i was sent this email at 2008-4-26 and 2008-5-5, but i haven't got any

Can Valve consider add HUD messages in CS:S DOD:S in client side?

like cs 1.6, it can display any colour message on client screen at any
 position.

HL2 DM already have HUD messages display, but why remove in CS:S DOD:S?

I had hear about font definition in HUD messages, but HL2 DM haven't that
 problem?

Also, CS:S have a Center HUD message, so i think it not a font definition
 problem.

In cs 1.6 HUD message can provide many informations, effects to client and it
very powerful. Although, CS:S include HintText, it can't send large
information, change the colour, display message in any loction on the
 screen.

Finally, can Valve reconsider to add HUD messages in CS:S DOD:S in client
 side?

Please email to me what Valve consider about this.

I agree. I didn't understand that's what he meant by bandwidth. If that is
the cap on your usage then it is way to low. One fairly full server will
kill that in a month.

500GB is a joke.

I had 3x TF2 Servers, 2x 24 and 1x 30 player.

They are full 24/7

Daily bandwidth usage is about 50-60GB a day, nothing else runs on this box.

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hey guys!

I currently have a Windows Server 2003 Box with a dual Opteron 2.4ghz with 2
gigs of ram, 120 gig HD, and 500gb of bandwidth.

I have 5 Servers on it with fps_max set to 200 with FPS Boost:

28 slot GunGame server 66 Tick Mani, GG v4, ES 1.5 and Sourcemod

24 slot Dust2/Office server 66 Tick Mani, ES 2.0

24 slot Rotation with same as above ^

11 slot Match server 100 Tick zblock with 10 slot Source TV

32 slot TF2 server 66 Tick Mani

My question is can my server handle all these servers full? I recall last
night my CPU peeked with 3 of the servers full, not match. Where could I go
from here? Thanks in advanced!

Re: [HLDS] *absolutely* impossible to connect ot server no matter how it is setup.

2007-07-06 Thread Joshua Handelsman-Woolf (DogGunn)

It's mentioned there:
...however, the switches must be entered correctly or your dedicated
server will not start.

Then it lists +map map

Stephane Bagneris wrote:

I have read several faqs on *non steam* websites. Yes, they did look a
bit outdated and NO they did not mention the fact that +map is of the
UTMOST importance so the server may actually start properly.

The official steam faq:
http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=638

Does mention +map but nowhere does it says it is absolutely necessary.
In fact most of the switch mentioned in the faq are not absolutely
necessary to launch the server (i.e. -maxplayer, -autoupdate, -port,
-ip)

Because of that I simply assumed WRONGLY (yes.. okay... mea culpa, mea
maxima culpa!) that the server would read the mapcyle.txt file and
figure out the order from there.

I maintain that it should be stressed in the official faq that +map is
a mandatory switch otherwise the server binary itelf is pretty terse
as to what is the problem and is thus failling to report what is
wrong. Even when enabling +log on nothing shows up in the log file.

Thanks again for the help!

You have records of the number, but the security code on the back cannot be
stored except with encryption of the highest available standards...that's
the thing that makes it work, and it's not like you can bruteforce a

Use the version command in console.
It should show the build date as being sometime in April.

We have a beta update for the Source Engine available for Dedicated
servers. To get the update run the hldsupdatetool with -beta srcds0407
on the command line.

This update addresses some lag issues that have been seen when running
the Source Engine (in particular, it programmatically does something
similar to using the net_queuesplits cvar).

I've noticed that css will never switch maps until the magic last round is
completed. This is dumb because the server won't rotate through maps when no
ones on the server, and the first person that connects will have the map
change when they die or someone else joins and the round gets completed i
guess. I want the maps to rotate at the end of the last round. I guess the
problem lies in the fact that the last round can span indefinitely, and
doesn't abide by the mp_roundtime cvar (maybe just when theres no one
there)There should at least be an option for this. Could it be
implemented? And maybe I'm just missing something, so any recommendations?

[hlds] Guest Passes - VAC and Purchase Bug

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hi,
I was playing around with the guest passes and happened to accidentally
redeem one myself. So, I opened up Day of Defeat: Source to notice that none
of the servers showed up as using VAC. This was using the internal in game
server browser. However using the external Steam server browser showed up as
all the servers using VAC.

Is VAC not enabled for people using the guest pass? How does it actully
work, I can't seem to find any information.

I also happened to notice after exiting DoD: Source that clicking the 'Buy
it now' button on the advertising window that pops up would redirect you to
the store page, however clicking the purchase button on the store page would
just give you an error message that you own all those games.
(steam://purchase/25)
Could it just have something to do with the the store being closed?
(The window that pops up can be found here:
http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/?gpdata=gift,onquit,25,300l=english)

Thanks,
Josh

I've sent my request in! :)

On 12/14/06, Alfred Reynolds [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 Greetings,

As many of you are likely aware Valve has just launched a closed beta of
a new Steam feature called Guest Passes. The goal of Guest Passes is to
enable users who currently own a multi-player game to easily share a
temporary trial license with their friends who do not. This will enable
new users to try the game risk free and enable you to get your friends
 online playing with you.

As part of this beta we would like to invite all of you, our dedicated
server operator community, to participate in the beta. The requirements
for the beta are fairly simple: 1) You need Steam, 2) You need to own
 Day of Defeat: Source.

If you are interested in more information on Guest Passes please see the
 following support link:
 http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std
 _adp.php?p_faqid=549

If you are interested in participating in the beta please contact
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with your Steam account name. The beta is
currently underway and should you choose to participate you will receive
notification in the Steam UI once your passes are ready for use.

Finally, we should mention that depending on the volume of responses we
may cut off participation on a first come first serve basis!

 Thanks!

CS-Nation: Many gamers who play CS 1.6 purchased the

have a WRT54G router and I connect to my game servers (two of

Some routers and/or router configs won't let you join the server from
another workstation. Using the trusty Linksys WRT54G via wireless, for
example, can do this. My main router is a WRT54G. I have my
  daughter's 2
computers upstairs connecting via wireless. If they connect
  to the LInksys,
they can't join my server. So, I have a Netgear router
  plugged into the
LInksys via cat5. DHCP server in netgear is disabled. IP of
  netgear is hard
set. Now, they connect via wireless to the Netgear, use the
  DHCP server of
the LInksys, and they can connect to my server just fine.
  Something in the
Linksys is not right, not sure what. Works through the
  Netgear, doesn't work

There is nothing more basic to a hl server than to be able
  to join a game
from the same LAN the server computer is running on. If
  you can't do that
then you've got some basic network function screwed up.
  Start out making
certain tcp/ip is functioning properly on both puters.
  Make sure the
network, subnet mask, and ip addresses of both puters is
  correct. Lets
assume a few things for demonstration purposes... the IP addy of the
server is 192.168.1.100 and the IP addy of the client is
  192.168.1.200.
Bring up a command screen on the server and ping the client
  computer by
typing the following command (without the quotes) ping
  192.168.1.200.
You should receive 4 replies. Next ping the server from
  the client using
the following command ping 192.168.1.100... again, you
  should receive 4
replies. If you can ping both machines from each other...
  and the server
machine is running hl... and there is a map running on the
  server... and
the server is listening on the same port the client is
  trying to connect
with... and the client is running the same version of hl...
  and the client
is trying to connect on the same port the server is
  listening on... and
you have a valid Steam account...then you should be able to
  join the game.

Are all these things true for your current problem?

Start a text file and writing your every move!
Put the box on your local network
   Download the latest server installer
Set up console script to create your new account Set up
  console update
script Start a new server install with a new login pass
  (don't use any of
   your old server for anything)
Once you have a fresh copy SAVE AS as to give you a backup :) and
   continue
saving through the build procedure so you have reference.
Up date the server again save after changes :) Build a
  basic Start script
   ad
your basic configs Make sure your using the right
  executable Run nothing
   but
a standard server (no addons) Start adding your console
  commands 1 at a
   time
checking the server works each time Run the server on your
  local network
Join it from a PC and check its fine then move across to the public
   address
   Then start adding your addons

I was having the same issues for about an hour+ this afternoon. One of
my attempts was to try to disable vac (+secure 0 from the cmdline)
which didn't work, though I did notice after the hlds restart people
 could connect.

I restarted all my servers and people are able to join now, alterantive
is to wait out the storm I guess.

 good luck

I were to crackpot a theory, I'd say keep rebooting the server until
it finds a steam auth server that likes it.

Otherwise, chill until people @ steam/valve go back to work. It's a

- Server is a lan server ( no heartbeat, no authentication, no

sv_lan 0 if the game isn't a lan game. sv_lan 1 if the game is a lan game -
so you want 0 so it'll show up on the master broswer.

Remeber to open the ports.

 Unknown command v_lan1

 sv_lan = 1 ( def. 0 )
 - Server is a lan server ( no heartbeat, no authentication, no

I think this could be a problem with the server maybe it thinks its a
lan but its not so it doesnt list in the master server list.

But I could be wrong I = noob to this.

So it looks like some servers are forcing cl_minmodels to one, and when
 you
join servers after that you only see the two models. The work around for
 now
is to manually reset that cvar.

When you join and it says your banned does it give any additional

But it could be entirely possible that your banned by ip and not by steam

 Hi,
It just says my STEAM_ID # is banned at Only this one server. I looked
at the banned VAC list and I am not on it. Also, my IP is dynamic and
I've checked that it is different, it is each time I shut down and
re-start my router. Plus at one time, I gave the IP to him I waited a
bit tried to get in and I was still banned.

I personally think that there is a hack that does this kind of stuff.
It just seems like the type of thing a Hacker Scum-bait would do.

which tells me hlstatsx is is set to ban on retry for 5 minutes (he
timed out, and tried to rejoin in less then a minute). Basically,
hlstatsx bans everyone that disconnects for 5 minutes (supposed to be
for only 5 minutes) to keep them from disconnecting, then rejoining to
get on the winning team (keeps the stat whores at bay).

Mr Williams, please take a look at your hlstats.conf file, so a search
for AutoBanRetry and disable it by setting the variable to 0

And how is Hell Phoenix a womans name?

Please stop blaming VAC for your misconfiguration. With hlstatsx, you
*really* need to pay attention to what you configure in the hsltats.conf
file - and if you don't understand a variable, either get on the
hlstatsx forums, or for an even quicker response, hit the hlstatsx IRC
channel where you can usually chat with the developer directly.

Well since the poster wrote he was using media player, I just assumed
  he

 sure
  if
that works for srcds or not. But if it does then running media player
  would
take up more CPU then just running a SWF file minimized.
when i use it, it boost's my FPS on my win2k server to 500.

sv_maxrate is not enough for a 100 tickrate server
sv_maxupdaterate of 40 is lower than the CS:SRCDS default of 60 and
  would
nullify the benefit of running at 100 tickrate
Setting the sv_minupdaterate to anything atm seems to cause strange
