Re: [Audyssey] Eamon trouble

2008-11-14 Thread shaun everiss
well I won't bother with this.
it may be just me but when I first tried the games in dos out on windows, even
when they worked I was never envolved, usually I can get into the story line,
check the hints if I am stuck or for background info.
However now I have to remember my screenreader functions as well which means I
am not playing the game, I am reading the game with a boring speech synth.
And that makes it not fun at all.
So its good we have hugo.
I have tried to play some others in hugo to, some of which are good especially
with the music although some music does mangle speech with its volume, mostly
though its good.

Hi Sean.

the Eamon stuff apparently comes with basic, which is probably why it runs
okay on my windows Xp machine and doesn't require me to use dosbox or similar.

what I found is when the games are maximized to full screen (as they are by
default), hal can't interact with them at all, so it's necessary to press alt
enter to get them back to a manageable console window.

the games themselves are actually text, however by default the main hall
(where you access all the other games), is graphical.

You can alter this in the control panel (option 7 from the first menue,
then option 2 to alter).

there is unfortunately one miner issue. The program uses a huge amount of
menues, arrow keys and enter style menues.

while the options are readable, it's a highlight box which actually shows you
what option you've selected. Unless you can check the text colour or
highlighting, there won't be an indication with a screen reader.

Once you actually start one of the adventure games though, everything is
pretty standard if stuff, with a limited parza, but heavy focus on turn
based combat and stats.

the only issue I'm having currently with hal is that when windowed, some
longer lines of text seem to disappear off the edge of the window and not be
displayed. i'm mucking about with console window settings to try and fix this,
but any suggestions would be appreciated.

I did try dark, however it just didn't feel right.
Yeah I also go in and out of vf but even when the text is like it is if the
menus are at the top of the screen especially well it really lowers the
purpose, I can't play without being interupted by the switch.
This is not helped that when I first had the system with windows, for about 5
more years I ran on and off with my old dos system, still playing games and
enjoying them.
After it died well.
At 09:27 p.m. 13/11/2008, you wrote:
Hmmm Sean.

Having played interactive fiction using the vf on several interpreters for
quite a few years, personally i don't mind switching.

Actually, i'm at the point now where I go into and out of vf naturally and
don't even register that I'm doing it, i'm much more taken up with the game
itself.

Of course, the text has to be atmospheric in the first place, and I'm not sure
if Eamon can do that, but I'll give it a chance.

Personally, i always just used the various skip paragraph functions to go
streight there in vf, so skipped the menues in If games.

I haven't yet tried a game with the win frotz map file though, which seems
(from the application notes), to have a custome application key for reading
the last message output by the game.

if that works that might solve your problem.

I'll be reinstalling Win frotz and win tads this weekend, so i'll let you
know how things go.

I got it installed and configured for text mode.
But it's so slow . I waited a half hour for it to read the intro screen and
it still didn't finish.

Is there any way to speed it up?
I had better luck with PC eamon.

When the program loaded on my system, I found that I had to go to the

I've download the eamon delux full collection, tried to run the

I can't even get to Hal's commands to check the focus, which is

Has anyone found a way of getting this to output readable text?

Defign stil alive.

donald brown is apparently stil around, but isn't working on eamon or
interested in talking about it.

Many other people have written ~Eamon adventures, and there are various
mailing lists etc for the game which you can have a look at.

well I managed to get the eamon stuff installed only to find it uses qbasic.
sadly I don't have a dos screenreader or an external synth to use it even when
I did I didn't much care to run it, it was really a beep.
At any rate these games are graphics, I will try the other version, will like
it when there is a version for windows though.

yeah same here, it runs qbasic, which even with a dos reader is a dog, now the

So if I was running a dos reader I I'd probably not be able to read anyway.

[Audyssey] Eamon Guild Fore MS DOS!

2008-11-12 Thread Trenton Matthews

Hello all!
I now present you with the link to Eamon for the microsoft disk operating
system!

http://eamonag.org/pages/eamon-PC.htm

And folks? I think e know the best screen reader to play the game on I'm
sure.

*grin*
Here is a tip before diving in to the adventure:
Save the file of course in an easy location, but after you have located the
file, right click/open context menu, and if you have 7-zip, go to its
sub-menu, and choose the option extract here. Once done, it produces a
PC_Eamon folder, which I myself renamed it to eamon by pressing f2 on
the pc_eamon folder. After that, move the eamon folder to your c
drive, then enter the dos/command prompt, and type:

cd \eamon
then on the next, type
eamon
And there you go!
And now, e just wait for Draconis for there magic touch!
*salutes to Josh!*

[Audyssey] Eamon games.

2006-10-02 Thread MissWings
I was looking forward to the Eamon games myself. I remember when I was
younger one of my friends had a bunch of them, but she lived too far away
from me to go over to her house much. I think I only visited her a few
times but every time I was there I looked forward to playing those
games. I only managed to play a couple of them and I can't even remember
which ones they were now. There was the beginning adventure on the master
disk and one other one, but that was my extent with the Eamon experience.

As far as I know, James is still working on a game development system
 and
  is
going to have Max completed which will act as a demonstration of what
 this
development system can do. Of course, that news is fairly old now. Given
  the
grief he's taken for being so public about things, I wouldn't be
 surprised
if he hasn't updated his web site. We likely won't hear a thing from him
until Max or this system is completely ready. There's also a ton of
 other
responsibilities and things happening in his life. The whole fiasco has
doubtless almost completely destroyed his motivation for producing
accessible games. Progress will therefore likely be quite slow.

Subject: [Audyssey] Eamon games.

It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go.

Here's the history in a nut shell: Not only did James North work for
 ESP
Softworks, but he! was! ESP Softworks. He sold his games to Adora
Entertainment, where Josh de Lioncourt was employed. Now, those games
 are
 owned by, and found at

 www.draconisentertainment.com

where Josh is continuing game development.

Didn't he also used to work with ESP Softworks and Adora
   Entertainment?
 I
seem to remember his voice came up a lot in their games on the main
 menus
   and things.

We likely won't hear a thing from
  him
until Max or this system is completely ready. There's also a ton of
 other
responsibilities and things happening in his life. The whole fiasco
  has
doubtless almost completely destroyed his motivation for producing
accessible games. Progress will therefore likely be quite slow.

Re: [Audyssey] eamon

2006-09-09 Thread Jude DaShiell
eamon is available to work on dos and the mac. I first had it on the mac
and later found it on line on genie which no longer exists and may have it
on a floppy somewhere. It came with a dungeon designer's kit where if you
wanted to you could roll your own games too. I think there was even a
version you could run using gwbasic too.
