I am using Panda, the free version of Panda.

In some cases to improve the accessibility, I use the OCR option of JAWS and 
then I can read the screen, and while I am using the OCR, I can use the tab 
to go from option to option.

for your review.  When i went to send the original message intending to
keep things in tact, the outbound picked it up as harmful which means it
worked, but MSE never picked it up nor what I've written below.  A bit
concerning.



I did this, and found that microsoft security essentials leaves it.

I got concerned when I knowingly saved a file as I wanted to see if it
would pick up the file.   I left it for awhile and saved it on one of my
drives.  I submitted it using I believe it was av test or a site that I
found that allowed me to see what antivirus picked this particular file
I had up.  MSE never picked it up.  Now that I'm a Jaws user, what
antivirus besides MSE would work with Jaws?

I've got Windows 7, 64 bit.  I don't think MSE is doing the trick
anymore if a file can go undetected for that long, and it never got
flagged for review.  It was a zip, with an executable in it, which i
knew was dangerous, but I save them at times to see if the thing is
working and picks them up.

Hi Mike,

I installed and activated Panda with no problem.  Now my PC is protected.

But, today when I tried to schedule a scan, I could not find the OK button. 
My daughter clicked on the OK for me, and now I have a weekly scheduled 
scan.  I did not try very hard to find the OK button, but possibly it is not 
accessible.


Originally I just setup the protection, but before today I never tried to 
scan the PC.


I believe that due to the good protection of the Panda Free Antivirus, it is 
worth checking it and deciding if it accessible enough for you or not, 
especially if you have someone that can help you once to click on the OK 
button to schedule the scan (daily, weekly or monthly).

Text settings is where to go to gew that. If you have problem, write again.
I'll go through it, then tell you, but I know it is in Text Settings, which
probably is in Configuration Manager. Otherwise, you might go into JAWS and
search for Text Settings. I don't know why, for the life of me, that speak
dollar after digits is not a default. I guess it makes sense to somebody,
especially, since the thing has that capability. I could understand if they
had not developed that yet, but for ten years, I've had to set one, if I get
a new update or something that makes me lose settings.

Hi Maria,

I am not familiar with this specific software, but I suggest to try the merge 
utility.

On the JAWS 16 try to merge the JAWS 15 settings.

Just to be on the safe side, take a Windows checkpoint prior to using the merge 
utility, so if the computer is in a worse shape after the merge, you can 
restore the computer to the previous checkpoint.

I have an older program, Bible Seeker which is not working with JAWS 16 
as it does with JAWS 15.
In 15 tabbing speaks Bible version, book, chapter, passage.
Up and down arrows speaks previous book, next book, previous chapter, etc.
In 16little is spoken with tab or arrows.
I don't know how to better explain.
If someone has the same program with the same problem, perhaps he/she 
can tell me how to let FS know of this issue between versions of JAWS.

I have directions which tell me to open the email, go to the attachment, and
press insert A, in order to read the attachment. I'm using Jaws 13 and
Windows 7. This isn't working. The only way I can read the attachment is to
go to the file menu and press N to save it, then find it in Documents, and
then read it. Can someone give me a faster way to just open the attachment
and read it?

I am looking for a JAWS friendly antivirus software. 

I read that PC Matic performed the best in detecting known and unknown viruses. 
 (Yes, PC Matic has very high false alarms, but mostly for professional 
software, and hopefully not what most of us use on a daily base.)

Does anyone here have any experience using PC Matic with JAWS, and is it JAWS 
friendly?

the System Tray of my XP computer has been showing PC Status Potentially

page , presumably to remove harmful items that have been quarantined, but
when I attempt to click on either of these options with the left mouse
button, nothing happens, and my PC status remains potentially unprotected.
Neither running a full scan nor rebooting my computer changes the status to
protected.  So how can I get MSE to change the status of my PC from
potentially unprotected to protected?  Thanks for any help.

Hello,

From my very short experience, I can tell you that you do not need to use JAWS 
cursor to perform most tasks.  I just checked the application now, and in one 
case to move from one group of buttons to the next I used the arrow down key 
and then all buttons were  accessible using the tab.

I also put the Qihoo 360 Internet Security on my system tray, and it is very 
easy to access the available options.

I download my copy from Cnet.com, but there other sites that you can download 
Qihoo 360 Internet Security from.

Sounds like a promising alternative to AVG and Avast.  Are database 
definitions updated automatically every day, and can you specify when to 
perform automatic quick or full scans? Also, is it necessary to use the JAWS

MSE has very bad reviews, and in addition it performed very poorly in viruses 
and malware protection tests.

I checked some reviews about 2014 antivirus and MSE ranked very low, and Qihoo 
360 Internet Security ranked very high.

I used MSE for several years, and I never had a virus, but because all the bad 
things that I heard about MSE, I decided not to take unnecessary risk.

It is your call to use or not use MSE.

reviews, and as much as I can tell it is a JAWS accessible.

Internet Security?

Under JAWS settings
make sure that for both images options set to include image links, set for all 
images.

Under Graphics and symbols, set to all graphics.

To go to JAWS settings 
insert+6 (number row)
use the arrow keys to go between the categories,
and the space bar to cycle between the categories options.

Donny,
Before you do anything else, see if you can get yourself a USB  keyboard.
They aren't very expensive for the basic ones.
Next, plug it in and make sure that the Jaws setting for keyboard is on
Laptop, not Desktop.
Now, if you did spill something in there as some of the other members have
indicated, tha keyboard may be the only way you can make the computer
function.
If it doesn't work, you might have shorted out some of the primary control
circuits.  Tbhat would be like holding down a key permanently  since the
contacts open when you press a key.
If that has happened, that  USB keyboard might not work.  But Donny, it is
certainly worth a try.
Been there, done that if you know what I mean.

[JAWS-Users] New Laptop, Asus

It sounds like the OmniPage OCR portion did not get installed properly.
There is a separate download and installer for this.  Download it, run the
installer , and hope it fixes your problem.

Hi Sarah,

I don't know if you have a special key to change from multimedia to normal 
function keys, but it can not hurt to try to find the key in case you have 
it on your keyboard.


Usually a key that changes the function keys mode is on the upper right of 
the keyboard.  It toggles between the two modes of the function keys.


Try to play with all the keys that you don't know what they do.  Hopefully 
you have the toggle button.

I really think that people are telling you something that doesn't apply 
on your HP computer.  Here is the info I referenced a couple days ago, 
and the link to the HP support site is below that.  You'll need somebody 
to read the screen when you go into the Bios settings to change this.

Okay, I actually found hardware and sound. You have to be in the regular 
mode of control pannel not the classic list mode. Then I found adjust 
common mobility settings but haven't found anything about fn key

reinstall it, and may be JAWS will work better.


If you still have problem with the Russian version of JAWS, try to install

Hi Mark,

I am using a 15 trial version of Norton Internet Security 2009.

I used the scanner, and I got 1 warning, for low risk cookie.

I wanted to set the scanner to skip low risk cookies, but I could not figure 
out how to do it.

It seems to me, and please correct me if I am wrong, that it is very 
difficult to work Norton Internet Security 2009, but if everything is on, 
more likely you are well protected.

 I am using Norton internet security 2009. What I do is switch to the
jaws cursor and up and down arrow through the options. For instance anti
fishing is on by default. the line says anti fishing on. If you want to turn
it off you move the jaws cursor over the on and do a left click. The on will
then turn to off. Some times when you click on an item it will open a menu
that one needs to scroll thru. You may need to switch to the PC cursor on
some items. I believe that someone who is good at scripting could write
scripts easily for this program. The only tricky part I had was arrowing
across the yes no buttons. Sometimes the yes button will disappear. The yes
shows as a blank spot. The yes is actually in the blank. I found this by
accident.

No it can not work with a 64 bit system. Eric stated back in January that 10
might possibly but he wasn't sure at that time. Also folks I understand that
a public beta for 10 might be out toward the end of this month. That's all I

There are dealers in Israel, so if you friend lives in Israel, I can try to 
find the email and/or the phone of the people that sell the speech software, 
that more likely includes the speech synthesizer.  Just send me an email, 
and I forward you the information that I have.

You probably can buy the Hebrew software at other countries, but I was 
referred to the dealer in Israel, and it was convenient to me, because it 
was just before I visited Israel 19 months ago.

I did not buy the Hebrew speech software and synthesizer, because I was very 
short on money...

My PC came with Roxio(the basic version), and I bought and tried for very 
few days the Roxio record now-9.

I did not have any success with the software, and I got my money back after 
I uninstalled the application.

I did not try the whole package, only the parts that were most important to 
me, but even the Roxio that came with my PC is not very easy to use.
