1) Set up your urpmi using http://www.urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php
2) install gimp2 using rpmdrake or urpmi

[Gimp-user] Help needed with Gimp Bugzilla

2004-05-07 Thread Tom . Williams

Ok, I've forgotten my Gimp Bugzilla password and I've requested the
password be sent to me. I was e-mailed the link to use to reset my
password:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/token.cgi?a={some mangled token}

and when I access that link I get 403 Forbidden errors. :(

You don't have permission to access /token.cgi on this server.

Additionally, I get teh same error when I try to list all of the open Gimp
bugs:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?product=GIMP&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED

Any ideas on what's going on?

Thanks in advance...

2004-05-07 Thread Tom . Williams

Depending on the JPEG quality threshold you specify, you might not see any
change in the image itself even though the file size WILL be smaller. This
is a GOOD thing to me. :)

Crank the image quality down to 10% and see if you see any quality
degredation. :) If you're specify quality in the 80 - 100% range, you
might not readily see any differences in image quality unless you look very
carefully.

Good luck!

Peace

Tom

Steve Crane,
Thanks for the tip. I have snipped the rest of your message for it is a
photograph.
I did not know about the Preview option in the save window. A point however
is
that with Gimp-2.0.1 I see the file size changing but nothing seems to
change in
the image. Is this old eyes or am I being thick again?

Glad that you liked it & thanks for the Gimp tip. I preferred the Sani Pass trip
but as the acehole who organised the trip rushed us up and down the pass as
though it was a rally I managed to miss getting some good images. When life
settles down, hopefully in the near future, I will organise my own trip. BTW Go
to the 4x4 images on my web to see my little 4x4 at the top of the pass with
it's Linux logo proudly displayed. This image BTW also appeared in the Linux
Journal.:-)
BTW2 All images on my webpages have received the benefit of Gimp at one stage or
another, mainly to cut out background and only leave the "interesting" part of
the image.

The Link you gave does not work.

Why isn't this discussed on gimp-devel?

In fact there is a vector based infrastructure and I also believe that
it is quite flexible. Simply fiddle a bit with the Path tool to get an
idea how this works.

Yes, it is not integrated in all the places where it should be, but it
definitely is there and it definitely is quite flexible (although I am
biased about that).

Maybe you should look at the code before drawing conclusions like "the
framework is kludge". I've put quite a lot of work into that stuff and
I'd like to see at least some reasons *why* it supposedly is a cludge.

Simon

Cinepaint has the drawing code. They took the vector drawing plugin
and made it work directly within the image.

The ex-plugin has a lot of room for improvements, but it is a start
of something.

>How many more of these articles must be written before the Gimp developers

But maybe they are not that easy to code? Adding a vector layer to
the images should be easy if the image object is good, but the vector
manipulations can be difficult. Typically each plugin has its own
kludge way to manipulate vector objects (selection tools, crop tool, etc).
The selection tool vector drawing and the crop tool vector drawing
are not visible in other views of the same image because the framework
is kludge.

What we need is a good old vertex/edge/polygon framework. We don't
have even the simplest systems developed at 1960s. Check out
  ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/sci/audio/devel/constraints/sketchpad.pdf
what I mean.

I'm figuring out what kind of framework would be ok. Anyone
would like to help?

I dwonloaded, unpacked, configured and ran make. Got this
error message:
/usr/lib/libgimp.so: undefined reference to `PLUG_IN_INFO'
It depends how you have built gimp.
Where did you built gimp-2.0?
On my system, the correct library is /usr/lib/libgimp-2.0 ...
Maybe you have to add a LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to tell
which lib is to be used (xsane 0.92 was built against gimp1.2
libraries).

Hints?
(xsane 0.92 compiled OK)

Please read up on ld (man ld). You will need to configure the location
of the gimp libraries, not the executable.

i just wanted to thank the gimp guys for that excellent work. i didn't have

this was the tricky part because we had ten versions of the mascot and always
had to change everything.
i used about 20++ layers ;-)
not even one crash - man you should have seen this!

Re: [Gimp-user] Gimp-2.0.1

2004-05-07 Thread Dave Neary
Hi Alf,

Alf C Stockton wrote:
I now, without too much trouble(thanks to a slick setup on Gimp's side) got

How do I now, to save space on my notebook, remove all previous versions of gimp
without breaking anything?
Depending on your OS, and how you installed it, this will be different.

If you installed the 1.2 series on Windows from Jernej's installer, you can
uninstall it. Similarly, if you installed from a package manager in a GNU/Linux
distro, you can uninstall the package.

On the other hand, if you installed 1.2 from source, you can run "make
uninstall" in the GIMP 1.2 source directory, and that will do the job.

Alternatively, you can delete everything in a gimp/1.3 and gimp/1.2 directory,
and everything in the appropriate lib directory that has libgimp*-1.3* or 1.2*.
This is probably the trckiest, and really isn't advisable :)

Cheers,
Dave.
