Re: [Audyssey] Monti 3 is good!

2007-10-12 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Karl,

Quote
I have found one or two times that when I entered a dark room,
especially at a run, two torches were used.
End quote

Hmmm... Never seen this myself, but I think from time to time such
gliches like this are bound to pop up once and a while.
Problem is it is not something that is consistent, and such bugs like
that are a serious pain to fix.

Quote
Also, the nonagression by skulls and spiders when you have a sword
isn't fixed. I think this should be fixed so that if you stand still
and an enemy comes near you, within sword rang, it will automatically
be attacked.
End quote

I know. I haven't gotten to working on this issue yet. There were other
bugs I felt needed my attention first such as the one where save and
restore options wasn't working.
When installing a new version it is always a good idea to look at the
Changes.txt file to get a good idea of exactly the issues or problems
addressed in the release. If you don't see something in there it is
likely I did not either find time to address that particular bug yet,
don't have a solution for it, or I have ranked it in the to do list for
the next patch/upgrade.
Anyway, as far as Beta 3 goes I felt some bug fixes were needed asap, and
released the update earlier than usual. Though, your non-agressive
monster bug is on my list of things to do for Beta 4.

Quote
Also, I feel that, if you have a sword and land on a skull
or spider, you should kill it, rather than it killing you. This would
be analogous to stabbing down with the sword as you land.
End quote

Hmmm... Cool idea. Not sure how the purests will go for it, but I think
you are right. If you are armed you should be able to kill a monster if
you land on them.
I am also thinking about restoring the ability to kill snakes, because
it doesn't make sense you can kill sskulls and spiders, but not snakes.

Obviously not all hot keys are turned off then, since with 2 keys like

Re: [Audyssey] Monti 3 is good!

2007-10-11 Thread Dark
Well Raul, the only key Hal actually needs is the key to turn back on the
hotkeys, - ctrl eight by default. If you've turned the voice off, you
need to re-enable hotkeys before you turn it back on.

I'm not sure of all the technical reasons, but from what I've read in other
docs, Hal probably doesn't do the same thing with tracking curser keys as
Jaws, - and maybe Window eyes, I'm not sure. Once the voice and keys are
off, for all practical purposes, it seems as if Hal isn't there anymore
though it's stil running in the background.

I've known people do some pretty intensive keyboard intensive stuff with
hal's voice and keys off, - such as playing graphical games on the same
machine, and there didn't appear to be any slowdown or similar.

Beware the Grue!

Hi Dark,
I don't have an official release date for the project, but I am hoping
to make it availible around Christmas time. Even if the stable release
isn't here by then I'll probably be able to do preorders, and since
there is a public demo it won't be the same as Alchemy's preorders.
They'll have a demo to play until I can get 1.0 stable ready for download.
However, you are correct. The project is reaching a stable release very
soon. There are a few bugs/issues I want to tie up, some levels I need
to script, and add the games registration system. Usually, when you can
count the things to do on one hand you know it is very much near
complete for a 1.0 stable.

Re: [Audyssey] Monti 3 is good!

2007-10-11 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
I would like to say that so far on my 2 Vista machines, one with Home
Premium and one with Ultimate, Monty is running very well. I really like
the new ambiance and the sand sounds. The system menu still pops up from
time to time, but thanks to the new keyboard layout, this is much more
rare. Great job on making the changes to the torch, it seems to be a bit
better now.

Re: [Audyssey] Monti 3 is good!

2007-10-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Raul,
Actually, the step sounds you hear aren't sand, but a mixture of dirt
and gravel step sounds. I had created them for my Tomb Raider game liked
them, and thought they would also work great for Montezuma's Revenge for
two reasons.
First, the historical Aztec and Mian temples and pyramids were mostly
constructed with stone and dirt. Basically large adobe structures, and
it is likely the floor is dirt, and maybe some rocks or gravel. Granted
Montezuma's Revenge is a more Sci-Fi game still adding dirt to the floor
rather than sand is more realistic. More in keeping with how they would
have been built historically.
Second, when trying them out I really liked those sounds. It made me
personally feel like I was there. The sound quality sounded more real.
You know what I mean?
As for the torches I updated them to use a timer so if you view the map,
pause the game, etc they will also wait for you to return to normal game
play.

Re: [Audyssey] Monti 3 is good!

2007-10-11 Thread Karl
I have found one or two times that when I entered a dark room,
especially at a run, two torches were used.
Also, the nonagression by skulls and spiders when you have a sword
isn't fixed. I think this should be fixed so that if you stand still
and an enemy comes near you, within sword rang, it will automatically
be attacked. Also, I feel that, if you have a sword and land on a skull
or spider, you should kill it, rather than it killing you. This would
be analogous to stabbing down with the sword as you land.
