Re: [Audyssey] dragon woreors answers

2006-06-03 Thread Christopher Bartlett

1. What is the setting of the story line behind Dragon Warriors? Is
this high fantasy, alternate history, science fiction, what?
The answer is fiction.
*face palm* What kind of fiction?

2. Tell me more about the dragons. Are these the magical creatures
of LeGuin, the evil servants of the Dark Lord of Tolkien, the
friendly dragons of Perne or something different?
Well, I do not understand the question to well. Are you talking about the
mane charictor? Or you're enimeeys?
I'm talking about both as I didn't even know that dragons would be on
both sides. There are many different kinds of dragons from the myth
of different peoples, from the Norse to the Chinese. Many authors
have created their own dragons, so I'm trying to get a sense what the
foundation of your dragons is.

3. Who are the enemies that we will be fighting?
Well, I do not understand that question eather.
This goes back to story. Why are we fighting and who are we fighting?

Based on the other answers to the questions, it looks to me as though
you are designing the effects/powers in the game before considering
why all this is happening. As you have asked for suggestions, I
think this will make for an unfocussed game with little satisfaction
in it. These kinds of games work, when they do, as much because of
the backstory that you never see as because of any of the gosh-wow
special effects that they have. I'd urge you to give some real
thought to the story, the setting and everything like that. Doing so
will reward you as it will make decisions about what to include and
what to leave out much easier.

Re: [Audyssey] dragon woreors answers

2006-06-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi, Ivan.
That might be, but I have yet to hear about the entire story behind the
game. Who is the dragon warrior, is it a he or she, who are the enemies,
are there boss enemies, what are the objectives to completing the
levels, what powers are there for each creature, how many different
worlds or areas in the game, etc. I haven't the remotest of ideas what
this game is suppose to be like. For someone who has thought and thought
and thought about it you haven't given us a very clear idea of this game.
Besides that a good programmer does more than think about a game. They
write down there thoughts, organise them, delete, reshape, and work on
it a while. If yu see Audyssey 48 soon to come out you will see I have a
story on how Angela Smith came to be at the temple looking for the
treasure. You will also discover the connection between the USA Games
version and the old Atari classic story wise.
My Star Wars game currently is having a short story that is being
written to help construct the ideas and areas for the game. Each level
in the game is a chapter in the story. Naturally, the game should
eventually match closely with the book at some point.
Even thoughyou have thought about the game from what you have done and
said on list Dragon Warriors appears to lack direction. That might not
be true, but if it has direction all of us would like more info on
specific details about the game.

2006-06-02 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
We all need to remember rule number 9 when it comes to reading someone's
style of writing. I must confess that with certain people's style of
writing and spelling I have a hard time understanding or even taking it
seriously but tollerance is the key word here.

Ivan, this is just a friendly suggestion. Believe me, I'm in no way
criticizing your way of writing things but if you want to be taken more
seriously you will have to make your messages easier to read. I'm not
talking about being perfect here. I'm just talking about a few words
which are very easy to spell could be considered. Also, I'm not sure if
English is your native language or not.

I would imagine that when coding a game you need to spell the functions
and the coded lines correctly so the game will compile. Speaking of
which, what language are you coding Dragon Warriors in?

Thanks much and I look forward to hearing more about this game which
sounds interesting.

I guess I would consider things for your game like power ups, such as
getting fire breath for destroying one type of enemy, and freezing breath

various things in the way like doors or statues etc.
Maybe giving a double flame on some occasions to increase firepower,
 perhaps
a minor invincible power up to avoid damage, maybe the dragon can summon
smaller dragons to surround him and shoot right along with your

but they would be susceptible to damage and destruction. Also some ideaas

 might
be eating cows and sheep for health, having a armor on the dragon

I guess I would consider things for your game like power ups, such as
getting fire breath for destroying one type of enemy, and freezing
 breath

 dissolve
various things in the way like doors or statues etc.
Maybe giving a double flame on some occasions to increase firepower,
 perhaps
a minor invincible power up to avoid damage, maybe the dragon can
 summon
smaller dragons to surround him and shoot right along with your
 character,
but they would be susceptible to damage and destruction. Also some

might be eating virgin princesses to restore health. some more ideas
 might
be eating cows and sheep for health, having a armor on the dragon

gets damaged every time it hits, or it fallsoff when hit, and you need
 to
find another dragon armor suit to put on. maybe your dragon can summon
 lots
of goblins and orcs to attack large numbers of bad guys. But mostly I
 am
 tapped for ideas.

Ivan, the messages I have seen are vague and don't explain
much. Let's try it this way. Here's a list o specific questions
that should help structure the information for all of us.

 1. What is the setting of the story line behind Dragon Warriors? Is
this high fantasy, alternate history, science fiction, what?

 2. Tell me more about the dragons. Are these the magical creatures
of LeGuin, the evil servants of the Dark Lord of Tolkien, the
friendly dragons of Perne or something different?

 3. Who are the enemies that we will be fighting?

 4. Will the dragon warriors be able to fly?

 5. What kind of weaponry do they have, a breath weapon, claws, bite,
 tail, other weapons?

 6. Will dragons be able to cast magic spells or use mind powers in
 some fashion?

 7. What is the physical setting of the game, i.e. a temple, a dragon
cave, a battlefield or something else?

 8. What kind of sound environment are you going to create? Is this
 to be a full 3d game, a side-scroller, a turn-based game, what?

 9. Will players have choices in creating their dragon warriors, or
 are the characters pregenerated?

 10. What game controls do you expect people to use, i.e. keyboard,
 mouse, gamepad/other game controller, joystick?

That's ten specific questions that should give us all a better idea
what you're shooting for, which will in turn allow us to make
 detailed suggestions.

As long as I already have JAWS, I don't see why games don't use it. In
games like GMA Tank Commander, self voicing is OK, but I would like to
 see
more games like Lone Wolf in which information is spoken using what we
already have and are familiar to us. Also, I prefer the voice quality to
that of, in particular, the SAPI speech. To my ears, it is much more
understandable, and the rate is set in JAWS to what I prefer.

 Hi charles,
Good point. I have a question for you however, why do you prefer to see
games come out using the screen readers instead of self voiceing? Just
 curious.

how it will be played? The last info you gave us about it was very vague.
Giving folks more info about the game will help pique interest.
Also, what are you using to program the game?
