Re: [hlds] Frequent TF2 client crashes... any known triggers?
I saw this on the Love and War patch day. About half the people on my server, including myself, had their clients crash at the same time. I have no idea what it was. There was no helpful clues on the console. This was an unmodded server; no MM/SM. I have not seen it happen since. Re: [hlds] Frequent TF2 client crashes... any known triggers?
While I hadn't firsthand experienced the crash, I noticed that a chunk of players would occasionally drop off the server. So there is some form of client crash. The new taunts are too fun to disable though (and the crash isn't common enough to be annoying), but I hope it's going to be fixed. Usually in the past this type of crashes happens cause of players doing something weird that clients get confused on, such as the dead ringer exploit ages ago where a dead ringer spy disguised as a heavy with his fists out would crash the clients on his feigned death. Wonder if anyone have figured out a similar reason why the new taunts would cause client crashes? STAR_ has a video where he is demoing the Tide Turner where this apparently happened. He crashed (presumably on his server) on a full server and immediately reconnected to find the server had about 10 people. You might look at it to find clues. Re: [hlds] Frequent TF2 client crashes... any known triggers?
I doubt it's the tide turner, otherwise we would see a lot more crashes since players use it a lot but the crash is related to some weapon or taunt even. Previous crashes where clients go down but server stays up usually are caused by someone doing something and others either see that or are near vicinity of the happening. Weird thing is that not all players crash, just the majority. -ics Lucas Wagner kirjoitti: STAR_ has a video where he is demoing the Tide Turner where this apparently happened. Re: [hlds] Frequent TF2 client crashes... any known triggers?
We've been getting these client crashes after the update as well. I think they are related to the B.A.S.E. Jumper. I've looked at crash dumps and C_TFBuffItem::SendWeaponAnim(int) is in the call stack when the server crashed. This points to the base jumper as the culprit. I looked at a friend's crash dump and it was identical. If Valve would like to take a look, I'd gladly send the crash dumps over. Like you guys I run a bunch of mods but from what I hear, this affects vanilla servers as well. Here's to hoping for a fix?
