As far as I know there is no "indexer" in Gimp... Gimp doesn't search
pictures, it edits them. If Gimp is correctly installed, once you have
found the picture (by any means..., ) opening it with Gimp is one of the
choices...

Picasa is a photomanager with some editing capabilities, Gimp is just a
powerful image editor. You can keep managing your pictures with Picasa,
and you can edit them with Gimp once you have located them in Picasa
(Gimp is likely a choice in the right click menu).

I now tried it with gimp-2.8.14-5.mga6 on Mageia Linux x86-64 v6 on XFCE, and
was not able to reproduce it. 2.8.14 was released over a year ago according to

[Gimp-user] GIMP stops working -- please help.

2015-09-12 Thread TKK

Dear folks,

Gimp 2.8.14 for Windows
Windows 7

I love GIMP. I've been working with it for years.

A couple weeks ago, GIMP 2.8.14 stopped working on my computer. I have a Toshiba
Qosmio that runs Windows 7. (I know. *Windows.*) I have not downloaded any new
programs or had a Windows update that I know of.

Gimp starts up okay, and then I get about 3 clicks (any 3 clicks, not a
particular set of commands,) and then it stops responding. It doesn't shut down,
but it won't respond. Even if I'm in the middle of opening a file, clicking
within the Open File window doesn't do anything. If I've opened something and
have started doing something, like selecting an area, then I can't change tools
or select or deselect any more. The keyboard shortcuts, arrow keys, track pad,
etc., also don't work.

I have to start the Task Manager to close Gimp. In the Task Manager, it says
that Gimp is "running."

Inkscape is doing the same thing.

Things I've tried that have not worked:

Changing the name of AND deleting the "settings" file in the Users folder
Uninstalling and reinstalling (I know it's not supposed to help, but I tried
it.)
Doing both of the above at the same time.
Restoring my computer to a restore point back when GIMP was working.
Removing the wireless mouse and just using the trackpad.
Above and trying the arrow keys or shortcut commands.
Just waiting for 30 minutes to see if it's horrendously slow. (nope.)
Closing other programs or processes via Task Manager.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I don't want to have to get Photoshop. I really
don't.

Thank you in advance,
TK

[Gimp-user] Feature request Shear with wrap-around

2015-09-12 Thread Ben321
The shear tool only supports clipping currently (as of Gimp version 2.8), but I
am using it right now for a particular task which requires wrap-around of the
pixels rather than clipping. That is, I need it to take the pixels shifted off
the side of the image in the process of shearing to be shifted onto the other
side of the image. Can you Gimp developers add this feature? Please. It's really
important for what I'm using it for right now.

[Gimp-user] [Gimp 2.8] Pencil Cursor doesn't move with mouse cursor

2015-09-12 Thread Lucrecious
In Gimp 2.8, when I move my mouse, the cursor itself moves (the pointer with the
little pencil symbol beside it), but the area that represents the pencil on the
canvas (the square, circle or whatever), doesn't. The area that represents the
pencil on the canvas only moves after I stop moving the pointer.

What's wrong? It there an option I need to set so that the area position updates
as I move the mouse?

This is one of the most frustrating things I've found in Gimp 2.8.

PS: I used the pencil tool as an example, but it happens with everything else.
The brush tool, the eraser tool, the selection tool (when I try to drag a
selection box, the box size doesn't update until I stop move the mouse for a
little bit).

[Gimp-user] Quick question - Text warping

2015-09-12 Thread Callamity
Good afternoon all,

I'm trying to warp text to form a semi-panoramic view but all I can find is
wrapping text along a path and using IWarp, but neither is working correctly. I
used IWarp to flex the top of the text upwards, but I want to keep the bottom of
the text to stay flat and unflexed. Am I using the correct functions or is
there a different function? I'm not asking for a step by step tutorial, I'm
just trying to confirm what feature(s) name I should be using.

In the attachment I'm trying to have the tops of the letters curve like the top
example while the bottom of the text stays down flat as the bottom text is, but
all be a single word.

Thank you in advance!

[Gimp-user] space bar to move around, not enable disable in an other window

2015-09-12 Thread Hexi
Hello,
I have been using GIMP for a while, but I'm still a learner.
I have searched for similar topics but never found a solution to my problem.

There is something that is driving me crazy : when I click on a layer to turn it
off or on, and then I want to move around my image by pressing the space bar
(and moving my mouse), it turns on/off the layer I just clicked on.

If I want the space bar to move my image again, I have to click on my image
first, and then press space bar.

I cannot understand how that can be useful. Maybe it is for some people, but I
just want the space bar to move my image, and NOTHING ELSE, regardless of the
last button I clicked on. If I want to turn on or off a layer, I just click on
it.

Is there a way to force the space bar to do the action "move image with mouse",
regardless of the last button I clicked on, and without having to click in the
middle of my image first? One more thing, I know that the scrollwheel click does
exactly what I am asking for, but I want this functionality to work when I press
space bar because... I hate clicking on the scrollwheel.

Thank you for your answer, even in the case you just tell me that cannot be
done.
...
I would probably cry. A lot.

It's possible using something like BIMP (Batch Image processing in GIMP),

You do know that .atn files are actions, not images, right?

GIMP doesn't support those out of box. GIMP# has a plugin for applying
Photoshop actions, but it's a partial support, and there's no
guarantee GIMP# works on modern GIMP reliably.

What OS? What version? Which version of GIMP? What else is running?

I know that in some OS, a selection on a dialog can be activated through
pressing the spacebar - perhaps what is happening is that your passing a
selection/entry to the last active dialog (in your case it sounds like the
layer visibility check?). Can you just use your middle mouse button to
pan, or bind the modifier for panning to a different key?

I missed some postings, but I have documentation about EGA cards.

The colors were from a palette of 64 colors, with each bit corresponding
to a separate wire. Low-intensity colors have a high

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_monochrome_and_RGB_palettes#6-bit_RGB

The 16 default CGA colors were mapped to the EGA color values
00 01 02 03 04 05 14 07 38 39 3a 3b 3c 3d 3e 3f
(everything like CGA, where only one high intensity bit was available,
 except for brown, because 0x06 looked bad on some screens)

The VGA cards will emulate these 64 colors by having default 6-bit color
values in their 256 color registers. The high bit corresponds to 0x15, the
low bit to 0x2a, giving a total of 0x3f (white). For 8 bits, I'll use 0x55
and 0xAA for a corresponding appearance. E.g. the brown (0x14) is
green (0x10->#005500) + dark red (0x40->#aa) -> #aa5500.

 EGAColor  8-bit
 0x20 = dark red,  #55
 0x10 = dark green #005500
 0x08 = dark blue  #55
(0x38 = dark gray, emulates the CGA intensity bit)
 0x04 = bright red #aa
 0x02 = bright green   #00aa00
 0x01 = bright blue#aa

The VGA 256-color-default-palette is yet something different, available on
http://objectmix.com/graphics/383737-vga-palette.html (to convert to 8 bit,
left-shift by 2 and add the lower 2 bits)
