I always appreciate a sound describing feature and if I have no trouble

Its as easy as achio and harry would have get his wand back, now poor

Re: [Audyssey] game sounds menu - Re: bomb blaster then?

2007-04-11 Thread Dark
Hi Damian.

Wow! so your now in charge of Savage gambit and Savage gambit redemption?
cool!

You seem like quite a busy chap with this and bomb blaster on the go.

Here's a couple of my thoughts about the game.

While i certainly enjoyed the concept and execution of the game, i did find
it rather easy once I'd memorized the punches and counters, a bit like
boppit with slightly more switches to pull.

Stil, this might have just been me.

if you wanted to muck about with the game mechanics, you could considder
customizing the enemies a bit, giving them special moves and counters with
their own audio for instance, if they block a certain number of punches they
get to taunt you and perform special moves, which you must avoide based on
guess work, experience and knolige of the boxer's body. For instance, one of
the big heavy enemies could yell heads up as he attempts to perform a
symbols move on the sides of your head, which you must obviously duck to
avoid.

On a basic level, you might also considder varying the rythm of the punches,

In the same way, different arenas in different locations with different

[Audyssey] suggestion for AudioGame developers: online playing game for MSN/skype

2007-04-11 Thread Talksina
Hi,
as we all noticed, on the latest versions of most famous instant
messengers (msn, yahoo, skype, etc) there is the possibility to play
games with our contacts.
But unfortunately those games are completely inaccessible!
The only accessible on line multiplayers I found, are the
FreedomChat-related, accessible starship, and freedom millionaire, I
suppose, and TopSpeed2, but the problem of that game is that even
playing in 2 or more people, it's not attached to any program, you
must run instant messengers by themselves and top speed 2 by itself.
It would like to be a good idea to develop something accessible,
which can be build in MSN and Skype's game manager
well, unfortunately I have no development knowledge, about gaming, but
I think a tic tac toe game should be quite easy to develop
Sorry if it could seem absurd
But I think it would be nice to make blind and sighted people play
together with favourite instant messenger client
It's much sad, to have dedicated platform (freedom chat similar)
with dedicated games
bye, talksina

Hi Nicol,
The HP questions are getting off topic for this list. So if you don't
mind try and ask questions that relate to Sarah, but not generic HP
questions that may or may not relate.
Just for your info Harry could not use a summoning charm on the wand,
because without a wizards wand the wizard is deffenceless, and has no
magical powers. At least that has been my take on the HP reasoning for this.

I was originally going to have all the spells blocked if Sarah lost her

Hi Talksina,
actually I have nothing to contribute about such kind of multiplayer games
but I can give you directions to several more online audiogames out there
you've probably missed.
First, there really is an open-source Tic-tac-toe by Philip Bennefall. ;)

Then there is Audioquake at:

and finally Galaxy Ranger (Super Tennis, Super Football and Lords of the

Hope this helps,

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Apparating to anywhere in sarah

Hi Phil,
I totally understand the need for having maximum energy and spells. I've had
to put in something similar in my Star Wars FPS game to keep the main
character from being way to powerful with having too many Force skills and
to much Force energy.
In reality the Force is always present so a gamer should be able to call
upon the Force at any time to use special abilities such as far sight, Force
pull, Force throw, Force Jump, Force speed, etc... Having that stuff
unlimited gives the gamer a easy time out running, disarming, and defeating
all enemies.
The way I off set this and still stick to the Star Wars cannon is I am using
a little known Padawan Learner who survived the purge in Revenge of the
Sith. She has limited Force ability in the start of the game, but as you
complete levels, use your Force skills, you slowly gain extra Force energy,
and can get better and more successful at using your Force powers.
Interesting enough since I am allowing you the choice to play light sider or
dark sider how quick you gain Force skills is in part dependant on which
side you choose to play.
If you pick the light side you will advance more slowly as a true Jedi won't
rush in to experimenting and abuse his or her powers, and mainly uses them
for defense.
A dark sider will advance more rapidly as he or she will experiment with
more distructive Force gifts like casting lightning, distruction, blinding
your enemies, choking, or any other forbidden power that uses the Force
negatively.
An example might be a player is about to enter the Hut palace and two guards
are there. What strategy will you take. A light sider would use Force to
confuse or distract them and let him or her pass in safety. A dark sider
would choke or simply kill them with chain lightning with no attempt to
preserve life. Both might be effective ways to get in to the palace, but the
former at least is a posative use of powerful skills.
Perhaps you could think of some way to add something similar to Sarah. I
noticed many hexes or jinxes Sarah could do that are a bit taboo for her,
and thus you can't do them. I'd love to freeze filch in place or levetate
him for a while and get away.

Phil Vlasak wrote:
 Hi Tom,
Although I could add a menu of all the places you visited I do not
think Sarah could apparate to a part of the castle that she did not visit.
This is a good idea but would require lots of computer coding and thought.

Each location would require a Boolean number that would be added to
her list and would change what the locations menu read.

To make the game follow the rules of magic in the Harry Potter books
would allow her to do unlimited spells which would make you too
powerful and make the game too easy to get through.
This is why I put an energy penalty on doing spells and put a counter
as to how many times you could do certain powerful spells.

 Hi Nicol,
Honestly I think it would be easier if Phil just put in a feature
such as a menu to appirate to where you wanted to go.
After all appiration is supposed to be based on the triple d rules of
pick a destination, deliberate on it, and use determination to will
your self to that point. Destination, Deliberation, Determination, pop.

After the kwiditch world cup when harry discovered his wand is missing,
why didn't he used a summoning charm to get it back? If he used achio

not get into trouble? Remember the dark mark? After the tournament
Arthur weesley called every one and they went into the wood out of the
camp site and then the dark mark strike, the scull thing, and harry's
wand was missing. Winkie picked up the wand but didn't cause the dark
mark. Winkie was in trouble for picking up the wand. Sheesh this puzzles
 me.
Its as easy as achio and harry would have get his wand back, now poor
winkie is in trouble. She could have been saved the trouble if harry
just retrieved his wand with the achio charm.

[Audyssey] i'VE GOT THE HOWLER!

2007-04-11 Thread nicol
I'm so glad; I managed to get the howler! I'm so excited to receive my

the howler is not as worse as i expected it. i expected that sarah's mom is
going to scream like sarah would scream if she runs into the boggart without
any charm protecting her. Since the manual indicates that only sarah's
father is in the game I thought he would really scream, but he didn't; he
just talked loudly as like over a huge sound syhstem or intercom.
You don't need to get all the magical items to get the howler. I got the
nimbus broom although it doesn't count as a magical item, then I got the
floot and glass ball, the necklace and old parchment and the pen knife. My
time ran out before I could get the wand from the hufflepuff room. I first
got the old parchment with the achio charm, then I went to the kitchen and
collected the pen knife there, then I came to the staff room and took the
necklace and then I took the floot and rememberal from the 2 classrooms and
at that moment I heard the owel and I heard the sound of fire crackling so I
think phil portrayed the red envelope smoking at the corners well.
However, I think one should be able to open the howler in sarah before it
explodes, because I have read in the fourth hp book that one of harry's
friends or himself, I can't remember whom, said you must open the howler
before it explodes.
That was when howlers was sent complaining about the kwiditch match.
If memory serves its chapter4, mayhem in the ministry. So that means that in
the wizardry world, people could open howlers before they explode.
Sarah's father's voice sounds cool through the howler, I just thought maybe
if sarah could open the howler before it explodes it would then read the
letter in another voice. Can any one tell me what did happened if someone
in the wizardry world opened a howler before it explodes?
If the answer lies in books 5 and 6, rather don't say anything as I want to
read up on it. I'm now busy reading where harry is in the prefect's
bathroom busy with the golden egg where his leg got stuck in the trick
step where snape and mooddy came across him.

 Hi Raul,
 I just answered that question!
When you are flying or stopped, hit tab and go to the broom and hit enter.

The broom enter is a toggle so every time you hit it within the inventory
it toggles the broom on and off.
Of course if it is a normal broom it just sweeps the floor.
What happens if you drop the broom while on it?
I have fixed this in the next patch so,
Sarah will fall from the air and go boom.

 Oh tar damian.

Perhaps by the time it's ready I will have recording sorted so that I
 won't
need to play on speakers and can reccord stuff in 3D, so maybe a
 casting
 of
the pod about the game might be possible.

A small learn game sounds menue deffinately sounds like a plan.

good luck with the developement, I'm pleased to here things are
 progressing,
even slowly, - I always think about the Tortoise in the parable
 in
 these

 it's
 a
good thought to have, sinse games can be well worth the wait in the

 Hi Damian.

As Phil says, it all depends upon the complexity of the game,
 especially
 if
it's 3D and involves targiting and the like or many different types
 of
 enemy.

I'd stil personally advise keeping it minimal though even in these
 cases
 so
there is stil a surprise and exploration element. I thought the
 menue
 in
Sarah was absolutely perfect, sinse it gave you all the tools you
 need
 to
start the game and not get confused, but there is stil more than
 enough
 to
discover for yourself, even for a game exploration nut like me.

Btw Damian, I'd be highly interested in beta testing work on bomb
 blaster
 if
you'd like (the game certainly sounds fun).

Of course, I'm sure lots of other people here would be interested
 in
applying for positions on the beta team as well, so it'll all
 depend
 upon
how you decide to handle beta tester applications etc.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

 Hi damien,
I always appreciate a sound describing feature and if I have no
 trouble
identifying sounds I do not need it but if I do have trouble it is
 important
 to have.
Of course certain sounds may be critical to game play like the tone
 when
 a
target is in your cross hairs of your gun.
If you have different creatures with different capabilities of killing
 you
then something to distinguish one from another is important.

To me, an audio game without a sounds menu is like a game without an
instruction manual. You have to know what to listen for in order to
 know
 what to do.

 Hi damien,
I always appreciate a sound describing feature and if I have no
 trouble
identifying sounds I do not need it but if I do have trouble it is
 important
 to have.
Of course certain sounds may be critical to game play like the tone
 when
 a
target is in your cross hairs of your gun.
If you have different creatures with different capabilities of
 killing
 you
then something to distinguish one from another is important.

do you think i should put any sort of learn game sounds in bomb

currently there isn't one but if people want it it's easily added,

playing in 2 or more people, it's not attached to any program, you
must run instant messengers by themselves and top speed 2 by itself.
It would like to be a good idea to develop something accessible,
which can be build in MSN and Skype's game manager

I think a tic tac toe game should be quite easy to develop
Sorry if it could seem absurd
But I think it would be nice to make blind and sighted people play

obviously i won't include every single bomb or every single machine or

 Hi Raul,
 I just answered that question!
When you are flying or stopped, hit tab and go to the broom and hit
 enter.

The broom enter is a toggle so every time you hit it within the
 inventory
it toggles the broom on and off.
Of course if it is a normal broom it just sweeps the floor.
What happens if you drop the broom while on it?
I have fixed this in the next patch so,
Sarah will fall from the air and go boom.

I admit that I feel rather stupid here. If this answer is in the
manual,
please redirect me there, but I could not find it. If Sarah is
 traveling
 by
broom, how can I make her walk again? Must I drop the broom from the
inventory? And, would I want her to walk again, or is traveling by
 broom
 the
 best.

Keep in mind that I have not even gotten past the first level as I
 have
 not
 had much time to play.

 Great game Phil BTW.

Its as easy as achio and harry would have get his wand back, now poor

I've decided to join in the discussion. heh. Anyhow, I know it seems that
Snape killed Albus, however how can we be absolutely sure of this? For one
thing, the killing curse does not blast you into the air. I don't believe
that even happened when Voldemort himself cast the spell. That's something
strange I found. Another thing is that Dumbledore trusted snape so much.
This was emphasized on Half blood prince. It'srather strange that after
placing so much emphasis on that trust, Dumbledore gets killed by Snape.
Also Dumbledore was begging to Snape. I'll bet anything he wasn't begging
for mercy. Dumbledore isn't scared of dying.

There's no blocking the killing curse, and Snape said the words aloud. And
if the curse didn't kill Dumbledore, the fall from the Astronomy tower

surely did. He was weak from that potion and so he wasn't able to defend
himself. And it's entirely possible that Albus was mistaken in his trust of
Snape. But this is getting way off topic.

 Possible Harry Potter spoiler.

He killed Albus. Isn't that clue enough as to who Severus is on the side
 of?

But JKR's righting the books, not the Fanfic authors. And as far as I'm
concerned Snape's a traitor unless and until JKR gives us reason to
 trust
 him again.

 Hi
Aw, come on thomas. If most fanfic authors have their way, good ol'
snape's just going really really deep cover, Dumbledore's not dead and
Harry's actually going to smarten up... *grin*

Anyways, sorry for going off topic.

 Brandon

I'm inclined to confuse the sound of a howler with the sound of a
dove.
When I heard the howler the first time, I seriously thought it was a
dove.
A dove brings peace and sarah's father brings anything else than peace,
lol.

Subject: [Audyssey] i'VE GOT THE HOWLER!

I'm so glad; I managed to get the howler! I'm so excited to receive my
product key; I posted my money long already!
Let me draw the spoiler line here before I unknowingly step on toes
again.

the howler is not as worse as i expected it. i expected that sarah's mom
is
going to scream like sarah would scream if she runs into the boggart
without
any charm protecting her. Since the manual indicates that only sarah's
father is in the game I thought he would  really scream, but he didn't;
he
just talked loudly as like over a huge sound syhstem or intercom.
You don't need to get all the magical items to get the howler. I got the
nimbus broom although it doesn't count as a magical item, then I got the
floot and glass ball, the necklace and old parchment and the pen knife.
My
time ran out before I could get the wand from the hufflepuff room. I
first
got the old parchment with the achio charm, then I went to the kitchen
and
collected the pen knife there, then I came to the staff room and took
the
necklace and then I took the floot and rememberal from the 2 classrooms
and
at that moment I heard the owel and I heard the sound of fire crackling
so I
think phil portrayed the red envelope smoking at the corners well.
However, I think one should be able to open the howler in sarah before
it
explodes, because I have read in the fourth hp book that one of harry's
friends or himself, I can't remember whom, said you must open the
howler
before it explodes.
That was when howlers was sent complaining about the kwiditch match.
If memory serves its chapter4, mayhem in the ministry. So that means
that in
the wizardry world, people could open howlers before they explode.
Sarah's father's voice sounds cool through the howler, I just thought
maybe
if sarah could open the howler before it explodes it would then read the
letter in another voice. Can any one tell me what did happened if
someone
in the wizardry world opened a howler before it explodes?
If the answer lies in books 5 and 6, rather don't say anything as I
want to
read up on it. I'm now busy reading where harry is in the prefect's
bathroom busy with the golden egg where his leg got stuck in the trick
step where snape and mooddy came across him.
