Just to add to the disk de frag question, solid state drives don't require
this process either.

And IMO, it's a bit over rated for most conventional / spinning HDD's.
Running defrag too often can have a detrimental effect on the drive,
particularly if it's already nearing its 'end of live'.

System Information -> Storage -> Disks shows the model of the drive, which you
can then look up on the Web via your preferred Web search engine (e.g.,
Google).

Re: [JAWS-Users] disk defragmenter

2017-06-16 Thread Mike B.
Hi Scorpio & Wayne,

If I'm not mistaken, diskdefragmenter, is set to run on a schedule, by
default in Windows 7 The problem is that when I checked the defragmenting
schedule it was set to run real late at night, or real early in the morning
on a weekly basis, & if you didn't leave your computer running all the time
it wouldn't be defragmented. Since I defrag my computers regularly I turned
off the scheduled defrag that Windows had set.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Hi Wayne,

I believe all defragmenters are just as good as the other.

Fact is, all you're doing is moving information around, and, if anything,
Windows will have a jump on other applications because of the index it uses
for the Start menu function and the file search.

Either way, I believe the Windows 7 defrag utility is enough for your drive.

The Windows 10 defragmenter is very good. If you have an SSD, don't defrag,
its totally unnecessary and will shorten the useful life of your SSD.

If you insist on a different one, Defragler is good.

Hi,

This is a function of Windows, and does not depend on the drive you have.

Microsoft has finally figured out that drives lag with time, and has made
the service automatic, rather than relying on the user to do it manually.
