Congratulations on your receptions of 738-BEL2 (awesome) and 657-Pyongyang (my
deepest condolences). The latter station has always had stronger signals here
than at any other DXer's home location, and is usually stronger than even the
Japanese on 594, 747 and 774. I have heard all of their recycled songs and
martial music about 15 times over, to the point where any North Korean station
can be ID'ed with a few bars of music. Colin in Victoria should be so lucky..

2018-10-28 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Finally gave up digging through this mornings files; one could dig all the way
to China.

Another mad morning, with I think a record number of totally readable signals
from several countries. One small mercy, things faded out fairly soon after
1500UT

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

567 JOIK "NHK rajio" mention by man 1415UT

594 JOAK man in Japanese over woman in Chinese? 1415UT;

603 HLSA woman in Korean //558 1416UT

639 CNR1 man in Chinese //945, 1414UT

747 JOIB man and woman in Japanese 1416UT

756 CNR1 man in Chinese // 639, pips, time check 1430UT

774 JOUB man and woman in Japanese 1419UT

819 N. Korea presumed female operatic choral singing 1424UT

828 JOBB woman in Japanese 1416UT

945 CNR1 man and woman in Chinese //1098 1433UT

972 HLCA woman in Korean,1415UT, something else underneath also

1098 CNR1 man // 945 1433UT

1098 CNR11? man singing a capella, sounded almost Arabic, solid for about a
minute 1432UT, no shortwave parallels available and I've crashed the CNR
website.

1287 JOHB two men Japanese 1449UT

1377 CNR1 man //1098 at this level for a short time 1445-6UT

1566 HLAZ man in Chinese 1434UT

1566 Chinese jammer? pop music, also on north Flag, drowning HLAZ 1443UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

531 JOQG man //594 1429UT

558 HLQH ballad //603 1436UT

621 echoey woman in Chinese 1435UT

657 N. Korea female operatic singing //855 1417UT

675 woman SE Asian language 1418UT, Vietnam assumed

693 JOAB //others 1430UT

738 man in Korean 1430UT, then fading under jazzy piano; HLKR? Fisheries?

855 N. Korea female operatic singing //657 1419UT

873 JOGB woman //747 1414UT

963 CRI female rock vocal //1323 1438UT

1044 CRI woman in Japanese 1429UT

1206 Yanbian woman singing , man in Korean 1416-7UT

1242 JOLF man Japanese 1436UT

1305 man in Chinese 1432UT

1323 CRI female rock vocal //963 1438UT

1593 CNR1 1441UT //various

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

576 NHK1 pair man //594 1433UT; new here?

585 JOPG man //594 1426UT; someone else too.

666 JOBK man in Japanese 1431UT

846 man and woman in Chinese 1450UT

864 man in Japanese 1433UT

891 monster carrier, but only weakish JOHK man //594 1431UT

918 echoey Chinese 1436UT

954 man in Japanese rising above something else 1450UT

1017 CRI Chinese lessons by the sound of it //5965 1450UT

1026 pop music, woman in Chinese 1427UT

1089 man in Chinese; also pop vocal not //NHK2 1426UT

1368 woman in Chinese 1443UT

1575 Voice of America IDs by man, Yankee Doodle 1430UT; suspect was stronger,
but I didn't catch it

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

702 woman talking, Chinese intonation, oriental stringed music 1418UT

702 NHK2 woman //774 1418UT

711 man talking, Korean? 1431UT, but Chinese also?

720 man in Chinese poking through KFIR 1432UT; didn't have time to check other
10kHz channels consistently

981 CNR1 man talking //945 1429UT

999 man and woman in Chinese? 1424UT; Anhui listed off at 1415UT

1008 woman talking, Chinese? 1452UT

1107 man talking, on north Flag, so Asian, but few hints as to language 1418UT

1116 man talking Chinese intonation, but someone else with music 1446UT

1224 Chinese sounding women, then pop music 1422UT

1314 woman Japanese? 1435UT

1386 NHK2 woman talkiknhg //774 1447UT

1458 unID man in echoey possible Chinese 1418UT, unusual choral music with
extended phrases 1427UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)

 729 765 882 (off channel) 927 936 1035 1053 1125 1215 1269 1359 1422 1485

nothing much seemed to be DU

Re: [IRCA] Michigan TP Asian logs this morning, October 28th, 2018

2018-10-28 Thread Bruce Portzer

Hi Tim

Those are some amazing recordings of 693 and 774 Japan .

Yanbian has been operating on 1205.96 as far back as I can remember.
The measured carrier frequency is so unique, it's as good as an ID in my
book.  I'm not sure about the music you heard at 1159.  I'll try to
start my SDR recording a bit earlier tomorrow and see if I can catch
what the station broadcasts at that time.  I don't recall this station
doing anything consistent at the ToH, like time pips or fanfare.

I woke up early and started my session at 1000 UT with the hope of catching
some audio from 1566 HLAZ after receiving a hint of the station a few days

band and was totally unprepared for what followed. It had me learning
Japanese, Korean, and Chinese frequencies in a hurry. In the 10 years or
so I've been doing this, the logs below are all new. These stations just
don't make it to Michigan as I've learned from years of trying. I guess
all it takes is a good solar minimum!

1205.960 with audio for a brief moment at 1147 UT, woman talking in what
sounded like an Asian language under domestic splatter. Some music noted
at 1159 UT, TOH fanfare? MWoffsets suggest China. A weak het also noted
near nominal. Recording: https://youtu.be/Aad-_17OQCg

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 28 October 2018

2018-10-28 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Another exciting morning. A few less Japanese today, but better for
Korea and China. In fact I have never heard Taiwan so well on 738, as
it hardly ever makes it here (the signal seemingly all absorbed in
Puyallup, much like the North Koreans), and it's my first log of it
since the last solar minimum. Three Alaskans heard also, including
KSDP, a rarity here. Also never heard CNR1 on 540, so another top notch
morning.
I know with certainty there was DX beyond listed here. I skipped
past some of the common stations during live listening, and in the
interests of time didn't check them all on reviewing the recording. My

[IRCA] Breakwater Inn (exGrayland Motel)

2018-10-28 Thread Chuck Hutton
On Friday Oct 12, we noticed work had been done on the front of the ex Grayland
Motel and the sign was gone.

Bruce Googled the address and found it had a new name: Breakwater Inn and
Cottahes.

So off we went on Sunday to find out what was happening. The result: we found
that the new owners (a nice couple) were busy renovating the place from top to
bottom. They're doing all the work themselves, and the cottages are finished
and look nice. The old run down place is no more!

The work on the motel part is just starting. They hope to have some of it open
in January.

I don't know exact prices but Becky (co-owner) knows the place will draw
families, beachcombers and clammers and won't try to be an upscale expensive
place.

We told her a bit about the history of radio at the Grayland Motel and about
our antennas. We passed the test and she's happy to have us.

It's just great to have the motel in the hands of someone that wants to
rejuvenate it, can do the work themselves, and isn't trying to get rich.

In a few months we'll go check it out and check the noise levels.

[IRCA] TAs in Seattle

2018-10-28 Thread Bruce Portzer

The TA's have been a lot more exciting in Victoria than in Seattle.

I've mostly been chasing carriers on 1413 and 1386 for the past 45
minutes.  1413 is the best but has only been producing tantalizing
traces of audio.

I've also been getting a weaker carrier on 1215, which I assume is Britain.

Certainly nothing as exotic as what Walt has reported.

[IRCA] A phasing story. Greenland 720 logged in IL.

2018-10-28 Thread Neil Kazaross
A phasing story from last night. I live 12 miles NNW from WGN's xmtr. I
put down a 288 ft BOG at about 35 deg // a 177 ft one. Phase null of WGN
peaked at about 50 dB and it was down close to S6 on Perseus. Sure enough
there's audio seeming // KNR webstream which was mostly talk. Then from
0104-8 a couple of bouncy tunes sung by females clinched it leaving me no
doubt. This using the Quantum Phaser which I think I'd like 2:1 or even 3:1
Vernier knobs for.

When I got Greenland at my WI DX paradise a decade ago, WGN and KNR were
about S7-8 using longer terminated BOGs. At 12 miles distance I have no
skywave to worry about.

I couldn't get Greenland on 650 where even though WSCR and WSM are close
together on the dial and in similar directions, WSCR IBOC crept up during
best null on WSM and visa-versa.

IBOC sucks but phasing ROCKS. Short BOGs aren't impressive 'til you phase
them to create good back nulls. 73 KAZ

Hi Walt,

Is it RNE or is it Romania which is often strong on 855 ?(and if it is, then
1179 and 1552 are also worth checking). I had 1179 giving me a het on Friday on
a rental car driving home, so it would be a channel to check as well.

2018-10-28 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Hoping I'm wrong, but so far the pattern is looking remarkably similar
to last night, with a peak just after local sunset, then a gradual
decline.    Have had audio on 693, 702, 855, 1026, 1089, 1215,
1386,1413, 1575.    Only 1089 and 1413 are still in audio at this
point.  1413 was in a class by itself, and better than anything on 1410
for a while.

[IRCA] Michigan TP Asian logs this morning, October 28th, 2018

2018-10-28 Thread Tim Tromp
I woke up early and started my session at 1000 UT with the hope of catching
some audio from 1566 HLAZ after receiving a hint of the station a few days
ago. Not even a carrier this morning. Then I started dialing down the
band and was totally unprepared for what followed. It had me learning
Japanese, Korean, and Chinese frequencies in a hurry. In the 10 years or
so I've been doing this, the logs below are all new. These stations just
don't make it to Michigan as I've learned from years of trying. I guess
all it takes is a good solar minimum!

Listening session: 1000 UT - 1230 UT
Local sunrise: 1214 UT

594 carrier strong at times and a little threshold audio at 1100 UTC TOH
allowing weak time pips to come through which seemed to match those used by
NHK (3+1).

693 JOAB with mostly continuous audio with man & woman talking from 1012 UT
up through 1200 UT, downright good at times against the domestic splatter.
3+1 time pips noted at 1100 & 1200 UT TOH. Recording:
https://youtu.be/Eml79LLf0RU

702 UNID w/ threshold audio at 1154 UT, presumed Asian or perhaps just a
weak DU off the North DKAZ (but no other common DUs were noted).

747 UNID some audio at 1152 UT, man talking, but no hope at recovering
audio while sandwiched between CFZM & CKJH. Any parallel to check for?

774 JOUB, like 693 with mostly continuous audio from 1030 through 1200 UT
and astonishly good at times // to 693. 3+1 time pips noted at 1100 & 1200
UT TOH. Recording: https://youtu.be/NZj6ju9flYg

828 UNID talk & language @ 1149 UT up through 1200 UT, strong signal but
not strong enough to overcome WCCO splatter.

972 HLCA? with music and talk in unid language under very heavy domestic
splatter. 3+1 time pips noted at 1200 UT TOH. Recording:
https://youtu.be/aWouwz3RE08

1205.960 with audio for a brief moment at 1147 UT, woman talking in what
sounded like an Asian language under domestic splatter. Some music noted
at 1159 UT, TOH fanfare? MWoffsets suggest China. A weak het also noted
near nominal. Recording: https://youtu.be/Aad-_17OQCg

TA’s — No one knows —

West and North Flags at the ready...

Thanks again to Bruce Portzer for great morning reports confirming some of the
fresh Chinese TP’s I was hearing on Saturday morning.

When you’re the low man on the DXER Totem pole, you need to be cautious about
what you report, because there are more seasoned DXERS at the ready to claim
that your “hearing things...” and such is the nature of the hobby. It’s all

[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on Oct 28

2018-10-28 Thread Bruce Portzer
Japanese stations were in short supply today, and Koreans weren't much
better.  Chinese on the other hand were quite plentiful.  My 1116
station turned out to be CNR2 thanks to a much better signal today.  I
had two stations on 1098: one with the CNR1 programming we've been
hearing all season, the other with unusual music and talk in a language
I didn't recognize.  Possibly CNR11 (Tibetan service)  One was likely
the 1000 kw TX listed in Golmud, but I'm not sure which it was, or for
that matter where the second station is located.

558    S KOREA, 1359 good with the usual Happy FM stuff, time tone & songs

567    JAPAN, JOIK, 1359 Japanese conversation, then 3+1 pips at ToH &
man with news.  Fair-good signal but much splat

585    JAPAN, JOPG, 1400 weak pips & Japanese talk

594    JAPAN, JOAK, 1431, Japanese discussion good, was mostly poor-nil
earlier

603    CHINA, Chinese talk mixing with Korea 1307 1400 1432 & other times

621    UNID, 1400 poor in horrific KCIS-630 splash, sounded like Chinese
time pips & inst music across ToH, then someone talking

639    CHINA, CNR1, 1400 fair poor in KCIS splash with  the usual time
pips, anmts, & ID

657    CHINA/DPRK, 1430 Chinese talk dominating, then orchestral music
from N Korea faded up, both good at times

666    JAPAN, JOBK, 1300 time pips & Japanese male  poor in splash

675    VIETNAM, 1302 stringed instrument music, then man & woman in
Vietnamese good

756    CHINA, 1430 two time tones, woman with what sounded like time
check, then man with what sounded like news fair-good

783    CHINA, 1403 woman in Chinese fair

810    CHINA, 1400, 5+1 pips ending at 1400:08, then bits of Chinese
talk mixing with KGO & KTBI

819    DPRK, 1407 dreamy orchestral music mixing with unid Chinese talk
fair-poor in KGNW splash

828    JAPAN, 1400 Portuguese talk across ToH, no pips.  By 1404 Chinese
talk in background.

837    CHINA, 1407 Chinese talk, then vocal music fair

855    DPRK, 1406 woman talking in Korean, a bit muffled with bits of
unid station in background

864    S KOREA 1400 very poor with  3+1 pips & bits of male talk

891    UNID, 1422 bits of talk sounded Chinese, and other bits sounding
maybe Korean, along with bits of music.  Rather weak audio but huge carrier.

900    CHINA, 1400 two sets of slightly off-sync 5+1 pips, then ghostly
sounding talk with very noticeable echo, poor u/CKBI

918    UNID, 1408,  Chinese talk in 920 splash probably Shandong

936    CHINA, 1417 woman in Chinese fair-poor probably Anhui

945    CHINA, CNR1. 1400 poor with the usual ToH stuff, lots of KJR
splash.  Better 1430 with time tones & talk but still plenty of KJR
splash today

963    CHINA, CRI 1445 fair w/woman in Russian

972    S KOREA 1400 3+1 pips & start of next program, unid Chinese
station in background with talk & 5+1 pips ending at 1400:16.

981    CHINA, CNR1 1300 1400 & 1500 fair with the usual ToH stuff

1017    CHINA, CRI 1500 fair w/usual fanfare and Korean/Chinese IDs

1035    CHINA CNR1 1324 group singing //981/1098 fair-poor

1044    CHINA, CRI 1300 poor w/opening fanfare for Japanese service

1098    CHINA, CNR1/unid, 1430 man in Chinese mixing with station
w/exotic vocal/flute music and woman in unid language.  Possibly CNR11
(Tibetan service)

1116    CHINA, CNR2, 1400, good w/clear ID as "Zhngyang Renmin Guangbo
Diantai, Jingji zhi Sheng".  This was apparently what I heard yesterday,
rather than CNR5. The music was similar, but yesterday's ID was far murkier

1170    S KOREA, KBS 1354 woman in Chinese u/KPUG, 1359 vocal song to
ToH, 3+1 pips then music & weak talk 1400

1305    CHINA, 1433 what sounded like ads in Chinese poor

1575    THAILAND, VOA, 1430 "Welcome to the Voice of America in Burmese"
then Burmese pgm fair

Hard to tell Walt. My initial feeling was that when stations faded
up, they were stronger than yesterday, but that might have been blind
luck in stumbling across them.

http://www3.telus.net/public/shallpat/4all/compare_peak2018Oct27-28.pdf
shows a comparison of peak signal strengths overnight for the same
period of time as seen on the DXFishbarrel. If anything, the peaks
look a little stronger today, but that covers all night, not just the

I'm intrigued that your west looking antenna has been doing better,
because here the north one has been superior mostly for Asians,
exclusive of those channel near the Vancouver, BC stations.

Re: [IRCA] TP madness in Michigan!

2018-10-28 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Just staggered back from the DXpedition to the basement in Victoria
myself. Not one but two full-bore Chinese on 1098, 1377 thundering
etc etc. plus all sorts of the usual suspects and more.

Can you imagine what Grayland would have been like this weekend?

best wishes,

Nick

Conditions look good here in Seattle too, similar to the past few days.
I've only been at the dials for a few minutes but it looks like China
and Korea are favored again.

[IRCA] Waters Edge DXpedition - Oct. 18 - 21

2018-10-28 Thread Bill Whitacre
I visited the Waters Edge HomeAway rental property near Fleeton, VA for the 6th
time from Oct. 18 - 21. Results are on this webpage:

http://realmonitor.com/am_logs_we6.php

A 160’ DKAZ was used pointing at 135 deg. -- further south than I had planned
thus I missed most of the fine TA loggings my friends at LBI enjoyed the same
weekend.

I also was reminded that the DKAZ is a wonderful ‘deer trap.’ On two
consecutive mornings I woke to find one of my masts BROKE due to a deer
incursion.

Conditions were far from auroral so I was mostly limited to the usual
collection of stations from PR, DR, Cuba and Colombia.

A couple of decent catches did struggle through the mundane to reach my antenna
though.

On 1290.3 kHz I had a re-log of Radio Timbira do Maranhao from Brazil:

http://realmonitor.com/we6/181019/0100/brazil-1290.wav

And on 828 kHz Magic 828 provided a weak but readable signal ...

http://realmonitor.com/we6/181019//south-africa-828.wav

… that I was not able to // with their on-line feed due to a really crappy
internet connection but recognized the voice of a rather distinctive male
announcer from a previous logging in Lubec, Maine last November ...

http://realmonitor.com/qh10/171113/qh100/2330/south-africa-828.wav

Fortunately, the weather was nice and my wife and I had a nice break from DC.

[IRCA] Part III for exceptional 25 Oct 2018 into Victoria,BC

2018-10-28 Thread Volodya S
As promised, here's the next chapter of my amazing morning. I noticed that
this morning (the 27th) was also very strong, but nonetheless, I have to
finish the 25th, so here goes up to 1116 kHz. 73, Walt Salmaniw

918 JAPAN YBC Yamagata Hoso YBC (tent), Oct 25 0534 - At 14:28, not at all
sounding Chinese, but rather Japanese tentatively, as was very weak. Much
improved by 14:31:30 with piano music, now over what assume was the
Japanese speaker, so perhaps the Shandong RGD now. Good reception there.
Unlike Colin's problem with 920, no issue at all for me for the mst part.
By 14:35, most definitely Chinese, and again at 14:42. (Salmaniw,Victoria,
BC)

930 ALASKA Ketchikan 1 kW KTKN, Oct 25 1428 - ID at 14:28 into an Adelle
song. Easily overpowering other cochannels. Good reception. Another nice
ID at 14:39 into weather. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

936 CHINA Hefei 200 kW Anhui RGD, Oct 25 1437 - Faded up nicely out of the
blue with vocal music. Presumed Chinese talk by OM at 14:40. Fair at
best, so better leave this a tentative. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

945 CHINA Jiaohe, Jilin 400 kW CNR 1, Oct 25 1427 - Strong reception in
Chinese at good level. Much stronger than //639. A bit of splatter from
950. Not sure whether there is a cochannel, or some music in the
background. Fanfare ID at 14:30. Faded down somewhat at 14:32 revealing
someone else. Aha! See my next log!. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

945 JAPAN Muroran 5 kW JOIQ, Oct 25 1433 - This channel is owned by CNR 1,
but for a minute before the positive ID, CNR 1 faded revealing someone
else, who then went into a piano piece. Yes! // to 594, so this is a
very 2nd tier NHK1 station of which 4 are listed at 1, 3 and 5 kW. I chose
the closest and most powerful on Hokkaido as the probable. I'm pleased!.
(Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

954 JAPAN Tokyo 100 kW JOKR, Oct 25 1426 - More splatter from 950 making
this one a bit more of a challenge. Lots of Japanese chatter, and
especially good at 14:36. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

963 CHINA Huaduan 600 kW CRI, Oct 25 1426 - Good to almost very good
reception of CRI's Russian service. // 1323 mostly not as strong.
(Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

972 SOUTH KOREA Dangjin 750 or 1500 kW HLCA, Oct 25 1436 - Wow, what a barn
burner signal! S9 + 20 at times and equal to domestic 970 which causes a
minor amount of splatter. Strongest station on the band upto now. Pretty
amazing signal! Korean banter mostly. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

981 CHINA various CNR 1, Oct 25 1443 - Thanks to Colin Newell for getting
me to persevere with this channel. Sure enough if I use USB and at 14:43,
there is some Chinese talk // to 945 (and 639) cinching the CNR 1 log. A
real tough catch with 980 CKNW Vancouver so strong!. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

1008 UNID unid, Oct 25 14 - A decent signal, and someone way down in the
mud, but never strong enough modulation to ID anything. Best around 14:38
and later. So much promise!. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

1017 SOUTH KOREA Andong 10 kW HLAW, Oct 25 1426 - MBC network listed at
fair to good level. I thought I weakly heard JOLB underneath, but soon
faded away. All talk until 14:39 when there was some vocal music.
(Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

1026 CHINA Guyang 200 kW Guizhou RGD, Oct 25 1431 - A tentative logging
with some Chinese breaking through the major slop. Ouch. Never amounted
to anything. Strongest Chinese station listed is his RGD. Who knows,
really. Poor. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

1044 CHINA Changzhou 300 kW CRI, Oct 25 1430 - Japanese programming
breaking through the slop briefly. Much improved after 14:34, with
Japanese being easily recognizeable. Almost good level then.
(Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

1089 CHINA ? CNR 6 or Liaoning RGD, Oct 25 1429 - Breaking through the
splatter, difficult to hear who's there. Not typical Mandarin, but more
like a South East Asian language. I could be wrong, though. Into music at
14:32. Almost good at 14:34 with EZL female vocal. More talk at 14:38
sounding more Chinese after all. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

1098 CHINA OR TAIWAN unid, Oct 25 1430 - A definite Chinese speaker here.
There may have been a fanfare at 14:30, but not entirely sure. Almost fair
at times, then faded down to almost nothing. Carrier remained strong, but
this might simply be the Marshall Islands. Decent talk again back at 14:40
or so. Became quite strong after that, but I stopped recording just before
14:43. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

1116 AUSTRALIA Brisbane 17 or 6.3 kW 4BC, Oct 25 1441 - Very nice reception
at 14:29 with a call in show (the woman sounded 2 sheets to the wind).
Faded down, but came back nicely after 14:37 and again at 14:41. Not much
other DU activity this morning. (Salmaniw,Victoria, BC)

Well, I guess there's still part IV to come! Stand by!Walt Salmaniw,
Victoria, BC

[IRCA] TP 27 Oct Victoria version.

2018-10-28 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
After Colin's amazing report, I was wondering what was wrong with my antenna.
For some reason, splash was fairly bad on the west Flag which is what I was
using before I got out of bed, so most of what he was reporting simply wasn't
making it here.

However, once I'd switched over to the north Flag, things got better, plus
there's a boost here around 1425UT, so I concentrated instead on the
1415-1500UT time period. As mentioned, 1500UT wasn't the end of the opening,
and in fact, HLAZ made an appearance as late as 1647UT with Russian talk, which
is nearly two hours after local sunrise here.

As usual, there were probably many fades up missed. And, maybe some of my
Chinese were as loud as Gary's, after all.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

558 HLQH ballad //603 1433UT

567 JOIK man in Japanese 1427UT

594 JOAK woman in Japanese over man in Chinese? 1436UT; however, many times
this was also nearly inaudible this morning

603 HLSA woman in Korean //558 1427UT

639 CNR1 echoing woman in Chinese //1251, 1427UT

747 JOIB woman in Japanese 1449UT

756 CNR1 man in Chinese, echoey and slightly offset from 639 1426UT

774 JOUB woman in Japanese 1358UT; heard at similar strength at 1531UT

828 JOBB English lessons 1419UT

918 man in Chinese 1436UT, then became echoey; assumed Shandong

945 unID instrumental music of some sort, well over CNR1 1426UT, but the
latter soon took over

945 CNR1 man and woman in Chinese //639 1427UT, taking over from above unID

972 HLCA woman in Korean,1418UT, something else underneath also; still had a
pretty good signal at 1609UT, but that was after a fade up.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

603 woman in Chinese 1427UT overtaking HLSA

612 JOLK two men talking //594 1425UT

657 N. Korea brief peak past splash with operatic singing //855 1429UT

855 N. Korea female operatic singing //657 1429UT

855 CNR2 woman talking //1116 1430UT

873 JOGB English lessons 1422UT

954 unID pop music 1434UT over weaker man in Japanese

954 JOKR man in Japanese 1440UT

963 CRI man in Russian 1436UT

1242 JOLF man in Japanese 1437UT

1287 JOHR two men in Japanese 1434UT

1566 HLAZ woman in Chinese 1424UT; still fading up to man in Russian at 1647UT

1575 VoA likely, woman in SE Asian language 1428UT, couldn't snag ID's on hour
or half hour; also sounded like someone withpop music at one point earlier

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

531 JOQG woman //531 1422UT

585 JOPG man //594 1429UT

621 woman in Chinese, very echoey 1433UT

702 woman in Chinese after rock music 1437UT; also NHK2, woman talking, //774

711 HLKA man in Korean //864 1432UT

720 N. Korea woman singing //819 1425UT

738 Taiwan Fisheries woman in Chinese 1426UT. and who knows what underneath

819 N. Korea woman singing, orchestral music 1426UT

864 HLKR man talking 1433UT; //711

945 NHK1 man //594 1422UT

1017 CRI pop music, woman in Korean 1434UT

1044 CRI woman in Japanese during quiet patch in 1040 splat 1442UT

1116 CNR2 woman in Chinese 1430UT //855

1323 CRI man in Russian //963 1431UT

1503 JOUK man //594 1428UT

1593 CNR1 woman in Chinese //945 but offset by more than a secodn 1448UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

585 orchestral music not //594, 1424UT; on north Flag, so not DU

675 mostly a bubbly mess. NHK1 man talking //594 1425UT; male vocal under might
have been Vietnam 1426UT

720 woman in Chinese? fading up to equal KFIR fading down 1430UT; not N. Korea
at this point

783 man in Chinese type mumbling 1423-5UT; so luck in tracking any sort of
parallel

846 mess of audio on north Flag, so...Asian, but who knows who

873 N. Korea woman singing //819 1426UT

900 man talking, Chinese intonation, echoey,not //621 1433UT

936 big carrier, weak audio, woman in possible Chinese, 1419UT, maybe someone
underneath also

963 NHK1 music //594 1434U

981 CNR1 woman talking, with echo //639 1420UT

999 man talking, Chinese sort of way 1424UT

1008 woman talking Chinese intonation 1457UT

1017 JOLB woman //774 1445UT

1035 CNR1 woman talking //639, but somewhat offset 1438UT

1089 JOHB woman //774 1446UT o/u woman talking, Chinese intonation

1098 CNR1 man //639 1422UT

1134 man in possible Korean, instrumental music 1434UT; unfortunately north
Flag hears Vancouver really well = 1130 splash

1143 Taiwan Fisheries woman //738 1426UT

1179 two stations, one a man with Chinese intonation 1431UT

1251 CNR1 woman //639 1427UT

1278 woman in Chinese, 1445UT

1305 two stations both sounding Chinese; who knows

1314 woman talking, Japanese intonation 1428UT

1377 CNR1 man talking //639 1447UT, back at 1521UT also

1386 ballad 1424UT not
