Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Hi, Yes, Vader definitly took much more than a spark before he died, but all Star Wars fans believe it was the Emperor's attack that killed him and destroyed his life support system. I can remember when I was sighted how that final seen went down. Vader is on his knees, wires hanging out of his right arm where Luke had chopped it off at the wrist, and Palpatine starts smiling and laughing. Then he tries to taunt Luke into killing Vader. That's when Luke turns to face Emperor Palpatine, switches off his light saber, tosses it at the Emperor, and throws what equals a Jedi temper tantrem or heroism depending on how you want to view the seen. I love the look of hate and anger that comes over Palpatine's face. Then, he delivers the final line in the movie. So be it, Jedi. He then points his raised hands at Luke and knocks him flat on his back with a wave of force lightning. After cooking Luke a few seconds, he pauses, and plans to deliver the final killing blow when he unleashes some wicked lightning. Vader reaches up with his left hand and grabs the Emperor by his robes, and Palpatine is turned in his Thrown to direct the lightning directly at Vader which cooks Vader pretty darn good. Just then Vader tosses Palpatine head long into the reactor core where the Emperor explodes into blue-green light. Good riddance to Sith scum. Bryan wrote: That was pretty much how he died, too. He had to place his own body between Luke and Palpatine in order to throw the Emperor into the Death Star's reactor core. Since Palpatine was still firing off bursts of force lightning at the moment when Vader attacked him, Vader probably got quite a bit more than just a spark. I did notie something interesting though. Did anyone else notie that after Palpatine died Vader's life support malfunctioned enough so that he couldn't breathe properly anymore, yet while Luke was removing his mask it still mmade the sound of Vader's regular breathing once more? Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Hi Kuvvosh, Assuming I actually add the space combat levels to the game all the Tie fighters would probably be scattered around the system much like the other enemies are scattered around the regular levels. For example if you try and make it to the Asteroid space station from the South side Tie Fighters guarding that perimeter would fly in and attack. if they are destroyed others would begin coming in from other perimeters to try and reenforce the space stations defences. So at most you should have to face off with two or three fighters at a time. unless of course you let them form up into a larger attack force in which case you might want to boost power to the shields and hold on for a rather bumpy approach. Depending on which of Mara's ships i decide to use in the game would add some advantages over the Tie Fighters. For example, the Z-95 Headhunters Mara liked to fly in the Thrawn and Jedi Academy triligies is a far more maneuverable and better armed starfighter than the Imperial Tie Intercepters flown by the Empire. Now, that I think about it a Z-95 would probably be appropriate for this game seeing as Mara wouldn't have gotten the Jade's Fire yet. Mysteries of the Sith happens sometime around the time of Jedi Academy and she only flew Z-95 Headhunters in that time period of her life. Kuvvosh wrote: Well, how about this. Hi, yes, that is the three original books that Mara Jade appeared in. Speaking of Heir To The Empire Hasbro toys has released a 15 year anniversary set this Christmas from Heir To The Empire. You get a comic book of Heir To The Empire, one special edition Mara Jade action figure, and a Luke Skywalker figure dressed in his x-wing flight suit. I've heard there are going to be some figures released in 2008 featuring comic books with Grand Admiral Thrawn, Talon Carde, Master C'bouth, etc. As a Star Wars collecter I am pretty excited about the new action figure series. Hi, Thanks for the heads up. I will see if I can locate it. I'm growing very disappointed with the Legacy series of books anyway, and the all time low point was when Mara confronts Jacen as a traiter and he kills her. That royally royally sucked. Although, I have heard from some blogs and such on the subject the last two books in the series will still have Mara in them, but she will be as a spirit ggardian similar to what Obi-wan became in Empire Strikes Back and Return Of the Jedi. Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Hi, That is interesting though it is definitly not Star Wars cannon. Darth Vader never possessed the power to use force lightning, and Mara never completed that level of Sith training to have force lightning either. At least not the real Mara. In Mysteries of the Sith though Mara Jade discovers that before the Emperor's death he had ordered a clone of Mara to be made. While the real Mara joined the New Republic, became a Jedi Knight, married Luke, etc this clone Mara became a Sith and was ordered to kill the real Mara and take her place as an agent of the Empire. If you played the game to conclusion though the real Mara Jade kills her clone, and she goes on with the rest of her life as the books says. If you die, the real Mara, and then the clone becomes an Imperial spy. I can say from personal experience in playing the original Mysteries Of The Sith the clone Mara could easily rip you a new one if you didn't use a little dirty fighting your self. She would jump around the Sith temple shooting off force blind which would cause the screen to go fuzzy, hit you with lightning, or use force throw to toss you into a wall. She didn't even need a Sith light saber to kick the real Mara's butt. As I recall the path to victory was basically to put your light saber away and force duel by tossing force stun, force blind, and force protect, until you got the clone Mara weakened or stunned enough that a quick saber stroke to the head or waiste would eliminate the witch. Bryan wrote: Yeah, I remember there was a Star Wars fighting game or Play Station and you could fight as Mara Jade if you met certain conditions in the game. And you certainly didn't want to be the one fighting her if you were first starting out. She had a lot of the same Lightsaber moves as Luke, but then she'd put away her weapon and she could shoot lightning at you, which is something Vader could also do. I always liked to fight as either Vader or Jade. Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Hi, Quote I think I read somewhere that he couldn't use Force lightning because of his cybernetics. End quote That is correct. In the new Star Wars legacy series there is a discussion between Lumiya, Vader's former apprentice, and Jacen Solo about Darth Vader. Lumiya explains that a cybernetic being doesn't have full control or mastery over the force because machine components are not living things. Lumiya goes on to explain that Jacen's uncle Luke nearly killed her during the rebellion, and after she was rescued by the Empire and given cybernetic lims etc she was not able to master the force. In the Rise of Darth Vader there is an interesting discussion between Palpatine and Darth Vader over Vader's new cybernetic components. Palpatine explains to Vader that all he'd have to do to kill Vader is one spark of force lightning and he could short out Vader's life support. Obviously, Vader, once Anakin Skywalker, had no will of his own any more. He either served the Emperor or a blast of lightning could short him out and he'd die. \So based on all I have read if Vader would have been able to use force lightning, if at all, it would have likely killed him by disrupting or damaging his cybernetic systems. If Lumiya is right and mechanical parts effect the use of the force Vader was truly screwed. one hand was lost when Count Duku cut it off in Attack Of the Clones, and Obi-wan basically finished the job by chopping his legs off, and he lost part of one of his armes before Obi-Wan knocked him into the lava pit. Basically, when Palpatine and the Storm Troopers came to collect him there wasn't much left that was organic. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Hi, Sure. They do it all the time. Though, the fact remains that is completely a contridiction of the books and movies. Personally, I am in agreement with Lumiya's assessment given in the Legacy series that Vader lost allot of force powers after having so many cybernetic components added. Force lightning would probably have damaged his cybernetics and killed him. Bryan wrote: Yeah, but you know video games. They have to add things to make it more fun. Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
That was pretty much how he died, too. [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Hi Everyone, I know it has been a long time since we have discussed the Star Wars game in production by USA Games so I decided to bring the topic up. I'd like to announce some of the current changes and ideas for the game as well as offer everyone a chanse to openly discuss the game. As allot of you gamers know I have been a very big fan of Mara Jade since she first appeared in Heir To the Empire. I have a large collection of Mara Jade fan collecter stuff including action figures, books, and games. So it is not surprising one of my all time favorite games Lucas Arts produced Was, Jedi Knight II Mysteries of the Sith, which featured, you guessed it, Mara Jade as the lead character. For those of you who have never played Mysteries of the /Sith and want to know what it was about here is a short summary of the game. Following an Imperial attack at Altyr 5 roomers begin circulating that a new Sith Lord has joined the Empire. Jedi Master Luke Skywalker asks his friend, the former smuggler and aspiring Jedi knight, Mara Jade to track down the Sith Lord and stop him at all costs. Throughout her quest Mara must battle Imperial Storm Troopers, Imperial Droids, smugglers, Wampas, Rancors, and even defeat a dark side clone of herself. Finally, once she meets the new Sith Lord does she have what it takes to defeat him? At this poinht in time I am basically thinking of a game based on Mysteries of the Sith with some personal changes tossed in for good measure and to improve the game somewhat. For example, in the original game you would have to steel an Imperial shuttle to escape to the secret asteroid base where the Empire was launching its attacks into New Republic space. Personally, flying around in an old Imperial shuttle is sort of dull considering the kinds of fighters and ships Mara pilots in the books. It is like, hey, what is an ace starfighter pilot doing in an old shuttle? Instead of the Imperial shuttle i could replace it with Mara's personal ship, Jade's Fire, which would just happen to be standing on the North landing platform instead of the shuttle. The advantage with adding the Jade's Fire rather than using the original shuttle is that I could introduce some dog fighting levels which would show case Mara's starfighter ace abilities in addition to her Jedi skills. Another change I feel would improve the game over the original is the switch between level 1 and level 2. In the original game when you ended level 1 you took off in the shuttle. In the next seen, opening of level 2, you landed on the base ready to shut it down. That's ok I guess, but I always felt there should be some sort of combat seen in between those two levels. Some sort of dog fight or space combat seen as you atempt to land on the secret asteroid base. What my thoughts are is in my version before you go to level 2 you would have an extra level in between where you could dog fight against Tie Fighters. You might be piloting the Jade's Fire towards the secret asteroid base when you suddenly get jumped by a squad of Tie Fighters. Before you could land on the base you'd have to dog fight, and destroy all Tie Fighters. Perhaps the biggest change I intend to make is i plan to use Mara for all the game levels. In the original game you got to play as Kyle on some levels, but it was something I didn't care fore. Kyle is an ok Star Wars character, but not my favorite. I always felt the game would have been better if Lucas Arts focussed on one or the other character than switching between characters on different levels. So this is my thoughts and plans right now. Anyone, have thoughts, suggestions, or comments? --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Spoiler Warning! Actually, The Emperor's Hand was Mara Jade's personal title, not the name of her ship. The twist is that the Emperor had dozens of hands, each of whom believed that she was the only one. As for how Mara became a Jedi, after the Emperor was killed she spent some time thirsting for Luke's blood, all the while working for a particularly powerful smuggler named Talon Kaard. But they had to join forces, first to escape the planet where Mara and her then boss had their base, and then later to slay the clone of a powerful Sith lord named Jorus C'baoth. In fact it was Mara who actually killed C'baoth, using Luke's old Lightsaber if memory serves. After that they sort of reconsiled and Mara eventually becomes a Jedi Master, not to mention Luke's wife. Then there was the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, but that's another story entirely. Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so. - Original Message - From: Brandon Armstrong [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 2:01 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion well, being as i've never read thoughs books i have some questions about that. Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Hi Brandon, Quote First, how did she become a jedie knight? End quote That is a long story, comprising of several Star Wars books, but the basic short story goes like this. When Mara was 8 The Emperor had picked her to be one of his Sith students he called the Emperor's Hand. We later found out that the Emperor had Several Emperor's Hands, and none of them knew about the others. In any case from ages 8 to 18 Emperor Palpatine trained Mara as a Sith aprentiss. Beginning in Heir to the Empire, five years after Return of the Jedi, Mara and Luke are thrown together by accident to help stop Grand Admiral Thrawn and a new dark Jedi named C'bouth. When it all is said and done Luke presents Mara with his old light saber, the one that had been his fathers, and it is assumed she will become a Jedi. In the Jedi Academy triligy Mara Jade litterally shows up at the Jedi base in a Z-95 Head Hunter and personally asks Luke to begin training her as a Jedi. Years pass by in the books with Mara making guest appearances here and there, and she finally is added as a core character in Star Wars Unity. In short that is the one where Luke and Mara fall in love, get married, and she becomes a Jedi Master. From Vector Prime on Mara remains a central character to the Star Wars Universe until Jacen Solo murders her in book six or seven in the Legacy series. Needless to say I was really peed off when I read that book. All I can say at least she went down fighting like a true Jedi. Quote Second, how did she get a new ship, i thought jade flew the empers hand? End quote Mara never had a ship called the Emperor's Hand. That was her title given to her by the late Emperor before his death. However, Mara has owned and flown several ships in the books, and I don't think I could name them all. Basically, she has flown fighters like Z-95 Head Hunters, X-Wings, and had some personal ships like the Jade's Fire Jade's Saber, andJade's Shadow. As for the Jade's Fire it was a Personal Luxury Yacht 3000 called the Winning Gamble given to her by Sansia Bardin after Mara rescued her from slavers. After taking over the ship Mara named it the Jade's Fire and added some cool additions like the ability to automatically fire upon an attacking ship. It gets some good coverage in the Corellian triligy. Hi Kuvvosh, Quote Question 1: Will this be a total 3D game in space and on land? End quote As for the FPS portion of the game it will be totaly 3D. As for the dog fight portion it will probably switch to 2D since the game would be easier to play that way. Quote Question 2: Since this going to be a story based game, will it have multiple endings? End quote The original had three different endings. I am hoping to be able to do all three endings. Quote Question 3: Will this have the option of Multiplayer Space dog fighting online? End quote No, the game is primarily a First Person Shooter stand alone game. The dog fighting levels are just some bonuses that would make the game a little cooler and fill in some plot holes in the story. Quote Question 4: Can there be a nudity code in it like Tomb Rader had? End quote Lol! Well, I don't know how that would work. We are blind so even if I could get the mottle who is used for the action figures, games, and photos to pose nude none of us could see her. More seriously we don't have graphics in our games since it is added expense and time so a nude option wouldn't be possible anyway. Quote Question 5: If Question 1 is true, will there be a training level before the real action begins as this seems like a higher end shooting game then Doom. End quote I have to think about that. The original Star Wars game didn't have a training level, but I suppose one could be added in at some point. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. sounds good to me also. - Original Message - From: shaun everiss [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 5:12 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion sounds good tom, all of it. Hi, Yeah, I love the way Mara killed C'bouth. She took the light saber and ran him through the gut. Anyone want to mess with her in a bad mood? As for the Emperor's Hands there were several, but to date only two have been mentioned by name in the books. Mara Jade is one and Lumiya is the other. Unfortunately, according to the last book that came out in the Legacy series both are dead. Jacen killed Mara, and Luke believing it was Lumiya he faught and killed Lumiya. Classic case of good book, but really sucky ending. Bryan wrote: Spoiler Warning! Actually, The Emperor's Hand was Mara Jade's personal title, not the name of her ship. Well, there's a new book out called alleigance. I haven't read it yet, but if you can read it, I would recommend it. It might give some good information about Mara. It's set in the empire days with Han, Leia, and I think Chewbacca. That's about all I know. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 3:44 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion Hi Everyone, I know it has been a long time since we have discussed the Star Wars game in production by USA Games so I decided to bring the topic up. Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Well, I hate to say it, but I think the Dog fight part should be 3D as well, as this would bring realisim into the game. Having to go from 3D to 2D isn't something that is all that fun. There is one game that I wish could be done since it could be done in audio but, werfe talking about a major game with thousand of hours to produce, is something like Star Trek hmmm what was the title geesh Bridge Commander I think. Can't remember I played it before I went totally blind and it was awesome as you was basicly the captain of the whole ship and had to do everything. I know Final Conflict is there, but sorry that game is boring. I hated the fact you had to select everything and then pass turn. I wanted the real deal. And only command one ship. Oh well. Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion
Yeah, I remember there was a Star Wars fighting game or Play Station and you could fight as Mara Jade if you met certain conditions in the game. And you certainly didn't want to be the one fighting her if you were first starting out. She had a lot of the same Lightsaber moves as Luke, but then she'd put away her weapon and she could shoot lightning at you, which is something Vader could also do. I always liked to fight as either Vader or Jade. Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 4:51 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Discussion Hi, Yeah, I love the way Mara killed C'bouth.
