This is what I found for Windows 10. But as I said, I prefer the Windows-tab command because alt-tab does not seem to cycle through all programs. Re: [JAWS-Users] task bar
Hm. I just googled and google said: Windows 7 keyboard shortcut keys General keyboard shortcuts Alt+Tab Switch between open items Ctrl+Alt+Tab Use the arrow keys to switch between open items Windows logo key +Tab Cycle through programs on the taskbar by using Aero Flip 3-D As I said, it's been several years now since I've used Windows 7, so I googled again and found: HOW TO USE FLIP AND FLIP 3D IN WINDOWS 7 When you have many windows open in Windows 7, you can use the Flip and Flip 3-D features to quickly organize your applications. Flip and Flip 3-D, like Aero Peek, allow you to view what is happening in all of your open windows and shuffle them so that the one you want is on top. FLIP To use the Flip feature, hold down Alt and press Tab. Windows 7 displays a panel in the middle of the desktop showing thumbnails of each open window. Each time you press Tab, a different one of the windows is selected and its name appears at the top of the panel. When you release the Alt key, the panel hides again and the last window selected becomes the open window on your display. If you want to take your time scrolling through the open windows, hold the Ctrl key down while you press the Alt and Tab key. The thumbnail panel will open and stay that way even after you release all the keys. This allows you to use the right and left arrow keys to find the one you want. When youve highlighted the window you want to work with, press Enter to close the panel and display the selected window on the desktop. FLIP 3D To use the Flip 3D feature, hold down the Windows logo key (the key with picture of a waving flag divided into four parts) and then press the Tab key. All the open windows will cascade across your desktop in 3-D. Flip through the cascading thumbnails by continuing to press the Tab key. When the thumbnail of the window you want appears at the front of the stack, release the Windows logo key. Your windows will all lay back down with the window you want on top. As with Flip, holding the Ctrl key down while activating Flip 3D ensures that the windows remain cascaded across your desktop while you peruse them with your right and left arrow keys. When the window you want to access is at the front of the stack, you can press Enter to close the stack and display its window on top of the desktop. http://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-systems/windows-7/how-to-use-flip -and-flip-3d-in-windows-7/ HTH. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. I sent my landlord a MS word document for her to look over and edit, in preparation for a mutual signing. She has sent it back to me for printing. But, not as a Word document. She sent me a zip file within a zip file, which turns out to be something created using the Apple program Pages. After some annoying poking around in this new archive folder, I have determined that the data I am after is in an xml (apparently) file called index.xml.gz, which I then had to use Winrar to open. Now I have my stuff, but there's no formatting except for code. What the devil can I do with this thing? Can I convert it to an easily printable format? Hi. She resent it already but I'm not sure she even did anything new with the document. I have to go out now but I will check it tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll pass this info along to her. Thanks very much. I have no idea why it's double zipped. It's only three pages long. The .pages file itself is opening as a zipped folder within file explorer. Then within that the xml is in a .gz file I have to open with winrar. It's very strange, to me. I don't use Apple products and their method of dealing with files is alien to me. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of el...@comcast.net Sent: March 24, 2018 7:14 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Viewing/printing a document created in Pages on a Windows machine If what she sent is a Pages document, she could export it for you as a Word file and then send it as such. I don't think I really need to edit it anymore. However, it doesn't even seem to open properly in my web browser (either Firefox or IE, at least). Any suggestions? Is therea quick, reliable converter out there I can use? Or should I just ask her to please convert back to the original format, as apparently Pages saves by default in its own format even if it wasn't in that format to begin with. For all I know, new versions of mS word can deal with these things, but I only have Office 2010 on here. Any thoughts? Re: [JAWS-Users] task bar
I prefer using windows key-tab. After you press that, you can left and right arrow through all the open windows. Press enter on the one you want to select it. If you want to close something as you're arrowing through, press the application/menu key and arrow up to close and press enter. As I remember, this also works in Windows 7, but it's been awhile. Re: [JAWS-Users] desktop 1
The reason why you're hearing, desktop one, instead of just desktop, is because windows 10 has the ability to create secondary desktops, called virtual desktops. For fun, press control windows |D, then press insert T, you will hear, desktop 2. You can move between desktops with control windows right arrow and control windows left arrow. I haven't yet found a use for this, but I suppose if you were using the same computer for home and work, and you wanted to keep your opened programs separate, it might come in handy. You can close the virtual desktops with control Windows F4. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of Holger Fiallo Sent: March 24, 2018 10:01 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] desktop 1 Morning all I see this all the time when I close program. Re: [JAWS-Users] Say All pausing between lines
I'm not exactly getting Say All paused when I set it to Lines Without Pauses, but I'm having a similar issue since JAWS 18. In both Castilian and Latin American Spanish, Eloquence default thousand separator is the period instead of the comma. Even when Eloquence read whole numbers with thousands groups correctly, when I use Say All the period is handled like a sentence ending period, that is, when using Say All Eloquence speak the whole number before the period, makes a short pause like after a sentence and then speak the rest as it if were another number. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of Orlando Enrique Fiol Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2018 2:31 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Say All pausing between lines Hi all. I'm using the latest builds of both Jaws 2018 and Windows 10. Seemingly inexplicably, Say All has begun pausing between lines, even though I have tried it both reading by sentence and by line without pauses. It's almost as though whichever setting I choose, Say All reads with pauses. To attempt to remedy this, I performed a repair, then tried Say All using the alternate user directory; it read without pauses as I desire. I then deleted all my settings files except for my pronunciation dictionary and voice profiles, to allow Jaws to repopulate my settings directory. AftEr this, Say All again read without pauses as I desire. However, after I went through the entire settings tree, resetting everything to my preferences, the Say All reading with pauses regardless of setting returned. This forces me to ask if there is some hidden or obscure relationship between how Say All pauses and another setting that appears to have nothing to do with it. I'm inclined toward this reasoning because when I switch to the alternate user directory or delete my settings files, Say All behaves properly. Only after I configure my settings does the problem return. The question is: why? I realize that as a temporary fix, I could yet again delete my settings and this time not change any of the defaults. But then, punctuation, speech verbosity and so many other settings would not be configured to my taste. As another possibility, I will test tomorrow whether this behavior is also happening on my laptop. If it is not, I'll try copying my settings directory from my laptop to the problematic desktop. What do you all think? Has anyone ever experienced this strange Say All behavior of reading with line pauses regardless of setting? [JAWS-Users] Auslogics Boost Speed & Jaws
Howdy All, Several years ago I was using a program called Auslogics Boost Speed, version 5. After version 5 it kept getting less & less accessible, but at the time it was a great program taking care of several tasks at once like, disk cleanup, disk defrag, removing temp files... Well, now the program is up to version 10, & I was wondering if anyone is using this latest version with Jaws. I would like to know it's level of accessibility. i.e; Is there a lot of Jaws cursoring necessary... Will Jaws read the status of checkboxes?... All input will be greatly appreciated. This was once an excellent program until they found it necessary to add all that eye candy to the program! LOL Thanks much. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sennt from my iBarstool.
