Jaws sits in the queue of programs waiting to start with your pc. Try thinning out the number of programs that start up, only allow those that you use every day to start with the PC. Run a malware scan as suggested. If you use MS security essentials then uninstall and reinstall it. Do you have any network drives mapped? Windows may be trying to reconnect to these before continuing to start applications? There are lots of reasons and the individual application is rarely the cause. Re: [JAWS-Users] an apology to the group
That's fine Dave. Though I doubt any one was on to bash Jaws. I think the worry from what I'vve seen here and elsewere too was more of what could become of Jaws due to this. Would FS take some stand? That's where I saw this going. People didn't want Jaws to go away in future. It was more about the survivle of JAWS than smashing FS. It was rather interesting though how you daired people to take you on. Eppic. If anything though, I think you could have prevented a general panic jover the future of Jaws more then anything. That's what I saw could have happened, not that people were going to put FS down. Other then to perhaps ask what's their response to this. Re: [JAWS-Users] changing position of DVD movie with VLC
Ah okay. Yeah, that's the other thing. Power DVD is some what usable, but it's not really accessable. Especially when you get the message This interactive BD menu will not allow the use of a Mouse. At least this time once a sighted person gets you out of there you can start the movie. Now, with MJ's This Is It, I had to shut off Jaws before it let me start the movie. It's one of those disks where you hit enter once and it'll click, but it's still in the menu, then you hit it again and it'll click again. Now you've started the movie. I'll bet you Godzilla 1998 will be the same. It's one of those kinds of disks too. Oh yeah, you can't configure Power DVD your self either. You use to be able to in Power DVD 9 and I think kind of in 10 but don't really recall. The newer and newer it gets, the less friendly it is. I don't know whom we could talk to at Cyberlink about this. I also don't know if any one could write scrypts. Fs won't because they view it as an appliance Like a fridge, or a regular old DVD or Blu-Ray player. I asked them. It's too bad really. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Teresa Arroyo Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2014 10:08 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] changing position of DVD movie with VLC Yes, as I mentioned I am using VLC. The problem is that I can't seem to go forward in a movie, it goes to the beginning. Another disadvantage of VLC is that when you stop the movie and you wont to pllay it again from where you left it can't be done. In the WMP, when you entered play it would ask if you wanted to do so from the beginning or from where you left. PowerDVD was same. I download the PowerDVD trial, but it wasn't accessible; I mean the new version. Or rather, It works fine. Thing is Microsoft didn't find it convenient to keep paying the licence for DVD, and honestly who uses DVD any more now that you can even replace most movies with their Blu-Ray disk and get super cool DTSHD Master Audio or even cooler LPCM But for those who have them? I have DVDs don't get me wrong, I know there are movies that aren't available on awesome Blu-Ray yet, but you know how the industry is? Oh yeah, the other thing is that every one feels that no one will want disks any more what with things like Netflix. So, with Win 8, yes you need VLC, Win Amp which will go away if no one buys it, or the infamous Power DVD. I only put up with it because of Blu-Ray. If you want a super easy way to play DVD, it would have been better to get Win 8 Pro. But you have to gget use to Windows Media Center. Historically speaking when something comes along that works well with Jaws, that aspect is lost over time with software updates. 2. The average computer user has no idea whether or not the security software is actually doing what is advertised, other than the fact they aren't having any problems, which could also be due to safe computing practices. Ah yes. That's right WMP in Win 8 doesn't play DVDs any more. It's a shame because it was so easy and accessible. Sure wish PowerDVD were so easy. Re: [JAWS-Users] changing position of DVD movie with VLC
Well, WM paint going nowhere. I've used it and kind of have gotten use to it, but it is different. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Maria Campbell Sent: Monday, January 13, 2014 3:03 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] changing position of DVD movie with VLC OK. Re: [JAWS-Users] Switching From XP To Windows7
Leo is always surprised about this. What's it about IE6 that people are still on it? As for active sink, well at least with Win 7 you can get away with Vista's device center thing. I don't know about Win 8 and haven't bothered trying. I should look into it I guess since I do have a Pacmate Ombni. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Andrew James Bontrager Sent: Monday, January 06, 2014 9:40 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Switching From XP To Windows7 You are right. Those certainly were my opinions. It's all right to disagree with me, I don't mind that a bit. But first let me tell you some of the reasons I have for these opinions of mine. Try these programs with Windows 7: Outlook Express Microsoft ActiveSync Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 (iexplor.exe file) Windows Media Player version 11 The majority of IT professionals still run the XP operating system. You can find the story here. http://www.itbusinessnet.com/article/Survey:-Overwhelming-Majority-of-IT-Pro fessionals-Still-Running-Windows-XP-as-End-of-Life-Nears--2976327 I don't feel nervous if IT professionals are still running this system. Here's the deal. Jaws version 9 works with Windows 7 but not optimally. NVDA works with Win 7 but it has its issues. Jaws version 9 works perfectly with XP. And now to get a fully accessible modern operating system I'm going to have to shell out $500 to Freedom Scientific for another Jaws version? I don't think so! I make a shoestring income and I even have to buy the shoestring. Security takes a truck-bed to performance for me, always. One of the quarrels I have with Windows 7 is the sluggish response of its file explorer system. For example, when I open a folder in Windows Explorer, I'm used to pressing a letter (b for example) a microsecond after opening the folder and it will jump to the first item beginning with the letter. Windows 7 file explorer takes at least a second to get oriented to the correct position, and I might have to press the letter several times to get to the first item. I've deleted wrong files because of this modern explorer. The split buttons and most of the other new features they added are pure fluff to me. Again, the above are my opinions. If you like Windows 7, continue. These are just one user's perspectives. Saddly the question is more how do you get eloquence or Real Speak or Vocalizer sing? I say sadly because I don't think one can. At least no one has tried. I know this was an awesome thing people just loved to do with Dek Talk. It is very hard to do too from what I remember too because Jonathan Mozen interviewed the guy that use to do it. Someone did it on the last episode for 2008 of main menu. I loved that little show they made up with the rushins taking over, killing Paull and Windy and stuff. Grinn. Saddly it disappeared though. Then Harry sings at the end end. It was very funnty. That's when the other guys show up. It was mad funny. But like I said, that episode of main menu is gone. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Singing Happy Birthday To David
Meh, It kind of works but not like Decktalk. Very cool though. I wander how you could get to hold a note. It was just like sticado what it did. People don't sing like that but for perhaps 2 or 3 notes if ever. Very cool though I say again. It does still work though I just tried but it was too sticado. Now we're on that subject though, you guys know when this would come in handy? When you are reading lyrics to a song. Now how does that grabb ya? Think about it. Have JAWS actually sing the xsong rather than just reading it. Or wrap if it's wrap. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. So do I. I just load the files threw File Explorer, than have WMP burn them. I especially do this with CDDA CDs. AKA your regular old music CD. CDDA is their format. You might remember this from the manuals for the good old PTR1 and the still existing PTR2. That's absolutely correct. Actually, this thread brings up a good point. How do you get it if you should loose the authorization CD? I know FS will give it to you. But what about an authorization CD? Would they send you one? If you are a geek and know how to do it, could you still make one? Interesting points I've thought of, but never really asked. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 8.1
Saddly MS doesn't make it that easy. Yes it does install, but they 'll want you to sign into your Windows Live account, they'll want you to give them a phone number to send you some code to type in incase they need privet info. You can skip this aand then go on your way. Note, from now on, unless you change it I guess, you'll use your Win live account to sign in. Man Microsoft is really pushing Win Live. At this time I guess Narrator should work from what I heard. I just had someone sighted do it. Once the whole install process is done, then and only then will JFW come up. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews Sent: Wednesday, November 13, 2013 6:47 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 8.1 I'm confused. Nop, that's it. That's the start button perhaps. See, and Lio Laporte brought this up, what people really mean when they say they want the Win 7 thing back, it's the start menu. Not the button. But no way. MS aint doing that. No more menu. They gave us the button back though. But no way hose no menu ever again. [JAWS-Users] Curiosity about my previous JAWS 15 issue.
Hi guys. At this point today, how many people have had success with J15 on Win 8.1? Now I'm hearing that my issue was some bug in it. To make matters worse, now we can't get rid of it. The SR tek wanted to nuke Jaws from the regrestry. That's how bad it got. But I called them one last time just to report my nephew didn't feel confident going in there and the lady told me that the last thing she saw was that they had been able to duplicate it, and to forget nuking Jaws. It was a bug and it has to be fixed. Odd thing is though, I've seen it work. I used IE11 on an ultrabook some one had at the NFB of CT state convention. IT was Steave from Silver Lining Technologies. I went to google and looked up a new graphic card on it, and then we went to Microsoft, and all was well on his ultrabook. Very odd. Re: [JAWS-Users] Vipre anti-virus
I think it does if like in MS E you focus Jaws on the progress bar. I've tried it because HSN talks about how it's so strong that even the always painted as Darth Vader IRS uses it. Suriously, not to get into government alk here but that's what everyone paints them as when you listen to the discriptions of them. It's essentially Aniken. So I figgured, if it's so strong, well then,, let me give it a try. It was cool. You should be able to install over the Beta. I like you am worried about this reliece too. Mainly due to the issue with IE 11 and Win 8 1 with JFW 15. You get nothing but blank pages. I'll try it, and if I still see blank pages, I'll bring this issue up to Erric himself tonight on TekTalk. This would be vvery bad if this issue wasn't fixed for those using Win 8.1. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Cristóbal Sent: Monday, October 28, 2013 12:19 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 Release will post by 10 AM Eastern Time, Monday, Oct 28th Hello Eric, Thank you for the update notice. Okay, thanks for letting me know. I agree with you Eric, Especially now you say it works for you. I mean, I don't know if you've seen my pryor posts, but anything Microsoft works here accept Microsoft.com. Windows.com did, WindowsMediaCenter.com did, and the US Bing News site all worked. When I tried installing the gold version threw the auto update thing, it said it couldn't. There was something wrong with my prior install of JFW. I got it to install though. I downloaded it from the site manually, and I am using it right now as I write this. The issue with IE 11 is still here. Maybe I should do something though. If it works for you? Then it should work here too. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Eric Damery Sent: Monday, October 28, 2013 12:58 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 15 Release will post by 10 AM Eastern Time, Monday, Oct 28th If you are getting blank pages, please get in touch with Support with details. What I would like to ask and perhaps others can also answer, is if it would be better to uninstall the JFW 15 beta I currently have on my system and do a fresh install of Jaws 15 or would it not matter either way and just go ahead and install the final Jaws release over the beta? We would like to thank everyone for their help with testing and the reports that were submitted. Once the build is live, you will be able to get it by restarting JAWS 15 public beta if you had it installed. Otherwise, you will be able to download it from the JAWS Download page on our web site. Note that we also have posted the Spanish and German releases today as well. The DVDs are in production now and we hope to have the SMA shipments on the way to everyone by Friday this week. If you are expecting to get the DVD, and it has not arrived by November 10th, please check with the customer service department. Again, thanks for all the support during the beta process this year. Re: [JAWS-Users] Any News Regarding Jaws 15?
It will be soon though. Eric is going to talk about Jaws 15 on mon Monday. That tells me it'll be soon. The down side is that the IE 11 thing is going on. I hope I wasn't the only one and I really hope I wasn't the first one to report that. Can you imagine if they print it with it still doing that? [JAWS-Users] A little more testing with Jaws 15 and IE 11
Hi. I did some more testing. I got a feeling since that the only page that been working for me is the US Bing news one, perhaps it might work with anything Microsoft. Well, what do you know? Bingo, it's so. All but the actuall Microsoft.com, all is well there. The site for Windows Media Center is just fine, the page to download IE is just fine, and Windows.com was just fine too. Then just for fun, and to see what happens because someone said something about sites having a lot of text, I went to freedomscientific.com. Saddly no luck. What could be going on here? Why is it being selective like that? For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 11 being weird with JAWS
Wow! That's bad. What does MS plan to do about it? Did she say anything about that? Wow! I mean, the point of the update was to make things better and make those that hated Win 8 some what like it at least. This might hurt their chances. Man. This is not good news at all. The funny thing though is and sorry if I said already here, but it is that the US Bing news page loads just fine. That's the only one you can go threw and everything. But go any where elce, and you're out of luck. But then again, it loads the US Bing news page just fine. So perhaps it is IE 11. I'd like to see what's going on with every one else though. Okay, then you have to go to the open diolaug and do the thing where it says change drive, and change the drive to the one where the books are. Then you can choose the books. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Nicole Valicia Thompson-Andrews Sent: Thursday, October 17, 2013 9:53 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Playing Learning Ally Books The reader is authorized. I guess the home virsion is the version that comes on most computers. The one just called Win 8. Note, if you were to want Windows Media Center, you need Win 8 Pro. Next, look at HandBrake’s preset menu on the right side. It has a list of preset outputs for a slew of Apple devices (which tend to be finicky about the kinds of movie files they'll play). If you don't intend to use any of the game consoles or iOS devices included in the presets, you can manually arrange your own settings by choosing Normal or High Profile. 6. The Video tab lets you fine-tune your project, and has some options that will allow you to adjust the final quality of your movie. Just remember that the higher the quality, the larger the file size.
