No problem. One thing that I forgot to add which will be increasingly
handy in future levels is that the waves from the slime will damage the
cruiser. So keeping yourself between the slime and the cruiser without
getting in the way of either can actually work in your favor. Once there
are multiple enemies firing projectiles, you will often find that enemies
have killed each other without you having to do anything, which can be
quite handy.

Hi,
Stage 1-4 takes time. What I'd recommend is run close to the slime, wait
for it to stop moving, jump the water wave and bash at it with your
hammer. If it starts moving, stay out of its way, jump the water again,
and repeat. As for the cruiser, it is possible to destroy it with the
hammer, but it's simpler to stand just in range with the slingshot and
pummel it. Whichever weapon you use, both enemies will take a fair bit
to destroy.

[Audyssey] OT kind of, Entombed discussion group on googlegroups

2012-06-15 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Hi, since the beginning of the moth, the entombed group on google groups is
well, different. I used to be able to hit an internet shortcut link and bingo,
I could search the archives for topics on the game. Now, there is only one
search box, and if I type something into it, and hit enter, it searches google
iteself, not the entombed group.

Any suggestions on as to searching the entombed archives?

[Audyssey] Entombed googlegroup has changed

2012-06-12 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Hi, anyone with a membership to a googlegroup might want to try and figure out
what google did to streamline their groups site. When I first joined the
entombed group, I could just click on the favorite I created for that
googlegroup page and I could start searching for help in the entombed game,
because the page was only about the entombed game. Well, now, it takes you to
the google gropus page, and I can't figure out how to get to the entombed page.
There is a little hint for screen reader users to turn off something, which I
did, but whatever. It was fun while it lasted.

Subject: [Audyssey] Rules for Dungeon board game

Hi all,
Haven't been on the list for a while but I thought this might be
interesting to anyone on the list who either has played this game before,
or was thinking that it might (hopefully) make a decent audio game of some
kind.

Below is the send space link to the rules for an old classic game called
Dungeon! by TSR.
Essentially up to six layers use heros to wander around a dungeon,
fighting monsters and gathering treasure and magic items. The rules
include two versions of the game, the basic and expert. In the basic
everyone is the same, and requires 20,000 gp to win the game.
In the expert version, the players choose between warrior, wizard, thief,
paladin, dwarf and elf. Each has it's own pros and cons and these may also
ambush each other, or work cooperatively to fight strong monsters.

My hope is that someone would read thru the rules and discover that it
can be made into an audio game.

The link for downloading the .rtf file is below.

hi all,

well i don't know if this type of thread will generate any interest but i
thought that i would throw this out there.

there are games out there, either online or stand alone that keep us
coming back whether it be on a constant basis or whether we play them for
a while, put them down, then pick them up after a break.

so i was just wondering what games for you fall into this category and
why? list as many games as you like. i'll start.

well right now i'm going to mention 1 game just to get this started. the
game i am going to mention is core exiles, which can be found at
http://www.core-exiles.com

i have been playing this game now on and off since november 2009. i
personally love it. the reasons why are the same reasons that keep me
coming back. in no particular order:

1. completely persistent. the game does not end in any way, shape or form.
there's no rounds, no reset, you can keep playing and expanding as you
wish.
2. no right or wrong way to play. in this game there are just so many
paths you can take! each obviously has it's own plus and minus sides but
the point is that you can build your character and go down any pathway
that you like.
3. progression through reward. this is a game that keeps you wanting to
play. even after nearly 3 years of playing with the same account i haven't
unlocked every single piece of technology currently available in the game.
4. awesome community. people care about each other on the game. i'll give
you an example, because i hadn't been on the game in a few months, someone
in the game that knows me emailed me through the guild forums that i
belong too, just to find out if i was ok.
5. the game is like a book. like i said before, there is no reset. if you
are a free game player, then your account if left inactive will remain so
for 180 days.
6. no massive game advantages between paid and free players. this is
probably 1 of the best things i love about this game. yes there are of
course advantages to having a paid account, there would have to be in
order for people to buy it but the point is that it won't put you above
the free players.

well they are the most important points of the game.

HI,

If you are already on the 2nd floor when you try to use the cheat, since
the

floor has changed the period and comma key won't work. But does the slash
key tell you what unexplored spaces there are? If so, then use this to
find

the stairs.

if you are coming up from town, and you stand in the stairway down, go to
thru a door and come back into the room. Hopefully this should reset the
period key to the stairway down.

Good luck.

Re: [Audyssey] Entombed dissappearingstariwellsafterusingarmycheaton v 1.02K

2012-05-30 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
That's true. I got stuck on the 8th floor, and orbed back to town, and then
went up to the 2nd floor, and did the army cheat. But, then, the stairwell
on the 2nd floor going down, and up, disappeared. Meaning, when I hit the
period or comma keys, I got the number of steps and the directions to find
the up or down stairwells, but when I reached them, and hit the
corresponding key to either go up or down, the stairwell was not there. So,
I had to restart the game with a brankd new level 1 character and do the
whole thing over.

HI,

Not entirely true. You can be on the 6th floor, use the orb to go to town,
walk up to the 1st floor, and orb back to the 6th floor, you don't need to
return to town before using it.

So in Keith's case. If he was on the 4th floor, and orbed back to town.
Went

up to the 2nd floor and tried the army cheat, the orb is still attached to
the 4th floor as far as I know. So if he pressed f1 he would then be back
on

the 4th floor and would not need the stairs.

Make sense?

HTH.

Good luck.

[Audyssey] Entombed mangled limb question

2012-05-30 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Hi, I noticed that when I have a character get a limb mangled in battle, I can
use a healing potion to fix the limb. But, if I run out of potions I am
screwed. I did max out a healer's heal ability to level 5, but that seems to
only heal character's health points, not repair a mangled limb. I know the
difference between a mangled limb and a detached limb, as if the limb was cut
or bitten off. I think this would be a good change for the game if Jason put
either a new special ability for the healer that would repair mangled limbs, or
associate that power with the heal ability, at level 5.

Just my thoughts.

Hi Keith,

SPQ? There is no such program. You mean Microsoft SQL?

If you removed Microsoft SQL that would be a big reason for Entombed to
crash. You need the Microsoft SQL database engine in order to handle the
Entombed database. If you removed it you need to reinstall it to play
Entombed.

[Audyssey] OT kind of entombed .et update problem in Windows xp

2012-05-22 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
I have taken the advice of the list members and installed the SQL server on my
windows xp sp 3 machine.
Now, Windows Update tells me that there are 3 security updates to the .net
framework. I have had automatic update turned on and set to download and
notify me of updates. I have gone to the sys tray and clicked install for
these 3 updates. It runs, and says that the system is updated successfully.
If I wait a few minutes after restarting my machine, the same 3 updates are
listed as having been downloaded and are ready for installation. I have
checked the Windows Update update history for my computer, and all 3 times I
have installed these 3 updates it says successful installation (for a total of
3 successful installations of 3 seperate updates). I was told that Entombed
requires SQL to be installed, and now I still can't play the 1.05B version and
the 1.02 still is giving me problems with the bizarre.

Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the redundancy of
this entombed issue. I just don't know what to do and I spent the 40 bucks for
the full version of the game and want the full functionality of the 1.02
version, if not the 1.05 B version to play.

Thanks, and once again, sorry.

[Audyssey] Entombed, what is the point of the bizarre?!!

2012-05-21 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Hi Entombed players,

Okay, I know I've asked bout the bizarre in the Twilight Town, but it is really
starting to get on my nerves. Every time I try to sell something, it tells me
that I cannot place that item up for sale. Then, when I try to buy something,
(I have no trade coins, an exchange rate would be nice to convert gold coins to
trade coins, for a price of course, a merchant has to make a profit after all,
right?). Anyway, I try to see if there are any items from a specific category,
and I get that exception window that pops up and has the details button, a
continue button, and a cancel button. If I click on details, it crasshes the
game, and drops me to the desktop. If I click cancel, it does the same thing.
If I click continue, it just brings me back to the bizarre window.

If this interaction with the game requires me to connect to the internet, and
I am patched into the internet with an ethernet cable, why am I getting this
error, every time I try to use the bizarre?

I'm figuring I should just ignore the bizarre, and try to tromp through the
dungeon until the items in the general store change. But, it seems that the
monsters are a lot more difficult than I remember them being on level 5. I am
in massive need of hearling potions to hearl mangled limbs. Nothing is worse
than trying to fight with two mangled hands.

Hi Keith,

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question about the error message, but
it sounds to me like there is a bug in the game dealing with the bizarre.
For that I suggest asking Jason if he can shed some light on the error
message.

However, as far as difficulty goes it does tend to get more and more
difficult each level you reach requiring stronger and more powerful
weapons and armor. Plus given the random nature of the game I've found
one time I will blitz through a level one game and end up getting pounded
the next time. So there is no certainty of successfully getting through
the same level the same way twice.

2.5 is the latest just now.
However I think aprone said a couple days ago that the server will be
going up and down when time permits as he is doing a hardware upgrade as
well as other things.

so hopefully we will get a bigger experience.

http://www.blind-games.com/newentombed/EntombedSetup.exe

The 1.02K version can be downloaded from the main site. it may say version
I, but it really is K.

Keith, what vbersion are you currently trying to run? And on what
operating
system? Knowing this might be of asistance to help you with these
problems.

Still having difficulties, be sure to contact Jason directly for
assistance.

really starting to get on my nerves. Every time I try to sell something,
it

Are you getting any type of message with those items you cannot put up for
sale? Such as magical properties are too large blah blah blah. If so, try
to

put the item on and take it off. For some reason items do this and putting
on and taking it back off seems to fix it. Especially if it was previously
worn by a skeleton.

Begin quote.

Then, when I try to buy something, (I have no trade coins, an exchange

would be nice to convert gold coins to trade coins, for a price of course,
a

merchant has to make a profit after all, right?).

end quote.

Sorry, no conversion is necessary or warranted. Just keep putting up items
that anyone would buy and you will soon have more tc than you need. it
might
take some time though. Magical items seem to sell better than others. But
a

really good weapon will sell fairly quickly. As long as it wasn't found on
the floors below 20. Those items don't sell very well. Excellent and
legendary weapons can be an exception to this. Find something really good
to

sell, save your game. Go to town and put it up for sale. then reload the
game. You will have it up for sale and still have it to use. Of course
this
is if you even need such an item. And then wehn it sells, put it back up
for

sale to sell again. Sell really good items multiple times.

begin quote.

Anyway, I try to see if there are any items from a specific category, and
I

get that exception window that pops up and has the details button, a
continue button, and a cancel button. If I click on details, it crasshes
the

game, and drops me to the desktop. If I click cancel, it does the same
thing. If I click continue, it just brings me back to the bizarre window.

end quote.

Really strange. I occasionally get this, but not all the time. Just keep
trying to continue and see if you get around this.

Begin quote.

If this interaction with the game requires me to connect to the
internet,
and I am patched into the internet with an ethernet cable, why am I
getting

this error, every time I try to use the bizarre?

end quote.

Yes, you must be connected to the internet to interact with twilight town.
Why you are having this difficulty I am not sure of.

begin quote.

I'm figuring I should just ignore the bizarre, and try to tromp through
the
dungeon until the items in the general store change. But, it seems that
the

monsters are a lot more difficult than I remember them being on level 5. I
am in massive need of hearling potions to hearl mangled limbs. Nothing is
worse than trying to fight with two mangled hands.

end quote.

yep, nothing worse. Unless your character is magical then its not so bad.
But avoiding town would not be a good idea. You get some needed potions
and

scrolls from the general store. And well needed armor and weapons from the
bazaar.

Good luck.

If you need additional help, feel free to contact me off list. or don't
forget about the entombed group on yahoo groups. Could really get some
good

advice and assistance there.

HI Keith,

Again, strange. You said you are playing this on an xp system. AS Thomas
wrote, make sure you have all your updates installed. This would make sure
your .net frameworks and other dependencies are installed.

Also download and install the game from the downloaded file if you haven't
done that already.

Also if you need to, try removing all parts of any installed entombed and
then run the installer for 1.05B an see if that makes a difference.

And give Jason a day or 2 to get back to you. He works plus is half way
around the world.

Also join the entombed group on yahoo groups. I am sure that someone there
can help you with this. Most people experiencing problems with the latest
version was due to the SQL compact files on win 7 system because some are
32

bit, and others are 64, and the installer could not determine which to
install. If you are running xp 64 bit, then that is a different horse of a
different color. Just let us know.

[Audyssey] Entombed monk job questions

2012-05-20 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Hey everyone,

In entombed, the monk basically can start a battle with the focus skill When
you use that talent in combat, other skills are opened up for that battle. My
question is when I am allotting skill points, does the iron skin skilll
automatically start in a battle, or is it something I am missing? Basically, I
am asking if the iron skill is always on so to speak.

Thanks

[Audyssey] Entombed update

2012-05-19 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
I downloaded the full installation update and ran it, and now I have to get
full game from the main menu. I had set up an account when i first started
playing the free version, but it can't find my user ID and password on the
server...it tells me that I can use the paypal receipt number and I put that in
the edit box, but it still tells me that my account cannot be found.

Anyone have a clue as to what is wrong? Do I have to pay the $40.00 again to
get another full version?

[Audyssey] Entombed bizarre

2012-05-19 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Is there any way to find out how much gold i am carryig in entombed when in the
gernal store or the bizarre?

And, on that note, in the dungeons, I sometimes enter a room through a door and
it says something about a weapons emporium, kobold run or something like that.
Is this important, or just some sort of landmark in the game. I've come across
a couple of these in the dungeons.

[Audyssey] Entombed questions - spoilers

2012-05-18 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Spoiler within...

I purchased the full version of Entombed and noticed that when i get to
Twilight Town, the bizarre is now accessible. I do not understand it though.
It lists the objects i own, and have a certain number of something called trade
coins. When I click on one object, it seems that internet explorer opens and I
get an error message. Not sure what the BBizarre is and what it can do for me.

Second, when I was first playing the free version, I had access to the human,
ogre, elf, half and half elf races. Then, during one adventure, I found
something called a Goblin card, after i killed a goblin mage. When I was
killed, I started a new game, and I was given the option of making a goblin
character. Does this apply to all other races in the game, like the gnoll and
the kobold?

When in the Twilight general store, I sometimes come across scrolls with spells
on them that are not available to the open jobs I have access to to start with.
Namely, Spark, dark light (or something like that), mystify, etc. Are these
spells associated with jobs that I have to find access to by playing the game
though?

The first time I reached Twilight Town, after killing the wolves trying to get
into the town, I gained access to some sort of orb from a dead guard. It does
not come up after I was killed and started a new game. It says something about
needing to be charged, and then it will teleport me back to town. Do I have to
find the thing again?

Thanks

The bazaar is a place where you can buy or sell armor or weapons, You
purchase said items with trade coins. Trade coins only work in the bazaar.
The general store uses gold coins, so don't get them confused. You have 10
slots in which to sell items. A good idea is to keep them as full as
possible. Every now and then, when the bazaar gets full, Jason will clean
it
out of those items that have been for sale for a long time and give you
the

tc for them. You can only purchase those items found in the floor you are
currently on, and above. So if you are on floor 5, you cannot get a item
that was found on floor 6. So look back often, probably every floor just
to

find those items to get your characters even more buff. One note, the
message option has never worked so don't even try it.

Also, what version are you running? And does the option for details,
continue or quit come up? If so, press alt C to continue. sometimes
connecting to the bazaar might get a small hickup and come up with this
dialog box.

There are only 5 unlockable cards in the game. You found one that unlocked

No. All scrolls found or bought can be used by any character of yours you
control when the time is appropriate. If out of battle, your primary
character will cast the scroll. Some scrolls cannot be cast outside of
combat. Some can be cast either in or out of combat. Keep in mind that the
effectiveness of a scroll is determined by intelligence. The higher the
intelligence, the greater the spell will work or last. There are currently
2

scrolls that do nothing because you cannot use them. They are blizzard and
ray of destruction. So if you find them, sell them. And no need to buy
them

from any store you come across.

No. The orb is automatically yours when you kill the wolves. it will also
not show up on any inventory list, it is just there. you use the orb to
transport you back to twilight town from anywhere in the dungeon. when
done

in town, just press the f1 key again to put you back to the place you used
the orb from. You cannot use the orb until it recharges, and the game will
tell you that. Really comes in handy when you get to the lower floors
instead of tromping back up multiple stairs and then back again. Many
times

I will use the orb to go to town after clearing a floor to sell off what I
collected. Or just after getting to a new floor to go to town to se what
new

items the general store has for sale. Reminder, the general store only
stocks items every 3 floors. So if you go in there after completing the
2nd

floor, it will not stock new items until the 5th floor, 8th floor, 11th
floor, and so on. But if you miss a floor, it will be 3 floors from there.

[Audyssey] Entombed health question, kind of confused

2012-05-17 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Well, I purchased the full game of entombed. Boy, was I missing out on a lot
with the free version!

Anyway, I started a game and have aquired 2 more characters besides my created
character and his pet, Barky Von Schnauser. Anyway, one of the characters got
injured during a battle and I rested the party. Everyone healed except the
ratkin mage in my party. Her hit points have a max of 114, but only 110
healed. under that, it announces that she is slightly injured. So, I used a
healing potion on her. Nothing happened. The extra 4 hit points are still
missing. And when somone is injured, the game will announce what part of the
body is injured. Nothing is read off for her.

Any ideas of why this is happening?

Hey, I copied the contents of the Entombed folder to another portion of my
drive, and then started a new game with a new character. I got bored, so I
copied the original info back into the entombed folder under program files.
But, the game started with my most recent character, not the one I had backed
up (if that makes any sense). Are the info files for saved games saved
somewhere else, or am I just trying to find a back door that isn't there, so to

2012-05-14 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
a lifesaver is a round flat candy that is fruit flavored with a hole in the
middle of it. Supposedly, the creator's kid choked on a piece of candy, so
he put the hole in it so if it got stuck in a throat, the person could still
breath with it in there until they got the the hopsital. And I wish I could
figure out how to pay for the full edition. For some reason, when i try and
pay for it from the driftwood site, my credit card bank denies the payment.
It's all payed up and I have credit avilable, but I have tried a bunch of
times and it just tells me that the bank has rejected the transaction.
Guess I'll have to stick with the free version.

Thanks

Keith

P.S. I've made a couple of necromancers, and in the skills section, it says
that they can use swords. But when i get my hands on one, I can't equip it.
Don't know why. So I settle on freezing everything and let my pet and
anything I reanimate do the heavy fighting.

Hi Kieth.

Firstly, I didn't mean wikipedia, I mean the entombed online manual that
is written in wiki format. You can find it at

It's by no means complete, but does have a general key list.

As regards other matters in the game, the tab key will let you switch

As to the map, it's simpler than you might think. just hit the slash key
to get directions to the nearest unexplored space, the period key to get
directions to the up staircase, and once you have found it, the comma to
get directions to the down staircase, - though note it's probably
worth checking the hole floor out for experience before going down.

Other important keys are c, which when used in inventory or indeed the
shop brings up a compare menue to compare the item to what your party
has equipped of that item type, x to examine, and the number keys 1-8
which targit different areas of the body in battle.

hth.

Seeing this makes me want to finish my entombed handbook project, i'll
see what I can do about getting that done.

All the best,

Hi, Dark was good enough to tell me how to use skill points to up my

you can hit the shift key to pretty much access everything, the E key

Also, sometimes I save another person in the game, and then I have

[Audyssey] What I love about entombed

2012-05-14 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
What I really love about entombed is that it allows a player to choose which
skills to increase when you go up in levels. It's a lot like Diablo (for
the sighted) in that fashion. And I like that you can choose a race and
then a job, like in the paper and pencil dungeons and dragons type games.

Right now I'm slugging though with a necromancer, who rased another
necromancer, and my main character has a level 5 ice storm spell. Talk
about putting on the hurt.
One more question though. Is there a way to dismiss a character that
joins your party? I've got a fairy trickster that really can't do anything
but cast a few spells that I'm not finding that accomodating to my whims, if
you will. I mean, I could just turn on him, but then I run the risk of
dying and creating a new character and running into this guy again.

Also, when you save a game, does the entombed program only save one game.
meaning, if I crate another character to play with, and then save it, will
it erase the one I had running before?

Hi Keith,

Dark was talking about the Entombed Wiki on the Driftwood website. The
same place where you downloaded the game. Not Wikipedia or another big
name Wiki like that. :D

Hi Keith,

As far as I know you can only save games pertaining to your current
character/characters. If you start a new game with a different party your
old game is wiped out. However, if you want to you can simply back up
your saved games and if you want to play them again copy them back into
your saved games folder.

Now, as for dropping or dismissing party members you can't do that. Part
of the strategy in Entombed is being able to make the most out of what
you have. If you have a fairy then its up to you to figure how to make
him or her effective. While fairies don't seem like a big asset at first
they actually can be a big help once you improve their charm skills etc.
They are very fast so get multiple attacks, and when they have their
skills fully trained can really put a hurt on the bad guys. Its just
getting their skills trained up to a level that is effective that is the
problem. Its a case of initial impressions are deceiving, and I wouldn't
write your fairy off as a complete wimp at this point.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] 2 question about entombed...

2012-05-14 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Hey guys,

2 question about entombed. First, I have come across some items that have
flaming or sky in the name. When I do an examination of the item, it says that
it is related to that elemental force. Does this help if lets say, a weapon is
flaming, meaning fire related, and an opponent is more effected by fire?

Second question, one of my party members has been killed. Is there a way to
ressurect that character? I know you can dump the body, or sell it off in
Twilight Town, which I have found better than leaving a former party member in
the dungeon, because they have a tendency to reanimate and kick my butt for
leaving them down there. (smiles)

Thanks

[Audyssey] Question about Entombed game

2012-05-13 Thread Keith Stormcloud Steinbach
Hi, I recently started playing Entombed. First off, I love it. I like the
fact that you can shoose what equipment you wear, what spells to cast, etc. My
question is this. Is there a place online or in the game folder, where I can
learn more about how the game is played? And second, how do I use skill
points? I have aquired 2, but when i try and use them to advance my skills
from level 1 to 2, they don't seem to stick, so to speak.

Thanks
