has arrived!

2008-11-24 Thread Dakotah Rickard
I have a couple of questions concerning the construction of cars and tracks.

Concerning cars:
Have any new items been added to the vhc file requirements such as a
variable for how much a car is slowed by turning? If it hasn't, this
variable might be a good addition...
Just as a note, the pickup, mini, and classic all sound quite similar.
The pickup and mini in particular seem to almost be the same sound
file. Is this my misperception or has anyone else noticed this.

Concerning Tracks:
Is the new surface sand? If so, what are the effects of this surface,
other than a sound effect?
Also, what is the new curve? In the ts2 utility pack, it is known as a
clock curve. What does this mean?

Re: [Audyssey] game sounds

2008-11-24 Thread Dakotah Rickard
That's ok. I noticed that a lot of the sfx from Treasure Hunt match
perfectly to Konami's Metal Gear Solid series.

I don't think it's so much of a big deal.

Munawar were the origional effects you got free or not, if so then this guy
