Mike, Both are American codes. ANSI is the character code used on early Windows-based computers. ASCII predates this. ANSI has 256 characters, and is the code that can be read by JAWS. ASCII is not JAWS read. . ASCII basically has 128 characters, though more were added later (high ASCII characters). This was the result: OnMouseOvers Web page authors use OnMouseOvers to display text or images when a visitor moves the mouse pointer over a particular part of the page. The Freedom Scientific Product Overview sample page provides an example of a way in which OnMouseOvers are often used. On this page, when a user moves the mouse pointer over one of the product names, which are actually graphic links, the page displays a brief summary of the product. When the user clicks the graphic, the page takes them to the Freedom Scientific Web site to provide additional resources. NOTE: Two different things happen here depending on whether you simply move the mouse cursor over the graphic or actually activate the link. JAWS says, OnMouseOver when you move to an element with an OnMouseOver. OnMouseOver is an attribute that Web page authors add to HTML elements to enable OnMouseOver functionality. Open the Freedom Scientific Product Overview sample page. Read through the page first. It is relatively short. Notice that after the first heading, there are four OnMouseOver links which JAWS identifies. Continue reading and you will hear a brief bit of text that begins This page is designed to demonstrate the use of the OnMouseOver attribute. When a mouse user moves the pointer over the image links ... Go ahead and read through this text. When you activate an OnMouseOver in the next series of steps, this text will change on the screen. Activating an OnMouseOver with JAWS actually moves the mouse cursor over the graphic for you. You do this by pressing INSERT+CTRL+ENTER when you hear JAWS announce OnMouseOver links. To see how JAWS interacts with OnMouseOvers on Web pages, do the following: Go to the Freedom Scientific Product Overview sample page and press DOWN ARROW until you move to the one of the graphic links with an OnMouseOver. Press INSERT+CTRL+ENTER to activate the OnMouseOver for that link. JAWS announces that the page has changed at a certain line. On the screen, the brief descriptive text that summarized how to use the page with a mouse is replaced by text that describes the product. Press J, type the line number JAWS spoke, and press ENTER. JAWS moves you directly to the place on the page where the new text is displayed. Using the Jump To Line command (J) in this manner allows you to read new information that appears on the page when you activate an OnMouseOver. Take a moment to read through the new text. Press SHIFT+J to move back to the graphic link. Holding down SHIFT when using the Jump To Line command moves you back to your previous location on the page. Press ENTER to activate the link. This takes you to the Freedom Scientific Web site. You can press BACKSPACE to return to the previous page. Try moving to the other OnMouseOver links and following these same steps for more practice. JAWS Tip: Notice how pressing ENTER and pressing INSERT+CTRL+ENTER can produce very different results with some Web page elements. Pressing INSERT+CTRL+ENTER simulates the effect of moving the mouse pointer over the element, while pressing ENTER simulates the effect of clicking the element. If I do a System Restore, functionality is returned to the Teac card-reader. I've replicated this twice. Second, I'm glad I saw this. If you run IFW for the first time, you have a countdown timer that allows you twenty seconds to click on either the buy or purchase button. If you don't click on it, your copy runs in trial mode which means you can't restore it after the thirty day period runs out, if I caught the blurb correctly. I'm not sure why they've implemented that feature with the countdown timer, that reminds me of trying to uninstall some anti-virus program and you had thirty seconds to activate their uninstall button. What a pain in the tushy. Anyway, any ideas on why IFW wants to do dastardly things to my internal usb/card-reader? I know that the timer thing has been around since I first got the program over 5 years ago. Unfortunately as to 2.80 I have it although not installed it at this point so can't comment on that version. If you do find out let the list know. There is a gentleman named David F IE not me who works for terabyte tech support who is quite good at his job. I have been asked if that was me and unfortunately for me it is not. I wish I did know the program as well as he does but then you folks wouldn't have this list for obvious reasons. Also, I got a message that the system hardware Id on my hard drive didn't match that registered on my system. I assume that is because I had to replace the old hard drive three years ago. It offered to change it for me, but I declined the offer because I didn't know if it would hose my installation. Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws saying you replied on...in Outlook 2007
Hello Stephanie, I am at a system with Outlook 2010 on it right now but I am quite sure the following should also work for Outlook 2007. The steps shown below are for JAWS 14 and Outlook 2010. Let me know if you follow these steps and have different options with Outlook 2007. I think you should still have Screen Messages as an item to check or uncheck in the list but I am not where I can check in Outlook 2007 specifically. 1. After using JAWS key with the number 6 type Speech Verbosity (without the quotes) into the search box. 2. Use down arrow key and you should hear verbosity level followed by the level currently being used. You use spacebar to change between the three levels. Each level is somewhat customizable. The beginner level is probably set if you haven't changed it in the past. Leave the beginner level set if that is the level you want to continue using. 3. Use down arrow key again to the Configure Verbosity levels choice and press enter key. 4. The Configure verbosity levels branch will come into focus and you can use right arrow key to open it. 5. Use down arrow key to the level you are changing. If you are changing the beginner level then when you hear beginner dot dot dot press spacebar. A list of twenty-one items should appear. 6. Use down arrow key until you find the Screen Message item or press S to move there more quickly. 7. Use spacebar to uncheck the item if it is checked. 8. Tab to OK and use spacebar. 9 Tab to Apply and use spacebar. 10. Tab to OK and use spacebar. Take care. Open configuration manager using JAWS key with 6. 2. Type in Configure verbosity and use up and down arrow keys to the speech verbosity choice and then press enter key. 3. Use right arrow key to open the Configure Verbosity Level. 4. Use down arrow key to the verbosity level to be changed. Press spacebar on the choice. 5. I did it. When I went to my calendar, nothing was being said, so I changed it back. Thanks for your help though. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] distance is 2 case 1
I'm wondering if the format that the item your cutting is in, is triggering something in transition to (I think you said) excel when you paste it. two maybe's here: 1. you can look at your control panel, (and wherever regional settings are)and see if there might be a layout that would make a difference, mine is all in American English and I haven't run into this on win 7, I think I did a long time back in win ME and there were two factors one being this, how my numeric's were set to display and item 2 below. 2. you might try setting the numeric data value of the column your pasting into to dollars (or pounds sterling in your case I think) so that it knows that even if it looks funky its money not distances or formula's. control key and space bar then apps key and f for format cells, (alternative is control key and the 1 on the numbers row) and then select a category, sometimes just locking it as text in here can make things work better. and yes, I did see where you said it was mis copying it in jaws, this is why I put the regional settings notes first, smile. really do hope this helps, inthane -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Chris Hill Sent: Saturday, March 02, 2013 7:22 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] distance is 2 case 1 That's the trouble, most of my cut/paste seems to involve financial stuff, so I can't be dure. Sometimes I'll go into k1000 or a webpage or whatever, and most carefully select something like the amount of a bill so I can go paste it into excel or quicken or whatever. Sometimes I get the amount, other times I get the message of distance is 2. I just got this and tried the insert-space then c to see what Jaws claims is in the clipboard and it said distance is 2 case 1. Am I the only one getting this? Has anyone else reported it? I'm tempted to do so, but I don't know if I can make it happen on demand. The really weird thing this time was that when I pasted the first time I got my amount, and the second time I pasted I got this. It is like something aka Jaws is playing with the clipboard contents at some point. I suspect Jaws, because this particular frustration has yet to happen with NVDA or Window-eyes.
