Re: [JAWS-Users] mp3 gain crashing jaws

2018-05-22 Thread Josh Kennedy
I found jaws crashes sometimes with windows10 mail app. For those times, I
switch to NVDA, do what I have to in the particular program and then when done
shut NVDA off and switch back to jaws.

Actually, you can access either a voice or a text version.
The voice starts automatically, when you click on the file. If you pause or

2011-01-26 Thread Darrin Porter
Wayne,

Not quite sure what you're asking about. If you're looking for a free
program to rip CDs, i.e., convert commercial CDs into MP3 files, CDEX is
free and does the job nicely. You can also do this with Windows Media
Player, which comes with windows and is also free.

If you are looking for a format converter, there are too many to name. A
good free one is Oxelon, which will convert both audio and video formats.
The free version of Switch works pretty well also.

Hello Wayne,

You can use WinFF to convert a .WMA file or a batch of .WMA files to .MP3
files. It is a very easy to use program with most controls that you need
for the conversion accessible by using the tab key and arrow keys.
Another

easy to use converter is the Jodix WMA to MP3 converter. Links are shown
below if you want to download either one or both of the programs. I have
given a few steps for using the two programs below the links. The first
steps are for WINFF and the steps for using the Jodix WMA to MP3 converter
are shown after the steps for WINFF.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3951772/free-wma-mp3-converter.exe

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3951772/winff-1.2-setup.exe

WINFF:

When you open the program you can use tab key to move to a convert to
combo box and pick the audio choice located near the top of the list. Use
tab key one time to move focus to the device presets combo box and press
the

letter M to select MP3. Tab again and you will find an edit box with the
current path for output files. If you want a different path then use tab
one time and there will be an unlabeled button. Press spacebar on that
button to browse to a different output folder. One tab after the
unlabeled

button for browsing to a different output folder is the add button. Press
spacebar on the add button to get a dialog box for adding files. When the
dialog box opens use tab one time and check to make sure files of type are
set to all files. Browse to the folder with the WMA files. You can use
regular Windows selection commands in the list of files to be converted.
If
files are in a contiguous order then use shift key as you use down arrow
key
to select them. If files are noncontiguous then hold down CTRL key and
use

spacebar to select or deselect the items to be included. If all your WMA
files are in one folder by themselves then you can use CTRL+A to select
them

all. Tab to the open button and press enter key. You can then tab to the
convert button and press spacebar. When conversion is finished you will
be

asked to press any key to continue. After you press a key to continue you
can close the program and your converted files should be in the output
folder you chose. Once in a while I have still ran into an unsupported
CODEC used to create the file and then the conversion will fail.

JODIX WMA TO MP3 CONVERTER

Another easy to use program is the Jodix WMA to MP3 converter. When you
first open the program you will be given a tip of the day so just tab to
OK

and press spacebar. You can then tab to the add files button and use
spacebar. You can select files that you want included using regular
Windows

selecting commands. The only type showing will be WMA. Once selecting is
done tab to the open button and use spacebar. Tab to the next button
and
use spacebar. In the next part of the wizard, some controls are not
spoken

but if you keep tabbing you will find the next button. You will then be
in a part of the wizard for choosing other settings like bit rate, whether
stereo or mono, etc. Tab to next and press enter key. The wizard will
then

show a few edit boxes that you can tab to but they are not read by JAWS.
You can easily route JAWS cursor to PC cursor and read the line to find
out

what each edit box is and then put on PC cursor to type in the appropriate
tag. Tab to the OK button and use spacebar. You will then be asked if
you
want to use the same settings for all the other files. This is referring
to

all the other selected files that you included to be converted. Press
spacebar on the yes button. You can then tab and find a list box with all
the selected files. Tab past the list box and you will find the start
button. Use spacebar on the start button to start conversion. When
conversion finishes you will be asked if you want to go to the output
folder. Pressing spacebar will take you there. You can then close the
converter.

Take care.

able to put a file into your Dropbox without having to zip it up? Your
advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.

Use
tab key one time to move focus to the device presets combo box and press the
letter M to select MP3. Tab again and you will find an edit box with the
current path for output files. If you want a different path then use tab
one time and there will be an unlabeled button. Press spacebar on that
button to browse to a different output folder. One tab after the unlabeled
button for browsing to a different output folder is the add button. Press
spacebar on the add button to get a dialog box for adding files. When the
dialog box opens use tab one time and check to make sure files of type are
set to all files. Browse to the folder with the WMA files. You can use
regular Windows selection commands in the list of files to be converted. If
files are in a contiguous order then use shift key as you use down arrow key
to select them. If files are noncontiguous then hold down CTRL key and use
spacebar to select or deselect the items to be included. If all your WMA
files are in one folder by themselves then you can use CTRL+A to select them
all. Tab to the open button and press enter key. You can then tab to the
convert button and press spacebar. When conversion is finished you will be
asked to press any key to continue.

When you
first open the program you will be given a tip of the day so just tab to OK
and press spacebar. You can then tab to the add files button and use
spacebar. You can select files that you want included using regular Windows
selecting commands. The only type showing will be WMA. Once selecting is
done tab to the open button and use spacebar. Tab to the next button and
use spacebar. In the next part of the wizard, some controls are not spoken
but if you keep tabbing you will find the next button. You will then be
in a part of the wizard for choosing other settings like bit rate

I think it should be worth noting here that before you go into the cue
points dialog box, you'll have to place a cue point at the beginning of the
audio file with control+Q, otherwise you'll receive an error when you go to
split the file saying that there is no cue point at the beginning of the
file.

It will then refuse to split the file based on your auto cuing.

Also, if you find you get this error message, just get out of the cue points
dialog box, do a control+A to go to the beginning of the audio file, and
place the cue point at that stage with control+Q.

At that point, you can go back into the cue points dialog box, and split the
file.

Hope this helps.

Mo,

This could easily and quickly be done with GoldWave. Goldwave will either
automatically split the file into segments whose lengths you specify
(regardless of what's happening at the split point) or you can manually go in
and drop que points where you want the file split. This is pretty quick and
easy since you can jump to any part of the file quickly. For example, if you
wanted the file split up into roughly thirty minute segments, you could simply
jumt to, say, 29 minutes and thirty seconds and start listening, dropping your
que point during a pause or quiet part of the file. Then repeate at 59:30,
1:29:30, etc.

I did this for a two and a half hour lecture series I recorded and managed to
get the entire lecture split into approximately 5 minute segments in somewhat
less than an hour. Another nice feature of GoldWave is that you can name your
que points and tell the program to split the file at the que points and use the
que point names as the split file names.

You might consider mp3 Direct Cut. It has the advantage of not converting
between .wav and .mp3 and works on the file in the native mp3 format.

I believe you can get it on the Jaws-users.com page and even a tutorial.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MP3 splitter?

2010-05-03 Thread Steve
Yeah, there is a silence detection feature. The problem is whether you can
set it to not have too many different tracks created.

I'm not sure I have the latest version of Goldwav, but I suspect the
following procedure still works in versions beyond my 5.52.

1. Open the mp3 file you want to split.

2. Press alt-e for the edit menu, and then you arrow to the cue points
submenu.

3. On the edit cue points submenu, select AutoCue.

4. This will bring up a multi-tab control. There are two tabs, one is mark
silences and the other is spacing. I can't get Jaws to move there by the
traditional method, so if you are on the spacing tab, you'd need to use the
Jaws cursor and left-click the mark silences tab.

5. Now, with the proper tab in focus, you can set the noise threshhold and
length of silence. The threshhold default is -40DB that is minus 40DB. If
you have a file with a bit more background noise, then you may need to
increase the value to -30DB or so.

6. Set the length of the silence for what you need. If you for example had
recorded a record album, you might have 3 seconds between songs. Other
files you may have shorter silences. You may need to experiment with this
setting. If you get too many cue points, you may need to lower the
threshhold or increase the length of the silent period.

7. When you hit auto-cue, it will generate the cue points in that file. It
will then list them.

If you are satisfied, you can go back into the cue points submenu and hit
the Split File button. If you need to change the settings because the
results weren't satisfactory, remember to hit the option to delete all your
existing cue points first, because AutoCue will preserve already-existing
cue points normally.

Rus! I don't know if you have had a definitive reply to your question, but
I have one idea that
will work.
Pause the audio and then press k for the seek to feature. You will be
told how much time has
elapsed. If you want to go back or forward, tab to the hour, minute and
seconds fields: delete the
elapsed time, and type in the one you want.
For instance: say the elapsed time is 1 hour 31 minutes 15 seconds, and you
want to relisten to a
segment that you estimate may have been five minutes ago: delete the 31
minutes and replace it with
26, and then tab down to seek to and restart the audio file.
There may be other ways of doing it, but I can guarantee that the one I have
outlined will work.

I found that control, P paused the playing of the MP3. I have not found how

Subject: [JAWS-Users] MP3 controls

Hi Everyone,

I was listening to a downloaded training MP3 file. I wanted to move ahead
and at times repeat by moving back.

I found that control, P paused the playing of the MP3. I have not found how
to fast forward or replay a segment.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Russ

Switch is the audio converter I use for this task and is Jaws friendly. Use
the space bar to hit buttons rather than the enter key and the program is
fine.
Size is not the only thing you need to consider though. The higher the bit
rate, the higher the sound quality and the larger the file.
What is a suitable rate is controversial . Once 128 was considered high
quality whilst as disc sizes increase people can now argue that 320 is
needed. I saw an email from someone recently claiming that anything ripped
off a CD that was less than 320 is a disgrace. Personally I use 192 but
probably would struggle in reality to tell the difference between 128 and
320 but I am hearing impaired.
The other factor to consider is whether you want constant or variable bit
rate format. Variable VBR files will take up less space than constant CBR
files but will not be supported on all mp3 players and older software
packages.

As someone said - a can of worms might be opening up here.

For example are you talking about Cds audio ? Wma files ? Wav files ? Mp4?
Sony acc files?

As a potential destination format I think ogg has a smaller file size than
mp3 but is not supported across all devices.

From the Jaws User programs page.
If you look at the bottom of the emails you are getting from the Jaws User
list there should be a link to Jaws user help which will in turn have a link
to the main site, and from there you can easily find the programs page.

You could be opening a whole can of worms here with this one cliff! smile.

There is however at least one smaller way to compress your audio, and that's
via Ogg Vorbis.

It really depends how much you care about the quality of the final product,
some folks are very very particular, but for the most part Ogg Vorbis is a
tighter compression than MP3.

Estellita. That depends on what kind of software you are using to create
the MP3 file.
Most of them give you the option of creating the file in either stereo or
mono. That kind of thing can usually be found in the Preferences part of a
software package, usually under Tools.

I hope this helps.

I'm looking for a site easy to navigate with JAWS and hopefully not loaded

Subject: [JAWS-Users] MP3 Downloads

I know this question in part has been batted around here from time to time
but here is my specific request. I'm looking for a site to pay for and down
load MP3 formatted music. I prefer to download singles rather than albums.
I'm looking for a site easy to navigate with JAWS and hopefully not loaded
with tons of spy ware etc. Does such a site exist and what has been folks
experience with it?

thanks,
Al

I believe that the f7 and f8 keys will adjust playback speed.

I'd like to know if there is a way to speed up play back in MP3 direct
cut. I have gold wave and like it just fine so far as that goes, this is
just for interest sake is all.

Thank you for answering. I knew there was a key stroke but didn't feel like
plowing through the tutorials again just for that.
