I'm coming in late on this topic so I apologize if these suggestion have already been made. If you right click on an .mp3 file and arrow down to convert sound file, the process is fairly simple. Also conversion of files between .mp3 and .wav can be done in CDEX. Both options are free. NCH also has a program called Switch which I think has a free version. That one is a bit more problematic because of some labeling issues in the program. When I put in the url jaws is reporting no tables. Scrolling through there appears to be no tables just lists containing what can be converted to what. ok don't know yet if you all got this straightened out but when i went to: http://convertfiles.com/ there was a nice webpage full of links, but it made it clear (due to the title of the page) that it was a file conversion and U-Tube converter site. I hit T like she said and landed on a radio button that said choose a local file (that means on your comp for those who don't under stand the reference) and just below that is an edit field, put the on your conputer path to the file you wish to convert there! (such as) C:\documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\MusicSounds\ToConverts\flames.mp3 now arrow down past the second radio button (which by the way is the one for going to something like a UTube video and converting it) and past the edit field for those addresses. i left the input format to its stock all setting but i guess you can hit enter on it and then alt and down arrow to open the combo box and arrow down to the file type your starting with, not needed in my use but its there. i then went to the output file type box and entered on it and arrowed down to .wav. i went down some more and passed by and left the email me a link checkbox unchecked and simply hit enter on the convert button that was under that. screan flicker, i found a message that said converting file... so i waited. screen flicker again, and there was a page with a message please download your file and a download link/URL to download it. now i have that sound in .wavuseable for a startup sound or whatever on my machine thank you, i like onboard converters but this seems nicely useable, and am going to try it with some utube videos i want! inthane - Original Message - From: Damien O'Connor damienmocon...@eircom.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Monday, March 26, 2012 1:04 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] converting MP3 files to WAV files Hi Patti. You could use a program called Gold Wave which when I purchased it gave you a free 30 day trial. I may be a little late replying to this, sorry if the question has already been answered. If you have trouble converting directly from .wma to .mp3 files, I suggest that you first convert the file to .wav and then to mp3. Total recorder does have a batch processing feature. Look under the options menu. Hi Candy. You can try Audiograbber, that is free, and by it selv can convert wave files to wma, and with supplying the Lame Encoder wich can be downloaded free also from the internet, it can convert to mp3 also. It is very accessable without any script for jaws, it works fine by default! You can search for Audiograbber on Google, that, as well as i remember, is hosting the site where it can be downloaded from. It is only approximate 1.4 megabyte. And the Lame_enc.dll is quit small too. I have used it since Jaws 4.01, and there has never been problems with using the program with Jaws. Good luck. You can try Audiograbber, that is free, and by it selv can convert wave files to wma, and with supplying the Lame Encoder wich can be downloaded free also from the internet, it can convert to mp3 also. It is very accessable without any script for jaws, it works fine by default! You can search for Audiograbber on Google, that, as well as i remember, is hosting the site where it can be downloaded from. It is only approximate 1.4 megabyte. And the Lame_enc.dll is quit small too. I have used it since Jaws 4.01, and there has never been problems with using the program with Jaws. Good luck. Hi KK, Try this with the troublesome file: While the file in question is selected in the list where it is being stored, Press the F2 key to rename it. You are not actually going to rename the file, just change the file extension. Try changeing it from .wma, to .mp3, and see what happens. If this file was acquired from the internet, there is a chance that it has been tinkered with. HTH, Richard Q.
