Re: PCOMM 15 UID

2024-09-14 Thread Paul Feller
I would agree there is very little in the way of documentation around the
contents of the WS file. I've used PCOMM for many years. What little
documentation there is seems to be only related to when there are issues. One
example that comes to mind is the use of the TerminalTypeString parameter.
Another example is the IgnoreWCCStartPrint parameter and as far as I remember
that is not even documented in a PCOMM manual.

Good luck getting an answer.

Let me clarify: I didn't ask about UUID nor I asked to expand the shortcut.
I asked about the meaning of UID as a parameter in WS file.

Unfortunately syntax (parameters) of WS file is not documented.

I now find myself needing to use PCOMM 14.0 instead of VIsta. I'd like to set

50x135. But my session.ws file doesn't contain the screensize= parameter and

AFAIK PCOMM does not record default values in the WS file.
Worse: *there is no documentation available*. Yes, there is no
documentation explaining all (at least most) .WS file keywords.

Hint: in case of screensize or any other setting simply try to create
test file with non-standard settings. You will find the difference.
Fortunately most of the keyword names are self-explanatory.

Re: PCOMM alternate screen size

2023-07-31 Thread Schmitt, Michael
Check what gets updated when you change the screen size to one of the other
listed values. It must be saving it somewhere, either in a config file or in
the registry. And there's only so many places that PCOMM stores configuration
files.

When you find what's updated, note how it stores this setting.

Dana,

You need to code the screensize parameter under 3270. So, edit the .WS file
with any text editing software and add the following.

[3270]
QueryReplyMode=Auto
HostCodePage=1047-U
Screensize=50x135

Save it and then launch the pcomm session.

Once you start up the PCOMM printer session, you will see it Active in VTAM,
but you won't see the ACT/S until it is in session with something (like getting
Acquired in a CICS region).

We use a different emulator than PCOMM, so I can't really speak to how it's
supposed to act. If we start a PC attached printer session, the screen shows a
basic "Printer ready for work" message.

Hi,

Cross posted.

This is regarding PCOM 5.7.

I have configured the PCOM for a printer session with Telnet 3270. When I see
printer LU, I see it as active but not with ACT/S.

What I am expecting here is when I configure and connect PRINTER session in
PCOMM, long time back I remember we used to receive a printers session display
on PCOMM screen showing what is connected. For me it just shows blank but at
the bottom it says connected.

Is there any driver files that might be missing to show up the desired printer
display screen in PCOMM ?

Could someone please provide your direction on where I might be looking in ?

With the 1709 update it is now called WIndows Server.
Windows Server 2019 is being developed.

Nano Server does not have a GUI, I doubt if the Powershell would work.

Re: PCOMM macro/script - Copy Screens, Copy Append

2017-11-08 Thread Wendell Lovewell
We've used Passport for several years. Here's a VBScript example for Passport
that will allow you to specify the number of screens you want to copy and
optionally the beginning and ending row on the screen. After it copies each
screen and appends it to a temporary file, it invokes my editor so that I can
see the whole capture.

Comments start with a single quote. At the end there is another way of doing
this using VBScripts FileScriptingObject (FSO). Passport had some issues with
a 60x100 screen that way, so I stayed with the first version. But maybe it
matches PCOMM's functions better. At least it shows how to work with FSOs.

The macrouses Passport functions:
GetScreenSize
AppendPSToFile
SendHostKeys
WaitForHostUpdate

And the VBScript functions:
MsgBoxGetInput
Shell

I have the macro assigned to CTRL-S in my Passport keyboard so that I can just
press Ctrl-S and be prompted for the number of pages, begin row & end row on
each screen. It saves the screen & pages down that number of times, then
starts my editor with the results in the C:\temp file.

Subject: PCOMM macro/script - Copy Screens, Copy Append

Using PCOMM Ver 6.0.

The goal is to copy several CICS screens as a script (or macro) runs. 24x80
green-screen stuff.

First step is to create or record the macro or script.
The problem is that PCOMM's Edit-Copy and Edit-Append are not supported
under PCOMM's Start Recording, either as a macro or VBScript.
Start Recording will record keystrokes, but not Edit-Copy, etc.
[Edit-Copy (and Append) copies the text of a screen to the Windows clipboard.]

The VBScript can be edited. Are there VBScript statements that will copy
screens (text) as they are presented?
I'm studying VBScript syntax now (WshShell - SendKeys might work), but if the
wheel's already been invented . . .

Any help appreciated.

Thanks -
Richard Zierdt

Must it be PCOMM? x3270 has a feature to Copy Screens Continously
{text|HTML|RTF}
to a file. HTML preserves color/highlighting very nicely, but text probably
meets your
needs better.

Long ago, I used c3270 under script(1) to capture a session. I could play it
back as
a movie. I couldn't control the pacing nicely; I deemed it a solution seeking
a problem.

Re: PCOMM copy-paste (quite another issue)

2012-11-23 Thread Salva Carrasco
Hi Radoslaw,

I found your post about APL char and PCOMM copy/paste, because I've the same
problem, specially with ISPF and Omegamon screens. But no solution was
provided. After some googling and IBM's infocenter reading, I became to the
conclusion that it was not possible, so I decided to work about it.

In the first approach I learned (not documented) that the APL attribute was in
the EXTFIELD Plane last bit. This plane is not available for standard APIs (VB,
Macro, ...), but yes for the HACL (Java and C). I tried C, but the API only
compiles with MS Visual C and IBM visual studio. So I went to java. I spent two
days until I learned that it only works if compiled with an old Java SDK
(1.4.2). Finally I created a simple macro "[Run Applet] CopyApl.class" that
runs the applet and assigned it to a key.

In PCOMM 5.9, the process pcscm.exe enter in a loop and your session (TN3270)
become very slow. I installed 5.9.7 and now works fine.

The program is not completed, it only translate a few APL chars (box drawing).
It leaves unicode text in the system clipboard. If you're using Lotus Notes,
paste it with Courier New font. Does not ask why i'm using (rows*cols)+1, i do
not understand but it works. Select show console in run applet menu for
debugging. Feedback wellcome.

Regards, Salva.

The code:

import com.ibm.eNetwork.ECL.*;
import java.awt.Toolkit;
import java.awt.datatransfer.Clipboard;
import java.awt.datatransfer.StringSelection;

public class CopyApl implements ECLAppletInterface {

ECLPS ps = null;

public CopyApl() {
}

public void init(ECLSession session) {
ps = session.GetPS();
int rows = ps.GetSizeRows();
int cols = ps.GetSizeCols();
char[] bufferT = new char[(rows*cols)+1];
char[] bufferX = new char[(rows*cols)+1];

try {

ps.GetScreen(bufferT,(rows*cols)+1,ECLConstants.TEXT_PLANE);

ps.GetScreen(bufferX,(rows*cols)+1,ECLConstants.EXFIELD_PLANE);
} catch (ECLErr e) { System.out.println(e.GetMsgText()); }

int col = cols;

I doubt that it's an APL font; TEXT is more likely. Page 437 is more
likely than either.

Fidelity in copy/paste requires that both applications know what they're
doing

with the clipboard. When you place data on the clipboard, you have to tell
(assuming Windows in this case) about what you've written, and you can't lie. If
you tell the API the data is text (associated with a locale), then Windows will
be able to translate it.

And I would certainly expect the emulator's copy function to be intelligent

enough to recognize that APL data (code page 294) is implemented on a 3270 using
a mixture of two code pages: the base code page (e.g. 037) and code page 310,
with the 3270 Graphic Escape character prefixing each APL-specific character in
code page 310.

Default locale for Western Windows assumes code page 1252. But not even DOS

code page 437 has all of the APL characters in it, so the emulator must store
data on the clipboard in Unicode format.

The pasting application must then retrieve the data from the clipboard in

Unicode format. If the editor doesn't support Unicode, but only the SBCS
implicit in the locale settings, Windows will translate the Unicode to the
locale cod page, but you you will not get a good result.

In this case, if the emulator does not convert them to another
character set or code page when putting the text in the clipboard,
then the PC application receiving the data will display the
corresponding characters using the character set it has loaded.

That's an issue regardless of what code page it is using.

Generally speaking, full fidelity requires both the copying app and the

pasting app have to have a common frame of reference.

The TEXT setting, on the other hand, corresponds to a code page that I
believe

was used by ATMS, and was not tied to the TN print train (code page 264). I have
never been able to ferret out the code page used by ATMS.

Generally speaking, full fidelity requires both the copying app and the pasting
app have to have a common frame of reference.

The TEXT setting, on the other hand, corresponds to a code page that I believe
was used by ATMS, and was not tied to the TN print train (code page 264). I
have never been able to ferret out the code page used by ATMS.

I doubt that it's an APL font; TEXT is more likely. Page 437 is more
likely than either.

That's an issue regardless of what code page it is using.

True that they are not unique to APL and is a code page issue. However, some of
the lines drawn on 3270 screens in many emulators are drawn using an APL font
instead of Unicode or some other code page. In this case, if the emulator
does not convert them to another character set or code page when putting the
text in the clipboard, then the PC application receiving the data will display
the corresponding characters using the character set it has loaded.

Shouldn't this be "and"?

Also I found nothing in the manual about setting the RFC 2355 (TN3270) "device
type"[1] character string to "IBM-DYNAMIC" which, although it was not mentioned
in the original post, a subsequent post indicated that the environment was 3270
TELNET. I appreciate that persuading the TN3270 client emulator logic to offer
"IBM-DYNAMIC" as the "device type" isn't vital since the mode name (logon mode
table entry name) can be specified in the USS command - or - the "device code"
offered can be forced to map to one of the two "SNA" (as opposed to
"non-SNA"[1]) "dynamic" mode names, D4A32XX3 or D4C32XX3 by overriding the
default TELNETDEVICE statements.

-

[1] "Terminal type" is pre-TN3270 (RFC 2355) terminology for 3270 TELNET - just
to clear up another potential source of confusion!

[2] If the first byte of the "presentation services" field (PSERVIC operand) of
the logon mode table entry is X'02' (LU type 2), the entry is "SNA". If the
first byte of the "presentation services" field of the logon mode table entry
is X'00' (LU type 0), the entry is "non-SNA". The session follows SNA protocols
only when it has passed though the VTAM protocol converter logic - see Chapter
"Programming for the IBM 3270 Information Display System" of the z/OS
Communications Server SNA Programming manual.

If byte 24 is X'03', the default screen size is 24 x 80 and the alternate is
what you configured with PC/3270

So what is described is setting an user-defined *alternate* size. The *primary*
size is - according to the architectural rules surrounding the presence of
X'03' as the penultimate byte of the "presentation services" field for a
session using the 3270 data stream - always 24x80 and PCOMM would appear to
insist on following the architecture.

Tant pis!

Note that the same reference was given by Sri Kolusu.

Re: PCOMM copy-paste (quite another issue)

2012-06-29 Thread Steve Bireley
The reason is that the line drawing characters use the APL character set. When
you paste to another application, it does not know how to handle the those
characters so they display as the corresponding ASCII characters at the same
position in the character set. Some emulators convert the lines to Unicode line
drawing characters in the clipboard so they paste properly. Screen printing may
do the same thing. I do not know if you can get PCOMM to covert those prior to
pasting.

user-defined alternate. I'm running 32X132 primary, and I would like to run
