[Gimp-user] Script-fu changes?
Hello people. I wrote - quite a while ago - a script to make thumbnails, and modified it for 2.4.x. When I tried to run it in GIMP 2.6.3, it did work correctly, but the screen doesn't update as it should. When the image is scaled, the background doesn't clear, and the scaled image is shown in the upper left corner. The background isn't 'real', meaning it doesn't update when something is moved over. Difficult to put in words. An example is shown here: http://www.jcoppens.com/misc/tests/GIMP.jpg The 'hole' in the middle is where the script dialog was. Is there some extra 'cleanup' necessary in the latest versions? John ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
Re: [Gimp-user] from UFRaw to Gimp
A few days ago I explained a problem I was having in that when transferring an image from UFRaw to Gimp all I got was a thumbnail. Having taken into account many helpful suggestions I deleted from my Home directory every file and folder I could find which referred to ufraw. Then I re-installed gimp-ufraw 0.14.1 and the problem had disappeared. Why this should be I have no idea but it worked, so thanks to everyone who helped. [Gimp-user] Trying to make a mirror image.(Shadow)
http://www.nabble.com/file/p20747921/29b6_3.jpg I'm trying to make an image that looks like this. How can I make a photo of a car look like it is sitting on a mirror? I didn't do this one, someone else did. I'm sure they flipped and added some shading for the bottom of the car. The think I don't understand is how they flipped the image on two different axis to getting the Shadow image to look like that. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help or ideas.. Ken Hi The reflection image is a separate image, it cannot be created by mere transformation of the source image. That would be the easy way - I think this one was faked. If you look at the wheels - they are not flipped, and they appear to be copies of the wheels moved down. I imagine (total guesswork) they made a copy, flipped and rotated (sheared?), and erased everything but the side of the car. Then did the same thing for the front. Then they had to fabricate the bottom of the car (looks fake to me). Finally, it looks like they just copied the wheels and moved them down, and possibly made a few more small copied areas to stitch it all together. That's a bag of pain - the best way would be to photo the model while it's sitting on a mirror. Then you could add extra fade-out to the reflection in GIMP - much less painful... Ken Hi The reflection image is a separate image, it cannot be created by mere transformation of the source image. - Martin It really appears to be a single image with the object resting on a mirror or reflective surface. Now if you want to achieve a reverse image effect something like the letter A sitting atop an upside down A, you can easily do that in GIMP by combining two images. There are also some _javascript_, probably Mootools, library effects that you can use to achieve a similar effect. Chris Chris, Yes you seen what I seen with the wheels being copied. (not flipped) Check out the center spinners on the hub caps. Same as the above photo. You have a good idea with the mirror, BUT this is a real car not a model. Thanks for you input. This is almost surely a 3D model, rendered using a 3D program such as 3D studio, or open source renderers such as POV-ray. The reflection is correct - if you look at the headlights, which are pointing slightly down in the direct view, you'll note that they are larger in the reflection. If you want an example of what can be done, have a look at: http://oyonale.com/variations.php?lang=en Look for reflections in windows, water, drops, etc. Just amazing.
