Re: [Audyssey] Games from APH?

2011-01-24 Thread dark

Oh yes double dragon, forgot that one ;D.

I played it first on an amstrad cpc computer at the age of about 6, then
later on the Amigar and at the arcades.

Actually on a pound fifty at the age of eleven, which gave fifteen creddits
at the time I once finished the arcade game, something I was amazingly proud
of sinse it seemed rare to finish an arcade machine ;d.

I will say that I did practice, especially considdering that though I had
quite a bit more vision before my hemmerage at the age of 7, and so had
enough field of vision to play something like packman easily, after that
point my vision was the same as it is now so I had to work fairly hard,
especially with something like marrio brothers.

As to the Blind = stupid thing, that is unfortunately quite common though
one thing I'm looking forward to when I have my phd in a couple of years, is
being able to turn around to all the random people in shops, banks, cinema
reception who think I'm such an idiot they can use my first name as if
talking to a child and say actually, it's doctor! hewitt! ;D.

In fact, I actually think it's probably bad generally to treat blind kids
that way. it's something I've noticed from people who grew up in specialist
schools, they become incredibly cleaque orientated and only ever talk to
other blind people because they considder everyone else radically
different

this is something else I'm addressing in my thesis.

Anyway, I think my high horse is running away, so I'd better run off and
catch it lol!

Beware the grue!

Hi Ken,

Thank you.

You know to tell you the truth I am not positive exactly what or how the game
of mahjong is played. Is it similar to my game of concentration only with
visual tiles instead of prizes on the squares?

BTW my Aid has been playing this game on her new Droid. You load a bird into a
slingshot and fire it at a pig. Feathers flying etc. Now her husband and boys
play all of the on line XBox mudds etc, but she is not into those at all. I
guess different games for different people. Or even different games at
different times. Some times I play Concentration, Master Mind or Star Mule,
other times I am more into mindless entertainment.

It's like a pyramid of tiles, and you can only match tiles that have a free
edge, freeing up more tiles as you remove the first ones you match. You
have to be careful though, lest the pyramid fall. They have other shapes in
the visual games too, like turrets.

[Audyssey] just wondering If anyone is still into msfs...

2011-01-24 Thread peter Mahach
Hi all!
I have been getting into microsoft flight simulator lately. I must say it's not
something easy to get into but very rewarding.
I'm actually still using fs navigator as my speech recognition engine is
mangled and I've no idea how to fix it. Even then I can't even get its your
plane to install. Sad as I'd love to run the checklists and such.
To make my flying more fun I actually also use fs passengers, not sure if any
blind pilots tried this app out, but if not it it should be considered as it's
nearly perfectly accessible.
I'm just curious if anyone is still messing with this seeing, for instance, the
blind pilot project hasn't had any updates in like 2 years.

Hi,
Oh don't we all hate time. :D
Anyway, fs passengers is an add-on for microsoft flight sim to, ur, add
virtual passengers as well as some crew. You will have a co-pilot warning
you about a few events (That could perhaps be useful), an attendent giving
announcements, etc. you will also have to surve food, drinks, play movies,
etc, as well as having some more failures. IE once I was taking off and I
experienced a birdstrike and lost one of my engines forcing me to land. more
like crash, but oh well. You can get reports either durring the flight or
after it ends (either by a successful landing or a crash) telling you what
the passengers thought, giving you some averages and telling you about
casualties if there were any.

well to be honest, it seems at least with xp that if you have the
sapi 5.1 recognisers and then load office or something that uses
updated recognisers, things can break.
You can get round this partually with the sapisvr command but that
only works once I guess you could have sapisvr run on startup, and
every time you run any stuff that uses speech rec then that works but
only for that instance after that it breaks again.

I attempted but couldn't figure out training for it.
The only way to really fix it is to reformat, though this part of
sapi will break without warning and I am not sure why.

well to be honest, it seems at least with xp that if you have the
sapi 5.1 recognisers and then load office or something that uses
 updated recognisers, things can break.

Hi all!
I have been getting into microsoft flight simulator lately. I must
say it's not something easy to get into but very rewarding.
I'm actually still using fs navigator as my speech recognition
engine is mangled and I've no idea how to fix it. Even then I can't
even get its your plane to install. Sad as I'd love to run the
checklists and such.
To make my flying more fun I actually also use fs passengers, not
sure if any blind pilots tried this app out, but if not it it should
be considered as it's nearly perfectly accessible.
I'm just curious if anyone is still messing with this seeing, for
instance, the blind pilot project hasn't had any updates in like 2 years.

Hi,
In truthI don't care. Personally I'm ready to get this thing, but I wouldn't
complain if you decided to make it that much better. Go ahead.

Best Regards,

I agree completely with the right honourable gentlemans statement. Tom.
Do
what you want, and be proud of it. If you get reasonable feedback from
 the
community for reasonable changes, make them happen if you wish. no one
 is
forcing you to do anything at all. And as was said, you can't please
everyone. Just be pleased yourself that you've done a great job - all
 the
blood sweat and tears you've put into this should count for something on
your part. Well done, and keep going with it!

Re: [Audyssey] Novag Citrine chess computer findings

2011-01-24 Thread william lomas
where can i get the beginner chess course? what is it exactly?

On 22 Jan 2011, at 22:17, Charles Rivard wrote:

I posted a query to this list, asking if anyone has had experience with this
chess computer, then listed info from the web site. I received the computer
last night, and here are my initial findings. I'll list the info from the
site again, with my comments after each one:

This luxury state-of-the-art chess computer will give you the feeling of
 being royalty.
The cabinet, and dark squares are walnut, and the white squares are maple.
 The chess pieces are boxwood.
The Novag Citrine MODEL #1032 chess computer has the most recent state of the
art technology using a H8/300H RISC Processor.

A comment: On low skill levels, this computer plays an excellent game, and
the processor is very quick at coming up with surprising moves.

It has been specifically designed for the truly elite chess player.
The Novag Citrine is the most powerful, quickest thinking, highest rated, and
most elegant chess computer available in the world.

Comment: It is a very impressive looking chess board. It has a very nice
finish to the squares, and the Staunton pieces are just a touch smaller than
the chess set you got if you took the beginner's chess course from Hadley.
The bishops aren't as conically shaped as I would like, although they are
distinct, and it is a personal preference.

. Estimated rating of 2330 Elo

Comment: Well, after a bit of play, I now know what that indicates. It will
beat the snot out of you! Heh heh heh.

. 81 LED's - four in each corner of the squares on the chessboard

Comment: You can feel these LEDs, so you know where the squares are, and a
light probe will detect them. More on this in a bit.

 . Wood chess board
. Chessboard chassis, and dark squares are walnut, and the white squares are
 maple
 . Chess pieces are boxwood

Comment: This is a nice chess set to leave sitting on a coffee table for
display. When a friend came over and saw it on my desk, he said, Wow!
That's a beautiful set! Really looks nice and classy!

 . Chess board size is 11 3/4 inches x 11 3/4 inches
. Hand carved wooden chess pieces with 2.5 King
. The King measures 2 1/2 inches tall
 . RISC Processor H8/300H
 . Program Size 56K Byte ROM (Read-Only-Memory)
 . RAM: 3K Byte RAM (Random-Access- Memory)
. System Clock Speed 20 MHz
. Power Consumption 450 mW max.

Comment: This computer does not operate on batteries, so you could not play
chess while traveling. Nor is it noisy enough to be heard in a car, bus, or
plane. It is for home use only, unfortunately.

. Opening Book appr. 24,000 halfmoves

Comment: It does have a very wide selection of book openings that it selects
at random, based on your first move if you are playing White, or it will
select one at random if it is playing White. It's first move is not always
 the same.

. Separate detachable LCD screen has a six character alphanumeric display
with a chess clock, shows moves and a full range of game information, also
allows insight into the computer's thinking process and verifies positions
 . Separate detachable LCD screen chassis measures 3 1/2 inches x 2 1/4
inches, and the screen measures 1 3/4 inch x 3/4 inch

Comment: The computer works the same whether this LCD unit is plugged in or
not, so I play without it. But it does have a very clear and sharp display
according to what the friend said about it.

. PC interface cable (included) allows the game to be followed on a computer
 screen
. Save and print games or connect to www.playwitharena.com which will allow
you to play UCI programs and convert games to pgn.

Comment: This is a serial port cable, not a USB. All of the information on
the LCD display will show up on the computer screen, along with a board
layout so that other people can see the game in progress if you have a big
screen. I haven't tried playing other chess engines through this machine,
and I'm not really into that sort of thing, so don't know how often I will be
using this capability of the machine.

 . Files for download:
 1. Novag Chess Computer to PC Protocol with Microsoft Hyoerterninal program.
 2. Citrine PC communication Protocol
 3. Citrine to PC with Arena
 4. Citrine play a third-party chess engine on the Citrine via Arena.

. Auto-sensing of moves on sensory board detects the location of chess pieces

Comments: The way it works is this: There is a magnet in the base of each
chess piece that will attract a switch that is positioned under each of the
board's squares. Pick up a piece, and the switch is released. Place a piece
on a square, and the switch is lifted. This is how the computer keeps track
of the board position. However, the magnets are not strong enough to hold
the pieces in place if you are scoping out your move on the board. I solved
 this by placing strip magnet
