Mike, what happens, or what is the up side to not using JAWS from the System Tray? That is what I have done for over ten years. JAWS still started at the log on screen and after start up. However, once the computer had booted up, the ALT + Tab function did not work, and I could not alt tab from open program to program. I had to use the Windows key + D to get to the desk top, and sometimes I would be on the desktop and not know it. Only by pressing the first letter of the name of one of my shortcuts did I realize that I was on the desktop. I can tell you, running JAWS from the system tray is not for me. Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Word 2010
Hi Steven, Try the following: When creating a new Normal template you should first make a backup of your normal.dotm template. These steps are for Word 2013 but , they should work for 2010 as well.there are some steps to follow 1. Make sure you can see hidden folders and files on your PC. I will asume you know how to do that. 2. Close Word. 3. Go to C: \ Users \ Username \ App data \ Roming \ Microsoft \ Templates. Arrow down to Normal.dotm and rename it to something like OldNormal.dotm. Note that if you simply delete this file, Word will automatically create a new Normal.dotm template when you open Word. 4. Open Word. 5. Start a new blank document however you do that. 6. Make any changes you want to anything. That includes page number styles, font, etc. 7. Unless you want it, delete any visible text you may have typed as you set up the things you want files to be based on. 8. Go to the File menu and choose Save As. 9. Not sure what you'll see, but you may only see a list of folders to choose from, etc. Ignore that and tab to the Browse button. Press enter. 10. Tab to the File Type combo box and arrow down until you hear the file type called Word Macro-Enabled template (*.dotm). That's what you want. 11. In the filename box, type Normal and press enter. 12. You have now saved a new Normal template that will be used for every new document. Note that if you mess up or panic or want to revert to your old file, just go back into the Templates folder and rename your OldNormal.dotm back to Normal.dotm. Or, just delete the Normal.dotm file you have and let Word rebuild one from its default settings. For those who want to know wen their templates get changed, you can also have Word tell you when changes are made and it will ask you if you want to save changes to the template. That's typically if you create macros, etc. That setting is under the Save options Take care. [JAWS-Users] Another apology!
I just recieved a message off-line telling me that I should not have just posted about the future of JAWS. I am Very busy. I don't get to these e-mails for three days sometimes. I start at the earliest messages which might be from three days ago and work forward to the most recent messages. My reply about this subject was to messages that were left on Monday. I didn't realize that you had put an end to that thread, because I had not read messages after Monday yet. I want to be very helpful and participate, but I just do not get to this every day. Please forgive me. My wife would be yelling at me if I got on here every night after work and read all of these messages LOL. I am sorry I replied to that thread after we were told not to do so anymore. Take care all. Please don't remove me, because I will only respond to the latest messages. Hi LeDon. If you let Jaws run from the systemtray, than you'll not be able to alt+tab to the Jaws window, but instead you'll be able to use Insert+j to goto the Jaws context menu, where you find all the same in a treeview instead as menu's. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws menu
LeDon, Once you have set JAWS to run from the system tray, you just need to go back into the Start Up Wizard and uncheck the box to take it out. The problem you will find, is if you do not have a shortcut on your desktop, then you will not be able to Alt Tab around to find the program window. If you did have the desktop shortcut, you could then use Windows + D or M to take you to the desktop, then press the letter J to find the JAWS icon, and press enter on it to open a set of links to each menu. Then you can select the Help menu and open the Start Up Wizard to disable JAWS from running from the system tray. Without the desktopshortcut, then you should be able to access the JAWS menus from the system tray itself, but I am not sure how to do this. It would be easy enough to add the sshortcut as a just in case, and if you like the way it works, then you could delete it at anytime. 9. In the filename box, type, Normal. 10. Tab to the File Type combo box and arrow down until you hear the file type called Word Macro-Enabled template (*.dotm). That's what you want. 11. You can tab to the, Save button, press enter or, just press, Alt + S, then press, Alt + F4, to close the document the new Normal.dotm should be saved wherever your default save to is located, which is usually the Documents folder. Now find the newly created file put it into the Templates folder located here: C: \ Users \ Username \ App data \ Roming \ Microsoft \ Templates. Alan, SFC /Scannow will detect and fix most corrupted windows files, but depending on just how corupted your operating system is, it can also report at the end of the scan that there were corupted files detected that could not be repaired, and that you should try using a recovery method or just reinstall Windows. Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Word 2010
Hello Steven, To change the default location for user templates do the following: 1. Press Alt+F. 2. Open Word options. In Word 2013 Alt+T is used so I think it is the same for 2010. 3. Arrow down the list of categories to Advanced or press A until you get there. 4. Use shift with tab several times and you will find the File Location button. Press spacebar on it. 5. In the list of the types of files arrow down to user templates if you want to change location for those templates. 6. Tab to the Modify button and use spacebar. 7. Use the tree and list views to browse to where you want to have these types of files saved to automatically. 8. Use OK or whatever the accepting button is until you are out of the dialog boxes. When you're in the message field, just go over to your documents and copy the document you want to attach, then paste it to the email. You are not going to see it in the message field, so you need to shift tab to see your attachments. Right arrow to read if it's there. Re: [JAWS-Users] looking for a program to find and getrid ofWindows errors
You have to monitor this scan pretty closely. The scan results appear on the screen when it finishes, and I do not know if there is an option to save it or not. I have taken a screen shot of the results to be able to refer back to them. If you are in another window when the scan finishes, you will not see the results by alt tabbing around to them. The seem to disappear if this is attempted. It is not a good utility for doing another task while it is running, but the results are good. Unless you want it, delete any visible text you may have typed as you set up the things you want files to be based on. 8. Go to the File menu and choose Save As. Re: [JAWS-Users] looking for a program to find and get ridof Windowserrors
Jorge, Two things. First, you have the syntax for the scannow command incorrectly typed. Second, you need to run that from an elevated command prompt in Windows 7. It is SFC space forward-slash scannow written in quotes below as: sfc /scannow which you need to put in an elevated command prompt in Windows 7 without the quotes. Here is an article that will explain how to get the elevated command prompt http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/a/elevated-command-prompt-windows-7.htm Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. It should take less than an hour for the scan to run, and at the end, the scanner will report the system's status to you. It will say that: 1. There were no corruptions found, 2. [JAWS-Users] outlook makes messag box read only
Hello list I do not know if this is a jfw problemk so forgive if it is not. A friend has jfw 12 and win 7 and outlook 2007 on his pc. All of a sudden when he wants to compose a new message he can type in the to field and in the subject field but when he tries to type the body of the message jfw says read only. Also, when he wants to read an email and he uses the arrow keys he just hears blank, blank If he presses jaws key-b the screen is read. We looked all over in the outlook settings but I can not find any setting whhich would correct these behaviours. I do not use outlook, so I can't think of a solution. We even checked the screen resolution but it seems to be ok. Can anyone suggest a solution? Call: 1-408-752-8052 This phone number replace the 800 number for Tell Me. When your call is answered say, Sports, then say, Baseball, then the name of the team you want if you're looking for a particular teams score. This message was sent using Windows7 J16. I figured I better throw that in since I'm walking that fine line! LOL hahaha hahaha LOL Well, maybe it's not so funny! Take care.
