[Goanet] Goan Women: A Doorway To The World?
At some time or other you must have heard this comment: Goa is not India! It is a cliche, and we all know a cliche is a truth - a self evident statement of fact. A secret everybody knows! The Portuguese were in Goa as the British were in a large part of India. Some Muslims ruled parts of India; Muslims societies were and are conservative in India and abroad. The position of women was not strong in Muslim societies where the men controlled the women. The British women were goddesses. And, the men were of course gods. They were representatives of a higher race whose job was seen as the white man’s burden. They did not mix with the locals. The Portuguese were not racists unlike the British. They mixed freely with the locals and embraced the culture including the local Goan women enthusiastically. Now this mix of Goan and European blood made, as they say, the dish spicier than ever and became popular with the Portuguese and Goans too. Viewed in this soft romantic light the words Goa is not India is easily understandable. The Goan woman especially needs to be appreciated for offering her open heart and soul and body to the Portuguese men, our colonial masters. Had she not done it we would have heard something like this today: Goa is no different from other parts of India. No. Goa is not India!
[Goanet] Why is our government dedicated to destroying Goa?
Money and power are above love of country as we all know! And, our politicians love both more than Romeo loved Juliet. Mining destroyed the fields but former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stopped it. Now, he is dead and government wants to restart ming? Not enough destruction? Yes, sadly not enough. Destroy more green fields and agriculture, and promote mining too? Don’t allow mining dust to blind you to lies and meaningless idiotic government policies. Coal transportation? Another to blacken the hearts of Goans. Goa Government wants to promote tourism and transportation of coal to Karnataka too? Both are impossible. Choose one. Again, I say, don’t allow coal dust to blind you. Government and our iconic corrupt politicians want to make money, and if people living in Goa die in the process from lung related ailments - what is the problem? Government wants big bridges - the bigger the better - because there is more money for them the politicians. Why make a train link which allows us to travel to all the major towns in Goa without a car? Who cares for the voter except only before the elections? No trains linking our towns and cities, no private buses to increase jobs for Goans and make commuting easier only control of everything by the state government, why? Yes, state control of everything is necessary for politicians to rob and rob and rob.
[Goanet] Am I Mistaken?
Today is All Souls Day, right? and i am expected to be prayerful and go to church and visit the grave and all that. On this day religionists tell us what to do and we become full of religious fever but it is a one day celebration of our ancestors. It happens once a year to remind us we have ancestors and did not fall off the shelf - just like that? Sometimes we are controlled by religionists and at other times by politicians and society at large. What a joke! We are told how great someone is and how we should support him by a government which is elected every four or five years. And then a new government arrives which chooses a new hero who we are told again is the true hero and not the other - and we need to celebrate him! Yes, him more often than not! A man even after raping a woman is worth much more and the woman has to compete with none other than a cow? And, there are a lot of one day celebrations: Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and the lists is long. What is short is this: do as you are told! Is this the freedom of expression we talk and take great pride in as members of society? Is our freedom of expression an illusion?
[Goanet] Don’t Allow A Stray To Lead You Astray!
This government has surprised everyone by asking people to join in to improve road safety in Goa. For the first time the public has been invited to join in something which affects their lives. Do you smell a rat or do you have you a cold? No consultation on other major issues especially double tracking, taking away flights from Dabolim Airport to Mopa Airport, and the future location of IIT - only road safety in Goa? Why? Anyway, something is better than nothing? The condition of the roads are a matter of life and death, and for this reason you get invited? It is not a complex problem only complicated by this and other previous governments because the heads of the governments are always buried in the sands of Goa. Arrogance all year long with Diwali as a holiday? Too great a number of cars and not enough space? How do we measure sustainability and road safety? At least a dedicated parking lot which is mandatory! Will the government do it or they don’t have the political will and courage? No Chief Minister like Manohar Parrikar anymore? People in Goa park anywhere and everywhere and for this reason among others there are too many cars in too small a space. And of course bad roads will increase road accidents. The bad roads along with bad road lights which too often are not working for one reason or another coupled with pot holes on the roads are no less a homemade recipe for fatal accidents! Is the government guilty of murder and who will take responsibility? Drinking and driving is not the only reason for road accidents fatal or not. Transport Minister please take note carefully. No need to hammer this point to death. Make sure a driver’s license is a reward for being able to drive properly and not a reward for under the table arm wrestling. This is one way to road safety. Other people can add additional points to make the roads safe and not death traps. As they say, last but not least are the stray dogs who often are a cause of accidents for people who ride on two wheelers as the dogs suddenly come to life and doggedly chase the vehicle. If there is a pot hole it might be a small grave which might not be a tight fit but is fatal all the same.
[Goanet] Sorrowing Lies My Tourism In Goa!
Chief Minister Sawant needs to be given a round of applause as he has promised 2 lakh jobs for people who live in the coastal area. Bravo! Governments promise jobs and often do not deliver! How many jobs has this government promised and how many jobs have been given to Goans based on their promises from the past? Please provide statistics so we can build confidence in this Government’s promise. The people also want to know the broad outline of the tourism plan and benefits otherwise we will have to accept the cynical claim of some people: it is to increase the number of matka bookies and vote bank! Taxi drivers are unhappy because the Transport Minister wants to station taxis outside pubs and bars and tavernas. I like the idea but again we need to know how many bars and how many taxis exist so there can be at least one taxi outside one bar. I am told there are many more bars than taxis. Not bad news, this. If the bars exceed the number of taxis here is a great opportunity to give jobs to local Goans. The Transport Minister’s plan can be be used in support of the Chief Minister goal which is provide 2 lakh jobs to local Goans living along the coast. Mopa is morbid news for the hotel industry and stakeholders along the coasts as hoteliers have taken loans to build their hotels and Mopa is eating into their ability to pay back the loans. They want government to cancel the loans. Why is the tourism policy favoring the north of Goa and why a stepfatherly treatment for the people in the south? The government should not create a situation where the taxi drivers and stakeholders have to go to war with their counterparts in the north of Goa. Use wisdom in policy making otherwise Goa will sink even deeper into violence. Not a single flight should be diverted to the Mopa airport as it means bad news for the tourism industry in the south because of a big loss in income for all stakeholders. Mopa airport was hyped to be a cargo hub and government needs to keep to its word. With mining shut down by the late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar tourism is the only hen which lays the golden eggs. Let us not slaughter the hen or the tourism party in Goa will be as alive as a dead duck.
[Goanet] Father, Forgive Me ….
Roman Catholic tradition changes slowly and is different from Protestantism. While Roman Catholics ask God to forgive them the Protestants say this: we do our part, and God will do His! God unfortunately is a male in Christianity, no chance for a woman God. The Jews, and what followed, were patriarchal societies so what’s new? Women even today have got the right to vote but are struggling hard to get equal rights in the Roman Catholic Church. Slow progress for a long history of 2200 years. Most women don’t like ribs, and men should know why! In an interesting movie I heard a character say: the Devil made me do it. We need to take responsibility for our wrong actions, and not make the Devil responsible for all our wrongdoing. Otherwise belief in God or not we will continue as a psychological wreck. Not God or asking for forgiveness will liberate us from our psychological hell on earth, only a feeling of deep remorse. The Protestant religion shows us a more mature psychology as they do not run away from individual responsibility. We need to ask the people we harm for forgiveness, and not only God which is easy. Otherwise we might sing: the Devil made me do it!
[Goanet] Words & Technology
The meaning of words changes with the frequency of the seasons, and truth from thousands of years aka translated truth is as authentic as plastic. In my youth telephone technology meant we dialed the phone and when the phone rang we answered it. Nowadays, he who answers the phone has to listen to music more often than not. Sometimes you get to hear a lovely tune though not often enough I suspect. The other day a woman said she would ping me. I got got it honey although a few seconds late. Can a man say to a woman: I am going to ping you! Educate me. A university student of mine in Japan looking at a pic in her textbook asked me: Sir, what is this? A manual typewriter I replied. A lot of young people have never heard of music records. And, the list goes on. We who belong to various nations need to keep up with technology and international companies around the world. We need to change our mindset or at least give it a try. The next time you meet me I will tell you I am from the planet Earth and believe it or not - I am an Earthling! Now you may think this is strange - wait until the Spacemen arrive and start an undeclared war. If Putin can do it why not green people from Mars or who the hell knows!
[Goanet] The Miracle
Few people are aware I was seriously ill a few weeks ago. I was taken in an ambulance to the hospital where the doctors gave up all hope of my surviving for more than a day or two. I was in a coma. Believe it or not but I was pronounced dead as a nail. Body was brought home and two priest arrived who said some prayers. There was no funeral as we are living now in a morbid time, why pour oil on fire? The body was put in a coffin and taken to the cemetery where it was buried. A couple of hours later I awoke. When I opened my eyes I could feel the wood above and I instantly threw my hands up which heaved the lid of the coffin and to the side. God given strength nothing less! The mud gradually fell on my face and body but I stood tall in the grave and stepped out of it. The grave did not reflect the joy on my face. When I knocked on the front door it was already dark. Parvati my chef opened the door and I swear her eyes popped out almost reaching to her forehead. I said: I’m back! Parvati lost her balance and fell down. She lost consciousness. I immediately asked for an ambulance and she taken to the hospital. For people who are worried about her please don’t worry as she has made a speedy recovery.
[Goanet] Away He Goes?
Is It Sayonara For Rahul Gandhi? I feel much safer in Japan with all the seismic political shocks taking place in Goa and even people who swear by God and the Church are shameless! Of the 18 runaways the Roman Catholic MLAs are standing out not in a good way but bad and are a sore thumb. Is God all powerful but cannot make the Roman Catholics in Goa honest? We had a sense of moral superiority growing up as we said we are Roman Catholics and honest and do not indulge in corruption as it was something for members of other communities. We believe in God! Today, we continue to believe in Goa but are corrupt up to our eyebrows. Yes, we believe in God only in a different way! Goa has only two representative members of parliament and rumor has it that our infamous MP of TMC is going back to Goa to join the Congress Party. Is he the prodigal son? Does Sonia Gandhi who is a Roman Catholic have a good or great sense of humor? Is she welcoming Luizinho Falero back into the Congress Party? Does she think Goa Congress deserves him? With eminent advocate Carlos Alvares wanting to bring his bosom pal aka 16B into the Congress Party will the lawyer go down in Goa politics as the man who hit the last nail bulls eye into the Congress coffin?
[Goanet] Undeclared War Has Started!
The war between the activists and the proponents of changes to the Town and Country Act has begun and needs to be sorted out in a democratic way. Not something resembling a bulldozer operation at a time when the tourism season has just begun: we do not want to scare off the tourists at the start of the season, do we? As you all know Goa is the drug and operation capital of the country with a lot of crime and murders too. Not at all a welcome poster for the state. Nowadays the biggest sport in Goa is not soccer but Jumping Frog with MLAs crossing the floor of our Legislative Assembly as if it is an established dance similar to jive or chi cha. No this dance is much more shocking than the entertainment provided by the sleaziest spots in town. Disgusting! The discussion has to be held in the open for all to see as it appears to be coming from the brains of a few people. The Regional Plan was a a long and hotly discussed potato, and for this reason we cannot take the changes to TCP Act lightly. The people of Goa will not take things sitting down especially after our MLAs have stood up and walked across the Assembly floor fully exposed. They have so far not slipped on any banana skins but the dance has not ended. Not yet. And please remember how we can see on a clear day forever. No pollution, please.
[Goanet] God Spoke To Me Last Night!
Now, don’t get your jealousy up: God spoke to me last night. I am the fourth person God has spoken to in history: Moses, Jeanne D’arc, Digamber Kamat and me. What an honor! He warned me to be careful of Diggu as he will become Chief Minister and will say: I told you Goans that I did what God wanted me to do and now I am Chief Minister. And, CM Sawant? He will be kicked up to heaven and become a minister in Delhi. Unlike Moses, God did not give me any new commandants as He says the people think ten are more than enough. God whispered in my ear. The ten and now another eight Judases of the Congress Party should resign immediately, and then they should contest the elections again or they and their families will become garbage on top of the famous hill. The MLAs won the election on the Congress Party ticket and made promises to the voters who wanted the Congress Party to come to power. Forget the rest: God, devil and el. The voters must gather and protest in front of the successful MLAs houses, says God. If they don’t want to do it then they must share the bribery money of 40 crore per MLA with their voters in each constituency minus the 2000rs or 3000rs or 4000rs bribe given to each voter. He mentioned the name of a Hindu which surprised me: Viswajit Rane. This man God said has respect for the electoral process and walks the talk. He first resigned from the Congress Party and was reelected on a BJP ticket. Is he the exception to the rule? I don’t know if it is true or not. I do know one rotten apple can destroy all the other apples …. If you don’t believe me ask Adam. You can call him on this number: 2 (two) 8 (ate) 1 (apple) Good luck!
[Goanet] 10 + 8 = 0 …?
Now, this is not Vedic math and no need to laugh and insult our way of thinking from our glorious past. Goan are reeling at the inhuman behavior of our politicians who are tank full of greed and no longer care for reason and morality. If I can get away with it is great and no worries - join me. The honest and good people are welcome to go to hell. Our eighteen frogs who have no conscience and who are poor persuaders although overtime crooks with a passion to rob anyone and everyone need to think again. What does the future hold for them? If 40 crores was given to each Judas then 720 crores was given away in all. Chicken feed this! The new amendments and laws and more coming will go beyond loosening suits and ties and will involve taking off much more. When laws to prevent protection of the environment go for a toss it means the environment is dead meat and anything goes. The MLAs have undergone a deep religious experience and are willing to die for their insatiable greed - come what may! For this reason I say Goa is gone: zero!
[Goanet] Double Take: Is this for Real?
MLA Carlos of Congress Party from Aldona constituency yesterday knocked me off my chair, and fortunately, this old man’s back did not break although my brain got hit by high voltage. A few days ago the MLA said it was fortunate the 8 runaway Congressmen escaped to the BJP as it is an opportunity to do a clean up. So far so good. As I said earlier, yesterday, he made a statement MLA Vijay Sardessai aka 16B a man of a formidable reputation for doing a major and blatant illegality should be invited to join the Congress Party. Unbelievable! I have nothing personal against Vijay as I don’t know him and never met him but his wrongdoing is known to people all over the state, and there is no need to explain it to anyone. I have met advocate Carlos once and follow his statements and analysis quite often, and know this much: he is well educated and articulate, and appears to be a man of character. His wanting to invite Vijay into the Congress Party has made me drunk with confusion even though I swear not a drop of our beloved cajun fenny has been imbibed. Is the latest Covid virus a threat to the Goan brain? Please explain!
[Goanet] Good Morning?

[Goanet] God Is Nature And Nature Is God!
No one is as irreligious as a politician; don’t be fooled by claims of belief in God or visits to churches, temples and mosques. It is all tiatr. Politicians in our unique Goa are buyable commodities, and we live in a Buyocracy. The difference is the price tag. When anyone goes against nature they are going against God; forget what all the holy books and story books have to say - they are full of holes and collapse on close scrutiny. Without nature we will soon be dead, not without belief systems. We can live without a belief system and nothing will happen to us; we will not suffer from hallucinations, and in fact be more healthy than believers. But without nature we will be dead. When we cannot breathe freely see what happens; after a few minutes life becomes hell and soon we are on our way out! Our irreligious politicians in Goa want to transform this tourist paradise into a coal hub. They want to destroy nature and destroy God. The good people of Goa must stand against this great evil who cares for money only and nothing else. People can breathe in coal dust and die, do they care? Zilch! We must destroy the wicked and evil politicians before they destroy nature and God and make it impossible for people to be alive. They must go! Good people need to take over and usher in a new day.

[Goanet] India vs Sri Lanka!
No, it is not cricket I am talking about - no, it is the economy! While India is rushing to give a hand to Sri Lankans who are angry with their president and have occupied the corridors of power here is a Buddhist nation who rejected the caste system a long time ago saying - enough is enough! India’s economy is not doing well on almost each and every front - yet we manage! Are we Indians more spiritually advanced than our neighbor Sri Lanka? I am not an economist micro or macro but i have eyes - even though they have weakened over the years making it difficult to read the fine print. I think we manage the economy the same way as the government. When the government needs money they simply raise the price of this and that - problem solved! If a vegetable seller was earning 30% profit and with Covid visiting - what to do? He simply raises the costs by 30%! Now this principle is applicable to a lot of stores coffee shops included. No need to decrease the margin of profit everyone thinks when all we have to do is raise the price. Only one dark lining on the silver cloud. The consumer whom we do not trust may decide to pay 30% more for his vegetables but not for his coffee. While Covid might be good business for the coffin makers it has also been good news for some other businesses. Are you in good company?

[Goanet] Pandhayat Elections
Do You Smell the Coffee or a Rat? Rumors doing the rounds about the postponement of elections has cast a dark shadow over our government. While the court wants the panchayat election to be held on time, the government wants to have it at a later date. The administrator is now the interim sarpanch which villagers feel is an ominous sign of things to come. They say several projects have been stopped because of breaking some rule or the other and the administrator has to be watched constantly and carefully otherwise he might shut one eye and close the other. Activists are curious to see which projects will be passed before the sarpanches are back in their chairs. Neither the panches nor the sarpanches are happy about the situation. A lot of people believe it is realistic to expect to see a rat in the coffee.

[Goanet] Democracy Or Buyocracy?
Never mind that turd who said India would fall into the hands of corrupt people and crooks - Winston Churchill as much as I despise you - you were right! Decades ago our country started to slide when we Indians changed our loyalties and principles for a new philosophy - what’s in it for me? Our dead ancestors and dead freedom fighters have died for what? Dancing MLAs or jumping frogs as the popular label goes is no deeper than wink wink. The rot in our democracy is extensive today and a mirror of Indian society - of us. We stand for elections from a particular political party and when we win we change our party or support a party we criticized strongly when offered tasty monetary pedas or bebinca. We cannot say no and sell everything and ourselves happily. Where is the Indian voter in this scenario? Bought and sold at a discount or a few thousand rupees. They do not dare open their mouths for they know what they have done and accept their karma. How do we fix this mess?

[Goanet] In The Name Of God
All through history belief in God has created tremendous suffering, and wars for people all over the world. The two world religions - Christianity and islam - are the leading violent forces for defending their belief in God ranging from the sword to nuclear weapons! The only time so far nuclear weapons have been used is against a Buddhist country. The scenario may change in future. Religions which do not believe in God have nothing to defend: so far, no atheists has gone to war to prove the sacredness of their belief - there is no God. Religion is not the cause: belief in God is the evil force. Will the day come when people who believe in God - will stop killing for their belief in God? India has been for millennia a country where religion is a search for truth - and not a belief system. For this reason India is known as a spiritual country for millennia. But nowadays India is changing and is looking more and more like Christianity and Islam - and no longer a country of seekers after truth. Wars will continue as human beings have to kill. Maybe it is a part of our evolutionary historical process. But at least we should stop killing one another in the name of religion, shouldn’t we?
[Goanet] Anti Conversion Law Need Of the Hour!
People should not be converted from one religion to another! That’s it! No more talk! Once a person is born into a particular religion s/he should live, breathe, eat and drink that religion. And, most of all s/he should not be allowed to change the religion! My only worry is the limitation set - why only religion? Add economics and politics, social theories and science and a few more subjects to the list. No one should be allowed to change his or her mind until they die. Now this is the best way to protect out identity. If you are born a Shudra you must die a Sudra! Don’t get any demonic dream which will allow you to change your caste. This will destroy our identity and make our country and nation weak as in the USA and European countries. We need a model like China and Pakistan. In future people should stand up for their rights and not be silent sheep and accept everything mildly. No conversion of political views, economic views, religious, social or any other views. Don’t hurt my economic feelings, give wealth to a few people, forget the others. Vote for only one political party! If this Bill is introduced immediately there will be great advantages. No need even for elections.
[Goanet] I Salute the Indian Army - Which One?
India is burning and it is something no Indian wants to see! Please do not create two armies: one for First Class Indians and the other for Second Class Indians. The Constitution is the same constitution for all Indians irrespective of caste, class, gender. Please do not destroy the values enshrined in the constitution. The British discriminated against Indians in a hundred and one ways. All Indians fought against this discrimination to attain our freedom. After becoming a free and independent nation we do not want to fight our own elected government. All Indians want a committed army. The Indian army has fought wars against the Chinese and Pakistanis. Our is a loyal and committed army. We cannot have two armies - one with great terms of employment and the other part-time or limited contract workers who have a half hearted commitment and loyalty to the nation. Our government is showing disrespect to the armed forces after they have made great sacrifices for the nation including laying down their lives for the nation. The people of India will not and cannot accept this discrimination and ingratitude to the armed forces. They die so we can sleep peacefully at night.

[Goanet] Rane vs Lobo?
Will TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane Really Take On Congress MLA Michael Lobo? The gloves are off but will the fight begin? TCP Minister Rane has said the two illegal Baga hotels built in CRZ will be demolished by him. Will it happen? Let’s look into other related issues to understand better the situation as it is is complicated and complex. If he does it then he will also have to demolish hundreds of other houses in CRZ. The law cannot be applied selectively. Which raises another issue: a lot of the houses belong to people from outside Goa. Delhi does not like it when illegal houses are demolished as it creates a knotty problem for the BJP government. Then government tends to look at the situation with the eyes of Dracula on a full moon night. Can TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane look into the Draculian eyes of BJP at the Center? It will take courage - can he will he do it? If he walks the talk then he will go down in Goa’s history as a much bigger hero than his father!

[Goanet] Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte: Are You for Coal Pollution or for Tourism?
Goa’s dynamic and avant garde Tourism Minister sometimes leaves me perplexed. His interest in taking Goa’s tourism to a sky high level with helicopters in the air leaves me speechless. Our basic infrastructure, as you know only too well, is not in place with garbage everywhere giving visitors the impression it is a part of our cultural identity. We have a garbage temple on top of a hill for all to see and if you are blind don’t worry as you will know about it from the stench. Basic and regular water supply is a dream for a lot of Goans as well as uninterrupted power. I am not against helicopters but we need to be realistic - first things first! The great juggernaut approaching are millions of tons of coal which MPA and SW Railways want to bring to Goa and which the Goan people are strongly against for obvious reasons. Who wants to breathe in coal all their life when we have a choice. As the coal is headed for Karnataka the Adani’s can take it directly to the state and there is no need to turn Goa our coastal tourism state into a coal hub. People in Vasco have suffered enough, no need to make the whole of Goa a smoked filled state. Coal pollution and tourism do not go together. We have to choose one or the other. Maybe the only people who will not have to breathe in coal dust are the super rich tourists who are flying above cloud nine. Mr Tourism Minister on which side of the issue do you stand - the people of Goa want a short and clear answer. If Goa becomes a coal hub it will be the end of tourism and the Goan environment as we know it. With reduced tourism there will be a tsunami of unemployment and the government’s inability to create jobs will only get worse as people cannot be retrained overnight resulting in massive unemployment. What is your stand on the issue of coal pollution and tourism Mr Rohan Khaunte Goa’s Tourism Minister?
[Goanet] Sale Deeds - for the Dead of the Dead and by the Dead
The shocking revelation which surfaced recently of how a group of Roman Catholics have been selling properties of people who are no longer alive has created a storm in the hearts of this community. Or should have! Some members of this community expressed their opinion that this is selective targeting! They are not at all afraid or ashamed to learn of this great wrongdoing and evil - all that they are concerned is the absence of reporting of the same with regard to other communities if true or not! Is this breaking news worse than the crimes themselves? Goan hypocrisy at its best? I don’t know if God is shocked or not but our ancestors must be rocking and rolling in their graves!

[Goanet] Goa Chief Minister Felicitates Mine Owners!
Some of the activists are disgruntled because Chief Minister Sawant felicitated the so-called mine owners who have had their leases cancelled making mining a shut down business for now, and the foreseeable future. The miners have supported this government and others in the past. The Chief Minister is showing his refinement and gratitude. The miners have wasted a golden opportunity over the decades because their culture did not go beyond the bank. All they understood in the past is money. For decades they visited probably the richest culture in Asia - Japan - and brought back a zero. We could have had by now some of their traditional cultural wealth - schools of flower arrangement, judo, karate, zen gardens, calligraphy, bonsai and more. A few did open colleges which is a major contribution as students who wanted to further their education did not have to go all the way to Bombay and Bangalore. The Chief Minister is showing his appreciation to the few who were pioneers of higher education in Goa. He seems to be influenced by Hindu and Buddhist thinking, wanting to end a chapter in a nice way.

[Goanet] IsThe Late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Alive or Dead?
Prime Miniter Modi’s government has imposed a 50% tax on the export of Goan ore from 0% to 50% making it no longer a player in the game. The new tax and quality of our ore means: Shop Closed! We need to recall that even before the court, it was the late CM Manohar Parrikar who shut dow the mines. Ever since attempts have been made to revive this cadaver unsuccessfully! Our young and dynamic Chief Minister Sawant dashed off to Delhi to try and convince the people in power to reduce the tax. Can he convince them? Have the people in power forgotten what the late Chief Minister and Defense Minister did? I doubt it. They appear to be putting his wishes into practice. Ever since Goa saw the last of the Portuguese leave the so-called mine owners have bank rolled the elections from the victory of the first political party the MG Party to the Congress to the BJP. Thank you, sir. Now, they are no longer needed and as the public knows only too well, they have abused the terms of their leases which made CM Parrikar shut down the mines. The people of Goa are grateful to him and have not forgotten his efforts to protect the environment and interests of Goa. CM Sawant knows he has to do something or be seen to do something. That is the name of the game - the mining dependent people expect this much. But the message from the Centre is different? Is CM Manohar Parrikar protecting Goa’s environment and interests beyond the grave? Thank you Prime Minister Modi for imposing the massive export tax! The people of Goa do not want to breathe in any more iron ore dust. Their lungs have taken enough of a beating with all kinds of diseases which were a part of their everyday lives. Finally the people of Goa are free of the iron ore dust problem. Our CM Sawant wants to make Goa self reliant in agriculture. This is good news, very good news. I wish him luck! I appeal to Prime Minister Modi to do the same with coal. Goa is a tourist state and we want MPA to use the port for cruises and boat clubs and not the transportation of coal which is going to another state. What do we gain by destroying the backbone of the Goan economy? Only pollution and massive unemployment.
[Goanet] Agri-Industry Added Value: Organic Restaurants in Organic Fields
Goa's agriculture deserves more than a shot in the arm to be successful or just survive; nothing less than a through transfusion is necessary. Giving small subsidies to farmers, please note, is a little like trying to apply a band-aid on a patient who is at death's end. With the high cost of labour and the abundance of vegetables and fruit from outside Goa pouring in, at prices the local producers cannot hope to compete with, what passes for agricultural support in Goa is simply not enough. We have along way to go. Organic farmers markets are the need of the hour. In every village there should be an organic farmers market where farmers, and farmers only, are allowed to sell their produce. Rice, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and so on, can be sold in these markets by farmers from the village only through their extended restaurants. The farmers, in this way, will get a much greater profit margin . They also will be better able to compete with the produce from outside the State and Goa can become self sufficient to a large extent in fruit and vegetables. Agricultural land will become more lucrative and farmers won't have to dispose of their land to builders; no conversion of land should be allowed as these are farmers markets! In general natural food farming should be encouraged, so villagers can benefit from the food which is free of dangerous chemicals. Kitchen gardens can be included in this marketing strategy: individuals, too, who live in the villages should be allowed to sell their produce in local approved spaces. It will help to raise the standard of health in the village and provide additional income to village households. As the truism goes - we are what we eat - and so, let's eat right.
[Goanet] No Management Course for Dogs n Fruit n Vegetables!
I was sitting in a partly open coffee shop yesterday drinking a cup of coffee when my thoughts were disturbed by this woman who was trying to shoo a couple of dogs away who were sitting under her table. The dogs showed attitude and turned a dead ear to her requests. She continued doggedly to shoo them away. I could see the frustration in her eyes. She looked at me as if to say: why can’t these dogs allow me to eat my masala dosa in peace? The owner of the restaurant who is also the waiter was busy reading the newspaper absorbed fully in some scam to be able to see or hear anything. A Hindu priest who is sitting a few tables away and had been watching the going-on for some time now could no longer keep quiet: Please don’t talk to him in Konkani; they will not hear you will not listen to you as they are Brahim dogs. He said a few words to them in Sanskrit (i think) and amazingly the dogs got up and walked away from the restaurant. Until now I had no idea the caste system extended to dogs. No, said the priest it goes on and on and includes everything - living and dead. No respectable cabbage would not like to be called a cauliflower said George Bernard Shaw after he lifted it from one of our books on religion. As for fruit our own Chief Minister says he prefers the Mankurad to the Alfonso mango. Is the Mankurad a Kshatriya and Alfonso a Brahim respectively? As we are self conscious beings and capable of doing Vipassana meditation and we are aware we can solve the problem of discrimination. We can manage our prejudices and keep them under control. No hope however for the poor fruit and vegetables, said the Brahmin priest sadly.
[Goanet] Thank You Power Minister Sudin Davlikar
Not too often do we get an opportunity to thank a politician for doing something good and worthwhile. Surprisingly, and he is a surprise to me, as he is a politician with a long political inning who is on his way to becoming something more - a statesman in the making! The Portuguese have rebuilt temples he says which they destroyed on the original site or rebuilt the same temples somewhere else, shows him showcasing the finest aspect of Hindu values - tolerance to all religions. God is one say Hindus for several millennia now. A while back he cited a lists of temples the Portuguese demolished and rebuilt. A man born into a Brahim priestly family he is knowledgable with regard to matters of ritual, tradition and religion. We cannot tamper with history without creating social unrest especially in Goa a small state with an iconic reputation for communal and religious harmony. The people of Goa salute you Power Minister Mr Sudin Dhavlikar. He is not without controversy in the world of religion and politics. He has been elected and reelected six time to the Goa Assembly. A fixture of the government - any government - it prompted CM Parsekar to quip: no matter which government is in power Sudin Davlikar is always PWD Minister. Not this time, though. He is Power Minister - and more power to him. He sometimes appears prudish when he criticizes the bikini as an inappropriate piece of dress or undress for the beach. A sari is a beautiful piece but is not the most suitable for the beach, right Mr Davlikar? As long as women do not go to temples, churches or mosques wearing a bikini there is no problem. No need to ban bikinis on the beach. But to be fair to Mr Sudin Davlikar, and a word of caution to the public: he is not completely off target - you cannot be careful enough as you never know what you might find inside a bikini.
[Goanet] Think Tank For Each Constituency?
If you think Bangalore is the cynosure of the IT industry with the finest minds and people working in the city you will be thinking right. Then, tell me, why is the city and people above their heads in rain water. The government blames the previous government, lack of attention to shoddy work or maintenance. Is this the whole story? However educated people may be greed does not respect scientific knowledge and expertise only money in the bank - any bank anywhere in the world. Is there corruption in Goa? Zero tolerance of corruption? Now if that did not bring a smile or even a good hearty laugh then nothing will my dear no matter how hard you try all day. Our economy is not an easy bull to tame and unless experts from various sectors get involved Goa can aspire to become another Bangalore in another five years however smart our politicians! When in power no politician will listen to anyone unless you tell him what he wants to hear. Cocaine is not in the same league as a politician’s ego when in power. We need to have a Think Tank and Vigilante local groups in each constituency in Goa if we do not want to become another Bangalore. Can the politician’s give us a nod in affirmation or do we have to put our trust in St Francisco or Parshuram or …?
[Goanet] Vinayak Naik: A Man Who Walks The Walk
I did not write much for Goa Today the magazine he edited which ended its glorious history in print not too long ago. I do not believe it is in circulation. A gentle man with deep convictions he dedicated his life to Goa Today. He was not afraid to speak his mind; his editorial stick was firm but had no nails in it. He made a point time after time gently; no blood on the carpet. He excelled at the interview always making the person in the chair feel at ease. I miss reading his interviews. He should be included on various panel discussions on Goa as he is a gold mind of information without a hidden agenda. Something rare these days. I say he should be on various panels as he can throw light on a variety of issues without burning down everything in sight. Nowadays he who shouts the loudest is the brightest. I guess Covid took its toll on Goa Today even though future generations and researchers will look at the magazine as a rich source of information on Goa. The unity in diversity expressed in the magazine is a paean to the cultural diversity and ethos of our state. A refined, educated and cultured Hindu he did not need a pair of glasses to tell the difference between the rich and glorious intellectual tradition of Hindu culture and the the poverty of Hindutva. May he live a long and healthy life!

[Goanet] When the Lion Roars: A Tribute to Rajan Narayan
With a heavy heart I was told The Goan Observer last edition is indeed the last edition. Is this true? The kiosk where the paper is sold in Margao wears a mournful look and almost brings a tear to my eyes. Unlike in the movies in real life good people often have a small chance or none at all of success. It is the way it is - God or no God! We have to accept life as is! Mr Rajan Narayan who is ailing but still writes when he has to right a wrong is Goa’s lion in journalism and has been for decades. If there is someone in Goa who deserves a lifetime award and pension it is this man who has been an objective critic and watchman of Goa’s governments, and a stooge of no none. He has brought to light the wrongdoing of the MGP Congress and BJP governments which has prevented the further erosion of corruption and quality of life in Goa. I ask the government to award him a small recognition for his service to the state and the people of Goa. Unlike Goan politicians he has given his life in the service of the people of Goa and not sucked the life out of their bodies unlike our esteemed politicians. Long live Rajan Narayan the lion of Goa!
[Goanet] Fr Eremito vs CM Sawant - What’s it about?
The sweltering summer heat makes even the coolest minds melt down. No news, this. We, however, need to plod on and for the good of society and our state try to make sense of issues - even controversial ones. Fr Eremito wants the chief minister Dr Sawant also to repair the mosques - if I am wrong please correct me! He says the chief minister should not be communal. Dr Sawant wants to rebuild and/or repair the temples which were damaged and/or destroyed by the Portuguese during the colonial era - correct me if I am wrong. There is a difference in the basic argument I think and we need to examine it. One is because of the ravages of time and the other because of colonialism - correct me if I am wrong. Now this problem can be resolved easily when both sides issue a clarification so it is clear to one and all. Only a free and compassionate exchange of ideas can make this issue go away. Both Fr Ermito and CM Sawant are Goans and they can both resolve this issue without raising the mid-summer temperature any further not to mention the blood pressure of the people of the state of Goa.
[Goanet] Parashuram for Hindus, Xavier for Roman Catholics, and Who for Muslims?
In the interest of communal harmony someone wrote the above but unfortunately did not include our Muslim brothers and sisters! Why Muslims? Yes, Muslims and tribals too have to be included if Goa’s iconic communal reputation is going to have form and content and is not simply a large balloon advertising a feku product. If Muslims are invaders so are the Portuguese. All three will be saints not having their roots in Goan soil unlike the tribal saints. No problem. We cannot change the past. Muslims are no johnny-come-lately as they were here in Goa prior to the Portuguese. We need to provide democratic rights to our saints. They are dead which is a requirement but we are not - and to show respect to all of them they should stand on an equal pedestal. If we do this then no one - no one can say our communal harmony is plastic and fake!
[Goanet] Thank You Very Much!
A few courageous and open-minded people expressed themselves freely under the caption: I Believe. The Silent Majority as expected remained silent. No one took off like a cheap bottle of champagne. Our constitution guarantees free speech and they have not wasted this right. We need to have more forums of this kind to exchange views firmly and politely on a variety of topics. No need to go crazy. If silence is golden and the majority is silent our communal harmony is questionable, isn’t it? Myths and facts need to be looked at closely and critically so the obvious becomes evidence to one and all. Thank you.
[Goanet] Covid n Communal Harmony in Goa
Only the blind deaf and dumb have not noticed how a lot of people are getting testy irritable and quick to insult people only because they have a different point of view. Now this is not Goa nor Goan! We need to take this opportunity to test the level of our culture of tolerance. I ask people to post their individual and personal views on their religion if they have one. i think Dr Oscar might give the lead as I suspect he is the only atheist in Goa and whatever he says no God is going take offense to his opinion on religion. In a way, he is quite safe. My own position is simple: no beliefs for me. If I don’t know something is true I suspend my belief. This much I know: I am not in charge and this much is good enough for me. I don’t feel the need to investigate and discover who is the CEO of the cosmos. Please express yourself under the title: I Believe! People need to express their personal views politely and also differences politely. The more people do, the more we will see diversity in unity. Disagree politely. How intact is our communal harmony - is it real or a myth?
[Goanet] Is Parshuram - The Right Choice?
I do not know how much of the legend of King Arthur in the West and Parshuram in India is fiction and how much is fact - it is beyond my expertise and understanding. But is the choice of Parshuram the right choice? India is a country known for spirituality and the Upanishads and yet Mr Subash Velingkar you want the people of Goa to choose a Brahmin killer warrior as the patron saint of Goa? Be reasonable! I am not a Roman Catholic nor do I belong to any other religion but in my opinion he is not the right choice. Can’t we find someone who is gentle and loving and accepting of all the religions and communities in Goa? I am agains colonialism and the forceful conversion of Christianity by the sword around the world too. How much in Christianity is fact and how much is fiction I do not know. That Jesus is a historical figure is not proof his so-called miracles are facts. In 2022 miracles do not stand up to close scrutiny! The Brahimns are a priestly class and they themselves might feel uncomfortable with Parshuram as he is a violent warrior (in fact or myth I do not know) in short, a bad poster boy. Also the vast majority of Hindus in Goa do no belong to the Brahman caste and so they might not accept him. Why create a divide among Hindus? I respect you as an intellectual and even more as a man of integrity. Please rethink your stand! We need a better choice - someone who will strengthen the unity of communal and religious harmony in Goa. Thank you.

[Goanet] The Idea of GOA!
I confess at the start: I have no religion. Not since fifteen. Maybe if I do it is an a la carte religion - I take what is good in all religions. God or no-God is one. It is the string which holds all the coconuts together. Otherwise things fall apart. The waves of communal disharmony are spreading in different parts of India. I can only hope along with other Goans the tsunami will not arrive at our shores and destroy our communal harmony. The road to truth is not one and our Indian tradition has upheld this principle for millennia. For this reason the world thinks of India as a spiritual country despite what is going on today. I propose rather than have a debate related to the Patron Saint of Goa why not change one word - replace Goa with Goans! Every community can have their own Patron Saint. All people who live in Goa are Goans including some whose ancestors are from beyond the borders of Goa can be included and their saints issued a postal address. What is the problem? Revolutionary Goans will also be kept in check as they will not object to the sons and daughters of the soil - the indigenous people of Goa - each getting their own patron saint. Good news, this. No need to check addhaar card and driving license. Give the Idea of Goa a chance!
[Goanet] Who Will Be Goa’s next Patron Saint?
Life goes on, a journey of discovery and rediscovery. We know by now it was not Columbus who discovered America, there were a lot of others before him and people were already living in the country much before Chris set foot on the land. Who were they? The locals who are better known as American Indians today are no cousins of yours or mine! They, however, had their heroes most of whom were buried in history and today are not part of the American Dream. They are portrayed as savages only because the Caucasians went to war with the indigenous people and won! We have heard often enough how history is written by the conquerers and winners! Did the indigenous people of America have no heroes of their own? In Goa we have a similar historical situation where the Portuguese colonized this part of the country and today the patron saint is Fransisco Xavier a native of Spain. Some people want to dethrone him and install Parashuram who again is not a Goan but maybe has his roots in Orissa. Both are not sons or daughters of the soil. Goan history has been shaped by outsiders to the disadvantage of Goans today. We need to rethink the past, to revisit the past and research the history of the indigenous people of Goa. Who are the experts on the original people of Goa? Speak up or write! I ask again: Did the American Indians who are the original people of the USA have no heroes of their own? Do the indigenous people of Goa have no heroes of their own?

Just as Hitler came to power in Germany through a democracy Putin has done the same through the Russian system of elected government. Directly elected or indirectly elected governments - or any government for that matter- who gives excessive power into the hands of one man - is in danger of setting the world on fire! Should we Put Out for PutIn in the new world order?
[Goanet] Subhash Velingkar Blowing Hot in Summer?
With the summer heat wave in full swing and power cuts and whatnot I wish no one else is going to start a religious and political fire. No, this is not puja. Religious beliefs are absurd even though mine look like miracles and yours nonsense. I am reminded of a story our world history teacher taught us and probably the most important lesson I have learnt while I was in school A Chinese was going to put some rice on his friend’s grave when he met a Christian who was taking some flowers to the cemetery. When is your friend coming to eat the rice asked the Christian. The Chinese smiled and replied his friend would come to eat the rice when the Christian’s friend comes to smell the flowers. That’s religion for you! Hindus revere the cow. As a Goan I have a special reverence for the pig as these animals took care of human waste in Goa for centuries if not millennia. A temple for the pig? Francisco Xavier has been chosen as the patron saint of Goa and Hindus, Roman Catholics and Muslims worship him as a saint. Allow them their rights, too. Mr Velingkar do not be ego-centric as other people have rights as much as you do and so please don’t pollute the air any further. Live and let live!

[Goanet] Goan Food
What's the concept of "Restaurant The Goanesque - a table for a refined palate"? After working for a long time in Japan, I returned to Goa five years ago. It might be nice to open a Goan restaurant, I thought. And so I visited a lot of restaurants all over Goa which serve Goan food. Gradually, my tongue became masala-ed almost beyond repair. I decided to stop eating Goan food in restaurants. It was then the idea grew to start a different kind of Goan restaurant which did not destroy my palate. Don't get me wrong, I like Goan food but the great number of spices doing battle with one another and the red chillies and oil is too much for my delicate sensitivity . I decided to start a Goan restaurant for people like me who enjoy Goan food but do not want to have their tongues on fire, and leave the restaurant with tears in their eyes as though they have been to a funeral. And, that is the meaning of Goanesque : the roots are Goan but there are some changes made, some modifications. I continue to use spices sparingly, always keeping in mind the importance of not drowning the taste of the original materials used to prepare the dishes. No heavy painting of the food with masala or oil. Goanesque is not for masala tongues or lovers of burn-your-tongue food. Goan food is heavily spiced so it is not possible to have a full dinner course. After all, how many masala dishes can you eat? Goans through the ages have solved this problem by making the buffet an important part of social celebrations, weddings and birthday parties. Everyone can reach their own level of spice tolerance! The dinner course has been replaced with a set menu. I choose only one Goan dish. We offer various sets. Each set involves a soup, a starter, a salad and the main dish, for example xacuti followed by tea or coffee and a dessert. There has to be a harmony in the entire set. The soup has a light taste, and slowly the food becomes heavier in taste. Original materials of the dishes are never lost as in heavily spiced food and red chilli masala. A harmonious menu is food for the soul. Open to public BY RESERVATION ONLY E-mail: joaobarrospere...@gmail.com

[Goanet] Of Graveyards n Ancestral Houses
A graveyard is a place where dead bodies are buried after a religious ceremony. An ancestral house is a place where our ancestors lived and played and loved while they were alive. The energy of our ancestors is present in our houses, in all the rooms and all the things they used while alive. Use everything with great respect and appreciation and gratitude to them or they might choke you. Just kidding. After an ancestor dies he or she becomes a buddha, a part of eternity. They are everywhere especially in our houses. If your father and mother or grandfather and grandmother lived in the house you are living in then you are blessed. It is a very different experience living in a new house. Our ancestral houses have their energy, it is all around us. All we need to connect with them is a loving heart.

[Goanet] Language And Culture Go Together Like Horse And Carriage!
The language issue is becoming hotter than the summer heat. The proposal by Amit Shah to replace Hindi as the link language has spontaneously made almost all Indians living in the south of India angry beyond rational explanation. It is a paradox which we are witnessing as language and culture go together! It is not possible to separate the two as they are intertwined and one with our identities. On the face of it the choice of English appears bizarre as a link language but it is not as the language and culture of English is perceived to be foreign even though English has been around this country for centuries and we are the second largest English speaking country in the world. Indian identities are superficially linked to both the language and culture of English. Both will always remain superficial and foreign. Hindi is perceived as a threat to non-Hindi languages and cultures in the south of India as this country is a multi-lingual and equally important a multi-cultural country. There is a clear clash of cultural identities. Indians living in the south see a clash between Hindi language and culture of the north and Tamil or any other south Indian language and culture in the south of India.

[Goanet] Anti Corruption Center
CM: Complaint Center For Anti-Corruption Activities! Chief Minister Sawant at last is his own man if he chooses - from selected to elected Chief Minister. He now has a golden opportunity to bring corruption down to a minimum unlike during the tenure of Digambar Kamat when it was at the maximum! Will Chief Minister Sawant walk the talk? It will take tremendous political will and courage to pull it off. I believe he has the qualities and qualifications and experience for the job. It is the privilege of the Chief Minister to organize the center anyway he wants to effectively curb corruption and I will not mention ways and means. What is important is to have a hot line to the Anti Corruption Center - bringing to his attention and his team's attention any hanky-panky which might be going on. May Goa see a new dawn!

[Goanet] India Keeping Score - Imran Khan Bowled Out?
A famous cricketer in his youth Imran Khan may have to get off the cricket political pitch and retire from national politics. His position is shaky and he may have to concede and give up his political reign of Pakistan. He loved playing cricket in his youth and his fans in India and Pakistan also loved him. I think Imran Khan was good for India. Pakistan has always been on shaky ground, on and off the cricket pitch. From 1947 Pakistan has been in the grip of the military with lots of changes of governments taking place including murder! Imran Khan's farewell may be end game for him and a new test series for India. The Chinese Foreign Minister came to India last week, a low profile visit and now the Russian Foreign Minister. What's cooking? We Indians need to keep one eye on Pakistan and the other on China. The Pakistani military have power equal to the government, an unusual constitution - some say whatever it is - no democracy this! Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi must be keeping track of behind the door developments - we need not worry!
[Goanet] Ministers Without Portfolios - WELCOME!
Watching the introduction and taking of the oath by the new ministers in the Goa Assembly left me laughing unstoppably. What fun! New Goa government thank you very much as you made my day! Chief Minister Sawant needs to be applauded for his sense of humor. His mentor Manohar Parrikar also had a great sense of political satire and Chief Minister Sawant certainly does! Necessary steps need to be taken to keep evil under control. The Chief Minister is not a vindictive person but obviously someone who understands the nature of evil and how to control it. He also provides a window to the public of the kind of people who are going to make up his cabinet. The delay in bringing out the knives is a masterstroke. Too many hands will not fit into the cookie jar at one time! I salute the Chief Minister - brilliant!
[Goanet] Murder In The House - Who's Next?
Is soaring summer heat the cause for murder in the house? I wish it were true but more than the temperature numbers going up it has more to do with greed for money, power and prestige rather than honesty, sincerity and hard work! Goa is going I am not sure where but for sure the Goan as we knew him or her is gone! A case of an adopted son along with his girlfriend killing the mother is gruesome. The other case within a span of a couple of weeks is a daughter's killing of her father. Alarming signals of tomorrow's Goa news? Where will it go from here? Goa's development is not consistent with the development of our hearts which have undergone shrinkage. A lot of these people visit temples, churches and mosques and are religious or so we are told. Does their God applaud when they kill? Or is God simply the joker in the pack? Do all seek a quick ride to the top in search of money, fame and fortune or do we also have vampires in the hunt? For me, only the taste of blood? That's good enough? Who's next?

[Goanet] You Say: I'm not Against Coal Only Pollution! I Say: I'm Not Against Fire Only Heat!
The wicked winning politicians who have won have spoken revealing their endless lies. Mr Empty Head elected MLAs in the big bad brainless world of Goan politics have revealed their soul - and what a sight! People all over the world who care about the environment have banned coal because it causes pollution. Coal has been banned fully especially in countries where coal destroys not only the environment but all the tourism industry! Now this is common knowledge but are we going to see doctored IIT reports claiming coal is not a pollutant as our former Health Minister did with formalin? And, by the way, where is the state-of-the-art laboratory he promised us? If it is not a pollutant then why not have a 3-day Coal Festival? All over Goa people smear themselves with coal especially the tourists. As our former Tourism Minister liked to say: the show must go on!
[Goanet] Hot Line Sawant: For Zero Tolerance To Corruption!
For starters, congratulations! Unlike marriage getting elected the second time around must be an even sweeter honeymoon. For people who have been your critics I say: Boo! Mr Chief Minister you have promised the people of Goa a clean and transparent government. I salute you for it. Your critics are going to be skeptical as they doubt there has not been corruption in the previous few yers. Show them the mettle you are made of - and melt their arguments. Open a hot line to the CMO Chief Minister's Office which will deal with corruption on several levels directly and swiftly. Show the people of Goa and India and Chief Minister Kejriwal you are second to none when it comes to stopping corruption! Anyone asking for a bribe to pass a file from the Panchayat to the highest level in the state will have to answer to you. Plans of projects will not and cannot be held up on some pretense or other as it will happen inevitably when some people will not get their illegal money which they perceive as their fundamental citizen's right. Goans have voted for you and it is you who have led them to victory. Our full support is behind you.

[Goanet] Indira Gandhi And The Ukraine War!
Sunday is a great day for me a retiree who is not as yet tired even though I do not work from Monday to Saturday. Sunday is a state of mind! And, on Sundays I make time to think of the events in my life which have brought me joy and sorrow. Decades ago the Pakistani war between the two countries brings memories of Indira Gandhi. She was an amazing humanitarian and also a person of great political acumen. She has gone down in history as the person who sliced the former Pakistan into Pakistan and Bangla Desh. The great store house of Pakistan was lost once and forever making it much easier to control this renegade monster. Imagine if Bangla Desh and Pakistan were one country today. It would be a much bigger headache for India. Pakistan has been reduced in terms of economics and politics. Every Indian worth his salt should be thankful to Indira Gandhi for making us safer. Whatever political party does not matter - we all need to be proud of her!

[Goanet] Life Goes On!
Life Goes On! How often have you heard this: You can't take it with you! Does anyone think they can? If it is the case then whoever it may be is a sleep walker all day all night! As a person gets older it becomes obvious how a lot of so-called wisdom is only for sleep walkers. People who dish out these pearls of wisdom belong to a work force known as specialists of the obvious. Others who are half awake agree but are inclined to believe you can take your good deeds and character with you. These are not your ordinary business people but traders between this living world and the world after death. Organized religions love this group and priests are the in-between brokers. Why can't we live without some kind of belief or the other? Too bland so we need to cook up a spicy dish? The joy of having no expectations or not clinging to the promises of long dead people is unbeatable. When we do it this way life never ceases to be a miracle - moment to moment!
