Ah yes, access is great in Sryth,k though I was rather putoff by the fact
that the gm kept selling those bloody weapons thaat took adventurer tocans
to buy, and then sticking in areas that were impossible without them making
the game a pay to complete which I didn't like, albeit that was a while
back.
Still, it was a change from when the game used to be free back in 2004 or
even in 2006 when subscriptions first came in and the game played far more
like a twenty thousand page gamebook.

Hi Dar,
It's Sryth which although it isn't a Mud has some fantastic tools for
navigating which were created as far as I have been lead to believe from
dialogues between the Game Master and players.

like Sryth?

I used to really like being able to get a lot of experience carving on
equipment or just random things I found around the game. It was good to
be able to go down to the troll caves and pick up heaps of human heads,
drag them back to a location, and carve on them while having
conversations with my clan mates or just other Alter players in general.
I find that myself and others are a lot less social now that carving
items isn't really worth doing experience wise. I cannot participate in
conversations while navigating around the world or keeping track of what
is going on in battles.

The other issue I have mentioned previously is being completely lost
once transitioning to the mainland. I have recently gone back to playing
another role playing game with a big world and lots of quests that does
a few things to make navigation easier. The first tool that is available
is a list of all unfinished quests and their location. Alter does have a
list of quests but figuring out where they are on the mainland can be
quite difficult. The next tool that we have access to is a reference to
how to get to any important realm, town, or large city. This has a
further benefit of assisting me to understand how the world is laid out
as well as the obvious one of knowing where locations are on a day to
day basis. The final thing that has been done is to make all dungeons on
a grid using only the four cardinal directions. This is really useful
because it allows people to make maps using Excel spreadsheets. As far
as I know, maps can be made in MushZ however, there is no way to
actually explore these maps like you can in Excel.
I think having a list of quests and where to access them, a list of fame
mobs and where you access them, and directions to places in the Alter
Aeon world would be incredibly useful! After all, just because you know
where a quest or mob is doesn't mean you have the strategies to complete
or beat it.Maybe these resources exist and I just don't know about them
and if this is the case I apologize. As for asking other players for
help, I find most people hoard information and only really want to help
out those in their clan.

I think that Alter is a lot of fun and there is a lot to do and
discover. Unfortunately due to the player/clan culture as well as not
having the resources available to find quests, important mobs, and
locations people who have trouble understanding and retaining spacial
information are missing out.

Kind regards,

Grace

Actually, there was a simpler reason for the light catcher change:
experience. It's been two years since druid was added, and the amount
of druid class and skill exp is still half what it should be. One of
the reasons for this is because people carve one set of suncatchers,
then never make any more of them. Carving was always meant to be a
big part of the exp that druids were capable of getting, and without
carving exp there's not really any way for me to properly balance the
class so it's on par with the others.

One question: how many lightcatchers have you broken so far, since
the change went in? The rate of breakage is really low, and I'd be
surprised if it's happened to you yet.

Hi Dark,

Also if you've got an I device like an iPhone or iPad with serie if you
just ask serie something like 'convert 40 American dollars to pounds' serie
will let you know what it converts to. I've only used it to convert dollars
and euros to pounds but I'm sure it works for lots of other currencies too.
It’s a little off subject but I've just found out if you ask serie to roll a
dice it will do a dice roll for you to. This should prove helpful next time
I play monopoly with my little boy , since he tells me he's not cheating with
his dice rolls, but well let's just say he seems to get a lot of lucky rolls
and me not so , maybe I'll actually win a game against him now hahaha

Hi Danielle.

Sinse I often buy things in dollars, (and occasionaly euroes), I can do
rough convertions from British pounds in my head, but I've just been looking
around for a currency converter and found something very interesting.
if you type the basic amounts into google, you will be given an instant
convertion, eg, if you wanted to know what ten us dollars was in pounds
you'd type 10 usd to gbp.

For example,

19.49 euros = 20.7504 US dollars.

So, there you have it, the basic game costs 20 dollars an70 cents :D.

Hth.

Hi Josh,

I am well aware of Android and its games. In fact, was considering one
for a very long time. Thing is while Android has a fair selection it
isn't the same selection so user preference would have a lot to do
with the purchasing process here. So while I haven't forgotten about
Android I'm uncertain myself if that is the way I personally want to
go for my phone purchase.

 Hi Dark,

Oh, I don't doubt that. Unfortunately, I am extremely cash strapped
right now so haven't had the funds or means available to purchase a
new iPhone so have had to do without that advantage myself. Still, I
do have it on the things to do once those funds become available to
me. I just looked at phone plans the other day and it might be
feasible in the next few months or so once I see my way through my
 medical issues.

[Audyssey] possible idea for new game.

2015-12-02 Thread goshawk on horseback
hello all,
this is a very much half formed idea at the moment, but thought I would throe
it out there to see what people think.
the idea I had, was for a horse riding game, where the back story is, that
whilst on holiday, you decide to hire a horse and check out the countryside,
unfortunately however, the only horse hire business in the area, is run by a
rather grumpy and sadistic individual, (possibly called sadistic Stacy) who
only really likes 3 things in life, her horses, sitting around watching tv, and
having a nice full cash till. 5 things she really hates, are customers,
receiving complaints, having horses come back in poor condition, riders coming
back late, and having to get off of her behind to go collect a horse and rider.
as you are on holiday, you only have a certain budget to spend, which would
normally get you a number of rides, but received complaints, injuries to the
horse, coming back late, and having to be collected, will all cost extra. even
more unfortunately for you, (as in real life sometimes), the countryside is
full of mean spirited individuals, such as farmers who will complain to St
acy if you damage too much of there crops, or scare there sheep. you can avoid
them by sticking to the roads, but then you will have delivery van, and truck
drivers, who will have to slow down for you if you don't, or can't pull over in
time, and they will also complain to Stacy about this. there are also idiot
motorbikers on the roads, some of who will also complain about you slowing them
down, but some of whom will just belt past you, scaring your horse, which could
cause it to go haring off in to a field of crops or sheep, either damaging, or
scaring the hell out of them. some other fields have bulls in them, who will
not be happy to see you, and may come after you if you spend too long in there
fields, if they catch you and collide with your horse, this will cause the
horse an injury. there are also sometimes loose dogs that will think it is fun
to chase your horse, and bite it if they catch it.
there are some decent horse tracks, which one can canter or gallop on, useful
for out pacing the dogs, or making up time. there are also very muddy tracks,
which may cause your horse to slip and fall if you go up them too fast.
there could be some streams that need to be jumped, either as short cuts, or
again, good for shaking off the dogs.
the bull fields could have electric fences, which an idea could be that you
need to lure the bull in to it, which will discourage it from chancing you any
more, with out your horse hitting the fence. another possibility is that some
better horses may be able to jump the fences, where as the bull would slam
headlong in to the fence.
some of the roads have good verges which you can pull the horse over on when
required, but some of them have ditches, so that you can't pull over with out
causing your horse to slip and fall in to them, causing an injury. some of the
ditches, which could be along side roads, tracks, or fields, also may have fly
tipped loose plastic sheeting in, which will flap around in the wind, and scare
your horse, causing it to run off somewhere else, as mentioned earlier. you can
only go at a walk or trot on the roads, as going any faster on them will cause
the horse an injury owing to the harder surface.
there could also be pig pens, on the corners of some roads or tracks, which
need to be avoided by going to the other side of the road or track, as passing
too close to these will also scare the horse, (strange but true fact, horses
really don't like pigs).
you can only go at walk if you need to cut through a sheep field, as going any
faster will scare the sheep, leading to a complaint, possibly unless you can
exit that field in time, before the farmer notices you. the same could be the
case if you end up in a field of crops, if you can get out of it in time, the
farmer may not notice you, so won't complain.
there could be a few sorts of game, one could be a timed one,
another could be where you just have to get round the rout with as fewer
complaints and horse injuries as possible,
and a third could be a see how long you can keep riding for before you rack up
too many complaints and/or injuries.
some other possibilities for variables could include:
spending more of your budget for a better horse, which could be less prone to
scares, better able to jump the fences, keep it's footing better on the muddy
tracks (meaning that you can go a bit faster on them), and/or could just go
faster in general.
doing this however, will mean that you won't get so many rides for your budget,
and will have less of it available for the fines for complaints and/or
injuries.
spending a bit of your budget on dog biscuits, which you can drop behind you
and make the loose dogs lose interest in chancing you.
traveler horses, which will follow you, these won't cause you any injury, but
you will need to shake

Hi,
I can't say I'm too thrilled over yet another Space Invaders Clone in the
Audio Games community. Why not try to do something original like bilateral
movement in a space shooter. It has been done with Tank Commander and
Shades of Doom after all, and that was over ten years ago. I think the
Audio Games business suffers from a quite severe case of idea recycling
and lack of innovative development.

On the positive side though, I much prefer other titles by this developer
such as the Inquisitor series or the Rally game.

I'm quite happy to play without sounds, though if your looking for sounds in
a mud Lindsay you should try the mushZ alter pack.
much as I'm usually a big fan of Vipmud, the mushZ cliant is the one
exception, sinse it turns alteraeon into virtually an audiogam.

Go to http://www.mush-z.org/ to find out about it. You don't need anything
else, the client will install and run from there, just install it run the
update to check you've got all the latest sounds etc, read the readme and
have fun.

In terms of muds I personally go for exploring and activities and stuff to
do, one reason I've been looking at other less usual muds. Rp really doesn't
bother me in a mud, sinse if I'm going to rp with human players I'd prefer a
gm and a table todo it in sinse no program however complex can equal the
creativity of a real human gm, and I'd much rather play with 2-5 other
people and be the heroes and have our own game than be one character in a
world of millions anyway.

Personally i like muds with good activities and quests to do and places to
explore and wander around, indeed in one post on the Alteraeon blog a few
years back where Dentin described the various player types, the solo
explorer is pretty much me.

I suspect that were the games available I probably wouldn't play mmorpgs or
muds at all, just restrict myself to story driven single player rpgs, but as
those aren't going I'll go for exploration based muds with good and
interesting activities and quests and environments.

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Portable interactive fiction game playing device/unit

2015-12-02 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Dark,

I am not sure of the differences between the Apple program vs the usual carrier
based programs but apparently people do like it so I am assuming there is
something worth checking into there.

As a matter of fact, I was actually not planning on upgrading from my current
6+ to the 6S+ but the upgrade program has got me considering it just to have
the latest iPhone for development.

Aside from the 3D Touch and better camera on the new phone, I am fairly content
with my current phone but when it comes to development, it is always best to
work on the most current platform as well as having a choice of former
platforms as well with which to test software.

Anyway, I am not sure how cost-effective the monthly programs are here in the
states in the long run, but it is nice to know that the tech is available for a
less ridiculous up-front price both here and in the rest of the world. Very
glad you saw cost benefits in the end from the monthly plan. That’s good to
know. For gaming (among other things) it is always nice to have access to the
latest tech.

I am always super impressed with all of the new games constantly coming out for
mobile devices and the iPhone in particular. Each new generation of hardware
just takes the gaming experience another leap forward and the new development
libraries both from device manufacturers and third-parties just make the ease
of coding new and incredible features that much better both for developers and
customers alike.

Between iOS and Android, it is totally doable to really have all one’s
computing needs taken care of in the mobile space. Personally, aside from my
development work, I would be quite happy to take my computing completely mobile
at this point.

I do %99 of my current gaming on a mobile device and prefer it that way.

-And, with a BT keyboard, I can do anything else I would like to do on a
regular basis, in the mobile space.

As far as gaming goes, I am actually much more intrigued with the mobile space
vs the full-on PC space since the mobile platform is a much more interactive
platform in my opinion.

Both as a developer and as a customer, I love the idea of touch input, as well
as kinesthetic interaction with the device. Couple all this with the compass
and location awareness and the whole way one can interact with games can be
much more immersive and can also foster entirely new gaming experiences from
what has been common on the PC platforms.

So to get back to the original point of the post, it is nice to know that the
distributed payment plans can actually be beneficial and allow more folks to
get awesome and helpful devices!

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. :) thanks for your post and have a great
evening!…

Cheers!

One of the nice things was that when I deducted the price of the actual Iphone
itself from my yearly bill, the unlimited internet and phone calls were half
what I was paying on my previous plan, so I actually made on the deal over all
even though my phone bil itself was larger.

If I wanted to upgrade the phone, I could just do the same again, though as I
said I'm waiting until a model turns up with sufficiently more advanced
features relative to my Iphone five to make buying the thing actively worth
while.

All the best,

Re: [Audyssey] Turf wars map question

2015-12-02 Thread Dallas O'Brien
hi guys. no, you can in fact move the map. obviously, the area in which you
can buy stuff is limited to a certain range, but that extends a little past
your main current location. you move the maps focus the same way you move
map focus in a maps app. scrolling.

also, dark, be careful of upgrading too heavily, as this can lead to you
being capped. better off having more smaller turfs, then a couple hugely
upgraded ones. plus, keep your levels down. anything up to 15 or 20, is
protected by the don, and levels also effect who can attack you.
so better off having more turfs at lower inf levels, and keeping your level
to under 20 if you can. i'm currently sitting on level 19, and i have over
43 turfs. this is possible, as i paid to have extra points as a donation to
the devs for the totally awesome work at accessibility they are doing.
also, check this page out, it has some info about what you should and
should not do, and weapons / armor combos for best effect at various levels
/ configurations.

good luck all.

Re: [Audyssey] Fw: New audiogame: Space Encounter availableforPCand Mac!

Hi Danielle.

It was odd, I typed "currency converter" into google and got links to some
really complicated sites, but at the top of the search results was the
exchange rate of pounds to dollars, so I started typing other currency
amounts into google to see what I got.

Actually this find will be very useful for me too.

Geez I have fallen in love with Jesus not Google! Thanks for the
conversion! Hope it should work for me in the future. That is an
interesting find and something I'd not thought to do. Google doesn't
work here for me antyway!

if you type the basic amounts into google, you will be given an instant
convertion, eg, if you wanted to know what ten us dollars was in pounds
you'd type 10 usd to gbp.

For example,

19.49 euros = 20.7504 US dollars.

So, there you have it, the basic game costs 20 dollars an70 cents :D.

I definitely won't be spending that much on it. for the comparatively
small
extras of being able to customize a name or 2, I personally don't

the extra outlay is worth it. now if one could for example customize

faster engines and such, and/or unlock more or different missions,
those
would be the sorts of things that I for one would seriously think
about

forking out extra for.

Re: [Audyssey] Portable interactive fiction game playing device/unit

2015-12-02 Thread dark

Hi Josh.

there are more games being developed for Android it is true, but the
selection is still farely small compared to Ios, for example I don't believe
there are too many really imersive 3D action games for android yet, and the
Android version of King of Dragon pass is unfortunately inaccessible at the
moment (though that might change in the future).

This isn't one of those "Ios good, Android bad" type of conversations, just
noting that if your interested in games Ios at the moment is probably the
way to go if you just get one.

This might of course change in the future, indeed I'm not beyond the
possibility of getting an Android tablet myself for games, though there
hasn't really been enough unique to Android yet, plus of course the
compatibility business with different models and operating systems and such
hasn't helped either.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi Jacob,

Cool. Sounds like a nifty little gaming device you got there. The
only

thing is while I do like interactive fiction games I'm not sure I'd
want to pay out the investment for something like this myself since I
only play interactive fiction games occasionally. If the /Raspberry

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "because they are open source they're

The very fact that they are open source is a danger. Plus it would be
more
work for a developer, and the blind iDevice user market is far larger
than
the blind Android user market, plus the vast number of phones and
different
operating systems is a problem when it comes to Androids. The number of
iDevice types and operating systems is not much of a factor. Anything 7.0

or
higher is compatible for iDevice users, and most devices will be able to
use

Below is description from IOS app store

Blindfold Air Hockey is an fully accessible audio game that's similar
to
the
arcade game Air Hockey.

In Blindfold Air Hockey, you have a mallet or paddle, and there's a
puck
on
the playing table. To start the game, hit the puck swiping your
finger.
The
puck heads towards your opponent's goal, where he knocks it back to
you,
bouncing off of the walls as it gets closer to your goal. You block
his
shot, and fire the puck back at his goal. The first player to score 7
goals
wins the game.

Using head phones or ear buds, you hear the puck heading towards you,
and
you control your mallet by moving your finger left and right. When the
puck
is close enough, you'll hear a ding sound, and you can swipe the puck
aim at
your opponent's goal.

Blindfold Air Hockey comes with a tutorial level, and 16 different
opponents
- varying from beginner to expert.

Blindfold Air Hockey was suggested by several blind gamers who enjoyed
Blindfold Breakout and Blindfold Bowling.

The game comes with coins; you need one coin to play. To get more
coins,
you
can listen to advertising videos, or purchase coins as an in-app
upgrade.

Re: [Audyssey] alter-aeon

2015-12-02 Thread Justin Jones
Jeremy,

I think I would be a bit less critical if Alter Aeon had been around
for only a few years, but since it has been in operation for two
decades, I do not feel the need to be overly sympathetic. If I could
play the commercial MMORPG games, I would be doing that rather than
playing Alter Aeon. Unfortunately, as a blind gamer, I am heavily
restricted with my options (a situation that aggravates me to no end).

I will concede that Alter is definitely a step above other muds. I
have investigated others and they are either not well supported,
extremely PVP heavy or have a strong RP requirement. None of those
options particularly appeal to my sensabilities. Also, up until I
started playing Alter Aeon, I was not very well connected to the blind
community. Thanks to Alter, I have plenty of blind friends now (though
the vast majority of my friends remain sighted).

The best way to explain my harsh criticism of Alter Aeon is I
recognize the potential it has from transforming from a merely good
game (which it is) to a great game. It is, perhaps, a quirk of mine
that my harshest criticisms go toward the things that I recognize
potential in.

As for your points, we are going to have to agree to disagree and
leave it at that. Perhaps you might be willing to provide some
guidance on Alter for me. I am, at the very least, willing to learn
and improve. Then, perhaps, I might be willing to rethink my position
on the various issues I have commented on.

My main on Alter Aeon is Morathi, with my three primary alts being
Sheoldred, Ohthere and Corallyon.

One thing which I thought was cool was that the English version had

Danielle et al;

I actually just purchased one on Amazon this morning in light of our
conversation! :)

The one I got was about $32 USD and there is a gold edition for $64
or so. I have no idea what the difference is and could not glean it
from the description. So, since I know I enjoy the original, I went
for that one.

So there are a number of sellers on Amazon which still do sell the
game.

If anyone needs a linkie I am more than happy to post one but it
should be really easy to find.

I just searched for ‘Say What game’ and several hits came up.

Cheers!

The balls represent words or phrases and you have to remember the
sentence and try to put the correc balls in each slot. Pretty cool and
we all enjoyed it. If the link is still in working order somebody did
a podcast of It on BlindCoolTech. That is where I heard of it and went
out and got it. What ashamed Larry and his crew aren't doing anymore
podcasts that was my favorite site to visit regularly and learn. I
especially enjoyed the soundseeing tours he and his girlfriend Liz
often did. I don't have it in my possession anymore though. It should
still be made. Let me know if you find it I'd like to get it again!
There are very few off the shelf games for us.

You are given a phrase which is out of order and you need to
rearrange it
within a given time limit. You do this by removing physical balls
from the
game itself and then replacing them back in the order you choose.

Each ball represents a word or part of the phrase and yes, the game
does
speak the phrase that you have created by moving the balls around.

So it is pretty funny when you mess it up. (as you are very likely
to do at
least once in a session)

I am not sure if the game is still made but I believe it is.

To Marty’s question, as you probably already know, there are ‘Say
What’ type
games on the App Store, but I do not know whether they are
accessible or
not.

Have a great night All!

hello all,
this is a very much half formed idea at the moment, but thought I would throe
it out there to see what people think.
the idea I had, was for a horse riding game, where the back story is, that
whilst on holiday, you decide to hire a horse and check out the countryside,
unfortunately however, the only horse hire business in the area, is run by a
rather grumpy and sadistic individual, (possibly called sadistic Stacy) who
only really likes 3 things in life, her horses, sitting around watching tv, and
having a nice full cash till. 5 things she really hates, are customers,
receiving complaints, having horses come back in poor condition, riders coming
back late, and having to get off of her behind to go collect a horse and rider.
as you are on holiday, you only have a certain budget to spend, which would
normally get you a number of rides, but received complaints, injuries to the
horse, coming back late, and having to be collected, will all cost extra. even
more unfortunately for you, (as in real life sometimes), the countryside is
full of mean spirited individuals, such as farmers who will complain to St
acy if you damage too much of there crops, or scare there sheep. you can avoid
them by sticking to the roads, but then you will have delivery van, and truck
drivers, who will have to slow down for you if you don't, or can't pull over in
time, and they will also complain to Stacy about this. there are also idiot
motorbikers on the roads, some of who will also complain about you slowing them
down, but some of whom will just belt past you, scaring your horse, which could
cause it to go haring off in to a field of crops or sheep, either damaging, or
scaring the hell out of them. some other fields have bulls in them, who will
not be happy to see you, and may come after you if you spend too long in there
fields, if they catch you and collide with your horse, this will cause the
horse an injury. there are also sometimes loose dogs that will think it is fun
to chase your horse, and bite it if they catch it.
there are some decent horse tracks, which one can canter or gallop on, useful
for out pacing the dogs, or making up time. there are also very muddy tracks,
which may cause your horse to slip and fall if you go up them too fast.
there could be some streams that need to be jumped, either as short cuts, or
again, good for shaking off the dogs.
the bull fields could have electric fences, which an idea could be that you
need to lure the bull in to it, which will discourage it from chancing you any
more, with out your horse hitting the fence. another possibility is that some
better horses may be able to jump the fences, where as the bull would slam
headlong in to the fence.
some of the roads have good verges which you can pull the horse over on when
required, but some of them have ditches, so that you can't pull over with out
causing your horse to slip and fall in to them, causing an injury. some of the
ditches, which could be along side roads, tracks, or fields, also may have fly
tipped loose plastic sheeting in, which will flap around in the wind, and scare
your horse, causing it to run off somewhere else, as mentioned earlier. you can
only go at a walk or trot on the roads, as going any faster on them will cause
the horse an injury owing to the harder surface.
there could also be pig pens, on the corners of some roads or tracks, which
need to be avoided by going to the other side of the road or track, as passing
too close to these will also scare the horse, (strange but true fact, horses
really don't like pigs).
you can only go at walk if you need to cut through a sheep field, as going any
faster will scare the sheep, leading to a complaint, possibly unless you can
exit that field in time, before the farmer notices you. the same could be the
case if you end up in a field of crops, if you can get out of it in time, the
farmer may not notice you, so won't complain.
there could be a few sorts of game, one could be a timed one,
another could be where you just have to get round the rout with as fewer
complaints and horse injuries as possible,
and a third could be a see how long you can keep riding for before you rack up
too many complaints and/or injuries.
some other possibilities for variables could include:
spending more of your budget for a better horse, which could be less prone to
scares, better able to jump the fences, keep it's footing better on the muddy
tracks (meaning that you can go a bit faster on them), and/or could just go
faster in general.
doing this however, will mean that you won't get so many rides for your budget,
and will have less of it available for the fines for

About this project
Photos of each die
Photos of each die

Photos of each die

We intend to create a high quality set of 3D printed Polyhedral Dice

with a brand new 3d printer. These dice will be usable with a wide

variety of RPG games
and would be both functional for blind players and a great novelty

item for sighted RPG players interested in being inclusive.

We've printed sample models using the model that we're looking at

buying and we're pretty happy with the way they turned out.

We have already shown we are committed and capable of helping the

blind community join gaming with our last
Kickstarter
that let us open our
store.

What we need now is enough capital to make our dream of doing the same

for RPG dice come true.

But if you don't trust me, here's video of with a blind person trying

them for the for the first time.

embed/khJf863lvqQ frame
embed/khJf863lvqQ frame end

What about stretch goals?

We wanted to limit the number of dice as rewards because our 3d

printer can only do so much so fast so our planned stretch goals are

for other devices so
we could produce other things concurrently instead of backing up the

line.

Our first one is to get a CNC router at $5000. When we reach this

level all backers of full sets of dice will receive their choice of a

free Blind Meeple
or d20 dice bag with their pledge.

The CNC router will let us add what we are calling a Tactile Tactic

Grid. This is a 12 inch by 12 inch wooden grid with raised lines. This

would allow blind
players to do tactical play of games like DnD or Pathfinder without

worry of knocking over the pieces. These pieces fit together allowing

players to build
bigger grids that can break down easily.

Tactile grid for RPG games render
Tactile grid for RPG games render

Additionally it let us add a new reward level for a wooden or plastic

version of the game
YOINK
(we will have to decide AFTER the Kickstarter what material makes the

best game when we can try it) that we did for our first Kickstarter

and braille puzzle
piece blocks which teachers can fit together to teach dot locations.

Early Render of Yoink
Early Render of Yoink

Early Render of Yoink

If we reach that we have other ideas as well. Any funds beyond what is

needed for the printer will be going back into the company to offer

more games and
get more tools to make more products.

We are also interested in other suggestions for dice that we could add

to the project such as fudge dice for RPGs that use them or other

ideas.

We also have social stretch goals that are shown below.

What is with the tiers?

3D printing takes a long time. We wanted to make sure we weren't

expected to ship out all of the materials at the same time so we

divided the rewards into
tiers with different delivery months to make it more manageable. We

will be trying to produce the dice in roughly backing order and ship

them out as soon
as they are done. Since we are manufacturing in house that means we'll

start shipping rewards as soon as we get the printer ordered and

working.

Also you will notice that the tiers are limited. We didn't want to

super fund and have to make thousands of dice if somehow this went

really viral. If you
miss the Kickstarter we will of course have these available at
our store

but that will only be after all the Kickstarter dice are produced.

Re: [Audyssey] Alter-Aeon

2015-12-02 Thread Devin Prater
My biggest problem with AlterAeon was that it wasn't much like a game. I mean,
you hopped on, killed some monsters, did a few quests if you could find some,
and that's it. Sure, exploring was interesting at times, if not a little better
than most MUD games, since there were fewer spelling errors--even avalon has
those--but combat is boring and wasn't so immaginative in its text. I admit,
most text-based games aren't, but I'd love to find an MUD where there is oth
more colorfully written combat text, and time to read that text. Anyways, the
lack of any sort of RP made the game, to me, to be more like a hangout spot
with a few more things to do than any little treehouse. Just my oppinion though.

Re: [Audyssey] Portable interactive fiction game playing device/unit

2015-12-02 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi John, as I’d mentioned in my last note to Dennis, it is possible to simulate
positional audio in a 3D virtual environment in software without the need for
more than two speakers.

So honestly, I see no reason that 3D audio may not be possible on something
like the Pie, provided it can run an appropriate audio engine.

Have a great night!

Cheers!

I can't think of any that require it, meaning that, presuming they ran on
Linux which most don't right now, there shouldn't really be a problem with
that either.

A 48 khz sampling rate has nothing to do with audio quality. Lack of
surround sound is probably pretty big though.

Remember, Vipmud doesn't have nvda direct support currently, though it's

The other issue I have mentioned previously is being completely lost once

make navigation easier. The first tool that is available is a list of all
unfinished quests and their location. Alter does have a list of quests but
figuring out where they are on the mainland can be quite difficult. The next
tool that we have access to is a reference to how to get to any important
realm, town, or large city. This has a further benefit of assisting me to
understand how the world is laid out as well as the obvious one of knowing
where locations are on a day to day basis. The final thing that has been done
is to make all dungeons on a grid using only the four cardinal directions. This
is really useful because it allows people to make maps using Excel
spreadsheets. As far as I know, maps can be made in MushZ however, there is no
way to actua

lly explore these maps like you can in Excel.

I think having a list of quests and where to access them, a list of fame mobs
and where you access them, and directions to places in the Alter Aeon world
would be incredibly useful! After all, just because you know where a quest or
mob is doesn't mean you have the strategies to complete or beat it.Maybe these
resources exist and I just don't know about them and if this is the case I
apologize. As for asking other players for help, I find most people hoard
information and only really want to help out those in their clan.

I think that Alter is a lot of fun and there is a lot to do and discover.
Unfortunately due to the player/clan culture as well as not having the
resources available to find quests, important mobs, and locations people who
have trouble understanding and retaining spacial information are missing out.

experience. It's been two years since druid was added, and the amount

Re: [Audyssey] Alter-Aeon

2015-12-02 Thread Justin Jones
That is a rather odd way to allow druids to earn more experience,
especially given how long it can take to charge higher level
lightcatchers. Also, Druids used to have a means to earn lots of
experience: through carving. I do not remember which change it was,
but carving experience, as a whole, took a major hit (unless I do not
understand how the mechanic works).

Re: [Audyssey] Alter-Aeon

2015-12-02 Thread john
I'm not sure whether this matters when looking at the numbers, but
lightcatcher carving xp dents incredibly quickly - to a degree that probably
prevents it from doing what you want (half a cap to 5k in less than half a
catcher). I may be completely wrong here, especially if it comes back
quickly, but figured I'd throw this out there just in case.
On the other hand, rune carving xp is awesome.

[Audyssey] Alter Aeon and finding things

2015-12-02 Thread Jeremy Brown
Grace,

As to players not giving out info, that's possible, though it doesn't
seem to be nearly as common as it once was. However, I'll freely
admit, I like to encourage people to explore myself.

However, that said, there's a number of ways to handle your navigation issues:

1. One friend of mine writes down notes about where he is whenever he
accepts a quest and what the text of the quest is so he knows where to
go back.

2. Alter does have a coordinate system. While i'ts not super useful
for every situation, it can give general ideas of where areas are. If
a quest gives a location you think you recognize, looking in the area
list for that area name and is coordinates can at least give a general
direction.

3. Asking people where a specific mob or town is usually gets results
or at least a general direction.

4. You can map A.A. on excel, but you just have to take into account
that room sizes vary a lot. A far better way that I found was to use
a series of directions (something like the speed walk instructions on
aardwolf) but include landmarks. So something like this: go all west
from Ralnoth until you encounter a biomantically enhanced tree, go
around the tree to the north or south and get back on an east west
line til you see a lamp post. Then go south and trend west til you're
on a fading road. Go all west then north then one east and you're 1
room south of the green dragon.

Landmarks, the nearby command, the various map commands map -old, map
-explored, map -blind, all help as does the coordinate system. No one
of them is perfect, but combined they can make a powerful set of ways
to find places again.

Lastly, you can if you have people who are interested in it form
direction maps to areas. My clan actually did this, then the mud map
changed significantly. We started again, and while it's an ongoing
and frustrating process (the map keeps changing:)) it does help.

I hope that helps,

Jeremy

Re: [Audyssey] Alter-Aeon

2015-12-02 Thread Grace

Hi Dar,
It's Sryth which although it isn't a Mud has some fantastic tools for
navigating which were created as far as I have been lead to believe from
dialogues between the Game Master and players.

thought I knew most muds with access fixes, aardwolf, materiamagica,
discworld etc, but I don't recognize that one. or is it a web based
game like Sryth?

I used to really like being able to get a lot of experience carving
on equipment or just random things I found around the game. It was
good to be able to go down to the troll caves and pick up heaps of
human heads, drag them back to a location, and carve on them while
having conversations with my clan mates or just other Alter players
in general. I find that myself and others are a lot less social now
that carving items isn't really worth doing experience wise. I cannot
participate in conversations while navigating around the world or
keeping track of what is going on in battles.

The other issue I have mentioned previously is being completely lost
once transitioning to the mainland. I have recently gone back to
playing another role playing game with a big world and lots of quests
that does a few things to make navigation easier. The first tool that
is available is a list of all unfinished quests and their location.
Alter does have a list of quests but figuring out where they are on
the mainland can be quite difficult. The next tool that we have
access to is a reference to how to get to any important realm, town,
or large city. This has a further benefit of assisting me to
understand how the world is laid out as well as the obvious one of
knowing where locations are on a day to day basis. The final thing
that has been done is to make all dungeons on a grid using only the
four cardinal directions. This is really useful because it allows
people to make maps using Excel spreadsheets. As far as I know, maps
can be made in MushZ however, there is no way to actually explore
these maps like you can in Excel.
I think having a list of quests and where to access them, a list of
fame mobs and where you access them, and directions to places in the
Alter Aeon world would be incredibly useful! After all, just because
you know where a quest or mob is doesn't mean you have the strategies
to complete or beat it.Maybe these resources exist and I just don't
know about them and if this is the case I apologize. As for asking
other players for help, I find most people hoard information and only
really want to help out those in their clan.

I think that Alter is a lot of fun and there is a lot to do and
discover. Unfortunately due to the player/clan culture as well as not
having the resources available to find quests, important mobs, and
locations people who have trouble understanding and retaining spacial
information are missing out.

Kind regards,

Grace

Take, for instance, the change where lightcatchers will now have a

to make this adjustment? There is no call to do this?

Re: [Audyssey] Alter Aeon and finding things

2015-12-02 Thread Grace

Hi Jeremy,

See comments in-line.

Grace,

As to players not giving out info, that's possible, though it doesn't
seem to be nearly as common as it once was. However, I'll freely
admit, I like to encourage people to explore myself.

However, that said, there's a number of ways to handle your navigation
issues

1. One friend of mine writes down notes about where he is whenever he
accepts a quest and what the text of the quest is so he knows where to
go back.

Having to make and then scroll through heaps of notes can be very time
consuming. If more comprehensive information were provided this would
not be necisary.

2. Alter does have a coordinate system. While i'ts not super useful
for every situation, it can give general ideas of where areas are. If
a quest gives a location you think you recognize, looking in the area
list for that area name and is coordinates can at least give a general
direction.
Not all areas are findable via this method. Also coordinates will give
you a very very general idea and you may just end up wandering around
in circles chasing your tail.

3. Asking people where a specific mob or town is usually gets results
or at least a general direction.
I'd say you get useful results about half the time. Otherwise you get
people telling you that you should explore which is very disheartening
if that is what you have been doing for the past half hour. Telling
someone to explore is not providing helpful information. The less
condescending thing to do is to not say anything at all.

4. You can map A.A. on excel, but you just have to take into account
that room sizes vary a lot. A far better way that I found was to use
a series of directions (something like the speed walk instructions on
aardwolf) but include landmarks. So something like this go all west
from Ralnoth until you encounter a biomantically enhanced tree, go
around the tree to the north or south and get back on an east west
line til you see a lamp post. Then go south and trend west til you're
on a fading road. Go all west then north then one east and you're 1
room south of the green dragon.
The directions above would be exactly the type of instructions
required in a tool giving directions between areas on Alter. These
directions would not work in an explorable dungion which is where
being able to create maps would be useful.

Landmarks, the nearby command, the various map commands map -old, map
-explored, map -blind, all help as does the coordinate system. No one
of them is perfect, but combined they can make a powerful set of ways
to find places again.
Having a few simplified tools for navigating would provide a much more
streamlined less frustrating user experience.

Lastly, you can if you have people who are interested in it form
direction maps to areas. My clan actually did this, then the mud map
changed significantly. We started again, and while it's an ongoing
and frustrating process (the map keeps changing)) it does help.
This is the issue with the clan system. Information is kept within a
small group of people and not shared with the wider community.

I hope that helps,

Jeremy
