Re: [Audyssey] Kodp questions
Hi Zack. I didn't know about the hover feature, that will help a lot. I haven't mucked about with vo's options, so I assume everything is still at it's default there. as to the sliders, yes, I'm flicking not double tapping them, an oversite on my part. Well bakc to seeing my clan do what they're supposed to! Beware the grue! On Nov 17, 2012, at 11:46 PM, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Firstly, hints on? the manual (which I have read), advised turning hints on for use with voice over, and I seem to remember that being said elsewhere too, yet I see nothing in the controls section of the menue about hints at all. Has this option changed in more recent updates, or am I missing something. The hints in question are a VoiceOver feature, not a game option. You would probably remember turning them off, and they are on in any case by default. One way to toggle them is to add them to your voiceover rotor, and adjust them that way. As suggested though, leave them on. Secondly, the only screens I'm having major trouble with at the moment are the screens that list your nobles, like the ring reorganize screen, and the screens for choosing leaders of exploration parties or caravans or the like. the basic problem is I don't know how to check people's info.If I double tap on a person's name, it selects them and I can't find where to look for their information such as their stats and what god they worship. am I just missing something here? I found the similar info about clans on the relations page, but as regards people I can't seem to. You do not have to double tap a person to get their info. Simply hover over them for a few seconds, without moving or otherwise interacting with them, and you will hear their stats and info read out. As a matter of fact, this is a direct consequence of the hints you mentioned above. then, I'm not exactly sure what the filters do sinse I can't really tell what they've done in terms of changing order, and the filter doesn't automatically select someone with next best stats, and i'm not sure if it changes the order of people or even how as regards flicking through them with vo. To use a filter, move to it and flick your finger up and down. You do not actually need to double tap it, just move the finger up and down as though you were assigning battle magic for instance. What they will do is sort the leaders according to the stats selected, so you will find the order changes when you use them. They are particularly handy in reorganizing the ring. I also need to think about this explore button thing, sinse I hit the wrong one during the tutorial and probably sent off a warrior to do an explorer's job! :d. Lastly, a miner point, but when I double tap an adviser on my ring to get their advice, vo gets half way through speaking it then goes back to the person's name and info and I have to find the advice panel again to see what the adviser has said. Again, if there's an obvious way around this I'd appreciate knowing. Unfortunately, this last point seems to be a problem of the way voiceover works. The behavior is a little inconsistent, but if you practice you can eventually get the advice one way or another. I'm not sure if there's anything the developers can do on their side to change that. I'm glad you like the game. :-) I hope you continue to enjoy it, and that this answer has been helpful. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] getting MS Flight Sim, Itsyourplane, and Voice recognition working on XP?
Hi there. I had heard of the idea that blind people were experimenting with Microsoft Flight Simulator, through people I became friends with on muds like Galaxyweb. If I recall correctly, FSNavigator was the only thing around, and the developer may have shut down the project near the second demonstration's posting on Blindcooltech, making it impossible to purchase it to get in to this hobby myself. Recently, something triggered me to search Google to see if anything more modern was around or if this hobby was still restricted to the FSNavigator license holders that got in before the shutdown, and I found the site for Itsyourplane. One of the forum posts gave me a link to some audio demos, but most seem to be with FS 2002 or 2004. I understand FSX, which is the version sold now can work with the IYP add on, but will I be able to work with it in JFW? Also, how are those that are using it getting the Microsoft Speech Recognition system trained so that IYP will work good? I still have XP yet, so can't use System Access's vista features to go through the training during the 7-day trial and then running the simulator with Jaws once I have a speech profile. Before I end up putting a bunch of money down on IYP and FSX for my machine, can I get the training of the speech recognition done with no sighted assistance? To train mine I put jaws in say all and it only speaks what is highlighted. Its a pain to go through and takes time but you will get there. Hi dakota fortunately, I phoned apple support and got things sorted, now have an apple id and have even downloaded and played the lost cities card game. I don't know exactly what you mean by put everything on your roter as far as I've been able to determine (and I could be wrong here), the roter's function seems to be setting what objects the single finger flic up or down moves betwene, characters, words, headings etc. I haven't used this too much yet, though while on the phone to my network provider I did change the roter setting to characters so I could give my phone's ima number so that they could recognize the account. I can see how the setting would be usefull in terms of navigating other pages, and it's probably something I need to experiment with a little more. Beware the Grue! Is there a demo version, and if so, how do I try it? if not, never mind, I'll just buy the thing and chance it, although it does slightly sound like jumping in at the deep end as

Re: [Audyssey] light game query
When I said repetitive I was more referencing the fact that no matter how high level you get, there's nothing really new happening. Light cars things just happen faster. Treasuremania there's more things going on, but nothing new. Yes, the challenges increase in number, but nothing new ever happens. After a while, that fact just seems to push me away. - Original Message - From: Desiree Oudinot turtlepowe...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Date sent: Sat, 17 Nov 2012 14:07:36 -0500 Subject: Re: [Audyssey] light game query I still play Light Cars and Light Locator when I get bored. I Like BopIt Ultimate as well, but not as much, since I think the keyboard layout is a bit clunky, and never could quite get the hang of it enough to be really good at it. But the comment was made that these games can get repetitive. Well, with the exception of Light Locator, I disagree, and to me, even that's a bit of a stretch. Light Cars requires good reflexes the higher you go, which keeps you on your toes and interested, not to mention you don't always get the same bonus items every time. I also like the car sounds a lot, and was thinking about adapting them into Top Speed cars. With BopIt, as I said, the keyboard setup alone should keep you interested. To be honest, I haven't played Treasure Mania enough to know much about it, but I might try to get back into it, and as for Light Locator, I agree that when you play that game, it's the kind of thing you can play once and be done with it for awhile, but it was a very interesting concept. It's really a shame that these guys stopped developing games, I was looking forward to what they would do next. Re: [Audyssey] Silver sword and other ios games for access?
Hi shannon. Heroes rise is I believe one of the games from www.choiceofgames.com, you can even play some of their stuff free online there or you can buy it in the ap store. I haven't played heroes rise myself, or indeed any of their games on the Iphone, but I have played through a couple of their free offerings such as choice of the dragon in standard ie. i actually sent them a mail recently about access matters generally, and perhaps having some more accessible platforms than just iphone, ie, making paid brouser versions. They weren't however forthcoming. I got a very curt response saying we will fix the access bug in ios 6 which clearly showed they'd not read my message (sinse I didn't have an iphone at the time and was asking about an accessible universal online paid version), and when I pointed this out to them I got no reply. So, the games may or may not have a bug in Ios 6, and I'm not entirely convinced on the friendliness of the company. I might well check out their games, sinse the ones I played online were certainly good, but I don't plan to rush out and buy them as I did with dragon pass. Beware the Grue! Hi John. I see your point, but again, that is how arcade games worked sinse the time of packman and space invaders, indeed I remember the days when one single a different coloured enemy who appeared on level 10 was considdered a major achievement that you'd work for hours to see! So, while I agree in principle, I don't think this is a problem with light tech's games specifically, as much as it is part of the way arcade style games work. After all the same could be said of both original egghunt games (though the trophies in plus do help), lockpick, the great toy robbery, all of the esp pinball titles (still imho some of the best arcade games available in audio), dynaman etc, etc. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] light game query
Hi Dark, Agreed. I think the problem is that more modern games have spoiled people into thinking every single level has to be unique. different, etc when that's not how the arcade genre worked. I've played all the classics like Pong and Astroids up to Super NES games and the majority of the early arcade games were just the same level over and over again with more enemies, faster enemies, or different colored enemies. For instance, a game I use to play heavily in the early 1980's, Demon Attack, might be considered boring by today's standards, but it was actually great fun. Back in those days we were more concerned about topping our highest score than a great deal of variety. Of course, Atari didn't have the CPU power and memory to do anything much more advanced so we all got use to that's how it was back then. It wasn't until Nintendo came out with their original NES console that we wanted bigger and better things because it had superior graphics, more complex styles of games, and a bit more variety in levels. Still, even then if you look at Super Mario Brothers there were only four or five different worlds. After that it just looped over and over between those different worlds. that's just how arcade games work. If that's boring so be it, but I still enjoy an arcade game once and a while. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] light game query
Hi tom. I was a little too young to get the complete experience being that in 1987 and 88 when i was playing games on the atari 2600 and amstrad cpc computers, I was only about 6 or 7, yet I do remember something really thrilling about seeing different enemies because! so much of the game was the same, particularly sinse I couldn't read the scores I was playing just for the experience and to see how far I got. In a sense this gave things personality at least for me. For instance in joust, initially you'd be fighting creatures called shadow lords who were a dark brown colour. If however you hit a shadowlord and didn't pick up the egg it transformed into, it'd hatch into a large white creature that was faster and harder to kill, and if you knocked that! off and failed to pick it up again, it'd morph into something huge and blue. The harder creatures would also appear on later levels too, as would a flying bird that tracked your location. I never knew the names for these upgraded monsters, indeed I don't think they had them, but I gave them all names myself, the snow lord for the white creature and the killer for the blue one. even though there was only a colour change, those things were dam scary! and I remember thinking oh hell! when I saw one of those nasties turning up. The same was true in other games, even on, double dragon for instance which only in fact had five basic enemies in it's original form, though some appeared in different colours as well, or my favourite amstrad game rowland on the ropes. Of course, all these games were pretty difficult, meaning that in order to get! to see those later enemies, you'd have to work pretty hard and be quite good at the game. In a sense I do wonder if people have slightly lost patience with this aspect of gaming, --- though then again the portable systems like Ios and android are! seeina resurgence in arcade style games at the moment in the main stream sinse they are so much quicker and easier to play on the move, and easier to pickup for none gamers than a complex 3D action adventure title. Of course though, I can't deny more complex games are great, as in fac tht elong night I spent playing King of dragon pass last night shows! :d. BEware the grue! Re: [Audyssey] King of dragon price?
Hi zack. Well as to how things are going, not as well as they could be sinse I finished the tutorial, which is either due to me being unfamiliar with the game, or just bad luck. Exploration has worked quite well and i've got some handy bennifits from that, however less good to report on the trading or war fronts, sinse my people have got into a fued with another clan and we keep getting attacked. I've beaten off some cattle raides (mostly I think due to reserving some magic and using it), but I'm not doing half as well with larger raides, either by our enemies, or wandering hoards of trolls! I've built a temple to humact, and have his battle blessing, but i think the main problem is lack of numbers, sinse my weapon thanes keep getting killed I don't get to increase them. I also don't particularly know at the moment what is a good force to send against an enemy. I have also built a temple to the healing goddess which helps reduce the damage at least, though we've had a few desasters including a plague which haven't been helpfull. In other news, we are producing lots of goods, but our outgoing of cows is quite a lot, and attempting to consolidate matters to increase the herd hasn't worked thus far, even though I'm using goods to sacrifice and have got a blessing from the cattle goddess. We're not in dire straights yet as we still have over 700 cows, but I am conscious we're using more than we ar producing at the moment. I attempted to buy a treasure from another clan who we were friends with which would've sped up the wrate of our children's growth, however I didn't offer enough, (I offered 90 goods). In general, it'd be helpfull to know a few basic exchange wrates. how much are cows and treasures generaly worth in goods, and what is a reasonable sacrifice? then again, it was rather late at night when I was playing the game, and when I read the manual, maybe having a look again with a clearer mind will help the situation. Thomas it might not be on your end. I get that problem about once a week, and it always corrects itself after several minutes. Hi Dark, Yeah, must have been a temporary glitch as I'm not experiencing it now. It wasjust acting weird last night and that once this morning. Re: [Audyssey] Audiogames.net Forum
funny, I logue in to the audiogames.net forum at least twice a day (often more), and rarely if ever see that problem, indeed I can't remember the last time I saw the site down that way. could it be something to do with the fact that audiogames.net is likely hosted on a machine in Holland, and this is some sort of lag to the us that doesn't affect people in europe? or maybe it's a certain issue with your isp's connections. Re: [Audyssey] light game query
Hi Tom. Well some of those old games were going a bit too! far in difficulty, I mean the ones where you couldn't actually progress without real trouble and many tries. i never played original montizuma's revenge, but some of the old amstrad avoidance platformers, games like manic miner, jet set willy or spikey the hedgehog, games that in retroremake parlance are now called avoidemups were horribly! difficult. This is why I am such a fan of games like mega man that got this balance exactly right, hard enough to be pretty dam challenging, but not so that you would be utterly turned off, sinse you'd get further each time, --- -though of course megaman isn't really an arcade game (original the original 1986 one which did! have a scoring system), sinse the hole point was! to complete it and see all the levels and bosses. Myself, i love extra content, but it's got to be worth working for and not just like a film you stick on and essentially play to the end then never watch again because you've seen it. This was one thing I felt about grizly gulch and chillingham, as well as some other space invaders games, especially the simple ones like mudsplat. Even terraformers suffered from this problem a little I found. however good the game, if it's going to be finished the first day, then achievements aren't really going to achieve much :D. There is also for me however an element of exploration, even it's barest and most simple sense. I don't know if you ever played the atari game berzerk, in which you wandered around a maze the size of one screen shooting robots. I used to love Berzerk, jsut because even though they were a pregenerated set of five or so mazes with robots scattered at random, the chance to work through them, blasting the nasty rrobots, avoiding deaths when the game generated me slap back next to a robot etc was really stimulating. This is something of course I grew to enjoy far more with games with their own maze layout like turrican and metroid. then of course, there is the fact that arcade wrack up score games are simpler and easier to play than harder ones. I have just bought king of dragon pass as you know, and in general the detail and complexity of the game is everything I could want. However, I can guarantee there will be times when I'm simply not mentally up to the challenge of very detailed management and story, and want to just murder some robots for a bit of fun! This is also I'll add though where progressive achivements can help, and where platforms like the Iphone are bringing back that sort of game, sinse if I for instance were playing berzerk and there was a trophy to urn for blasting ten thousand robots or completing a tthousand rooms of the maze in successive games, not only! would a five minute blast be fun on it's own, but it'd also be contributing to an over all statistic and thus giving a sense of accomplishment. As witness this with audio games, look how well Liam's arcade games with trophy's have done. I probably wouldn't have bought judgement day myself if it hadn't had the trophy system, sinse in the end it is! just another space invaders game, and it is the trophy system that would incline me to buy super egghunt (though currently I'm a little busy with my Iphone to considder arcade games). So, I wouldn't say it's a case of the ability to have! extra achievements or content that is the culprit, rather people's inability to work for them, or to enjoy other aspects of games such as exploration. Btw, one thought does occur to me about arcade games. Part of the problem in access terms, is that everything we have is either a space invaders sterrio targiting fest, or a varient on egghunt. I've often thought that an arena shooter like robotron 2000, or indeed berzerk (provided it didn't get bogged down in maze mechanics), would be a great idea for an audio arcade game. the fp perspective would give the same kind of absorbing experience as in packman talks, but players could really let rip with the amo, run around the arena and blast at speed. Heck, to speed up the game it wouldn't even need to be a complete! first person game with 360 movement, 8 way running would be more than adequate, with a strafe feature to blast away in front of you as you shuffled sideways, sinse in those sorts of games fast movement and shooting on the run was what tended to be the best style of play. Super deakout was I think the game that came closest to this, but even then, there was no actual weaponry to be shot in the game, much less weapon power ups, and there were only a max of two enemies in play at once, where as with those arena shooters there could be literally hundreds, and even in audio you could probably get away with more. Maybe something like that would help get audio arcade games out of their current rut. Beware the grue! Dark. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you
Re: [Audyssey] King of dragon price?
Hi Dark, Glad to know things are still going, at least. Generally, cows and goods are equivalent, although obviously you can stand to give up more of a latter than the former. Treasures very wildly in price, although 60 to 90 goods is typical. There is sadly no real way to judge how much they will cost beforehand, though if you have a good trader on the mission they will try and bargain for you. As far as raiding enemy tulas, I aim for a minimum of 15 thanes or so. Any less than that and I'm likely to be outnumbered. Later in the game, your enemies will also increase their defender counts, so be aware of that. Hope this helps, Zack. On Nov 18, 2012, at 7:58 AM, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi zack. Hi zack. Well war isn't going well, though I've built a couple of cheaper fortifications which have at least stopped me getting beaten up by trolls and wandering horsemen and those nasty herrani clan (the gits!). however my own raides aren't as successfull for some reason, even if I put a couple of points into war during a ritual, and even with my temple to humact giving a battle blessing, and my disinclination to go raiding is getting on my warrior's nerves too. though I've had a couple of cattle raides and a trading caravan with a friendly clan that have at least kept my rate of cattle settled over the last five or so years, and exploration has found some goods and other stuff, as well as some specials that hav gien horses some of which I've used to repay a favour owed to another clan. Re: [Audyssey] King of dragon price?
Hi Dark, Animals and plants skill help with farming and cattle related events, of which there are several. They also help with the hero quests of their particular gods, of course. As the manual says, a balanced clan ring is important, ideally with seven different gods represented, though that can be difficult to achieve depending on the skills of your nobles. Speaking of nobles, as they age, it might be worthwhile checking on the reorganize screen every so often to see if they have any preference to leave the ring, or what have you. Double tapping the place you'd normally shuffle them on and off will produce a small statement from them which you can find with VO. most of the time this is flavor text, but occasionally it will reveal something about them… One might have a hatred for elves, or be ambitious, or just want to retire to tend sheep. Similarly, watch for trends in their advice. Some are very helpful, others borderline senile. Hope this helps, Zack. On Nov 18, 2012, at 2:21 PM, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi zack.
