Well, it's been a year now since this issue was first reported. Rated the second-highest issue of all time, by your users. That updates page must have been *really* buggy, to take this long to bring back. I guess you guys have been busy working on some exciting new things instead for the past year. Let me check the What's Newhttp://code.google.com/p/support/wiki/WhatsNewpage to learn about these new features. Hmm... no? nothing? I know I'm not owed anything by GoogleCode. I'm not a paying customer - I can't even *be* a paying customer (see the first-highest rated issue of all time http://code.google.com/p/support/issues/detail?id=1829). Re: Bug report: project activity broken
Well, it's been over 6 months, and 1) the activity page is still broken, 2) no explanation given from Google. It's as if they just decided we're removing this useful feature from our site. Why? Because f*ck you, that's why. Guess you get what you pay for. I would encourage anyone with a Git repository to try out GitHub. They don't have an exact equivalent to the activity page, but you can watch projects, which allows you to track any future updates (I don't know if it gives you the full history, though). There's also an activity graph that shows how often / when changes have been coming in. It's not as compact as the old activity icon, but what can you do... -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Project Hosting on Google Code group. Re: Bug report: project activity broken
True, but those don't go that far back and for the source changes section only enumerates updates for the branch last updated. So if two branches were updated in the same day, you'll only know one got changed. Better than nothing, but not effecient or reliable. This is so dumb. We've been completely abondoned and its obviously nothing has been done to address this. They've just decided to not do a thing and know that people will just adapt to a very ineffective tracking system. Starring something means nothing to them. They do not care about feedback from their users and that's quite apparant in their other services. They do what they think and we can take it or leave it (like this). I've seen full games built/released in the time span since this has been removed. It's a simple update page! Copying strings and creating links and putting it all in the form of a list is about as simple as things get. What the hell is going on with this??? Face it, they're not touching this service again unless it's to rip things out. I'm quite sure they're eyeing the atom feeds now since you brought them up. They probably didn't know they were even there and now that they do, will deem them a stabilty risk and promptly gut the code. Why leave something in that's useful if there's some edge case that may cause a problem (therotically of course). Almost 3 months and almost 1000 people have spoke up and what's been done? Nothing. What's been communicated? Nothing. What's been gained? Stability? No. Unbelieveable. Re: Bug report: project activity broken
I originally thought it was taken off by another group member when I first noticed it. Looked everywhere for the option to turn in back on in the Admin section, but I couldn't find it. It was, without a doubt, THE most useful function on Googlecode, and frankly, it was the only thing keeping me at Googlecode. Now that it's gone, I'm going to close up my projects and go to a different hosting site, or try hosting it myself. I simply can't use Googlecode without the Updates tab. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Project Hosting on Google Code group. Re: Bug report: project activity broken
My sincere apologies. Indeed I wrongly speculated about this and I was not the first one either. A few minutes after posting here, I read near the end of the very same issue I posted about, a comment stating and I quote (comment #17): It's more of a side-effect of the removal of updates. So once again, my apologies for speculating without any concrete proof :( On Mar 4, 2:02 am, Lennard de Rijk l...@google.com wrote: On Mar 3, 7:36 pm, Bruno Santos wyldc...@gmail.com wrote: What I find the funniest thing about all of this was that there is no reference to one of the major reasons why the Updates tab was taken down: people's emails and personal informations were popping up on the Updates page. Re: Bug report: project activity broken
I used the updates tab to view source when a project removed the source tab. So how the heck is someone unfamiliar with Google code know if a project contains source? This is not open source friendly. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Project Hosting on Google Code group. Re: Bug report: project activity broken
I got here because the issue at http://code.google.com/p/support/issues/detail?id=24324colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Priority%20Stars%20Owner%20Summary was closed for comments but somehow Google wants to keep up the conversation by directing us here. The last comment said: Of course if you have anything to add I welcome you all to join the existing thread on our Google Group What should we add? I think everything has been said but it might be required to summarize it a little bit. * The updates page was removed from all projects including the activity meter. * Many people complained about that within a few hours. * Nobody understood the reason why the page has been removed. * The issue has been starred by more than 300 people which puts it into the top 5 issues (within 3 days). * The use case is also very clear: There are many users who want to see if a project is active or not so that they do not download software that is badly supported later. And there are many users who want to see at a single glance what happened in the project to react to comments etc. * A few work arounds have been suggested but none can fully replace the updates page. In my opinion, everything has been said. I am now waiting to get some new information from your side (you = Google). If there is anything that you (Google) want to know, just ask. Otherwise I think it is time for some well-founded explanations or even better a decision to bring the old updates page back or a new one. Best regards!
