[JAWS-Users] JAWS and OpenBook version 7

2015-02-24 Thread David Moore
Hi all,
I was thinking. I don't know how much it would be to up-grade to
OpenBook 9. Is there any other way that I could use my Epson scanner
and the scanner's software and scan printed documents into the
computer and still read them with JAWS. If I simply scanned the
documents into the computer with the scanner, how easy would it be to
save that as a PDF or some other file type that JAWS could read? Is
there another OCR option that would be cheaper than up-grading to OB
9. I would appreciate any feed-back from you guys. Thank you so
much.
David Moore from Columbus Ohio. By the way, Linda, please do not get
a mac I would be so very sad if you left windows and JAWS!!
There has been a lot of instructions to still use Outlook Express.
Thanks guys.

2015-02-24 Thread Mike Boyd

Hi David,

The Open Book upgrade to version 9 will cost you $150. I don't know of any
free or cheap ways of getting the same results with another software, there
is Ducksberry, but that would mean paying the full price for the software,
and I do not know the price of it. For the money, the Open Book upgrade is
going to be your best bet.

After I got over my mad because Openbook 7 wouldn't work on my 64 bit

I install OpenBook version 7, it seems to install Okay. When I go to
launch the application, the IBM voice never speaks, and JAWS says
nothing in OpenBook. If I turn on Narator, I here an error message in
OpenBook saying OpenBook is not responding. If I could get JAWS to
talk in the OpenBook window, I might be able to figure out more what

I use OB 9 with window's 7, and was thrilled to find the setting to scan
in

edit mode same as I did in OB 7.

After I got over my mad because Openbook 7 wouldn't work on my 64 bit
Windows 7 Home laptop, I just installed Openbook 8 and it worked. I'm
still
unhappy because Openbook 7.2 worked so much better. But, then, I still

Hi Linda,

I had to get a 64 bit disk from Freedom Scientific before Openbook8 would
work on my Win7 64 bit computer. Is your computer 64 or 32 bit? If your
computer is 64 bit, maybe something happened along the line where the 64
bit
disk wasn't necessary any more for Openbook8 to run on a Win7 64 bit
system.
All I know, which isn't much, was having to wait for that disk before I
could run OB8 on my computer.
Take care.

Hi David,

To my knowledge Openbook 7 will not work with Windows7. From what I
understand Openbook8 is the earliest version you can use if you are
running a 64 bit system you have to get a special 64 bit Openbook8 64
bit

disk from Freedom Scientific. So, being your're running Windows 8 I
would
think the same is true. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
Take care.

Hi all! I know that you will be able to help me. I have a new Asus
laptop with Windows 8.1 and using JAWS 16.0.1925, latest update. When
I install OpenBook version 7, it seems to install Okay. When I go to
launch the application, the IBM voice never speaks, and JAWS says
nothing in OpenBook. If I turn on Narator, I here an error message in
OpenBook saying OpenBook is not responding. If I could get JAWS to
talk in the OpenBook window, I might be able to figure out more what
is going on, but I can't. Why do you think that OpenBook 7 is not
responding if my installation seems to go Okay? Thanks in advance
