AW: AW: RMF Spreadsheet Reporter
Miklos, I can't tell you, the FTP process is build internally and I suspect that the process is generated before the job has finished, there is no possibility on RMF PP side to switch on a trace but as I understand, the host FTP is used so I might be able to switch it on there, no messages in SYSLOG either. Michael had a similar problem and described the path he did go to avoid it (Thanks Michael). Maybe raising the timeout limit on host side would solve the problem. I'll give it a try tomorrow. One last word on RMF PP - btw RMF PM works fine - : even if it's "free" software I would expect that the code works (I don't want to start a new discussion about "Freebie" software). Someone in the RMF team could answer those questions, still awaiting a reply. Re: AW: RMF Spreadsheet Reporter
When I submitted a job, RMFSR wanted to sit there and wait for the submitted job to get done. Eventually it times out because the job could take up to 20 minutes or more. So my process was to (and I'm going from memory since my mainframe is gone): 1. Click on the Remote SMF Dump Data folder and select an SMF dataset (if you haven't set up one, right click on the blank area and select NEW) 2. Click the Create Overview Record button on the toolbar 3. On the Create Overview Record window, copy the Remote dataset name 4. Press the RUN button (progress meter goes active) 5. Wait a couple of seconds to make sure the job makes it to the mainframe. 6. Press the CANCEL button 7. Select the Remote Overview Records folder on the resources tab. 8. Right click the blank area and select NEW 9. Where it says to enter Name, paste the remote dataset name that was copied in step 1 10. Repeat process When the job finally finishes on the mainframe, then I would: 1. Select the entry created in steps 6-7 from above. 2. Press the FTP toolbar button 3. Change the LOCAL name to something more descriptive (for later selection in charts) 4. Press the RUN button After the FTP finishes: 1. Select the Local Overview Records folder on the resources tab. 2. Select an overview record entry 3. Click the Create Working Set button on the toolbar Once the conversion process is finished, you will have an entry in the Local Working Sets folder that can be used to input in various spreadsheet charts. That was the process I used every month for 10 years to create monthly charts and yearly trends charts using Overview Records. Hopefully that will shed some light on your issue. The RMF spreadsheet reporter package is broken - simple as that. We seem to get these threads every 18 months or so - and all the sites that have working setups can't understand why new environments don't work just like theirs. You *cannot* just use the GUI to build the JCL and expect it to work. Yes I know it seems that's what the thing is supposed to be for - amongst other things. Hi list, I do have difficulties to FTP resulting output dataset from z/OS back to my workstation. The postprocessor und reports are just running fine and the listing dataset is created. But when trying to retrieve the dataset back to my workstation, I get 505 RETR 'userid.D.T.LISTING', dataset not found and 505 GET error. What am I missing? Are there any special ports to be opened on my WinXp workstation firewall? Docs contain no hints and a manual FTP just works fine. well---found problem... went back to just select from weekly files I had.. found a weekly that was corrupted ... think there may have been a rerun and no one said anything.. took 5wk's into sort using below...then took that output as input to creating working set...and it worked.. You still get to flounder around, but the result is always the mentioned zero length file. *IF* you get that far. Update some options, kick it off, publish the graphs. Right ... At least you get some OVW sysin that happens to produce the output you need to generate the worksheet. However, EasySMF is different to MXG and I don't claim it is a replacement for MXG. Unless you are only a light MXG user you would probably find that it didn't have MXG functions you were used to. The idea behind EasySMF was to create a product that would be valuable even if you already have MXG or similar software, and to make SMF data accessible outside the groups that traditionally have the MXG and SAS skills. At every site I have worked there have been groups that would have found SMF information useful, but had no way to use it either due to no tools or no SAS skills. Ops analysts/schedulers, storage management and even systems programmers. EasySMF is designed with more of a focus on problem solving than capacity planning. It is designed to help answer questions, and follow a thread through your SMF data where initially you may not know exactly what you are looking for. If you are investigating a problem you can move from one report to another without having to break your train of thought to code up a different report. For example, you might look at all service classes, then details for a particular service class, a specific job in the service class, the history of that job, the datasets it used etc. As you move to different reports from different record types the filtering (service class, job etc.) is maintained. If you don't already have a SMF reporting product, EasySMF will provide a lot of useful information and could be all you need. If you currently use MXG or a similar product, EasySMF will hopefully also provide a lot of useful information, but I do not claim it is a direct replacement for your current product. "A replacement for MXG & SAS" is probably a simpler marketing message, but I think it would result in less satisfied customers. The Help is pretty good for each process. Back when we were running this, new versions got pretty slack. Last time I tried it the File transfer thing never would work and I couldn't get enough information to fix it(I think Bob Shannon reported similar observations). The whole process is 'folder based'. I've created a listing dataset on the host and when I try to create a working set from it I get a message window which says : Report for specified options cannot be found in Report Listing ...
