[JAWS-Users] Removing Jaws key- Adding Back to Count

2009-10-03 Thread Bill Tipton
Hello,

How do I remove my Jaws key from my PC running XP Pro and add it back to my
available Jaws keys?

I have had multiple PC failures and have used lots of keys. I do not want to
call FS again to bump up my count if I do not have to.
I am about to re-install Windows on a PC and want to remove the Jaws key, add
it back to my count, so when I reinstall Jaws on that
PC and activate Jaws I would not have used any additional keys.

Thank you,

Bill

Good deal. I find it works really well with JAWS, though I really have to
wonder what the new look is all about, since it looks like it always has,
except for the annoying bullets in the message windows. And by the way, for
anyone wondering, the annoying issue of JAWS repeating the same thing over

Re: [JAWS-Users] The JAWS cursors

2009-10-03 Thread Jon Pierson
Hi Martin,
If you have an audio cd that came with your version of Jaws you should go
through much of that material.
Basically though, the JawsCursor is what sighted PC users would call the
mouse pointer.
It can be sitting just about anywhere, even on the desktop while the person
is in a word processor or other program.
You will find it useful when moving the PcCursor doesn't yield enough
information or allow you access to controls you need.

Oh and if you didn't get a cd you can always find books under training in
the Jaws help system which detail very nicely all of these concepts.

Jon

Why the hesitation in upgrading to the latest version of WLM? It works
well

I got to where I don't notice the bullets anymore lol. I too

My sighted friend said a lot of the latest version has to do

when someone writes you is something I actually like,
because whan I have stepped out, I can still hear jaws
announcing the message, whereas I would before this , lots
of times, not even know someone treid to contact me until I

I have had multiple PC failures and have used lots of keys. I do not
want to call FS again to bump up my count if I do not have to.
I am about to re-install Windows on a PC and want to remove the Jaws

Hi listers. MS has just released its new free anti-malware program,
Microsoft Security Essentials, for public download. Has anyone tried it
out yet during the beta testing cycle? Is it really JAWS-friendly and
easy to use? Based on the overwhelmingly positive preliminary reviews, it

looks like MS has hit a home run. If MSE is truly JAWS accessible, it
sounds like a great alternative to the free versions of AVG and Avast. If

2009-10-03 Thread Gerald Levy

I know, I know. It can't be any good if it's from MS. But preliminary
reviews of MSE have been very positive for the most part. Most reviewers
agree that MSE is at least as effective at detecting malicious threats as
the free versions of AVG and Avast, if not more so. Of course, it is
probably not as effective as the paid versions of more complete security
suites. But it definitely warrants serious consideration for JAWS users who
are looking for a basic, fully accessible and easy to use free real-time
anti-malware program.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE Now Available

2009-10-03 Thread Mark Driesenga
Actually, you can uninstall it via Add/Remove. I did it on both my XP
machine and my Vista machine. The trick is a dialog that pops up for a short
time asking you to confirm if you're the one uninstalling the program. On my
XP box, Jaws read the dialog perfectly fine, however, on my Vista machine,
it didn't and I had to guess where the correct button was. But, really, the
worst that could happen is you hit no and have to go back through the
process again until you get it right. You may need to alt tab to where you
think the dialog is if you have the same experience I did, but don't let
that stop you from at least trying to uninstall Avast. If this fails, then
use sighted assistance to go through putting Windows into safe mode. But
that should be the last resort. Trust me, I had a hard time uninstalling
Avast because I didn't know about that dialog, but I was able to figure it
out once I discovered that dialog, without any sighted assistance whatever.
And, by the way, I am totally blind and have absolutely no vision at all, so
it certainly is possible.

Hi,

1. You need to download our uninstall utility that you can download here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
2. Suspend avast! (right-click on the blue a-ball icon in the system tray
(the bar at the bottom of the screen which contains the clock) Program
settings... Troubleshooting mark Disable avast! self-defense module
OK
3. Turn computer in the Safe mode (Restart your computer. After hearing
your

press F8. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select

the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.)
3. Run aswClear.exe

I wonder does anybody know if this works with any existing anti
malware or anti virus commercial applications like AVG installed? It
is not clear on the Microsoft page.
Commercial Anti- virus programs normally do not like being
installed at the same time as another anti-virus program.

Yes, it is accessible, and free. It also allows you to schedule
 automatic scans.

Hi listers. MS has just released its new free anti-malware program,
Microsoft Security Essentials, for public download. Has anyone tried
 it
out yet during the beta testing cycle? Is it really JAWS-friendly and
easy to use? Based on the overwhelmingly positive preliminary reviews,

 it

looks like MS has hit a home run. If MSE is truly JAWS accessible, it
sounds like a great alternative to the free versions of AVG and Avast.
 If
you're interested in learning more about MSE, check it out:

Hello,

Got these instructions from Blind Access Journal at:
http://blog.blindaccessjournal.com/2009/09/download-instructions-for-microso
ft.html

Until Microsoft corrects the download process, an alternative exists for
blind users to gain access to the software. Follow these steps to download
Microsoft Security Essentials:

1. Visit the Microsoft Security Essentials Web site.

2.Select the Locales and languages link.

3.Press the screen reader keystroke to redraw or refresh the interpretation
of the screen's contents. This command is Insert+Escape for JAWS and System
Access, and Insert+Backslash for Window-Eyes. This step is critical in order
to view the information that has changed on the dynamic Web page.

4.Select the country in which you are located from the combo box.

5.Select the link appropriate for the 32- or 64-bit operating system you are
running. The download process begins.

I haven't tried out the program myself and would like to kno people's
experiences with it to see if it's in fact a viable alternative to other
security packages that are out there right now.

Sorry about not telling you that. Here's how to download MSE. First, go to
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials then click on the languages and
locales link, at which point select your country in the combo box, then
choose your operating system. From there, it's pretty self-explanitory.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE Now Available

2009-10-03 Thread Mark

Hi
Actually, I downloaded what I thought was the program. I ended up with
a 90 day trial version. After that I will have to pay for a subscription.
Next I found the program I ended up with has a fire wall that does not like
windows mail. So, I had to turn the fire wall off. Other then these two
things I love the program!

God bless,
