Re: [Audyssey] Mush Client and Windows 7?

2012-11-10 Thread Kirstan Mooney
*Or* it might be because I am trying to install the portable version of Mush
on my new computer and have absolutely no idea where the hell Windows 7
wants me to put things, so they work. If anyone has a very simple, step by
step instructions on how to install Mush Client, so it all works like it
once did in Windows XP, I would be very grateful. This is really getting to
me!

Hi Thomas.

I don't play mud's though I should as I love text adventures, however VIP
MUD from GMA is an excellent client so I'm given to understand, so Kirsten,
you could try that and see how you get on. You can get it from GMA Games
website at www.gmagames.com and at least it will let you play freely on
Valhalla, so you can try it out and see if it is right for you.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Kirstan,

That's because the developer of the mud clients has failed to update
the mud client to meet current design standards. Its not the fault of
Microsoft but the client's developer.

For example, every operating system since Windows 2000 is suppose to
store settings and and other personal data in the user's local app
data folder. On XP the files for Mush should go in
c:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Mush 4.84
and on Windows 7 they should go in
c:\Users\User Name\App Data\Roming\Mush 4.84
which is usually pretty easy to obtain through the Windows API.
However, many developers continues saving personal files to
c:\Program Files
even when Microsoft consistently told developers to abandon the
practice and use the user's local App Data folder instead for personal
files and data.

Anyway, as of Windows Vista Microsoft added a new security service,
User Account Control, which was an attempt to give Windows Vista,
Windows 7, and Windows 8 similar security found on Mac OS and Linux by
blocking read/write access to system directories etc which could be
infected by malware like viruses and worms. Problem is Microsoft has
added the security Windows needs to help keep the OS safe from
malware, but many developers have not upgraded their software to be
User Account Control compliant for one reason or another. So we the
users have to make a choice to either disable the new security
service, or find a workaround for the problem. That's why you can't
just install a client like Mush and run it on Windows 7. Its because
the developer/developers havn't taken the time to fix their programs
to run properly on Windows 7.

As for gmud I have never tried that one. Its worth a try though. The
only way to know if it works is to try it. You know what they say,
nothing ventured nothing gained.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] An intro and a question

2012-10-25 Thread Kirstan Mooney
Hello all. My name is Kirstan and many years ago, I was a part of this
community. As time went on and as often happen, I got quite busy and didn't
have time to stay on all my lists, so unfortunately got off most of them. I
am back now and have a question which I hope, someone on here can help me
with.
I am very soon, to get a brand new, Toshiba Laptop loaded with Windows 7.
This is wonderful but has been causing me a great deal of worry. I have
played a few muds over the years, and mainly play a mud called Legend. I
have been playing it for over 10 years using a mud client called Gmud. I
know this is an old fashioned client, but it has suited my needs very well.
My question is, what mud client can I use on my new computer with the
Windows 7 loaded? I have been trying out the portable version of Mush, in
the hopes I could use this client on my new computer. today however, I
noticed it said on the forum, that you have to do all these things to get it
to run right. I really only want to install a very basic mud client on my
new computer. Please, can anyone tell me which one I should use? I have
heaps and heaps, 10 years plus worth of alias's, triggers and macros I need
to load into this new mud client, so also, it would help if the client was
an easy one to configure.
Okay, so that is enough from me for now. I look forward very much to
hearing back from some of you.
Take care.

Hi Kirstan,

Welcome back to the list. You've been away quite a while. :D

As far as running mud clients they all have the same problem on
Windows 7, and there are a couple of quick and dirty fixes for that
problem.

In Windows 7 if you have User Account Control enabled it refuses to
allow the mud client to save data to c:\Program Files and c:\Program
Files (x86) which can be a real hassle for older programs. The easiest
solution for said problem is to go to the search box in the Windows 7
Start Menu, enter UAC into the search field, press enter and it should
bring up the UAC settings dialog. Set it to 0 and reboot. This will
disable your User Account Control security, but it will allow programs
like Mush 4.84 to run correctly on Windows 7. However, as a general
rule of thumb you probably don't want to disable UAC because you are
essentially disabling part of your system security for backwards
compatibility's sake.

Now, if you want to keep UAC and run something like Mush one way to do
it is to go to the Start Menu, find the icon for the client you are
using such as Mush, and right click on the icon or press the Windows
Context Menu key. You will get a menu of options. One of them is Run
As Administrator. If you select Run As Administrator it will override
UAC for that application but will continue blocking other programs
like viruses etc which is the best way to get around UAC for older
games and other applications.

Cheers!

Thanks again Thomas. I am not sure if this is exactly appropriate or not,

can help me with one thing? I am trying to make an alias that sends a spell
I cast on any mob. Like, I want to chant vina pur ex for example, which
probably isn't a real spell but I want to direct it on any mob, how do I do
this? I have tried putting a %1 on the end, with a space first, then
without a space, but both styles result in the game just going *huh?*.
Any assistance here would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

Hello there. Yes, Legend *is* a mud. It can be found at,
 mud.legendmud.org Port
It is a really good Mud with 3 eras of time you can travel and explore in.
Ancient, Medieval and Industrial. There are lots of quests to do in the
game, lots of mobs to be killed for xp and lots of adventure and exploring
to do within the world. If you try this game, which I really hope you
 will,
please don't be afraid to ask people questions if you have any. I will be

Word is, today or tomorrow they should be back, so hopefully it will be back

I've been trying to connect to Legend Mud for the past two days, I keep

I cant even access the home page.
Anybody else have this problem?
I can connect to other muds, so I don't think the problem is on my end.
Thanks in advance.

?There are also surprise XP rooms. You need to explore around to find
them, but they are well worth finding. They honestly give you XP just for
entering them! They only give you the free XP once though, but they are
good fun to find. The other good thing in the game is, the really well run
games put on very often by the Immortals. Also, you can spend a lot of time
chatting with new people in the game. I find that a nice part of Legend
too.
Okay, hope to see everyone in Legend very soon, as I hope *I* can get back

Re: [Audyssey] Is Mudding for Me?

2008-11-29 Thread Kirstan Mooney
Hi there. How about, when you do figure out the right moves, like the right
ways to go, or anything that helps you recognise where you are, how about
writing them in Notepad, or Word or something like that? I quite often
write notes in a file in Wordpad, so I can have it open at the same time as
mudding, and add to the document or follow what I have done before.
Hope this helps.

Hey all,

Well, I've attempted to start on Discworld once again. I haven't yet,
but I was sitting at the login prompt, thinking. Ever since leaving
Alter Aeon, I've always had this problem about not memorizing where
things are where I want to go, and in the past I always asked, and
either I didn't get help, was taken there, etc, usually taken there.
The problem with that is is that people speedwalk areas when I follow
them, so it's like wo, where am I going and how do I get there? In
discworld, of course, I always used to reley on those earchans that
would take you to guilds and things. I was fine with that, but getting
back was a problem, attempting to walk anyway. I hate using the
godmother when it's such a short distance and I can walk there.

And I guess the reason I like disc is for it's complex gameplay. It's
not just some mud where you can type kill orc and watch the fight. I
just hate asking for directions to places, and going in random
directions really doesn't help me either, and I say that for all big
muds. Oh, I also like Disc because of the amount of websites and
players and the whole community.

I just find it hard to memorize something that, along the line, if
there's 14 exits in a room, leading off somewhere, which is the right
one.

Than again, it seems I have this problem with fighters and consoles
too, do a combo and five seconds later forget what I did and have to
look at the move list again.

And on Christmas, it'll probably be even worse for Rock Band because
I'll have to remember evenmore than a fighter or anything like that
lol. Yet I do good in school so it's not some mentally retarded issue
or anything, or at least I hope not...

Re: [Audyssey] vip mud

2008-11-14 Thread Kirstan Mooney
I haven't looked at Vip for a while, but one thing that *really* puts me
off, is the need of having to know a little scripting to make even the
easiest Trigger. I remember it seemed very difficult, but I sure would love
to know how, to give this client a decent go. I currently use Gmud, which
is such an easy client to make triggers, alias's and macros in. I also got
a bit lost, when I tried to figure out, if Vip could have macros too?
So, any help with these things would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: [Audyssey] a small update

So I have some good news and bad news.

Good news. Liam got a full time job writing scripts for a company.
The bad news. This leaves me with virtually no time for writing computer
games. My day looks like this.
wake up at 5. eat breakfast, and then make myself look presentable. Get in
some sort of vehicle at 7 to go to the train. get onthe trian at 7:45. Get
to the city my office is in at like 8:30. walk to the office. in any kind
of weather condition. And btw. it snows here a lot. then from 9 till 4:30
I am a slave to the corperate world. I get on the train at 5, get home at
5:45. I check email, then collapse.

I'm not exactly sure what the future will look like for LWorks. It is
possible the company may only need me part time, but.. For right now. I'm
going in on a daily basis. I will do the best I can to update existing
games, and do what I need to do. But it's goign to be rough on me. I
certainly will not close up shop. it's not fair to the people who have
supported me all these years, but I want to let everyone know what's going
on. It's only fair to keep people informed.

Liam

Re: [Audyssey] Mush Client MSP

2008-11-04 Thread Kirstan Mooney
I really agree here. I am sure Vip has the potential to be the most
excellent client, but I too struggled with it too much, to stick with it. A
tutorial would be very excellent.

Hi.

i'd personally love someone to do a basic tutorial about Vip mud, ---
something for complete Mud newbies. I tried it, but found things a litle
confusing to say the least, and I must say the manual wasn't great.

of course, this could just be me being an absolute thicko, but there are
really careful and great walkthroughs and reviews for audio games, even
complex ones like Sarah and Rail racer, so something similar for vip mud
would be great i think.

oh and yes, i heard the demo on blind cool Tech, but again, while it
showed up a bit about creating trigger or whatever, i would've liked
something more basic than that, - an intro to muds in general and vip
mud in particular.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

2008-10-24 Thread Kirstan Mooney
Okay. I can show you around a bit, so you can understand it more. Like,
there are many other ways of making Experience Points than just killing
mobs. Some of those things are good to learn and then you could maybe have
more fun looking around yourself if you know what to look for? Some of the
ways of making money are fun too. So, I will show you some of these more,
exciting things, when I see you in game.

 Hi,
That is a good question. I'd have to say two of my favorite audio
games right now are Shades of Doom by GMA Games and Sarah by PCS
Games. As far as a style I am a big fan of full FPS type games. They
are much more realistic feeling, and more like the sighted games I use
to play before losing my vision.
I also like my own games like STFC because of the strategy elements
involved in playing. There are many ways a battle can be played out,
and if you very your decisions from game to game you never really get
the same game twice. Enemies will usually do a completely different
 attack strategy everytime.

Oh no. You *can* group of course, and if you make a lot of friends,
sometimes grouping is just a fun way to get the XP, but you don't *have* to
group. I would be quite happy to show you some of the area's and even
figure out which areas might be more suitable, for your level, to do solo?
Just let me know if you would like a hand. Legend is really a lot more than
just grouping and running flat out, with people.
Hope to see you in there soon. I would love to know your Alts name though,

Hope to see you soon.

Dear Mr. Ward,
When you say your Raceway game will probably rock when it is completed
will this rocking affect my computer's stability?
Will it make me sea sick?
As I drink coffee when playing games I hope this rocking will not spill
coffee onto my keyboard as the keys will stick and not work well.
What is the cycles per second of this rocking motion?
Can you have a variable rocking so if the rocking is too much I can turn it
down?
If the rocking is not user adjustable, should I purchase foam pads to place
under the computer to prevent this rocking motion from upsetting my coffee
mug?
If I play your game on a laptop will this rocking motion cause undue
tightness in my lap?

Thank you in advance for answering my questions.

 Hi Charles,
Well, I know in one case, USA Raceway, is actually going to be a bit
better than the original design. James North's version of Raceway was
going to be more or less like the classic Poll Position where you raced
against three other cars on the track. you could select a track like an
 oval, figure 8, etc.
What I want to do with Raceway is make it along the lines of Nascar
Thunder. Complete with a 26 game season, 10 championship races, season
scores, realistic physics, force feedback support, etc. My version will
probably rock when it is completed. So try and not get too bumbed out
over them not being exactly the original. Smile.

 Charles Rivard wrote:
Just off the top of my head, here goes: If I remember right, Tom
didn't want the games to not be created, thus leaving those who
preordered with nothing. He also wanted to work on them. He is still
doing so, although, through the demands of others, plans have had to
be changed. I commend Tom for not letting gamers get screwed.
Gamers, myself among the number, preordered both titles in good faith
from James North, who let all of us down. He also screwed Tom, big
time. Tom is working on rectifying the situation as best he can, as
quickly as he can. Other projects he has plans for are on hold. I
can't wait to see those, too. The games he is working on may not be
in their original form, which bums me out, but I'll get good games,
I'm sure. Hang in there, folks. Don't give up, Tom. It'll get there.

2008-10-11 Thread Kirstan Mooney
Hello. The mud I would suggest giving a serious go to is, Legend. It can
be found at: mud.legendmud.org port
This mud doesn't have crafting, but it does have quite a few class's, quite
a few players and lots and lots of interesting areas to explore, throughout
the 3 eras of different time zones you can travel to. I hope you will give
it a go and if you do, please don't hesitate in contacting my char on there
for any questions or help I can give. She is Krista.

Hey Everybody,

Now that I've got my full version of VIP, I'm looking for an excellent mud
to take up my time. Things I like are extensive race and class selection,
many quests and more than 50 players at a time. Also, I'm looking for a
game with excellent crafting and enchanting. I do play Avalon, Aardwolf,
Carrion Fields and Miriani. Can someone add to my list with something I may
have missed?

Oh yeah, and I'm using the Mud Connector, too. I'm just trying to cover all
my bases by posting something here.

Thanks, everyone.

Subject: [Audyssey] a script game

 HI
Is it possible to create a game script in jaws?
Can scripting be used to make games?
Jaws has a very useful function called message box.
This message box can have a yes and a no button or yes, no and cancel
 buttons
And then by using if statements you can cause something to happen if the
user presses a button on this message box.
What I had in mind is a type of psychology game where a psychologist
 asks
you certain questions and depending on whether you choose no or yes he
 will
 ask you another question.
Another function which I also wondered if it can be used to make a game
 is
the dlg select item in list function.
I can create a basic script with it but I don't have the skill to make a
 game out of it.
It would be fun if I can create game scripts.
 Has any one tried it?

Hi. Yes you can get help on there through asking questions on either the
chat channel or the newbie channel. There are also good help files in the
game that you can type in, to get information for starting the game. Most
people in Legend are very willing to help.
Hope to see you soon in there.

Re: [Audyssey] Legend mud

2008-09-08 Thread Kirstan Mooney
Hi John. I might be a bit late with this reply, but you need the skill
*make bandage*. For a tip though, till you can learn that skill, most Inns
in the game sell bandages. Luckily, you don't need to learn *bandage* to be
able to bandage yourself. You can see the skills you can learn, which are
listed according to your stats, by typing *allskills*. To see which ones
you learn successfully, just type *skills*.
Hope you enjoy the game, please don't hesitate to contact Krista in the
game, if you have any questions, or ask on *chat* channel.

Re: [Audyssey] Legend mud

2008-09-08 Thread Kirstan Mooney
Hmm you mean the prompt? If it is the prompt you can type *config prompt*.
Now to be honest, I would need to be in the game to take an exact look, but
I think if you type *config prompt* it is a toggle key, turning it on or
off. If this doesn't work, *config prompt off* should work. Also, I have
the fighttype turned off. At the start, when I make a new char though, I
keep the fightype on, to see how many times I am hitting and how much damage
I am doing. Then, as I progress a little bit, I set it to *compact* so I
still see how much I am hitting, but not all the information I first got.
Then I just turn it off, cos I pretty much can't stand the Spam of it, plus
I know I am hurting pretty big. *lol* Also, any subject you want to know
about, there is a very good *help* command in Legend. If you type *help
prompt* or *help fighttype* or even just *config* you will get lots of good
helpful information.
Please don't hesitate to look me up in the game though if you have any
questions or want to be shown around a bit.
Kirstan AKA Krista.

Hello Mike and everyone who has welcomed me! I am a biig Legend mud
player and wrote a review 2 or 3 weeks ago, about it, on another list.
Perhaps, if people want to read it, I could send it here, or maybe I might
be able to put it in the Audessy magazine once I track down where they are
and how I get articles in there. But I am Legend through and through and
spend far too much of my time in there.
Thanks for asking.

Hi Kirstan,

Very good to see you back on the Audyssey list. It's been like five years.
That was when the Audyssey list was a Yahoo groups list.

Even though you are mostly into MUDDS, I hope that you will check out some
of my new text to speech games like Homer on a Harley, Puppy1 etc.

BFN

 Jim

Hello everyone. My name is Kirstan Mooney and many, many moons ago, I was
on this list and involved a little bit, with the magazine that used to be
sent out. Luckily, I stumbled upon this address again, so here I am. I
doubt if any of you remember me, but I wanted to say hi anyhow. My very
main focus in games is Muds and I hope to be involved in any and all
 discussion especially about them.
Okay well take care all for now and I can't wait to start getting posts
 and
 into the discussion about everything.
 Kirstan.

Re: [Audyssey] AJAX MUD client

2007-05-28 Thread Kirstan Mooney
Hello there. I went to the site you suggested below and I am afraid I
couldn't make out even a thing. When I went there, it said something about
color and then a lot about a type of font I think. Soo, using Jaws 7.0, I
couldn't understand one thing about your site I am sorry to say.
Kirstan.

2007-05-16 Thread Kirstan Mooney
Hello there. I am also interested in different Mud Clients. I currently
use Gmud and find it very good, but would like to know more about the below
Client. How does it compare to the likes of Gmud? Would you have any tips
for starting out with it, to make it easier to use?
Thanks for any help.
