 right on Rick...
They could start with some of the problems that have been
around so long we kind of refer to them as no cost extras.
A few examples might be:

Jaws repeating one or more lines of text at random in
virtually any windows based application.

Randomly loosing focus in the same applications listed
above.

Support for more productivity software.

See list archives for more suggestions.

How about a screen-reader that reads the screen?
since you can get the same results of the research it
feature by learning to
use the internet.
I think the more people ask Freedom Scientific to include
other functions
into Jaws,
the further away we get from Jaws actually being useful in
applications as
it once was.
At the rate that features are being included, that do not
address problems
of accessibility in specific applcations,
Jaws will be less of a screen-reader, and more of an
operating system.
Just my opinion.

Hello list,

Recently when using Outlook 2003 and JFW 11 I've run into a problem when
tabbing down from the list view of messages to the field of text, I'll
get a
bunch of text quite similar to what Jaws would read if I had the
invisible
cursor activated or if I've virtualized the entire window. Instead of
the
actual e-mail text. I've only noticed it within the last couple of weeks
or

so. I cant' be exact in the timing, but I don't think I encountered this
issue prior to installing the latest Jaws update posted this month.

It's only happened 5 or 6 times., but again, I don't remember this
happening
anytime before. The only thing that seems to fix it is closing Outlook
and
reopening it. So, nothing terribly inconvenient or disruptive, but
still, if

it becomes more and more frequent, then it might very well become so.

In any event, I was curious to know if others have been experiencing
this
issue. I was planning FS tech support about it next week, but thought
I'd
ask around here as well just in case it may be some sort of isolated
thing.
I'll go ahead and paste the text at the end of this message as well.
Again,

I'm running the latest JFW 11, xp pro and outlook 2003. Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] research it

2010-01-02 Thread tim

I understand your thoughts and agree with them.
More bells and whistles are not the answer to accessibility. making
the software you use and web you research with more readable should
be the goal.
I got a macBook with voice over on it. It does pretty good with some
of the apps out there. One thing I did notice about it was the gmail
site. It doesn't have to be in basic view to be used. Voice over
reads in both ways just as good.

Now why can't others do at least that good of job at being accessible?
Apple don't think about bells and whistles. They think of the whole
system as being useable. Even NVA does a decent job of reading and
its free. Just food for thought for those that still think not like sheep.

[JAWS-Users] O E delete and collapsed messages

2010-01-02 Thread rich
I have X P home and 10.00.
I had issues with O E and now that I made some changes, when I delete collapsed
messages, JAWS asks if I want to delete all messages. In the past, when I hit
the delete button, the collapsed messages would go directly in to my delete
folder with out any prompt.
How can I get this feature back again?

Also; I have not heard from the list on the exact steps to recover lost O E
info. such as contacts and e mails.
Remember, I tried to restore to a previous date while in Fast Access DSL
with my previous O E problems.
When the system came up I noticed my information was gone.
For instance, around 12/25, I set the restore date to 12/11. O E delivered
about 600 messages from 12/15 and nothing prior. I had to go through each of
those messages that had been previously read.
The DSL technician said my info was lost since there was nothing on the server,
and probably gone from the hard drive.
I am afraid if I experiment with the system restore that I will screw
everything up again, and my wife will get very angry. She has a mean left hook.
with me again.

Thanks for any help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] research it

2010-01-02 Thread Leonard Morris
For the most part I agree with the sentiment that the role of adaptive
technology should be i.e. screen readers and/or software should be to make
off the shelf applications accessible. Where I somewhat disagree is when I
hear people say that adaptive technology should not be designed specifically
with the disabled users in mind. SpeakOn is designed specifically for blind
users to bring audio content that a blind person can use without any sight
intervention. In fact as I understand it nothing is visible on the screen
accept the word SpeakOn. I wish Freedom Scientific or a company like Freedom
Scientific would develop an operating System solely for blind and low
vission users. Why are we as blind people so concerned about offending the
mainstream when the reality is that the objective of software developers
goals are to design products that are more user-friendly for the mainstream
populace which means more and more graphics leading to less and less
accessibility for the sight impaired community which means adaptive
companies are constantly playing the catch up game.

How about a screen-reader that reads the screen?
since you can get the same results of the research it feature by learning
to

use the internet.
I think the more people ask Freedom Scientific to include other
functions

into Jaws,
the further away we get from Jaws actually being useful in applications
as

it once was.
At the rate that features are being included, that do not address
problems

of accessibility in specific applcations,
Jaws will be less of a screen-reader, and more of an operating
system.

Just my opinion.

[JAWS-Users] follow up message to problem with jaws

2010-01-02 Thread Kimsan Song
Hi,

I'm doing a follow up message to one I posted the other day. Would anyone
know why after I log into windows, my jaws does not work correctly?

When reading status line it doesn't work, when doing insert F 11 to read the
items on the system tray jaws says unselected. Please help. After logging
in, I'm needing to always unload jaws and reload it in order for it to work
correctly.

Hi, Ann,
I'm glad you are enjoying the tutorials.

To answer your first question about headings, you can get to the various
headings on the web site by either pressing h, pressing numbers for heading
levels, or, depending on your screenreader, there may be a keystroke to pull
up a list of headings.

Regarding making changes on the mobile site: To make changes to your
profile and guarantee that they stick, it is still a good idea to use the
full site. I've never had a problem with deleting messages from the mobile
site only to have them show up on the full site, so I'm not sure about that.

 Hi, Ann,
I'm glad you are enjoying the tutorials.

To answer your first question about headings, you can get to the various
headings on the web site by either pressing h, pressing numbers for
 heading
levels, or, depending on your screenreader, there may be a keystroke to
 pull
 up a list of headings.

Regarding making changes on the mobile site: To make changes to your
profile and guarantee that they stick, it is still a good idea to use the
full site. I've never had a problem with deleting messages from the
 mobile
site only to have them show up on the full site, so I'm not sure about
 that.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
 Erin

 Hi Erin,
Good info on tutorial. I am Unsure how you navigated from heading to
heading, I'll assume you typed the letter h? Yes?
I only listened to part 1. I'll listen to part 2 at a later time today
 or
 tomorrow.
Maybe my questions will be answered by reading the application part on
 Facebook or in part 2.
Anyway, I had a photo on profile which I have no idea how it got there.
My friend sent me a photo in Facebook and suggested that I use it on my
profile. I ignored this message and photo.
A few days later, I did post a message to my wall and a friend sent a
message to ask me who was other person in my profile photo.
When I was on the mobile site I deleted this photo; Facebook confirmed
 deletion.
However, it still showed on the Facebook site. So my question is that
 if
you want to change anything on profile do I need to be on Facebook and
 not
the mobile site for changes to occur?
I also noticed that when on mobile facebook site, when I delete messages
either sent privately or on wall that messages are deleted from mobile
facebook but still appear on Facebook.
So do all changes need to done on Facebook site?
 Thanks,
 Ann

I am not certain about this, but in order to have your Yahoo Mail come into
outlook, you have to have a paid Yahoo account as opposed to the basic

I have X P home and 10.00.
I had issues with O E and now that I made some changes, when I delete
collapsed messages, JAWS asks if I want to delete all messages. In the
past, when I hit the delete button, the collapsed messages would go
directly in to my delete folder with out any prompt.

How can I get this feature back again?

Also; I have not heard from the list on the exact steps to recover
lost O E info. such as contacts and e mails.
Remember, I tried to restore to a previous date while in Fast Access
DSL with my previous O E problems.

When the system came up I noticed my information was gone.
For instance, around 12/25, I set the restore date to 12/11. O E
delivered about 600 messages from 12/15 and nothing prior. I had to go
through each of those messages that had been previously read.
The DSL technician said my info was lost since there was nothing on
the server, and probably gone from the hard drive.
I am afraid if I experiment with the system restore that I will screw
everything up again, and my wife will get very angry. She has a mean
left hook. with me again.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks.

I am not certain about this, but in order to have your Yahoo Mail come into
outlook, you have to have a paid Yahoo account as opposed to the basic
account. Then you need to learn the settings from your internet service
provider and put those settings into outlook.

Re: [JAWS-Users] O E delete and collapsed messages

2010-01-02 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi Rich,

Another thing to try is when you get that dialog box that says Outlook
Express
Messages in the selected collapsed conversations will also be deleted. Do
you wish to continue?
Don't ask me this again.
Yes No . If you space bar that box and check the box that states Don't
show me this message again , you won't get that prompt anymore but, if you
do that I don't know how to get that prompt back again if you wanted it!
Hope this helps. Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] O E delete and collapsed messages

Hi Kimsan,

Click on the link below to download the Jaws version you want.

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J11.0.756-64bit.exe

Don't run this yet but, save the download somewhere on your harddrive and
once you have it saved, run the program from there. Once you start the
process you will be given the choices of modify, repair, or remove. Tab to
repair and press enter. If another repair option pops up, press enter
on that option also, then just follow the prompts to the finish. Hope this
helps. Take care.

Hi Rick:
Yes, I have jaws 11 for the 64 bit version with the latest build, 11.756.
I can't do a jaws repair without the DVD right? I can't figure out how to
fix it for the life of me, I've looked everywhere.

Hi,

Since nobody can't answer my question that I posted twice I was wondering
how do I perform a jaws repair with jaws 11?

Just to review, I previously asked how come after logging into windows and
accessing the system tray jaws says unselected and nothing functions
correctly.

The only way I can get it to work is by turning off jaws and
then turning it back on.

Hi Kimsan,

Yes, uninstall Jaws11 and run Jaws10. If you have restarted your computer,
the computer probably restarted running Jaws11. Once you are sure that
Jaws10 is running, then try doing the repair on Jaws11.

Don't run this yet but, save the download somewhere on your harddrive and
once you have it saved, run the program from there. Once you start the

[JAWS-Users] Windows 7 Save As Dialog not Reporting Folder

2010-01-02 Thread Donald Marang
I have noticed that when in a Save As dialog box, such as when saving a file in
Internet Explorer, JAWS will not announce other items in the current folder or
correctly report which folder is currently selected. Perhaps I have screwed up
something, but JAWS seems lost!

When the Save As dialog appears, the focus is placed in the filename control.
I normally press Shift + Tab twice to hear what other files and folders are in
the currently selected directory. Pressing Backspace here will go up a level
and I make sure I am in the desired folder before saving the new file. If I am
still confused about which folder I am in, I can press Shift + Tab once more to
get to a tree view with the current folder selected.

My current Windows 7 and JAWS 10 and 11 will not work in this manner.
Occasionally, when on the folder control, JAWS will announce the files and
folders within that folder, but most of the time, I can not get it to announce
anything! Even worse, when on the tree view, It will just announce the name of
the hard drive even though the correct folder has been selected!

Does anybody have the same problem? Does anybody know how to make JAWS
announce these things correctly?

Mike: I have now uninstalled 11. I will reinstall it now and after
reinstalling 11 I should hear something about repair?

Hi Kimsan,

Yes, uninstall Jaws11 and run Jaws10. If you have restarted your computer,
the computer probably restarted running Jaws11. Once you are sure that
Jaws10 is running, then try doing the repair on Jaws11.

Hi Kimsan,

I forgot to add that if Jaws asks' if you want to uninstall shared

Hi Kimsan,

That's how I did it this morning. While running /using Jaws10 I ran the
repair on Jaws11.

Mike:
Ok, I have jaws 10 installed, so now run the jaws file you sent me and look
for repair?

Hi Kimsan,

Do you have another version of Jaws that you can run instead of Jaws 11?
What I mean is Close Jaws 11 and open Jaws 10 for example, then run the
Jaws11 repair. I know that a Jaws11 repair can be done in XP because I did
it this morning with Jaws 10 running but, not having knowledge of other
operating systems I can't comment. Also, running a repair or another
install on the same machine will not count as another installation. Take
care.
Mike

Mike:
That did not work. I downloaded and saved it. When clicking on run it said
it could not continue the process because there is another version running
and could not continue until I removed the current version of jaws that I
have, which is the same you sent me. There was no options for repair or
anything like that.
