Re: [JAWS-Users] How to download kindle book on PC's hard driveusingJAWS
A bit more info. Using the NVDA screenreader, you can display books as a list in the Kindle for PC app. They will be in a table, and you will need to tab around a bit to find them. When you highlight a book, press alt for the file menu. That's where the download option is. Note that you also have to choose the PC app as your Send to source in the Kindle store. Good luck. -Original Message- From: Jean Menzies Sent: Monday, March 14, 2016 12:46 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] How to download kindle book on PC's hard driveusingJAWS Hello Prateek I'm sorry if I can't be very specific with this. Hi Brian I tried all of that but word would not recognize the Greek, after some lengthy research on the internet and a call to Microsoft accessibility it turns out that the file I have to run is proofing tools_el-gr_86.exe. It does work now however it's not the greatest spell check. I think I'm going to invest in getting a whole language pack I think it's 24 bucks, and that isn't to bad. The language pack I have for 2010 works much better then this free tool they offer. [JAWS-Users] a link that I got from a post from a member on this list
Thanks Mike Re: [JAWS-Users] a link I got from a post from a member on this list Hi Anna, Here's the article: If you don't want Windows 10, do this! By Martin Brinkmann on 2016-03-13T08:15:33+0100 in Windows - Last Update: 2016-03-13T11:04:37+0100 66 Reports are coming in by users from around the world on sites like Reddit that machines running Windows 7 or Windows 8 have been updated -- once again -- to Windows 10 automatically. They report that the update was automated, and that they did not receive any prompt or option to stop the process once it was in motion. Some noticed that their machines were upgraded to the new operating system after coming back from lunch or checking their computer in the morning after leaving it turned on for the night. This is not the first time that this happened to some users running Windows 7 or 8 on their machines. Users were experiencing the same thing in October 2015 and Microsoft apologized later on stating that the enforcement was not intended to be delivered automatically. But the issue did not keep Microsoft from pushing Windows 10 related updates to machines running previous versions of Windows, and the company stated openly that it is "going to keep at it" even though it may be discomforting to some customers. In February 2016 then it made Windows 10 a recommended update on Windows 7 and Windows 8. If you don't want Windows 10, do this The following steps are recommended to anyone who does not want to upgrade computer systems running Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10. Step 1: Disable automatic updates Automatic updates are convenient, as Windows will download and install critical system updates automatically. The main issue with the setting is that you don't get any say in the matter and no option to research updates before they are installed. Windows updates may have adverse effects on a system. We have seen in the past that they may cause all kinds of issues on a system including preventing it to boot or upgrading it to Windows 10. So, instead of having the system set to install updates automatically, you configure it to inform you about new updates so that you can decide whether to install them or not. Here is how that is done (the screenshots have been taken on a Windows 7 machine, but the methodology is the same on Windows 8). Step 1: Tap on the Windows-key, type Windows Update, and hit enter. windows update Step 2: Click on "change settings" when the Windows Update Control Panel opens up. windows update change settings Step 3: Locate the "important updates" menu on the page that opens and click on it. Switch from "install updates automatically" to "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". Click on ok afterwards. windows manual updates Windows will notify you about updates but won't download or install them automatically anymore. This requires that you go through the list of updates manually whenever they are presented to you to select those you want installed. You can use the built-in hide functionality to block the installation of updates you don't want installed on your machine. Re: [JAWS-Users] a link I got from a post from a member on this list
Hi Anna, Here's the article: If you don't want Windows 10, do this! Additionally, you may want to do the following to improve the blocking further. list of 2 items 1. Set the preferences DisableOSUpgrade and DisableGWX in the Registry to block the upgrade to Windows 10. Click on the link for instructions on how to do that. 2. Install the excellent GWX Control Panel application which has been designed to block Windows 10 on machines running Windows 7 or 8. list end Summary Article Name If you don't want Windows 10, do this Description Microsoft pushes Windows 10 as an upgrade on machines running Windows 7 or 8. [JAWS-Users] language packs for office 2013
So on Friday I purchased my office 2013. I tried to go to the office.com to get the free add ons for proofing tools in another language but no luck. Any ideas how maybe I could do it through the settings in Microsoft word? I did find my old cd for 2010 and a long with that a thumb drive of an old 2010 language pack. Even though this is office 2013 would I be able to install the 2010 language pack? p.s. How funny is it that I got kicked off Jim's list and a week later I found the cd for office 2010. Oh well everything happends for a reason. Second p.s. thank you to all for your great help and support. [JAWS-Users] How to download kindle book on PC's hard drive using JAWS
Hello gang. How do I get a purchased kindle book to actually download on my computer's hard drive?? , Using Win8.1, Latest JFW17. I installed and logged on to Amazon's 'Kindle for PC' program on my Win8.1 windows computer. I'm successfully logged on to my amazon account each time I open the "kindle for PC' program. I bought a kindle book using my web browser at amazon.com and clicked the 'deliver to kindle for PC' button. ON my computer opening the 'kindle for PC' program, I can see the purchased book listed there. I just can't find it on my PC's hard drive which suggests that the 'kindle for PC' program on my computer is accessing the book and its contents from the cloud and not my PC's hard drive. I can open and read the book within the 'kindle for PC' program. I however need it on my PC's hard drive so I can use AN ACCESSIBLE LEGAL SOFTWARE CALED the CALLED 'CODEX' TO CONVERT THE KNIDLE FORMAT TO ANOTHER TO ALLOW me to read it on my BookSense Xt.I can also see that installing the 'kindle for PC' and logging on to my amazon account through this program on my computer put the kind le book 'Treasure Island' for free on my PC's hard drive and I'm able to locate the files for this kindle book on the hard drive. I can also see Treasure Island right below the book I purchased in the list in the kindle for PC program. Just can't find the purchased book anywhere on the hard drive despite doing a search. Re: [JAWS-Users] incoming email sound help?
Zoe, Mike, and anyone else, as I understand that feature for the top and bottom edge indicator is a feature that is hard coded in the particular program being used. so, the problem is not that JAWS's settings don't work for this feature it's that the manufacturer of the program disabled this feature from being changed even though JAWS's feature is set to silent. I bet if this setting in JAWS is set to notify with sound, two indicators would be heard. there is a tech support document explaining this.
