The original Street Fighter IV is playable on the pc. Street fighter
is a series of fighting games developed by a japanese company called
Capcom... fighting games are basically where you choose a character
and fight it out with another character. Street fighter is the
pioneer of those games... well, the first true pioneer anyway. There
were fighting games before this series, but they were usually just
one standalone game, rather than a long-running series with any
complex mechanics. Super Street Fighter IV is only playable on the
playstation 3 and the xbox360.

Re: [Audyssey] dice program for synbian devices?

2010-12-22 Thread NIcol
Hi Jacob
Thanks for the dice rolling program, but it doesn't give me a randomly
generated result, it always gives number 4 as result.
I unzipped the 2 files and placed them in my phone memory, in the route
folder . In file manager, I hit select on index.htm.
I hear the dice rolling sound.
I leave minimum at 1 and I press ok.
I leave maximum at 6 and I press ok.
It gives me number4 each time.
I did this 20 times and each time it gives me number4.
And I have to exit the window with key2 each time and then hit select on
index htm again which is nothing major.
If you have spare time on your hands, its much appreciated if you can have a
look into this.
Many thanks.

Ok, this is sort of something meant to test for a little while, but here's a

link to download an offline version of the dice rolling page off my website:
http://www.blindza.co.za/uploads/dice.zip

Just sent it to my N82, unzipped the 2 files to their own folder I created
in the phone's memory, and when I then went there in file manager and hit
select on index.htm, it did play the dice rolling sound, ask me for minimum
and maximum values (defaulting to 1 and 6), and then told me the randomly
generated result.

Not sure if this would work on all phones as such, but anyway - it's
basically just plain HTML, making use of javascript as such, FWIW, and if
you have these on your own phone, it will work offline/free as such.

Oh, yeah? Well, anything that secure, finger print scan, DNA
identification, etc included is just looking to be cracked by its very
nature. One thing Josh totally missed in his security/registration
scheme is how to protect the binary itself from being reverse
engineered. Unless a developer uses some sort of binary encryption
tool, which in of itself is not 100% full proof, a developer such as
myself can run program.exe through a disassembler and convert it to
assembly. Once I do that all I need do is find the
security/authentication code and disable it. Oops! I cracked it
again.

That's my entire point. Unless you go to extreme lengths to make your
program as secure as it can be someone somewhere will be able to
crack it no matter what you do. In the mean time the honest paying
customer will have to suffer with your security scheme which might be
complicated and/or be impractical to implement network wide etc. At
what point does a developer forget about the needs of his/her
customers and start thinking just about their bottom line?

Re: [Audyssey] bgt registration

2010-12-22 Thread Tom Randall
Hi everyone,

The closest thing you can get to no programming is to use an all out game
creation engine such as the GMA engine, Justin Daubenmire and I looked at
this a few years back to see if it would meet our needs. Even with
something like this though that basically does a lot of the work for you if
you want to do anything much you still have to do quite a bit of scripting
after you create the basic game levels and put all the objects where you
want them to be at least from my limited understanding of how the thing
works. If you are really wanting to make games, as has been said on here
many times the best thing is to start learning whatever scripting language
or programming language you decide to, for getting up and going with as
minimal an amount of work and study as possible I'd say the bgt engine is
probably your best bet. Just start with some real simple projects at first
so you don't get frustrated and give up, don't sit down and try to write
your own World of Warcraft on your first try.

I am sure that all this is true for mainstream developers as well I know for
a fact that they've got tools that do a lot of the drudge work for you, the
basic creating of game levels, putting characters and objects where you want
them, I am sure they don't hack this stuff out by hand the way we have to,
but I guarantee let's say with a game like super streetfighter iv there is
some serious programming or scripting that somebody has to do to make that
game happen.

Best of luck to you, I've considered getting into bgt myself but simply
don't have the time/energy to put into it right now.

Hi Josh,

Well, you are out of luck there. There is really no way to effectively
create games without using some type of programming language on some level.
In this case with BGT games are scripted which gives you the flexability of
a programming language while at the same time effectively reducing the skill
needed to get things like audio, input, speech, etc up and running quickly.
If you think you can create games totally without any programming involved
then you are sadly mistaken.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] bgt registration

2010-12-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Tom,

Yes, commercial game developers have special tools, an engine, that
takes some of the drudge work out of developing games, but there is
still plenty of programming that needs done. A Basic game engine
contains a high level wrapper for things like input, sound, music,
vidio, speech, etc and then offers it to the developer via a scripting
language like Lua or can be included directly into a C/C++ project.
Esentially this is exactly what BGT does. BGT is a fully qualified
game engine, and takes the drudge work out of handling DirectInput,
DirectSound, Sapi, the Win32 API, etc on your own. Instead Philip has
wrapped all those components into a common interface and has provided
a scripting language, Angelscript, to interface with the core engine.
Although, there is a lot of programming to be done to create a game
with BGT it saves you weeks, perhaps months, of time creating an
input, sound, and speech core. With BGT it is already there and ready
to go meaning you can start directly on the game without all the truly
drudge work of creating an engine in the first place. This is exactly
how commercial game engines work too.

Smile.

Hi Tom,

Yes, commercial game developers have special tools, an engine, that takes
some of the drudge work out of developing games, but there is still plenty
of programming that needs done. A Basic game engine contains a high level
wrapper for things like input, sound, music, vidio, speech, etc and then
offers it to the developer via a scripting language like Lua or can be
included directly into a C/C++ project.
Esentially this is exactly what BGT does. BGT is a fully qualified game
engine, and takes the drudge work out of handling DirectInput, DirectSound,
Sapi, the Win32 API, etc on your own. Instead Philip has wrapped all those
components into a common interface and has provided a scripting language,
Angelscript, to interface with the core engine.
Although, there is a lot of programming to be done to create a game with BGT
it saves you weeks, perhaps months, of time creating an input, sound, and
speech core. With BGT it is already there and ready to go meaning you can
start directly on the game without all the truly drudge work of creating an
engine in the first place. This is exactly how commercial game engines work
too.

Smile.

I am sure that all this is true for mainstream developers as well I

 Hi Josh,

Well, you are out of luck there. There is really no way to effectively
create games without using some type of programming language on some
level.
In this case with BGT games are scripted which gives you the
flexability of a programming language while at the same time
effectively reducing the skill needed to get things like audio, input,
speech, etc up and running quickly.
If you think you can create games totally without any programming
involved then you are sadly mistaken.

 Cheers!

It won't do anything on this end. lol. I'll have to guess and just
check it, or you'll have to tell me. And while he's over there, you
might get him to help you look at the ssfiv online menu. That way we
can get more than two people in a room and have us some good time. lol.

Re: [Audyssey] SSFIV online match

2010-12-22 Thread Clement Chou
Well, you have more SF games available if you get a console. A ps2,
for instance, can get you well into the market of fighting games.
However, the PC version is probably still attainable somewhere if you
look for it. Afterall, the game was only released last year. Your
computer might need high specs to run it though.

Hey Clement

Is the pc version still readily available? I'm interested and it's an
easier intro to the SF then getting a console to begin with at least.

Hi Shaun,

Actually, I have or had something in the works that might help in this
respect. For the last few months or so I've been working on a general
tech magazine tentatively called Beyond Sight that talks about
screen readers, OCR programs, accessible games, anything else VI tech
related. I've been busy with MOTA and my personal life so haven't
gotten it launched, but when I do actually launch this magazine it
will be far more interesting than Audyssey in my opinion because it

Hey

Yes indeed it's been awhile since I put an issue out. My appologies since
personal life has gotten in the way. Since mike the creater of it handed it
to me, I therefor hold it and while a podcast update might be good there's
still those who are on the mag only list.
I'll mention this briefly and publically divorce isn't an easy time to go
through. Yes I have let you all down in not publishing an earlier issue.
For any who have travelled this road getting up the gumption takes alot and
it's not easy by any means. The last month my Mother has been in the
hospital with various troubles.
I'm not trying to excuse myself as editor but to explain why. I'll be
glad to see 2010 go away. It's not the best of years for me.
I know the devs might want to slap me silly but January will be issue #55.
I still want to send out the mag, the next issue has acres to cover and
might be better in sendspace. I've kept the news from everyone, including
the iphone stuff.I can only ask for some understanding from all of you in
the community.

All the best
Ron

Hi Shaun,

Actually, I have or had something in the works that might help in this
respect. For the last few months or so I've been working on a general
tech magazine tentatively called Beyond Sight that talks about
screen readers, OCR programs, accessible games, anything else VI tech
related. I've been busy with MOTA and my personal life so haven't
gotten it launched, but when I do actually launch this magazine it
will be far more interesting than Audyssey in my opinion because it
gathers tech news from a variety of sources and compiles a list of the
hottest new software for the VI comunity. Since I'm interested in more
than just Windows software I intend to cover Mac, Linux, Windows,
IPhones, etc equally. However, like Audyssey the comunity will be able

Well, you have more SF games available if you get a console. A ps2,
for instance, can get you well into the market of fighting games.
However, the PC version is probably still attainable somewhere if you
look for it. Afterall, the game was only released last year. Your
computer might need high specs to run it though.

This is true. And I'm sure you can find the pc version somewhere...
even if buying doesn't turn up any results. Though if you're going to
do that, I would recommend getting a gamepad first as playing any
kind of fighting game on the keyboard is a royal pain to say the least.

[Audyssey] re bgt registration

Hi

Ok. The computers will have an extra processor or bit of software that
will scan the binary for tampering. The computer records the date and
time the original binary was downloaded. If it detects tampering the
computer releases an acid canestor which destroys all major components
plus the hard drive making the whole thing unuseable.

2010-12-22 Thread dark

Hi Charles.

I believe it was issue 52 or so, but you can check the audiogames.net news
for it.

It is true though there hasn't been an issue in close to 18 months I think.

I'm not sure who is editer these days (I know michael was at one point, and
I'm not sure if Ron is doing it now), but something should probably done,
especially sinse a lot more is happening in the world of accessible games
these days.

I'd considder taking over the position myself, but currently that just
wouldn't be possible due to too many other things, - audiogames.net, my
phd, serious singing commitments, playing and testing games, moderating the
entombed list etc.

Ofcause it would mean that every article people did would have to be in

THe issue is now we are so iregular, having things only 4 times a year or
less that by the time we get the next one I have forgotten what the last

Usually I read the news and articles, but skim over about 90% of the mag

Please let me know if you need further articals. I enjoyed writing the

also, this is why I would rather things stayed as text, sinse it makes
contributing far easier.

while I'm not aversed to recording podcasts, they do take time, and anyway
if I were discussing a subject like game ambience as i did last time, i'd
rather do it in text to better explain things, be more structured and
generally write a better worked out piece than I could give if i were juyst
speaking it.

I am planning to record some more podcast reviews of games when i can
(though it won't be for a while), but for some, more formal things I'd stil
say i prefer text.

Hey

Yes indeed it's been awhile since I put an issue out. My appologies
since
personal life has gotten in the way. Since mike the creater of it handed
it

to me, I therefor hold it and while a podcast update might be good there's
still those who are on the mag only list.
I'll mention this briefly and publically divorce isn't an easy time to go
through. Yes I have let you all down in not publishing an earlier issue.
For any who have travelled this road getting up the gumption takes alot
and

it's not easy by any means. The last month my Mother has been in the
hospital with various troubles.
I'm not trying to excuse myself as editor but to explain why. I'll be
glad to see 2010 go away. It's not the best of years for me.
I know the devs might want to slap me silly but January will be issue
#55.

However, like Audyssey the comunity will be able
to write reviews, articles, etc about some new game or piece of
software that has become available.

[Audyssey] soul calibur iv playthrough

2010-12-22 Thread Clement Chou
Okay, people. Here's soul calibur 4, another fighting game... soul
calibur IV is part of the soul series, which revolves around a cursed
sword known as Soul Edge. Wikipedia has a good bit of info on it, and
to be honest this game has a lot more story than many other games and
deserves a better story mode. This is the very short story mode of
soul calibur IV, disappointingly short I might add. Something akin to
the story mode in MK VS. DC wouldn't've been bad, but we get what we get.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3394499/soul%20calibur%20IV%20story%20mode%20as%20mitsurugi.mp3

This game has some of the best audio I've heard in a fighting game.
The music especially is amazing... a nice change from the usual type
of music you get in fighting games... orchestral as opposed to techno
stuff and rock. This game is playable on the ps3, xbox360, and the
psp where it's known as Soul Calibur: broken destiny. Enjoy, folks.
Questions and comments are welcome as always.

well I'd like to be involved in some way this sounds like a good venture.
A lot of things is posted at www.blindcooltech.com
in addition www.softwarepatch.com has a lot of patches.
I co share a blog at http://technology.jaredrimer.net
Its mostly leaning to security, and has some reviews and such in it.
I post articles on an almostly weekly basis mostly short tweat update
posts for windows, etc.
Sometimes if it warrents it I will post a general rant on something I
recently posted on the wikileaks saga.
This is probably gona get off topic, so, just email me if you want
other things.

sm.everiss will get me on email.
crashmaster will get me on klango which I visit at least once a day.
shau...@xtra.co.nz will get me on msn, technically this will get me
on aol and yahoo but I just signed with those for the heck of signing.
I have a rubbishy lj blog which I put all my angry moments and stuff
in nothing special really.

I have a blog at crashmaster.klangoblog.com but I havn't bothered wit this.
I am crashmaster at the audio games forum but I don't frequent there that much.
my skype is shaun_everiss but I only go on there if I want to chat so
you need to be on my msn and klango and need to have talked to me
asking first and depending on when I get that I will initiate calls.
I have a dropbox with 3gb in it mostly used for pkb and bgt and other
beta test stuff.
you can find some of my work on one of the podcasts or 2 on
technology.jaredrimer.net I have others.
if you want samples, email me and I can previde them I have a few
casts, a talking book project and some other sfx.

Re: [Audyssey] re bgt registration

2010-12-22 Thread shaun everiss

ok, thats fine but I had a security system that did that.
One day the isp lost power and the net went down in the middle of a time sink.
the date was out on all systems by 40 years the time by 40 days and a bit.
Resetting the time and date then doing a resink with dimehntion4
reset everything but I had to at that time disable avg then reenable
it to get some stuff working, then I had to reformat one system to
get things not being invalid.

so something based on time are not that good from a user point of view.
In addition I had done a lot of online registrations and other stuff
and I had to change dates and such.

I like the voice print idea, the dna scanner in the finger print and
the eye scanner sound good.
But I wouldn't like my stuff recorded and I'd like a fallback on that
maybe an emergency access or something?

ofcause guys any thought on how much that would take to write?
and all the power any idea how much processer power that stuff would use?
Ok I guess the latest i series intels could handle it but the rest of
us would use about 500% of our cpus to be secure.

The big issue with the mag though is that most of it has already happened.
We are reading audyssey right now, its mostly from this list so
unless we can get more articles or something for the mag the way
its going its not really much.
Maybe someone should take over or help who has more time, I have a
lot of time, I would eventually have to have some donations for
bandwidth and such but I am free time wize if I can be of use.

Especially over the holodays.
I am usually not that bussy and to be honest enjoy helping out in breaks.
Though I think we would have to switch to another format, txt is
fine but a podcast could be cool I have no easy or rather expensive
equipment way to do this but I can if you wish.

Stringing a few things for the mag would rock.
if I could get a perminant site and or some cash to pay for big
dropboxes or some ftp space I may just concider doing this.
Ofcause it would mean that every article people did would have to
be in audio else I'd have to render it so maybe we could have a
companion to the text.
THe issue is now we are so iregular, having things only 4 times a
year or less that by the time we get the next one I have forgotten
what the last one was.
Usually I read the news and articles, but skim over about 90% of
the mag these days.

it used to be that I'd read about most of the stuff.
I do tech stuff to who knows.

I agree with you, the audio in this game does sound pretty good. But could
you please record the character voices in English?

Thanks.

Sorry Kelly... that's a personal bias of mine. Though I know little
japanese, I personally prefer japanese voice acting to the english
dubs that are tacked on later. I'm not exactly sure what it is... but
for me personally, the original acting adds a lot more to the
atmosphere of the game for me. But I can start recording in english
in the next few postings.

[Audyssey] english version of last playthrough

2010-12-22 Thread Clement Chou
More losses this time... but that's what I get for ramping up the
difficulty. Compare the two and see which voice acting you think is
better... this isn't as bad as some, super street fighter namely, but
I've heard a lot better voice acting in other games.

What is the point of saving all those souls? I notice that no matter

Harder? longer? funner? lol! I'm not even going to go there! lol lol lol!

SEriously though, I personally haven't completed the game but also haven't
spent any time with it. I played through the first level but that was about it.
I just have other things to do. :) Holidays and all…

HOwever, am totally digging on the game and would agree that if the rest of the
game is as easy as the first level ending with the baby, that it should be no
prob at all. :) Famous last words of course! lol!

Anyway, I've been ignoring the spoilers on the list so we'll see how I do. :)
-I think this is a seriously excellent example of what's possible in terms of
audio environments on the iDevices and I for one would love love love to see a
true 3D FPS style accessible game happen… -Hmmm Wish it wouldn't be so time
consuming to adapt Audio quake / Jedi quake to iPhone…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Re: [Audyssey] dice program for synbian devices?

2010-12-22 Thread Jacob Kruger
Try updating the max value to something higher than 6 and see what it
returns then?

It's literally using a random number generator function from within
javascript, so there's not much I could change since it doesn't even at this
stage do more than generate it once off, for each page load - as in, you
could click on/select the link lower down on that web page to reload it -
but also means it doesn't know what it rendered previously - sorry.

Stay well

If you have spare time on your hands, its much appreciated if you can have
a

look into this.
Many thanks.

Ok, this is sort of something meant to test for a little while, but here's
a

link to download an offline version of the dice rolling page off my
website:

http://www.blindza.co.za/uploads/dice.zip

Just sent it to my N82, unzipped the 2 files to their own folder I created
in the phone's memory, and when I then went there in file manager and hit
select on index.htm, it did play the dice rolling sound, ask me for
minimum

and maximum values (defaulting to 1 and 6), and then told me the randomly
generated result.

Not sure if this would work on all phones as such, but anyway - it's
basically just plain HTML, making use of javascript as such, FWIW, and if
you have these on your own phone, it will work offline/free as such.
