solutions to meet them. The two are partners. Think with resolve that a

Bismillah [IslamCity] The Companions of The Prophet(Abdur-Rahman Ibn Awf)

2008-07-21 Thread muslimah muslimah

The Companions of The Prophet
Abdur-Rahman Ibn Awf
Muslim Education Literacy Services
He was one of the first eight persons to accept Islam. He was one of the ten
persons (al-asharatu-l mubashshirin) who were assured of entering Paradise. He
was one of the six persons chosen by Umar to form the council of shura to
choose the Khalifah after his death.
His name in Jahiliyyah days was Abu Amr. But when he accepted Islam the noble
Prophet called him Abdur-Rahman -- the servant of the Beneficent God.
Abdur-Rahman became a Muslim before the Prophet entered the house of al-Arqam.
In fact it is said that he accepted Islam only two days after Abu Bakr
as-Siddiq did so.
Abdur-Rahman did not escape the punishment which the early Muslims suffered at
the hands of the Quraysh. He bore this punishment with steadfastness as they
did. He remained firm as they did. And when they were compelled to leave Makkah
for Abyssinia because of the continuous and unbearable persecution,
Abdur-Rahman also went. He returned to Makkah when it was rumored that
conditions for the Muslims had improved but, when these rumors proved to be
false, he left again for Abyssinia on a second hijrah. Fro m Makkah once again
he made the hijrah to Madinah.
Soon after arriving in Madinah, the Prophet in his unique manner began pairing
off the Muhajirin and the Ansar. This established a firm bond of brotherhood
and was meant to strengthen social cohesion and ease the destitution of the
Muhajirin. Abdur-Rahman was linked by the Prophet with Sad ibn ar-Rabi'ah. Sad
in the spirit of generosity and magnanimity with which the Ansar greeted the
Muhajirin, said to Abdur-Rahman: My brother! Among the people of Madinah I
have the most wealth. I have two orchards and I have two wives. See which of
the two orchards you like and I shall vacate it for you and which of my two
wives is pleasing to you and I will divorce her for you.
Abdur-Rahman must have been embarrassed and said in reply: May God bless you
in your family and your wealth. But just show me where the suq is..
Abdur-Rahman went to the market-place and began trading with whatever little
resources he had. He bought and sold and his profits grew rapidly. Soon he was
sufficiently well off and was able to get married. He went to the noble Prophet
with the scent of perfume lingering over him.
Mahyarn, O Abdur-Rahman! exclaimed the Prophet - mahyam being a word of
Yemeni origin which indicates pleasant surprise.
I have got married, replied Abdur-Rahman. And what did you give your wife as
mahr?
The weight of a nuwat in gold.
You must have a walimah (wedding feast) even if it is with a single sheep. And
may Allah bless you in your wealth, said the Prophet with obvious pleasure and
encouragement.
Thereafter Abdur-Rahman grew so accustomed to business success that he said if
he lifted a stone he expected to find gold or silver under it!
Abdur-Rahman distinguished himself in both the battles of Badr and Uhud. At
Uhud he remained firm throughout and suffered more than twenty wounds some of
them deep and severe. Even so, his physical jihad was matched by his jihad with
his wealth.
Once the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was preparing to
dispatch an expeditionary force. He summoned his companions and said:
Contribute sadaqah for I want to dispatch an expedition. Abdur-Rahman went to
his house and quickly returned. O Messenger of God, he said, I have four
thousand (dinars). I give two thousand as a qard to my Lord and two thousand I
leave for my family.
When the Prophet decided to send an expedition to distant Tabuk -- this was the
last ghazwah of his life that he mounted - his need for finance and material
was not greater than his need for men for the Byzantine forces were a numerous
and well-equipped foe. That year in Madinah was one of drought and hardship.
The journey to Tabuk was long, more that a thousand kilometers. Provisions were
in short supply. Transport was at a premium so much so that a group of Muslims
came to the Prophet pleading to go wit h him but he had to turn them away
because he could find no transport for them.
These men were sad and dejected and came to be known as the Bakka'in or the
Weepers and the army itself was called the Army of Hardship ('Usrah). Thereupon
the Prophet called upon his companions to give generously for the war effort in
the path of God and assured them they would be rewarded. The Muslims' response
to the Prophet's call was immediate and generous. In the fore front of those
who responded was Abdur-Rahman ibn Awl. He donated two hundred awqiyyah of gold
whereupon Umar ibn al-Khattab said to the Prophet: I have (now) seen
Abdur-Rahman committing a wrong. He has not left anything for his family.
Have you left anything for your family, Abdur-Rahman? asked the Prophet.
Yes, replied Abdur-Rahman. I have left for them more than what I give and
better.
How much? enquired the Prophet.

Bismillah [IslamCity] the month of Rajab

2008-07-21 Thread PoEtEsS
In the Name of Almighty Allah
 Most Gracious, Most Merciful

 Assalamualaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu

 Alhamdu Lillaahi Rabbil 'Aalameen was-Salaatu
was-Salaamu 'alaa Asrafil Anbiyaa'e wal Mursaleen.

 Wa Ba'd:

Oo see kum Ibad'allah Bi Taqwa'llah

Alhumdoelillah!  On this Mubarak Day of Jummah as we enter the month of Rajab,
it is imperative for each and every one of us to understand what Islam is all
about. It is indeed a most wonderful blessing when we get into the attitude of
humble devotion to Almighty Allah Subuhanahu Wata'ala because in so doing we
get to know who we are, we get to know what we are; and we get to know why we
are here and where we are heading too. During the month of Rajab let us get
into the habit of remembering our Glorious Creator and Maker. Let us remember
Him all the time whether we are sitting or walking, sleeping or awake. In our
Ibadah let us stand in complete humility and humbleness to show that we are
indeed His grateful servants and that we are eagerly preparing ourselves to
welcoming the wonderful months of Sha'baan and Ramadan.

Beloved Ummatal Qur'an!The month of Rajab prepares us for devotion and doing
good deeds because we come to the realization that a true Muh'min does not
build his or her hopes on the vanities of this material world, but on Almighty
Allah's Grace and Mercy. Such a person is 'endued with understanding' and
receives Allah's Message with fervour and alacrity. The message of Rajab is for
us to understand Almighty Allah's Message and to expand our spiritual
understanding and to receive Allah's Light, so that we may travel farther and
farther to our Goal in the Path of Truth and Righteousness. After all, we are
not to be compared to those who shut out Allah's Light from their hearts.
Almighty Allah makes it very clear to us in verse 9 of Surah Az-Zumar. He tells
that there is spiritual progress for those who seek Him through constant Ibadah
and hoping for His Mercy in the Hereafter [Aghirah]. As for those who have
closed their hearts to Him- they have floundered and retrogressed on the
Straight Path and cannot walk with those of assured Faith.

Is he who prays in the late hours of the night, prostrating and standing,
beware
of the Hereafter and hoping for the Mercy of his Lord, (to be counted equal)
with
a disbeliever? Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Are those who know be treated
equal
with those who know not? But only men of understanding will pay heed.

During the analysis and study of the Most Noble and Holy Qur'an, the first
question that arises is whether the Glorious Qur'an can be studied and
understood. Has this Divine Book been introduced for the purpose of studying
and understanding it, or whether it is just for reading and reciting and
obtaining reward and blessings? You may wander why I have raised such a
question. The Most Glorious Qur'an demands that the believers and the faithful,
and even invites the infidels to contemplate, reflect and ponder upon its
verses. Addressing us the Most Noble Qur'an declares in verse 24 of Surah
Muhammad:

Do they not then earnestly seek to understand the
Qur'an, or is it that there are locks upon their hearts?

O Ummatul Muslimeen! The Most Glorious Qur'an has not been sent to us to be
kissed, embraced and to be placed on a niche or pedestal just to gather dust.
It was sent to us to be read, to ponder upon, to reflect and to contemplate
upon its divine meanings. The Most Glorious Qur'an, like the book of Nature, is
a Divine Revelation that was not sent for a specific age and time.  Our most
Beloved Nabee Sallallahoo Alayhi Wasallam said: The Qur'an, like the sun and
the moon, will preserve its movement and continuity because the Glorious Book
of Almighty Allah is not static or monotonous. He is also reported to have
said: The Holy Qur'an is most beautiful outwardly and inwardly it is deep and
unfathomable.

In short, the Most Glorious Qur'an is not for an exclusive age or for an
exclusive people because it has been sent for all ages and for the entire human
race. One of the questions that I would like to raise is verse 6 of Surah Al
Fatiha: Ih'dinas Seeratal Mustaqeem [Guide us in the Straight Path]. What
does it signify that some of us repeat this verse at least 48 times every day
in the performance of our Salaat - Guide us in the Straight Path? If Islam is
the Straight Path, are we not already on the Right Path being Muslims?  If
Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala Most Merciful has shown us the Right Path,
why do we continue to ask Him to guide us in the Straight Path? In answer to
such questions it is a fact that the notion of:
Ih'dinas Seeratal Mustaqeem has not only been formulated for the purpose of
uttering it every day in our Salaat, but because we are always in need of
Divine Guidance. Why? Because human life is not similar to the highly automated
cycles of a machine or a computer that works according to certain

Nelson Mandela sat beaming, his legs propped up and covered with a blanket as
10 grandchildren sang Happy Birthday and smothered him with hugs and kisses as
he celebrated his 90th birthday on Friday.
At his home in rural south-eastern South Africa, elders in traditional dress
came to pay their respects, sheep were trucked in and bare-breasted young women
sang and danced.
The man himself still found time to read a pile of newspapers, to keep up with
local and international affairs.
Mandela told a small group of reporters he was fortunate to have reached 90,
but remains troubled by the demoralising poverty still faced by so many of his
countrymen.
His message was simple - the wealthy must do more.
There are many people in South Africa who are rich and who can share those
riches with those not so fortunate, who have not been able to conquer poverty,
he said.

Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years for fighting apartheid and after his
release in 1990 lead negotiations to end racist white rule, before being
elected president in South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994.
He completed his term in 1999 and did not run again, but has continued to take
a leading role in the fight against poverty, illiteracy and Aids in Africa.
Birthday messages have been pouring in, including from US President Bush, who
applauded Mandela as a great example of courage, hope, and the power of
freedom.
A variety of birthday celebration events are planned in Mandela's honour this
weekend, including a lunch with 500 dignitaries, a soccer festival and a pop
concert.

Fidel Castro hails Mandela at 90 as 'symbol of humanity's highest nobility'

HAVANA: Fidel Castro on Sunday hailed Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday, calling
the Nobel Peace Prize winning icon a symbol of humanity's highest nobility.
Glory to you Nelson, for 25 years from a solitary prison you defended human
dignity! Castro wrote in a brief note to Mandela that was published in the
Communist youth newspaper Juventud Rebelde and appeared in other
state-controlled media. You knew how to resist and, without wanting to or
trying to, you became a symbol of humanity's highest nobility.
Mandela turned 90 on Friday. Imprisoned for nearly three decades for fighting
apartheid, he was release in 1990 and went on to be elected president in South
Africa's first democratic elections.
Castro, who is suffering from an unknown illness and will tun 82 next month,
has not been seen in public since undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in
July 2006. His younger brother Raul succeeded him as president in February,
becoming Cuba's first new head of state in 49 years.
Fidel Castro won the gratitude of many Africans by sending 350,000 troops to
battle the former white-dominated South African government in Angola's civil
war, draining resources from the apartheid system.

When Mandela was inaugurated as South Africa's first black president in 1994,
he made Castro a guest of honor and praised Cuba's selfless support for the
struggle to free all of South Africa's people.
Castro wrote to Mandela Sunday that you will live on in the memories of future
generations and with you, so will the Cubans who fell defending liberty and
their brothers in other parts of the world.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Israel uses rats against Jerusalem (palestinian) Arabs

Palestinians: Israel uses rats against Jerusalem Arabs

ref:
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1215331024847pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

The Palestinian Authority's official news agency Wafa says Israel is using rats
to drive Arab families out of their homes in the Old City of Jerusalem.

In the past the news agency, which is controlled and funded by PA President
Mahmoud Abbas's office, has accused Israel of using wild pigs to drive
Palestinians out of their homes and fields in the West Bank. In the reports,
Palestinians were quoted by the agency as saying that they had seen Israelis
release herds of wild pigs, which later attacked them.

But this is the first time that Palestinians have spoken of rats being used
against them.

Rats have become an Israeli weapon to displace and expel Arab residents of the
occupied Old City of Jerusalem, Wafa reported under the title, Settlers flood
the Old City of Jerusalem with rats. The report continued: Over the past two
months, dozens of settlers come to the alleyways and streets of the Old City
carrying iron cages full of rats. They release the rats, which find shelter in
open sewage systems.

Wafa quoted unnamed Arab residents as saying that they had tried to eliminate
the rats with various poisons, but to no avail.

Israel's goal was to increase the suffering of the [Arabs] in Jerusalem by
turning their lives into a real tragedy and forcing them to evict their homes
and leave the city, Hasan Khater, secretary-general of the Islamic-Christian
Front in Jerusalem, was quoted as saying.

Jerusalem Municipality spokesman Gidi Schmerling said that the report was pure
fiction, and had no connection to reality.

Arab League slams ICC prosecutor
Agencies

CAIRO: The Arab League yesterday criticized the International Criminal Court's
prosecutor for seeking the arrest of Sudan's president on genocide charges,
saying diplomacy should be given a priority to solve the conflict in Darfur.

Arab foreign ministers, holding an emergency meeting in Cairo, said Arab League
Secretary-General Amr Moussa would head to Khartoum today to inform the
Sudanese leadership of a plan to defuse the crisis. Moussa said he would
announce the details within two days.

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Luis
Moreno-Ocampo, has asked the court for a warrant for President Omar Bashir on
suspicion of masterminding crimes against humanity in his country's troubled
Darfur region.

Moreno-Ocampo accused Bashir of running a campaign of genocide that killed
35,000 people outright, at least another 100,000 through a slow death and
forced 2.5 million to flee their homes in Darfur. The final communiqué of the
meeting said the ministers called for giving priority to a political
settlement... and sought an international high-profile summit to push the
political process in Darfur.

The resolution criticized Moreno-Ocampo's unbalanced stance for asking ICC
judges to issue a warrant for Bashir's arrest, which, if granted, would be the
first ever issued by The Hague-based court against a sitting head of state.
Earlier opening the meeting, Djibouti Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssef said
the ICC had set a dangerous precedent. The indictment sets a dangerous
precedent in dealing with heads of state. It will have dangerous repercussions,
not only for Sudan but also for the whole region, said Youssef, who chaired
the meeting.

Hours before the meeting convened, Yemen's lower house of Parliament condemned
the charges against Bashir as legally groundless.

A resolution passed by the 301-seat Yemeni Assembly of Representatives
dismissed them as a complete falsehood and an infringement on Sudan's internal
affairs. It added that the charges were part of a plot targeting Arab and
Muslim nations. The perception that the charges are politically motivated has
been expressed by other Arab officials.

At the Cairo meeting, Youssef criticized what he branded the double standard
of the international community, saying that the world has been watching for
years Palestinians suffering without moving to end it. The charges against
Bashir came a year after the court indicted Sudanese Humanitarian Affairs
Minister Ahmed Harun, who was formerly in charge of security in Darfur, and
suspected militia leader Ali Kushayb for crimes against humanity.

Before yesterday's meeting, a source said the ministers would discuss a
proposal urging Bashir to surrender Harun and Kushayb to the ICC in return for
asking the UN Security Council to defer prosecution of Bashir for at least a
year. Such a suspension, which is indefinitely renewable, is necessary because
the penal process against Bashir reduces the chances of peace in Darfur, a
diplomat said.

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom
(i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue
with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone
astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.} (Holy
Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: My Lord is Allah (believes in
His Oneness), and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites
(men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: I
am one of the Muslims.} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By Allah, if
Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of
camels. [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, Whoever
calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who
follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all.
[Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]

Bismillah [IslamCity] HIJAB

2008-07-21 Thread Sadia Khan

HIJAB
HIJAB MORE THAN A HEAD COVER
Muslim woman wear a hijab...which is more than just a head cover..becoz ALLAH
ordered them to do soin two places in QURANand as PROPHET(pbuh) also ordered
her to do so.
The QURAN says (surah:24 verse:30-31)
Tell the believing men to lower thier gazeand be modest. That is purer for
them.LO! ALLAH is aware of what they do.And tell the believing women to lower
their gazeand be modest and to display of their adornmentonly that which is
apparentand to draw their veils upon their bosoms, and not to reveal their
adornment save to their own fathers, husbands or husbands` fathers ,or their
sons or their husbands` sons,or their brothers or their brothers`sons or
sisters`sons,or their women or their slaves,or male attendants who lack
vigor,or children who know naught of women nackedness.AND let them not  stamp
their feet so as toreveal what they hide of their adornment. AND turn unto
ALLAH together, O! Believers in order that ye may succeed.
These verses tell us thatour islamic dress is notjust a matter of covering the
head alone, but also covering the bosom, which is attractive to men, and of
lowering the gaze and walking in the way that does not attract attention.NOTE
that the order to lower the gaze was first addressed to men
QURAN also says( surah:33 verse:59)
O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughtersand the women of believers to draw
their cloaksclose round them(when they go out). That will be better, that so thay
may be recognized and not annoyed.ALLAH is ever forgiving and merciful.
This indicates that one of the reasons for Hijab is to distinguish the
believingwomen from the non believing.
The fact is thatmen do like to look at womens` bodies, so a woman who covers
herself is more likelyto be respected as a person than looked upon as a piece
of meat!
It is true that men dont have to cover their heads, but their is a dress code
for them, as well, although it is not so widely publicized as the women`s dress
code. M en must  atleast be covered from the navel to the knees with loose
fitting clothes. The rules for men are different because women are less likely
to ogle menthan the other way around.
HIJAB is a women`s right to maintain her modesty and to be respected as a
person. If one woman has to go half naked in the public, Why does not the other
woman has the right to cover herself in public? Why it is to be looked upon as
an oppression if she chooses to be modest?
ALLAH KNOWS BEST

An Iran-made herbal drug for AIDS has been tested on over 200 patients
and has shown promising results in improving the condition.

Reported to be more efficient when used in HIV positive patients with CD4
below 350, Immuno-Modulator Drug (IMOD) prevents entry into advanced stages of
AIDS and can be taken along with other anti-retroviral drugs.

The herbal medication has shown to effectively control the multiplication
of the HIV virus in a 90-day treatment course by increasing the number of CD4
cells, the deficiency of which leads to the appearance of AIDS symptoms and
related infections.

According to Minoo Mohraz, Head of the Iranian AIDS Research Center, the
new medicine has been tested in a 21-month period and has helped boost the
immune system of 65 percent of the over 200 patients. The medication has had no
noticeable side effects.

IMOD is produced using plants native to Iran; small dosages of the drug
have reportedly shown to be as effective as anti-retroviral medications.
