I don’t' get that beep and am able to down-arrow. For me at least, Jaws
doesn’t announce the names of contacts, but they are being cycled through. I

just isn't announcing the changes. 
Either way though, it is annoying and frustrating as I often now have to use

Probably Jaws as I use this keystroke with Excel 2013 all the time. Do you have 
other applications opened that might be interfering with the  display? 
Sometimes I have to hit windowsKey+insert+f4 to restart jaws so it reads things 
correctly.

What's New in JAWS 18 - Part One

New Features Added in JAWS 18

The following features are new to JAWS 18. For more information and complete 
demonstrations, go to the FSCast web page  and listen to episodes 131 and 132.

Migrate Settings from Prior Versions of JAWS

We have reintroduced the ability for users to merge all user customized 
settings from the prior version of JAWS into the latest version. This includes 
any application and default settings, scripts, dictionary entries, graphics 
labels, PlaceMarkers, flexible web rules, personalized web settings including 
custom labels, speech and sounds schemes, and voice profiles. When JAWS 18 
first starts after an install and it detects that there are custom user 
settings for JAWS 17 available, you will be asked if you want to migrate these 
settings to the current version of JAWS. Choose Yes to migrate your settings 
from JAWS 17, or choose No to start with the default settings in JAWS 18 and 
launch the Startup Wizard.

Once the settings have been migrated, a dialog box opens where you can 
configure the JAWS startup options. This dialog box contains the same options 
found in the Start JAWS Options dialog box, which is accessed from the JAWS 
window by opening the Options menu, Selecting Options, and then choosing the 
Automatically Start JAWS button. Once you have confirmed how you want JAWS to 
start, choose OK to save and close the dialog box.

NOTE: Due to significant changes to the settings file structure prior to JAWS 
17, custom user settings can not be migrated from versions of JAWS older than 
version 17.

Completely New Import and Export for JAWS Customized User Settings

JAWS 18 now enables you to quickly and conveniently export all of your JAWS 
user settings including application and default settings, custom scripts, 
dictionary entries, graphics labels, PlaceMarkers, flexible web rules, 
personalized web settings including custom labels, speech and sounds schemes, 
and voice profiles to a single backup file which can be stored or shared with 
other JAWS users.
The JAWS settings backup files are saved with an SBAK extension. This backup

these settings will be used by that copy of JAWS.

To export settings to an SBAK file, open the Utilities menu located in the JAWS 
application window, open the Import/Export menu, and select Export Settings.
The Export Settings wizard opens and guides you through exporting your 
settings. During this process, you can choose to export all user settings, or 
select specific settings to export. By default, the SBAK file is saved to the 
Desktop using the name JAWSSettingsBackup (where Version Number 
is the JAWS version currently running when using the

When I am in the TO: field, I type the first letter of a name.  With
previous versions of JAWS, the first name beginning with that first letter
in my autocomplete list would be spoken.  If I was to hit the down-arrow
key, the next name in the list would be spoken.  I could down-arrow through
the list until I found the name I wanted.  When I hit the tab key, the name
would be inserted in to the TO: field and I could begin typing the next
to-name and repeat the process for this second name.  None of this is
working with the new release of JAWS.  After I have typed that first letter
and hit the down-arrow key, I hear a beep; indicating that I can't
down-arrow through the list.  So, it isn't that JAWS just isn't announcing
it.

Keep in mind, too, that at least in Outlook 2010, the contacts order changes 
depending on how often or recently you've contacted this or that person. One 
thought, in case it hasn't already been mentioned. If you think you know the 
place of your addressee in the contacts list, press enter when you get to it. 
Then tab into the next field and shift-tab back to the "To" or "cc" line. I 
believe your educated guess will be confirmed or rejected. 
I love the humor in your message, Reed. Time was when America had all the 
advantages over Canada when it came to visually impaired people. I know because 
I spent some time at McGill. Canada has come a long way since then.

Since I last wrote, I shut down my computer, went outside and washed my very 
muddy tandem bike, came back and booted up, went into Outlook and tried to send 
a new e-mail.  It is now functioning just as you describe below which is 
useless to me.  I don't know, for example,  how far down the "T" entries Trump 
sits.  So, I can't send him a note.  Oh well, he probably doesn't like blind

I don't' get that beep and am able to down-arrow. For me at least, Jaws doesn't 
announce the names of contacts, but they are being cycled through. I email a 
lot of the same people for my business and have learned the pattern of how they 
come up when typing out their names. The letter M and then arrow down for Maria 
X, Y or Z for example. This still occurs. Again though, Jaws just isn't 
announcing the changes. 
Either way though, it is annoying and frustrating as I often now have to use 
the to or CC or BCC buttons to go into my address book when I want to insert 
multiple emails or if there is a long list of names with the same starting 
sequence of letters.

Hi david,
I followed your directions and it took me to the same place that I have gone
to before. There are no buttons on that web site to update Office 2010 as I
could see. Here is what it said on that page about it. 
Windows 10 is a service, which means automatic updates are turned on by
default and your PC always has the latest and best features.

I do have it turned on under update and security to have all my products
updated automatically.

I tried doing these steps on my Office 2010 in ms word. These steps did not
work. I just wanted to make sure I have been getting all the updates for my
Office 2010. I am sure I have it turned on in update and security to update
all programs.

New Features Added in JAWS 18

The following features are new to JAWS 18. For more information and complete 
demonstrations, go to the FSCast web page  and listen to episodes 131 and 
132.

Migrate Settings from Prior Versions of JAWS

We have reintroduced the ability for users to merge all user customized 
settings from the prior version of JAWS into the latest version. This 
includes any application and default settings, scripts, dictionary entries, 
graphics labels, PlaceMarkers, flexible web rules, personalized web settings 
including custom labels, speech and sounds schemes, and voice profiles. When 
JAWS 18 first starts after an install and it detects that there are custom 
user settings for JAWS 17 available, you will be asked if you want to 
migrate these settings to the current version of JAWS. Choose Yes to migrate 
your settings from JAWS 17, or choose No to start with the default settings 
in JAWS 18 and launch the Startup Wizard.

Once the settings have been migrated, a dialog box opens where you can 
configure the JAWS startup options. This dialog box contains the same 
options found in the Start JAWS Options dialog box, which is accessed from 
the JAWS window by opening the Options menu, Selecting Options, and then 
choosing the Automatically Start JAWS button. Once you have confirmed how 
you want JAWS to start, choose OK to save and close the dialog box.

NOTE: Due to significant changes to the settings file structure prior to 
JAWS 17, custom user settings can not be migrated from versions of JAWS 
older than version 17.

Completely New Import and Export for JAWS Customized User Settings

JAWS 18 now enables you to quickly and conveniently export all of your JAWS

schemes, and voice profiles to a single backup file which can be stored or 
shared with other JAWS users.

updates or close.
Haven't updated yet, but went through the process to close out the prompt
since it was messing with my ability to have Jaws read the status line.

2. Go to File > Help > Check for Updates.
3. Choose Install Updates or Check for Updates. If neither option is

Hi,

 

I am just migrating from outlook 2007 to outlook 2017 due to company 
requirements.

 

I am using a focus 40 blue display with jaws 18.

When I am in the message list, the braille display does not show anything even 
though I have gone to the outlook settings (jaws key +f2 / customize outlook 
list) and made sure that the from, subject and message items are all set to be 
brailled.

 

Any suggestions on how to make this work better would be appreciated.

Yes it is easy to set up different e-mails. I have 12. No special 
scritps or anything needed. Just google "download thunderbird and 
download the program.
After install you just use alt + T then arrow to accounts. Then enter 
your e-mail address and password. thats it for most mail providers like 
g-mail.

JAWS, the autocomplete function when creating a new message in Outlook 2016
does not work.  I have just reported this on the phone to JAWS tech support.

New Features Added in JAWS 18

The following features are new to JAWS 18. For more information and complete

Migrate Settings from Prior Versions of JAWS

We have reintroduced the ability for users to merge all user customized 
settings from the prior version of JAWS into the latest version. This 
includes
any application and default settings, scripts, dictionary entries, graphics 
labels, PlaceMarkers, flexible web rules, personalized web settings 
including
custom labels, speech and sounds schemes, and voice profiles. When JAWS 18 
first starts after an install and it detects that there are custom user 
settings
for JAWS 17 available, you will be asked if you want to migrate these 
settings to the current version of JAWS. Choose Yes to migrate your settings 
from
JAWS 17, or choose No to start with the default settings in JAWS 18 and 
launch the Startup Wizard.

Once the settings have been migrated, a dialog box opens where you can 
configure the JAWS startup options. This dialog box contains the same 
options found
in the Start JAWS Options dialog box, which is accessed from the JAWS window 
by opening the Options menu, Selecting Options, and then choosing the 
Automatically
Start JAWS button. Once you have confirmed how you want JAWS to start, 
choose OK to save and close the dialog box.

NOTE: Due to significant changes to the settings file structure prior to 
JAWS 17, custom user settings can not be migrated from versions of JAWS 
older
than version 17.

Completely New Import and Export for JAWS Customized User Settings

JAWS 18 now enables you to quickly and conveniently export all of your JAWS 
user settings including application and default settings, custom scripts,

Once the export is complete, the SBAK file containing your settings can be
shared with other JAWS users through email or a file sharing service such as 
Dropbox, or stored on a USB flash drive.

To import JAWS settings from an SBAK file, open the Utilities menu located 
in the JAWS application window, open the Import/Export menu, and select 
Import
Settings. The Import User Settings wizard opens and guides you through 
importing the settings. By default, the import will merge the settings from 
the
backup file with existing user settings and if a setting in the user folder 
conflicts with a setting from the backup file, it will be replaced by the 
setting
from the backup. However, you can also choose to simply replace all current 
settings in the user folder with the contents of the backup or, when merging
and there is a settings conflict, you can choose to keep the current 
setting.

During the settings import, the current settings in your user folder are 
automatically backed up. If you find that the settings that were imported 
from
the SBAK file are not working

Hey Fernando. Thanks for writing back.

I did some research after writing that message, and, indeed, there is just
no way to run Dos Box and use a Windows screen-reader. Apparently even the
DOS ones have problems as the Dos Box environment is really not designed for
such programmes as screen-readers. The real issue is using the qbasic
programme that these games  need -- I have tried all compatibility settings
and it just will not run under any circumstance; as you say it is a 16-bit
application. Even setting to Windows 95 compatibility does not work. I did
find a 64-bit QB programme, but it's third-party and I don't know what
results will be; plus the games have their own way of calling the basic
interpreter which I would not be able to subvert easily, I think. Maybe it's
worthwhile enough for me to learn how to create a virtual machine.

That said .. anyone got some really old copy of JAWS lying around? Haha

An important note for everyone (well, two, really):
* Edge doesn't have a concept of traditional menu bar as in IE and Firefox.
The user interface is like that of Chrome.
* There are several tutorials about Edge, including one produced by David
Moore and many others.
Good luck (for members of a certain Windows 10 related list, expect a post
from me today).

The following is a list of improvements made between the JAWS 18 July 2017

Microsoft Edge Support (must be enabled in Settings Center)

This update introduces support for Edge, the latest web browser from
Microsoft included in Windows 10. To use JAWS with Edge, you must be running
the Windows
10 Creators update (version 1703) or later. While there are still several
JAWS features that are not available in Edge such as selecting and copying
using the Virtual Cursor, PlaceMarkers, Smart Navigation, Flexible Web, and
domain-specific settings, we have made the overall experience of navigating
pages in Edge using both speech and braille as similar as possible to
working in Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox. As we continue to work
with Microsoft to improve the Edge experience, future JAWS updates will
include greater functionality. Edge support is also available in the new
JAWS 2018.

Edge support is turned off by default in JAWS 18. This is because support
for Microsoft Edge depends on some emerging technologies, which we continue
to fine-tune in close collaboration with Microsoft. You can turn on Edge
support through Settings Center by doing the following:

can go back into Settings Center as described above and disable it. If you
do this, please let our Tech Support team know so the issue can be
investigated.

The Virtual Cursor is used to read pages in Edge just like in other
browsers. You can use the standard reading commands as well as most of the
Navigation Quick Keys to navigate through pages. Currently, there are a few
Navigation Quick Keys that are not yet supported in Edge, however the most
used commands; moving by headings, paragraphs, forms, tables, lists,
graphics, and regions, are available. More Navigation Quick Keys will be
supported in future updates.

By default, JAWS uses Semi-auto Forms Mode in Edge, which turns on Forms
Mode automatically only when you move to a form control using TAB or
SHIFT+TAB.
Due to the way Edge displays pages, Auto Forms Mode is not available as it
is possible to have multiple controls on a single line. You will need to
press ENTER to turn on Forms Mode if you use the ARROW keys to move to form
fields.

Other familiar JAWS features that are currently supported include:

until you cycle back around to the content area. Alternatively, Edge offers
many of the same shortcut keys found in other browsers such as CTRL+T to
open a new tab, CTRL+H for History, CTRL+I for Favorites, CTRL+J for
Downloads, and so on.

arriving there or not I’m actually using Windows 10 mail application and this 
application cannot load my all Hotmail account messages I want to know if there 
is bug or what if you guys have any better solution rather than Windows 10 mail 
 application do let me know your help would be highly appreciated

Hello their,

Thanks for your reply, I’ve never used thunderbird so it would great if you 
could guide me a bit.
1. Would I able to configure 2 different mail id on it ? I have one gmail and 
one Hotmail.
2. 2. Do I need any jaws scripts for it ?
3. 3. From where I can get thunderbird and its tatorials with jaws ?
