Doh!

ls -la, not la -la

Fingers faster than brain.

All this assumes that you wanted the command to list the files, rather than
making the FTP server always list 'hidden' files. If it's the latter you want,
I've no idea. 😊

IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS, Version 11 is now available!

2021-11-19 Thread Yuan Jie Song
IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS, Version 11, is the latest
release of Java SDK on z/OS. It provides a fundamental platform for building
highly robust, scalable and reliable modern enterprise applications. In an ever
connected world, as clients embark on their digital transformation journey on
z/OS, Java 11 is essential for enabling their new workloads on premise and
across cloud platforms. This SDK delivers support for Java 11 Standard Edition
specification, provides new language features, and enables developers to build
Java applications on any platforms and deploy them onto z/OS.

This release contains performance enhancements that enable companies to
leverage the benefits of IBM Z scalability, reliability, availability, and
serviceability, including exploitation of latest IBM Z hardware features. It
contains a new OpenJCEPlus security provider offering optimized performance
through exploitation of cryptographic hardware on IBM Z and enabling the
cryptographic algorithms required for TLS V1.3 support in the OpenJCEPlus
provider. It is designed to provide clients with the capability to test and
deploy Java applications in a 64-bit environment, run Java code on zIIP
processor engines, and use valuable z/OS functions such as a Batch Launcher for
running Java applications as batch jobs or started tasks, and direct access to
traditional z/OS data and key z/OS system services.

Other capabilities and performance improvements include pause-less garbage
collection (GC) reducing GC pause-times for response-time sensitive and large
heap applications, Data Access Accelerator, cryptographic acceleration via CP
Assist for Cryptographic Functions (CPACF) and vector hardware instructions.
The Java Virtual Machine (JVM) transparently exploits hardware Transactional
Memory to improve scalability of synchronized regions within multithreaded
application code. Furthermore, the JVM dynamically adapts to changing system
resource and capacity from System Recovery Boost for z/OS, by auto-scaling of
garbage collection and JIT compilation threads.

Please note that starting Version 11, IBM SDK for z/OS, Java Technology Edition
has been renamed to IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS. This
rebranding aligns the naming for Java on the z/OS platform with that on other
platforms where OpenJDK class libraries are similarly powered by the Eclipse
OpenJ9 JVM technology. The Semeru name originates from the tallest mountain on
the island of Java in Indonesia, called Mount Semeru.

IBM SDK for z/OS Version 8 contains IBM security implementation whereas IBM
Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS Version 11 contains the OpenJDK
security implementation. Differences between these implementations might
require code changes to your applications. For more details, refer to the
Semeru Runtimes security migration guide
. For
additional information about compatibility and migration, visit IBM
Documentation . IBM intends
to deliver other z/OS-specific extensions for IBM Semeru Runtime Certified
Edition for z/OS Version 11 over time with service refreshes.

How to obtain IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS, Version 11?
IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS, Version 11 is available for zero
license charge through Shopz (5655-DGJ) SMP/E, or you can download the
non-SMP/E here .  The
subscription and service number is 5655-I48.

Is there a field that would reflect LPAR soft-capping?

2021-11-19 Thread Charles Mills
I am thinking about coding an STC that would "do something" if LPAR
soft-capping kicked in. Is there a field somewhere in z/OS that gives the
MSU capacity of the LPAR *and that would change to reflect the effect of
soft-capping*?

This is for internal use, so I would be willing to bear the risks of a
non-GUPI field.

Thanks,

Charles

2021-11-19 Thread Carmen Vitullo
we used part of Mark Zelden's IPLINFO Rexx  on MSU usage, the field we
use is

  RCTLACS

I'd think you would need the defined MSU's (RCTIMGWU)  also and compare
the fields?

Check Marks IPLINFO, I think that would have everything you'd need.

of course there are other tools from other vendors but I think if you
want to build your own I'd be using the some fields Mark uses.

just my 2 cents

Re: Is there a field that would reflect LPAR soft-capping?

2021-11-19 Thread Charles Mills
@Carmen, thanks, that is a huge help. RCTLACS is documented as

Long-term average CPU service used by this logical partition, in millions of
service units per hour. If this value is above the partition’s defined
capacity, the partition will be capped. It is calculated using the physical CPU
adjustment factor (RCTPCPUA) so it may not match other measures of service
which are based on the logical CPU adjustment factor. It is available if the
hardware supports LPAR cluster

I am assuming I can get to the RCT (possibly by IPLINFO) and as an added bonus,
the field is GUPI!

So yeah, there is half the answer. So the next question is, where do I find
"the partition's defined capacity" (in MSUs/hour)?

we used part of Mark Zelden's IPLINFO Rexx on MSU usage, the field we

I'd think you would need the defined MSU's (RCTIMGWU) also and compare
the fields?

Check Marks IPLINFO, I think that would have everything you'd need.

of course there are other tools from other vendors but I think if you
want to build your own I'd be using the some fields Mark uses.

2021-11-19 Thread Carmen Vitullo
Charles I think the RCTIMGWU field is what you are looking for, in short
it's defined as

Image defined MSU's -  as the softcap is changed that value is updated,
I'm not 100% sure that's what your asking, if not sorry.

Mark's Rexx performs some calculations to report on used MSU's on a
rolling 4hr average and the unused MSU for the 4hr average

@Carmen, thanks, that is a huge help. RCTLACS is documented as

Long-term average CPU service used by this logical partition, in millions of

capacity, the partition will be capped. It is calculated using the physical CPU
adjustment factor (RCTPCPUA) so it may not match other measures of service
which are based on the logical CPU adjustment factor. It is available if the
hardware supports LPAR cluster

I am assuming I can get to the RCT (possibly by IPLINFO) and as an added bonus,

Using HTTPS from JCL for file download?

2021-11-19 Thread Billy Ashton

Hi all, I am back!
After successfully getting my FTPS and SFTP JCL set up and working right
here, some manager got a bee in his bonnet to say that he wanted to use
HTTPS protocol from his JCL, because he read that HTTPS was the best way
to go. I tried to explain that HTTPS was meant for browser applications,
and that some special application would be needed to process the HTTPS
headers and data, but he insisted I try to find a way to make HTTPS work
from JCL.

So...can this be done? Can a batch JCL job run HTTPS to do file
downloads? If so, can you help a brother out and let me see how you do
it, so I can see if we can do it here?

I appreciate this group - if it can be known, someone here will know it!

I use HTTPS from batch JCL, it works very well .

IBM provides this option on shopz once your order is placed.

I can provide some sample JCL but that JCL is the same as what IBM

The issue is you need an HTTPS client program to run in a job step.
Supplied with the z/OS base there is no HTTPS client program equivalent to
the z/OS Comm Server FTP client program. Some applications, like SMP/E,
have a built-in HTTPS client program to perform file download, but it is
specific for use by SMP/E and not for general use. I expect some folks
will chime in to recommend CURL or similar, but you'll have to obtain,
install, and configure that if you don't already have it. You could use
the HTTP Web Enablement Toolkit to write your own client program even in
REXX, but out of the box a fully functional HTTPS client program is not
readily available.

If your question is specific to SMP/E file downloads using HTTPS, then
check this out:
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos/2.5.0?topic=guide-preparing-secure-internet-delivery

The short answer is just add these to your specification and let
'er rip:
  downloadmethod=”https”
  downloadkeyring=”javatruststore”

However, if your question was for a general use HTTPS download client
program, then see my previous post.

Thanks. IRAQVS seems to have a bunch of useful stuff in it.

See if this will help in your efforts:
/* Rexx -*/
/* Call the Query Virtual Server service provided by WLM to get */
/* CEC and Image capacity, as well as other hardware identification. */
/* "IRAQVS" maps the returned data. */
/*---*/
QVSLEN  = 97   /* Set output area length */
QVSLENX = RIGHT(X2C(D2X(QVSLEN)),, /* Set area length as char*/
4,,/* Pad to fullword*/
D2C(0))/* Pad with '00'x */
   /**/
QVSOUT = QVSLENX ,/* Output area with length*/
||COPIES('00'X,QVSLEN-4)   /* Pad remainder with '00'x   */
   /**/
ADDRESS LINKPGM 'IWMQVS QVSOUT'/* Call Query Virtual Server */
   /**/
IF RC > 0 ,/* Something didn't work  */
THEN DO/* Perform the following */
  SAY "IWMQVS ERROR. RC =" RC /* Provide some diagnostics */
  EXIT /* Nothing more to do */
END/* End program error  */
   /**/
QVSVER   = C2D(SUBSTR(QVSOUT,5,1)) /* QVS version*/
QVSFLAGS = C2X(SUBSTR(QVSOUT,6,1)) /* Isolate returned flags */
CECVALID = SUBSTR(X2B(QVSFLAGS),1,1)   /* CEC information found? */
IMGVALID = SUBSTR(X2B(QVSFLAGS),2,1)   /* Image information found?   */
   /**/
IF QVSVER = 2 ,/* QVS extended information   */
THEN /* Perform the following */
  VER2 = X2B(C2X(SUBSTR(QVSOUT,97,1))) /* Get the bits I guess (TBD) */
   /**/
IF CECVALID , /* CEC information found */
THEN DO/* Perform the following */
  CECSTAT  = C2D(SUBSTR(QVSOUT,8,1))   /* Nominal/reduced capacity?  */
  CECTYPE  = SUBSTR(QVSOUT,9,4)/* Machine type   */
  CECMODEL = SUBSTR(QVSOUT,13,3)   /* Machine model  */
  CECMSUS  = C2D(SUBSTR(QVSOUT,65,4))  /* Machine MSU capacity   */
END/* End CEC information found */
   /**/
IF IMGVALID , /* MVS running in a partition */
THEN DO/* Perform the following */
  LPARNAME = SUBSTR(QVSOUT,69,8)   /* Get LPAR name  */
  LPARID   = C2D(SUBSTR(QVSOUT,77,2))  /* Get LPAR numeric identifier*/
  LPARMSUS = C2D(SUBSTR(QVSOUT,81,4))  /* Get LPAR MSU capacity  */
END/* End running in a partition */

The rest is NetView stuff to return the requested information back to the
caller, so I'll leave that to you!

"configure"? Just put it in your executable search path.
Everything else is in the (too many?) command line options.

That seems... not good. Simple use of zEDC compression was one nice
feature of Java on z/OS.
